The ROAR Region 5 Electric Off-Road Champs will be held in Litchfield, MI on September 10, 11 & 12. We plan to limit to the first 250 entries, due post marked by September 3rd. Flyers will be available soon.

We will be reworking the track. Dad and I have always talked about hosting a Regionals. I'm pretty geeked about it. I probably won't race - just build the track and keep it up during the race day. I want this to be the coolest track layout EVER at Litchfield. What I want to know from you folks is, what's the most fun thing you have seen on a 1/10th scale off road track? Describe it... tell a story about it... send me a photo... whatever. For those of you who have raced on the Litchfield track surface, what do you wish you could have seen over the years on our layout?

Congratulations on hosting this race! That is really cool. I don't know if I will be able to race but I have always enjoyed your layouts.

Some things I think would be awesome if you could incorporate into the layout would be Over-Under Jump. Check it out here: http://minnregrcc.com/photogallery/cm/thumbnails.php?album=9&page=5 I raced on these in florida and it was a blast.

One other thing that makes a track fun yet difficult is a rythm section like a triple double or add a table tob in there. I know you have had things like this in previous years and they have been great.

One of the neatest things I've run on was the Pot Hole at Brooklyn for the MEXORS race a couple years ago, Jesse Ramey made it. At first it just looked wierd, but it sure did work well for Hairpin cornering!, Just drive down into it, crank the wheel, gas it and it shot you out the other side like a perfect berm. I thought it was great! Different too.

cross overs are always interesting

Crossover huh? The old man may find that too risky, but I'll consider that in the new layout. I like the thought of the bowl. Any photos of that anywhere?

Just wouldn't seem right if you didn't include the famous "Litchfield Loop" into the regionals track. Give them outta staters some hassels.

I Do Belive The Loop Was Removed Due To Roar Rules???? But Im Not Sure??? Can Someone Tell Us All Why It Was Removed This Year

KevinDog

A turn marshall stepped on it and knocked it over. I did not stick around to see who removed it. I assume it was easier to take it out than to fix it.

The loop would definately pass ROAR rules. We just need 8 feet of racing room on either side of it. We did build it with 8 feet to the outside lane, so it's within rules.

Flyers have been sent to ROAR and race sponsor Fantom. The flyer should show up on http://www.fantomracing.com/ shortly. If you would like a PDF or Powerpoint copy, feel free to e-mail me at keith.hamilton@gm-planworks.com . Might want to get your entry in soon as we are limiting it to 250 entries. Entry deadline is September 3rd. With the entry fees at only $35 per class, we expect that this could fill up fairly quickly. This is the lowest entry that I have seen for a Regional in a long time. Plus, we have drawn 250 to 300 for MARS racing just covering Michigan. Add in the surrounding states and...

Plus, the track is gonna be cool. :)

Q's that have come up - most or all is on the flyer, but in case you haven't got one yet (only been out a few days) here's some more format info.

Four round of IFMAR qualifying, then mains for all participants.
Five minute races, two minute grid time between. AMB scoring - personal transponders allowed - club transponders available.
Friday schedule: 9am to 9pm racer check in and open practice with groom sessions every two hours.
Saturday schedule: 6:30 am to 8:30 am racer check in and open practice . 9am sharp begins first round. Three rounds on Saturday with resort at the end of 3rd.
Sunday schedule: 6:30 am to 8:30 am open practice . 9am sharp begins fourth round. Minimum 1/2 hour break before mains. Single A mains, run in class order, bottom up (not A's together). Trophies for top 3 in each class. Maybe top 10 in A depending on entries.
Classes: Masters Stock Truck, Stock Buggy, Stock Truck, Mod Buggy, Mod Truck and 4wd Mod. This is the tentative class order, depending on # of entries.
No handout motors - bring your own ROAR legal stockers. Motors will be teched in each race. It may be random (say car 5 for one race, 2 for the next 6, 7 & 8 next) but expect at least one motor to be looked at in each heat.
$35 each class. One free t-shirt per racer. $10 late fee for entries after 9/3. Limited to first 250 entries. We think we'll easily hit that number. We expect a good showing from Chicago, Cleveland, Indy and Columbus. There are a ton of top notch racers in Region 5.

