chuck47 03-29-2005, 10:13 AM Well I've got a shopping list together for the tires, now some track time which is always the fun part.
Fastman I'll have to try different combinations to see about if I'm trying to free the car up or loosen it up. I'm not sure on that one as of now that's kind of a fine line to get the right balance cause loose is supposed to be the fast way around the track but ya gotta control it!!!
These guy's that can whip ya and have the same car, batteries, and even not as good a motor know how to set up the chassis and tires the way it should be set up.
Thanks for all the input guy's:thumbsup:
Mr.fastman 04-04-2005, 05:35 PM These BSR's are the best! With so many compounds to choose from its alot easier to get the car just right. 2 races since I got on BSR's = 2 TQ's and 1 track record. John really does make the best tires I've ever run on.

dave w 04-04-2005, 05:37 PM bsr s were on the front row at the strand this week end mr fastman and myself were on the front row with 32 cars in 4cell stock !!!
Racin Steve 04-04-2005, 08:10 PM 5 out of 6 4-cell stock A-Main racers were on BSR Racing Tires at last weekend's Int'l RC Classic at The Rock (www.grcsr.com (http://www.grcsr.com)).
There were 87 drivers in 4-cell stock ... yep ... 87 racers!!!
There was 2 popular BSR setups ...
LF: soft green (paragon)
RF: gray silver (tq mod)
LR: soft green (paragon)
RR: white-gray (tq mod outside half and paragon inside half)
and ...
LF: soft green (tq mod)
RF: gray silver (tq mod)
LR: pearl white (tq mod)
RR: white-gray (tq mod)

Mr.fastman 04-04-2005, 09:11 PM Bolting a set of BSR's on a Custom Works car just makes a fast car even faster!
tw78911sc 04-05-2005, 12:09 AM John,
Are you coming to Toledo for the Oval Nats? Will I be able to buy tires from you or via Josh at the track? I know you have some tire combos that aren't normally sold over the counter like white/grey rears and other combos and pearl fronts. Would like to pick up some extras. Thx
Tom
erock1331 04-05-2005, 08:03 AM Question....are the white-gray rears
White-Gray-White
Or
White inside and Gray on the outside of the tire?
Racin Steve 04-05-2005, 01:41 PM Erock,
White-Gray is ... White inside and Gray outside.
Steve.

Mr.fastman 04-07-2005, 10:27 PM Have you ever tried silver rears?
chuck47 04-10-2005, 02:29 PM Fastman, well here are the results of my last race I had race issues in every heat and the main so I didn't have a chance to see clearly if I bettered my lap times but I feel I could have been better and may have been close to the track record:thumbsup: I did as you said and put a gray on the LR then put a gray on the RR and for the next heat I put a harder blue JACO on the RF cause I didn't have a BSR and the last heat I put a gray silver on the LF and the car drove real good in fact one of the racers tried it out and said it was better than his L4.
Now on the springs I switched to a heavier springs on the front the heaviest in fact a black LF and a purple RF wolf springs I also went up a notch on my center shock I'm in the third hole down to put more pressure on the front tires and that worked good too.I'm wondering about the rear springs, I have a gold on the left and a opaque on the right wolf springs here too if I go up here what will that do loosen up the rear or free up the car.
Our big trophy race is next month and I won't be able to try out the new changes till Friday night and practice on Saturday the day of the race so I want to have a plan in place (work has to fit in here somewhere) So what is the diagnosis? Thanks for all the help.

Well it sounds like your pretty happy with the setup now. Its best to plan a little like your doing, try small changes like heavier side springs and scale your car before and after the change so you can start each time with the same weights and adjust from there.

chuck47 04-11-2005, 11:49 AM Then it sounds like I'm on the right track to tune it hey:) the stronger springs on the side shocks will loosen the rear, is that right:confused:
bud3738 05-09-2005, 07:48 AM Had a question ..anyoner else try this...
I have been running 19T for approx. 2 years now on flat tracks...I have been using 3 pinks and a purple.....I just switched to Stock but I still have several sets of pinks and purples and havnt bought any greys and whites..........The car seem to handle real good and I clean the tires after every run...Do you think because of the pinks and purples ,Im scrubbing any speed or
as long as they are clean it wont matter......curious if any others experimented with this
BrentP 05-09-2005, 09:29 AM Double pinks work very well in stock in mega high bite situations (Snowbirds). Most tracks don't have enough bite for them to work well at weekly shows. There is a guy at our track that is able to run a double pink RR, with a white LR & is pretty fast with it. I don't like the feel of mixing Natural rubber compounds with Exotics. I'm sure you could make it work for you if you play with your set up though.

jajnmj 05-09-2005, 10:37 AM I feel under most circumstances on carpet that the pinks are too aggressive for stock or 19 turn, i have personally ran best with white lf white lr grey rr and grey silver rf in stock and 19 turn. I like the way they feel with the pinks and dbl pinks but i don't feel that the car is free enough on them. To prove my theory in 19 turn i can change to pink lr and dbl pink rr and motor temp will go up about 15 degrees, that is proof enough for me, and lap times are slower too......that is just my opinion though!!!!!!!!!

