KOZ, should be out the door next week. to the distributors that order them.

EHR, yes i recieved your e-mails i replied tonight. With the 20plus tornados roaming around here the last couple days our phone service has been in and out plus i had a meeting with one of our techinical advisors in Mooresville N.C....so i've been away a bit. Don't recomend driving around in heavy rains with 40 plus miles per hour winds and flooded roads. You can't always take the same route you took there and then back again. ....STUPID Hurricanes. And we didn't get it as bad as many other places. I hate it for the people directly in ones path.

Quick anouncement guys........ We are working on a flyer/ catalogue to send out to shops and racers if you are interested. e-mail us your shop address and we will drop one in the mail when it is done. or if you would like a e-mail version of it we can send an e-mail version.

Helms i take back what i said about the wreck. the truck spun when a van pulled out in front of him and he t-boned them..... not good at all!!!!

Also to let shop owners know DR at MSA just place a big body order and he should be stocked up in the next week. and it will include the new "short track ford".

jbm.. i will have a photo up soon.... haven't forgot... just don't have a camera...lol

Thank You.

Look in the lowerleft hand corner of the front.window you should see the part number
BTP 5000 Ford Taurus
BTP 5002 Short track Ford Taurus

Also you will notice the way the fenders are flared out in front on the ST Ford.

What is the effect of mounting a body more forward or more back?
Thanks

Billy W
09-29-2004, 07:03 PM
Gezer2u, it all depends on the body. With the high down force bodies sliding them forward you get more front end downforce. Kind of like the pindulum (sp) effect the more mass forward of the front tires the more pressure or force pushing down on the front end. Same for mounting it back on the chassis but in reverse. It only takes small movements to get the desired effects. You recive the same effect with the standard bodies but not as aggresssive in the change.

All that being said... the angle of thebody also efects the posistion of the bodies effects as well. i have always treid to start out with the flat to the chassis. or the trim lines on the bottom of the body parralell to the chassis. i consider that a neutruel posistion of the body. Lowering the rear or raising the front will take away some of the effects of the downforces on the body as well.

Hope this helps some..... and i know i am leaving somethings out. So if it leaves anything un answered just fire back...

Got an e-mail on this so i figured i would come back and post the naswer here as well.

I was asked how my body was mounted at Sandhills this past weekend. If anyone doesn't know i just missed TQ in open 19trn. And finished third thanks to a right front spring that gave up.

BUt i had the body mounted .25 inch front the front bumper. or 3.3/4 inches fron the center of the front wheel. it was mounted with the trin line just infront of the rear tire 1/8th of an inch below the parrell line. Basicly i ran the body as low as the rules allow (ROAR) then lowered it in the rear. the wing was a BUD's big bilevel (no Bilevel) mounted down to where the side dams were just off the rear deck lid a hair. and was forward of the rear spoiler to the point that the end of the kick up on the wing was .25 inch from the top of the molded in spoiler.

hope this will help a few guys as well.

This may have been covered before but I missed it. The best thing for taking off the left over sticky from the window masks is Bolink Body Wash. Worked like a charm!

Now I have a question. I just got my first Bandit Ford Taurus (not the short track one) and I had a horrendous time trying to compensate for the lack of downforce on the rear tires as compared to the previous bodies I had been running. Can someone give me some set up tips on how to get the rear end planted again?

Billy W

OK series of questions....

1. What body are you comparing it to?

2. How far back on the chasiss is the body mounted? needs to be as back as you can set it on the chasiss. yes you will need to adjust your body posts.

3. did you mount your wing in the same fashion? most just raise the rear wing a bit. 1/8th is the usual. some a full quarter inch. This will not slow you down any unless you have the wing to high. this body was designed to all for less drag which is gained by taking air off the wing and spoiler. Which will give you more adjustability to the wing to find a better placement of the wing.

4. Is the body mounted flat to the chassis? most start out with the bottom trim line parralell to the chassis.

5. not a question but several racers have told me all they have done (self included) when compared to the Bolink ford. all they have done is add 1/5 oz of more weight to the left rear. This is not always true to everyracer.

Hope this helps some, or is at least gives you some areas to look at.

Billy, I've ran several different bodies......a Bolink Taurus and a Protoform Dodge most recently. The "trunk area", from the bottom of the back window to the spoiler, is twice as long as on the Bandit Taurus 5000 model. The body is mounted as far back as possible, just barely 1 1/8" in clearance between the front and the bumper. The wing is mounted on the body and set to where it is level with the roof height. The body is mounted flat with the chassis. When weighing the car out, I typically have been running 300 grams in the left rear and 175 in the right rear. We cranked it up to 400 in the left rear with very little success.
I know several folks have run the body at BMS with great results, I just don't know how to adjust my car from the set up on with the previous bodies to this one. LOL

Billy W
10-03-2004, 11:56 PM
where are you loose coming off the corners? I'm guessing but as high as the wing sounds to be it might be a pushy -loose.... basicly it turns in and then half way thru the corner and off it will break loose or snap around. if that is whats happening then drop the wing down. and back up to your 300 grams on the left rear and see what happens.

Also what track are you running at and what car. Maybe i can get some info from one of the guys running the same track and body that might help as well.

