Billy Eric and I are going to run the short track ford this weekend at thunder roads warmup race. Whats the best way to mount it. forward, back, or just neutral. Do you have a HD Monte. I would like to get one b4 next weekend. Going to Charlston with G honey. Maybe I could meet you are should I just give yates a call. Oh yea I'm still shaking from Sat man what a weekend.

Richie for the car you are running..KSG... i would mount it neutral... no shovel effect as previously seen...lol.... But with your car and how well it turns i think if you mount it to far forward you might turn too much..... and yes we have the HD monte..... i had a couple with me this past weekend and still do so give me a yell.

Nice to know you are still around latemodel...... cars been do pretty good at several tracks... the gas car is the one that is going nuts....

As far as shippinf to Iraq.... sorry for you you have to come back and pick it up....lol

Hope you make it back homw soon...

And Richie which body did you try?.. found out this past weekend that the guys running the KSG are working rather well with the HD Monte... the ford seems to turn TOO much if that is possible....

Hi Billy, I was wondering if you guys are going to make a light weight body? Mine seems heavy compared to the new protoform dodge.
Thanks,

What are the front and rear width measurements for the regular Taurus and the ST version?

whats the best body for 4 cell stock on flat carpet?

adamliehr
01-24-2005, 03:36 PM
The Short Track Taurus is a VERY good body in stock racing on the flat. Rick White ran it at Halo Hobbies a couple weeks ago and his car was one of the best through the corners.

Fireball... all of our bodies are pulled from .030 lexan.... which was considered industry standard for light weight for years in 1/10th scale .... not sure what Proto pulls from now but they use to stick with .040....

John Card, from memory i will have to double check the measurement. but

Reg Taurus is 7 7/8ths in the front and 8 1/8th in the rear

ST Ford is 7 7/8ths in the front and 8 3/8th in the rear.....

while both seem to be the same in the front measurements the ST Ford has more flareing on the nose to grab a great deal more air for downforce in the front.... the measure, ents are from the locations of the front and rear wheels general location.

Thanks Rick for answereing the question but i will add... the best body depends on mounting ti the chasssis according which chassis you are running some chasssis like the body more forward or more back.... abd plus what you are looking for exactly performance wise.

most guys in stock that have been fast were running a real aero eff. body..i think adam brown runs a D type bolink body...and talbot runs a dodge (protoform)also..whats the best aero body bandit makes?

Rick Liehr
01-24-2005, 10:22 PM
Also I think that the ST Taurus is a 1/4" longer in the rear vs. the reg. Ford. They are a little on the the thick side right now just be easy on the paint. If you need a little more rear bite, don't be affraid to move the wing back more than what you would normally run. It won't hurt you.

i think that the st ford pushes to much air for stock from what i saw... i think the best bandit body for stock would be the monte carlo... im not sure if they have more then one type but the one i saw looked like it would work alright.

One of the speed secrets to take downforce off the front end is the 5th body post that most races use in the front under the hood area can be raised to make the front end of the body round a bit (aka shovel effect). this makes the nose of the body round a bit to take some of the hard edges off to cut out some of the downforce off the front. I know several racrs who use to like the old Bolink "D" type body have tried the monte and the ST ford with this method and it has worked realy well for them.

Alot of which body works best depends on which chasis and how you set the car updepends on which body realy works best.

Some thing to keep in mind as far as tuning goes is that with a real race car the more font end nose weight or pressure does not always make a car turn better. It can make it push. Kind of like when they complain the longer they run the tighter their car be comes... reason ...as the fuel burns off weight leaves the rear and transfers to the front.

As the chassis of today for R/C have improved so much for tuneability this effect has realy begun to show on the r/c cars. We have found that the r/c chassis that turn hard prefer the HD monte... the ST ford put too much front end downforce and made the cars tight... (in mod and 19trn) . IN stock it hasn't been as large a factor due to the speeds and the limited amount of drag the ST Ford produces.

Hope this helps some...

From most of the guys i have talked to running that body with that car you want to run it with the front of the front tire even with the bend on the front dam of the car..... or basicly where the front dam starts to flatten out for the sides that should be the area that is even with the front of your tires. also mount the body where it is a bit higher in the rear compared to mounting the body flat. (trim line parralel with the chassis plate.) mount is as low as you want with out the front tires rubbing the body when compressed.

Thats the way i have seen it on several 700 chassis'.... but i also know Humpty Helms runs his a bit different so he might also offer a sugestion or two....

I'm looking for info on bandits nitro oval pan car. I keep getting sent to gascar but no info on any nitro pan cars. I would like to see on first then the rules. Is there a website? I've tried google and just the Traxxas crap show up under "bandit". I'm getting frustrated

Bandit Taurus BTP5000 on Hyperdrive Pro 2, this was for a banked track and did not want lots of down force, for the stock class. as for the mounting, from the front of
the fender flair to the center of the front axel is 1 1/2". and only a slight bit of rake back to front.

I would like to see what one looks like. I want something run this summer on asphalt without brushes/armatures and $100 batteries. I had a Racetech and it was good for its time. But I've seen HD and KSG so far. What about the braking system etc. How much and where do I buy one if I like the car?

We have a real nice indoor asphalt track that is about 125 and flat as a pancake.

Craig...windex or denatured alcahol is best. i think formula 409 works well to..

hold the body up to the light.. if you see smudges or finger prints, most lilley it is an oily residue...

Billy W

17driver, i always just use dish detergent. i just make sure it is rinsed real well. and i use a shamey cloth to wipe dry.... ( or any cloth that doesn't leave lint)

Ken i will make sure Kevin Andrews e-mails you with info on th gas cars he and Charlie work with those cars i'm realy out in left field when it comes to the gas cars.... AAA Model Supply use to sale them, but we are not sure of AAA's status any more. As far as price goes i will double check tomorrow and let you knwo i know Charlie up graded a couple things and there was a slight price change. i am still looking for the photos of the car also....