JPHRacer 05-09-2005, 11:08 AM Any way can be fast if you tune around it. It best to just stick with what you know and are comfortable working with and make the car work with those tire. In my experience tires in oval racing are 90% of the game. I have never been one to tune with the exotic tires. I allways run pinks-purps high rubber tires and have no problem baing fast. In fact I dont know a person locally that runs exotic tires come carpet season, mainly because we do soo much outdoor racing its easier to tune with tires that they are more framilliar with. It will take a different setup to go fast with pinks/purp vs the exotic tires, but just as long as you find it, you wont be loosing anything.
Its also really important with pinks and purp that you dont run any one set of tires more then 3-5 runs a day. Its also a fact that fresh tires are allways faster. (either fresh new, or fresh after being washed) Its best if you have 2-3 sets of full tires that you can rotate on the car every few runs. I will run one set through pratice 1st and 2nd qual and then put on fresh tires for the 3rd qual and main.
Hope this helps

bud3738 05-09-2005, 12:02 PM The only setup change from 19T to stock I made was I wasnt gooping the RF for stock..19T I would and would add 2 clicks of steering....Everything else stayed the same.........I do clean the tires every run with Motor spray and let Air dry for 20 to 30 Mins before going back out......Car handles great...........
Mr.fastman 05-09-2005, 08:48 PM When I run stock on flat carpet I've always been much faster with exotic or regular foams. For 4c stk, the more you can free the car up the faster you'll go. I typically run greens on the inside frt and rr, and silver/grey rf and a grey rr, and tune from there.
On a different note just ran Bsr's on the asphalt for the first time since joining Bsr and all I can say is keep up the great work John. First time out TQ and win, these are the best tire's I've ever run.

Yes -- Hays at LEFTHANDER R/C has the new BSR blacks. They are exactly the same as the Jaco blacks as I understand it. I got a pair of fronts and they feel exactly like the Jaco black compound.

I am not being a wiseguy, I would really like to know how you wash the tires.....I want to try it. Thanks
TeamGoodwrench 09-26-2005, 11:59 AM I wash them out with Dawn dishwashing soap after race day.
If I'm at the track, I use lighter fluid between each run.

Fronts or Rears ?
ericsalvas 09-27-2005, 12:51 PM 1st time out... TQ and a Win at Maximus Maine for the S.O.S. race in 4 cell stock...
those were in between grey-silver and grey as far as traction goes....they were simply great...tire wear wasn't a factor...
great job Kevin and John...

RC300 09-27-2005, 06:32 PM I bought a package of gold fronts last year and never tried them, but I see nobody is running them. What is the story on them? Mine duro about 44.
philb1 09-27-2005, 07:53 PM The #s are from fronts, will get a better test of them this weekend. The track I ran last car was constantly turning and had best results with a silver RF.

