Been real busy with traveling for work. Was in Toledo for 2 weeks then over in England for 2 weeks. Just got back. Most other weekends been out of town for family type functions. Was able to stop out and see all the boys at Classic last week. Still not missing racing though, lol

Hey Jim,

I ran LF Green RF Black LR Pearl and RR White. Hope this helps!

How would your car have handled differently (obviously it handled great) if you ran a BSR Green in the left rear instead of the Pearl?

Also, since I can't find it anywhere, what is the shore rating of the Pearl (I assume softer than white)?

Thanks,
Barry Strasnick

Pearl durometer reads ~25 30 Where a White Duro's 30-35

I find the green left rear not to have as much bite as the pearl does, or even the white. But it does seem to run better as a left front tire.

I have been running white rears, and 70/30 gray/silver fronts. What are the advantages to running a different compound on each corner. I know I like to have the same, as I can just change the tire from side to side to help with wear. I do know that BSR rims and tires are the best I have run!!

MIKE VALENTINE
08-22-2006, 04:29 PM
one of the advantages of running the green on the left front is it wears the same as a black or grey silver right front. So you don't have to swap the front tires. Also since we are turning left only, you can use the tires to fine tune the car. if you need less rear bite entering the turn, you can run a harder right rear tire. while still runing the softer left rear to get the traction you need to get off the turn.

At the beginning of the day I was running a Green LR, the first round of quailifying, I changed to the pearl at the start of the second round and stayed with that all day, but Mike said it correctly. The green doesnt have as much grip, but as the track changed I changed the car to get more traction. I also went up in rollout as well, like a .20 difference so I changed it to compensate track conditions and rollout. Mr. Valentine, again well said.

*EDIT*

Tonight BSR tires take down TQ and A-Main win @ Maximus. 56 4:02 with a field of 6 drivers equal driving ability! Amazing main in York. Thanks John!

Assuming a medium flat oval (Maximus in my case), what is the optimal tire diameter (assuming I am willing to use a set of tires each week)?

I assume that smaller diameter has less rolling resistance and less foam distortion.

However, what size is too small such that you start losing traction?

thanks,
Barry Strasnick

Barry, for Maximus I cut the tires down to 2.25 to start and I give them to upcomming racers (just getting into the hobby) when they are 2.17-2.18. I have been using the combo listed above in my post for the past month and a half.

MIKE VALENTINE
08-28-2006, 04:53 PM
I haven't had any problems running them down to 2.15. I normally cut them down to 2.25ish to start and just run them, skimming them on the tire truer every 4 or 5 runs. Most guys don't like doing it this way because you need to adjust ride height weekly. I'd rather save the tires since most weekly racing doesn't have the bite in the track to run 2.15 tires.

Assuming I am running pearl/white for left rear, white for right rear and green for left front, what is the effect on handling (where in the corner does the car do what differently) if I run a black/grey right front versus something much harder (blue as an example)?

Sorry, but I am the sort of person who likes to understand the 'why'

thanks

p.s. Great help by great racers is definitely a reason for folks not currently running BSRs to consider doing so. It helped make the decision for me.

There are no stupid questions. To answer your question a harder RF will make the car tighter. The best way to find the effects of changing tire compounds is to start with a setup your comfortable with and change 1 tire at a time. Check the lap times with each change. Good luck

barrys, running a blue instead of a softer right front will give the feeling of understeer going into the turn, but it carries more speed due to less scrub. the difficult part is to have the car turn in, without having the right rear sliding across the carpet. For most flat track the hard blue just doesn't offer enough bite. I'd stay away from it for most flat tracks. A black or grey/silver will be you best bet at most tracks.

Thanks - That is the sort of thing I am trying to understand better. The concept of speed vs. scrub vs. control

I am sure this has been aswered before but what is the part # for the 50%/50% Grey/Silver front tires. Everytime I order from my shop all they seem to get is the 70/30? How can my shop specify the 50/50?

Just curious what tires would somone at BSR or very familiar with the BSr tire line recommend for 4300 or 5800 brushless on a track with low bite to start with....and then as it gets groove in it thru the race day turns to a medium bite track???? I race at a track as described and unless we get 110 racers there it isn't even close to Snowbirds bite.....

Thanks for the help guys...
