Lost in Space - Sweet deal for fans with Season 2, Volume 1

http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/graphics/blackpixel.gif The next Lost In Space DVD box set was announced today, and - true to the mid-May report (http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=1499) - the 2nd season is being split into two half-season releases this time.

September 14th sees the release of Lost In Space - Season 2, Volume 1. This 4-disc set runs 815 minutes and contains the following episodes:

Disc 1 - Blast Off Into Space; Wild Adventure; The Ghost Planet; Forbidden World
Disc 2 - Space Circus; The Prisoners of Space; The Android Machine; The Deadly Games of Gamma 6
Disc 3 - The Thief from Outer Space; Curse of Cousin Smith; West of Mars; A Visit to Hades
Disc 4 - Wreck of the Robot; The Dream Monster; The Golden Man; The Girl from the Green Dimension

Soundtrack is in English, Spanish, or French, and subtitles are present in both English and Spanish. Video is, of course, as originally broadcast in 1.33:1 full frame, with color episodes showing up this season.

List price is $39.98 in the U.S., and $54.98 in Canada. To compare that pricing to the first season set release (http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/releaseinfo.cfm?ReleaseID=3132), you are getting exactly half the disc count, and more than half the running time, for less than half the previous set's SRP. Sounds like a good deal after all, despite fears from the fans that the split-season release would be a secret way of "gouging the fans". No, it's not: fans are getting a sweeter deal this way!

Don't forget that you won't have to wait long for Season 2, Volume 2: it's due in November, according to early plans. Stay tuned, and we'll bring you the details of that one as soon as we can. We're also waitiing on cover art for the first half of the season, so don't touch that dial!

I got the first season for 48.00, now were talking 80.00 for season 2. Fox really sticks it to the consumer.

Honestly, I think you're being way too melodramatic. This is still a terrifc buy and I can't see this as a rip-off by any stretch of the imagination.

For one thing, we all know that DVDs have street prices at least 25% lower than MSRP. I'm sure you'll be able to pre-order each volume for not more than $25.00 or $30.00.

In fact just about the ONLY thing I can praise FOX for is the exceptionally inexpensive price of these sets. You're getting dual layered DVDs for $6.00 or $7.00 a pop. That's incredible. The price is an absolute non-issue. There isn' a cheaper set (not on dual layered discs) to be found.

Personally, I wish that they would RAISE the price and use that money to raise the quality of the transfers. Set One of LIS gave us one of the cheapest TV DVD releases in history. It also gave us the worst transfers ever by a major studio. Unfortunately, you get what you pay for. I wish Fox wouldn't keep low-balling LIS (though, obviously, it's too late to convince them otherwise). Let them charge a reasonable price and do resonable transfers.

I guess we're stuck with cheap prices and cheap quality. I'll be anxious to see the next set, though. I take comfort in the fact that it can't possibly worse than the first set.

I plan on getting season 2 from the UK. It is being released on July 5th I believe in one whole set, also season 3 will be released from what I heard in September, the whole season. I'm glad I have a multi region dvd player for these sort of instances.

Walmart may not be as cheap if they loose their pending class action lawsuit by female employees.....Supposed to be the largest ever!

The UK full season boxed sets can be obtained from Play

http://www.play.com/play247.asp?page=title&r=R2&title=165953

Others will stock it but generally Play tend to have the best price on this type of stuff. Play also ship a couple days in advance of the release date which is next Monday.

I'm glad now that I got my last Abbott & Costello collection at HMV here in Canada and not the local Wal Mart. I've been trying to avoid them whenever possible for a couple of years now. Here's why.

Close to my house there is a nice mall. It features a number of nice boutique stores and had a Sears and a Wal Mart as "anchor" tennants. Wal Mart moved out two years ago. But their lease wasn't finished. The mall wanted to release them from their obligations so they could get another anchor tenant. Wal Mart refused and, while paying for the space, has been keeping it vacant since they left. The result has been a major drop in foot traffic to the mall causing severe harm to the local Sears outlet; many other small retailers in that mall have gone out of business or moved to other locations.

If that's not blatantly anti-competitive, then what is?