Triple A mains is for ROAR National level. It is an option at the Regional level, but with people running multiple classes in off-road, it will place much of the top 10 racers back to back to back. The race day would end at 10 pm Sunday night. The race director and the ROAR Regional Director discussed it and decided that single A's would be better due to the number of double and triple class entries.

We haven't discussed a rain date, but I'll ask the race director and get back with you.

Entries are starting to fill up. Dad is going to send me a list soon of who's in, so if you've sent yours in, look for your name here soon. Remember that entry deadline is 9/3 and limiting to 250 entries.

I am sure he will post them as soon as he can.

Bob - we have a total of 2. Me in stock truck and dad in masters. That will make us both Region 5 champs! :)

Just kidding. Dad hasn't given me an update. I'll be down there on August 6th and 7th working on the track. I'll get the list and bring it back and post it. Only one month left to get your entry in. I think dad said that he was about 1/3 of the way there. We have sent flyers to all registered ROAR Region 5 tracks. A few entries from Chicago and Cincy already. Should be a big race. Not sure if it will hit the 250 max cap? MARS drew 140 range just from Michigan. We should easily see that. Many of the MARS guys signing up are putting in for 3 and 4 classes. I guess the chance to race for the Regional Championship is pretty appealing.

Anyone need a flyer... e-mail me.

Heading to Litchfield this weekend. Time to build the loop de loop and the water jump. Also plan to jump over the driver's stand. Won't be able to see your car, but if you can hear it land on the driver's stand roof, it should come off the other side o.k. :)

Got photos of the Region 5 track. I think it is our best yet at Litchfield. Built with to be very raceable in Mod, but still fun for stock. The track is dry in the photos so jumps are harder to see. Will be wet and lots of traction for Regions.

Anyone know how to post the pics?

how many actual entries do you have so far?Guru. I didn't see your entry yet? Did you send it? How many classes did you enter?

We have less than 50 right now, but expect 150+. Could see the 250 limit because everyone seems to be entering 4 classes. Also expecting a group from Chicago to get entries in over the next week or so. And, spoke with a group from Columbus. Should be a really competitive race. It's been a while since the Regions were in Michigan.

ROAR memebership answers. You can join ROAR for $30 for one year. Or, you can join with a one race membership for the Regionals, at the track, for $15. If you then decide to go to another ROAR race within the next year, you can pay another $15 at that race. That would qualify you for a full membership for the rest of the year.

If you don't plan to race any other ROAR events in a year, the $15 option is really great to be able to attend one big, fun race.

Change in the trophies. Dad has decided to give 10 trophies for all A-mains. Thanks to the help of the race sponsors, Ryder's Hobby Shop and Fantom Racing, the trophy fund will allow for some good tropies. All 10 in the A will get a nice trophy and top 3 in all mains.

Oh... dad received 35 new racer entries this week. Next week should be a big week. I'll give a count then for all the procrastinators and let you know if we are getting close to the 250.

Should I bring a Traxxas for stock truck?
 You could probably win with that old truck at Litchfield. It has seen enough laps there that it probably could drive itself.

Oh, we did send a flyer to Danny Fisher. Watch him drag out an old 1992 Losi XXT, borrow my batteries and win the Regionals.

Tim K - did you send in an entry? Let me know if maybe it's just crossing in the mail right now. Anyone else that doesn't see their name, let me know and I'll check on it.

A ton of Michigan racers have told me that they are giving their entries to Ken Hamilton at this weekend's Vicksburg MARS race. That would be a good idea. Remember the entry post mark deadline of 9/3. Get em in the mail by next Friday.