So are yuou sticking with Greens then down the LS and then Black up front right with a white/grey rear?? Was the black an improvement over say the grey/silver front on the same combo??
PAUL SCHWANBECK 09-27-2005, 11:33 PM I will try to durometer the tires this week and post some results, (misplaced my durometer) But I can tell you this the black is from the grey family of foam it is basically a firm grey. this tire wears better than a grey but has the same traction qualities, most people dont realize that there car is tight or pushing in the corners, that is where this tire comes in. give it a try!!
dave w 1 09-28-2005, 01:32 PM LOVE THE BLACK over a silver gray! for 4 cell stock
erock1331 09-28-2005, 01:41 PM I bought a package of gold fronts last year and never tried them, but I see nobody is running them. What is the story on them? Mine duro about 44.
The golds per John are about the same firmness as a grey but provide less bite.
I often use them as a RR tire for banked tracks.
Never liked them though on the front anywhere, flat or banked.
erock1331 09-28-2005, 01:43 PM Anyone know what the black rears durometer?
I heard Jaco takes the part of the foam that is harder for their black rears (48-52) and use the softer portion for their front tires (39-43).
I was wondering if BSR's black is gonna be harder than their black fronts?
Ginsu 09-28-2005, 02:48 PM Thanks for the dawn dishwashing tip......do you have to worry about them drying out if they sit after you wash them for any length of time?
burbs 09-28-2005, 04:21 PM i would let them sit out until they are dry.. then bag them in an air tight bag so they stay fresh.. i store all my foams in bags.. you should never leave a foam tire out in the air...(even the ones on your car)
pmsimkins 09-28-2005, 07:11 PM Whenever I have tried the washing thing I've found the tires to be very slow for for about 4+ runs after washing. Has anyone else experienced that? That is the reason I never wash mine. I always use pinks and purples, never wash them and never bag them and I don't have problems. I think it is more of a psychological thing. If you think it helps then it does. I am the same way with certain other things, just not the tires.
MIKE VALENTINE 09-29-2005, 08:34 AM pmsimkins, never cleaning your tires will make them stickier and gummy. your car setup and or driving may need a tire with more bite. either way can be fast but, what most of us have found out. when you true new tires or reskim old ones they won't run the same as tires that have been run 10 plus times and never cleaned. so if you clean the tires or wash them, they will run alot closer to newly trued or freshly skimed tires.

Let me clarify. I do clean my tires I just don't care for washing them in soap and water. My general method is to clean before practice starts, then again before I run my last practice pack. Then I do not clean again during racing. Like you said it is all just general preference any way you do it can be successful.
MIKE VALENTINE 09-29-2005, 04:03 PM I consider ligther fliud, motor spray, soap, etc. washing.
MK Race 09-30-2005, 07:06 PM Where do the pearl whites fall in on the chart?
Thanks.
WhirlinGraphics 09-30-2005, 08:48 PM Random question: Does BSR offer 'narrowed' rear 1/10 foam tires for pan cars?
chad
erock1331 09-30-2005, 09:00 PM Where do the pearl whites fall in on the chart?
Thanks.
If his chart has a white listed as a 30-35 I would say a Pearl would be 25-30
they are softer than a white.
PAUL SCHWANBECK 09-30-2005, 09:34 PM BSR does not offer a narrow rear tire , However most people spin the tire on a tire truing machine and cut through the foam and rim to get the desired width
John Foister 10-23-2005, 04:34 PM This is an updated list for BSR foam tire offerings:
BSR
Green.....30 +/-
Blue......55/65 +/-
Pearl White 25/30
White.....30 +/-
Gray/white popular rear tire for some
Gray......40 +/-
Gray/Silver very popular front tire
Black 45/50 new for this season
Pink......30 +/-
Double Pink...35 +/-
Purple....40 +/-
Purple/orange another front tire choice for some
Double Purple.45 +/-
Red.......40/45 +/-
Gold......40 +/-
Silver....45 +/-
I would like to thank all the racers out there who run Johns BSR Racing tires. After nearly 3 years of ownership of BSR I can say the is not a better performing, more consistent, true wheels, perfect bearing fit and the right diameter wheel and tire combination on the market. So if your Hobby shop doesn't stock Johns BSR tires please request them to do so. I made it my goal to support the shops and tracks that provide us with places to race. In conclusion of this PR message our motto is "The Fast just keep getting Faster".

PAUL SCHWANBECK 10-23-2005, 08:54 PM Update , ran the black front all weekend, and all I can say is My hats off to BSR for filing a needed area for front tires, this tire wore good and provided good front bite all day. This tire foam works as good as the Jaco black but now you can get it on a better rim!
TeamGoodwrench 10-23-2005, 08:59 PM Amen!
I ran it in stock on the RF all day and it was super.
MIKE VALENTINE 10-24-2005, 02:47 PM This past weekend at K/N I run blue fronts, with a grey left rear, and the new black right rear. tires were just awsome, never had a problem with finding the right amount of grip to run fast, thank John for a great tire.
erock1331 10-24-2005, 03:32 PM Ran the blacks for the first time at Classic (LF and RR), track was a little loose for a Black RR so I went to a Grey but the car turns really well with them. They didnt soften up too much either which is good.
MIKE VALENTINE 10-24-2005, 03:39 PM I noticed that also, the black didn't get soft after many runs. nice not having to change tires all day.
erock1331 10-24-2005, 03:46 PM Yep, ran mine I think a total of 9 times Saturday, cut them once after the 7th run to get my stagger back but that was about it. Still feeling firm
BEACH 10-24-2005, 04:29 PM Eric, did you always run BSR's?