That's the problem exactly! I talked to Brandon Southerland at the track (BMS), but I guess he's always ran a body with the shorter back end because he sure isn't having any problems! LOL I'm running the HD Pro 2. We're going to go to MSA in Crossville this weekend, will anyone be there that might could help?

Andi forgot to add this from this past weekend...

Congrats to Jim Rufiange on TQ at sandhills in 19trn Saturady night. Jim started out the night out quick but sitting in 3rd i believe with 50 laps and tq at the time was 51. Jim made one change.... put on a Bandit body and went 51 laps in 4:03 which i think was the fastest offical time anyone has turned at Sandhills in 19trn since the new carpet has been laid......

I asked him at the tech table when he came off the track what he changed to pick up so much and ... his words not mine "i just changed the body" ....... performance speaks tons.... Thanks JIm.

I just picked up a ST Ford Taurus this past weekend and it's going in for paint in the morning. Cant wait to put it on the track this weekend darn thing looks so slick and fast. I was never a big fan of the molded-in spoiler until I saw this body. The lines are crisp and the fit is absolutly A+ on my HD SSE Pro2.

I've already won the A main twice while bench racing it, lol.

Thanks for such a great product!!

Rudy, thanks for the compliments..... Rick realy has out done himself with the designs of these bodies lately. And the performance ha been out standing to say the least. Let us know how they work for you or if we can help with any info. mounting these bodies has been the key to there performance. i would sugest that you mount it back a bit on the chassis for the first time. unless you are running a realy short flat track. the ST Ford has been extremly agressive when it comes to turning. and sliding it back a bit will help to get a base line forthe first time running one.

Also congrats on the "bench wins"......lol..... Let us know how you do on the track.

Thanks Jeff... you beat me to it....lol

sorry if i'm iteruptin anybody, i don't know most of you, but this is what happen to me...
i bought a bandit, raced it at my local track. didn't think about it too much jus thought it looked real cool (nice nose). i matched the track record, wich is kind of normal..on my home track.
last week, i went to a big race, so i mounted a hd m/c protoform, cause everybody says they are "the one". i did real good, qual'd 2nd in the b out of 82 racerz.
but when i returned to my home track, that i know really well, the car had a bad push. now i went back to my notes and had everything adjusted back to were i was except the body... so i put the bandit back on and.. wow.
the body made a huge differance in the front downforce... that car would cut in so fast everybody thought i was running the old yellow tires..lol.
man it's fun to be fast, so fun i went out and bought another bandit.
so keep makin em whoever is, cause they totally rock!

mhawk11, try the new Short track ford and see what happens... right now they are tearing up tracks all over....

I will try and get a couple of the racers that have ran the "ST" to offer up some tips to help out. i can offer some but i think it would better if some one with actual race performance with the body offered up advice.....lol

Bob give me a day or two and i will try to get you some good info....

Hey Billy, Thanks for the offer and advise on the new body. Thats one thing I have never really payed much attention to, body placement, I always just line it up so it looks even all the way around. As for short track racing... oh my can you say 87' with tight corners, the record is 94 in 5 minutes, currently held by the Great Pace Gendron, but close on his heals is another great, Steve Salvas. Thank God these two arent local racers, it'd really suck losing to them every week!!! lol

Thanks again Billy, I'll let you know how it goes.

Later,
Rudy

Congrats to Humpty Helms.... didn't win anything, but we can take him off the suicide watch for carpet now....lol..... Helms had a realy great run last night at Sandhills with the ...YES.. the "short track Ford" in Mod ... yes the short track ford... Helms layed down a fast 56 lap run on a night that the track was a bit slow by most accounts... but should have been a good 57 lap run if ... in his own words .. "i could have kept my head out of my butt for the last min of the run"....lol.

For other info of the night Tracy Hogg TQ'd and Roman Pemberton won in mod running older Rick Jordan designed Fords..... nice run for you guys too......

And we have already been asked about the ST ford for the other classes at sandhills. ...Right now with out a little more testing we feel that these short track (hd bodies) have a bit too much drag for the classes a bit slower than mod.

Rudy, tell Pace hello for me i haven't talked to him in months.......

Billy,

What kind of difference on handling should I expect between the regular Taurus and the short track one. I have both, and so far only tried the regular one. Car is real fast but feels real loose and I feel like a little more downforce on all four wheels would help a lot. Will the short track body make it looser or just give it more downforce.

Martin Paradis

Billy W
10-26-2004, 02:38 PM
Martin, you will get more rear down force with the ST Ford, however it will also turn a lot harder. What type track and what class are you runnning. That would help understand what you may be looking for and which body will help the most.

Billy,

I'm racing 4 cell stock, closed rear no wing on a slightly banked (8 deg in the turns, 4 deg in the straights) carpet track. race line is 150'-155'. (the Rock...)

I had to put an extension to the spoiler (1", the tallest allowed by the rules...) in order to get the rear end steady going in the turns with the regular Taurus, and it's already mounted as far back as I could.

The car really is fast, but it's also slightly slippery while turning. I basically need more downforce on all four wheels, but probably a little more on the rear wheels then on the front because I can probably go a tad softer with the front tires, but I don't have that luxury with the rears!
Martin Paradis
