View Full Version : Sci-Fi Metropolis Jupiter Two Replicas
Captain Han Solo 06-02-2004, 06:52 PM I for one cannot wait for these to become available. I plan on purchasing the 2' Jupiter Two as soon as you guy's release it. Question, are there any plans to make a Gemini XII? I actually like the profile and larger viewport of this earlier version of the Jupiter Two. It's a little more believable than the J2's interior. I appreciate you guy's keeping us informed about this stuff,As I am sure the rest of the Lost In Space Fans are. So hurry and get them out!!!High Regards, Mark

Hello!
I plan to make at least one purchase as well, since I have many Jupiter 2s I purchased or built over the years. But, a very accurate Gemini XII (even one of at least 12 inches in diameter), maybe with an optional launch cradle, would be terrific! I always believed it would have been a viable model as a companion piece to the PL Jupiter 2. Some might think the Gemini XII is basically the Jupiter 2, but it is different (longer/larger viewport, different interior and flooring, more shallow lower hull, larger fusion core, few hull surface details, extendable astrogator and different hatch). I think it would be a great product for collectors. Another product that would be great would be a reasonably sized (but not too large) Fuel Barge with a mini-Jupiter 2 model. They would be great to see!

starmanmm 06-07-2004, 09:12 PM Would like to check out their webpage. Have a web address for them?
Seaview 06-08-2004, 10:08 AM http://www.scifimetropolis.com/ should get you to the site. If that fails, go to google, type in sci-fi metropolis and you'll get to the site.
I'm really eagerly anticipating these kits also, but I lack the space to properly display a HUGE 4' diameter one, so I'll be forgoing getting one of those. A 1/2 scale B9 Robot is also in the works, and I look forewards to getting "him" as well.
I wish you would come out with a model of the small 1 foot Jupiter 2 SPFX model. No gear would be required, and only a blinking light in the bubble. Maybe a 'wind-up' system and LEDs for the fusion core. I've planned one, just never made it.
Do you know if 2400 bucks is in range for your 4 footer????

mark, this jupiter 2 is going to be made from "thermoformed"plastic ? how is that different from injection molded plastic like the polar lights J2 ? is it like vaccuform lunar kits do you think ?

hey seaview, i am already planning on space for mine when ever i am able to get one. when i do, i plan on photographing it over on the ajoining property which happens to be the "PONDEROSA RANCH" from BONANZA, and get a few pictures of it landing and landed in the ranch house yard and also inside the cartwrights living room. Now that the ranch is closed to the public, i have a lot more free acess inside the property.
It took a LOOOOOOOOONG time for them to get the 2 footer out, I'm not holding my breath for the 4 foot job. It may take YEARS before they actually offer it.
bert model maker 05-15-2005, 09:27 PM they will be looking at how well the 2 footers sell, if they are as good as i think they are the parts look great and all the notches and pins looks like everything will be a fantastic fit
before i buy onw of these kits, i will make sure other people get them,....everyone remembers the "UNOBTANIUM DEBACLE".........hehehehe
A Taylor 05-16-2005, 12:14 PM Thermoformed = Vacuum formed. It's just thicker plastic than Lunar used.
Well, not precisely... they may not have used a vacuum to form this, gravity might have done the job.

bert model maker 05-16-2005, 01:28 PM how structurely strong is this material compared to lunars vaccuform ? will this kit need to be braced inside i wonder ?
A Taylor 05-17-2005, 12:17 PM Heavier material will make for a sturdier kit.

bert model maker 05-17-2005, 12:23 PM how soon will we see the first kit recieved by a customer ?

ham1963 05-31-2005, 11:19 PM yes they were at Wonderfest this year, and they had a build up of the J-2 and were selling action figures. The J-2 looked pretty good also:)
veedubb67 05-31-2005, 11:33 PM So was their 1/2 scale B9 robot. I talked to them at length and they seem to want to put out a quality product. It just takes time.
A Taylor 06-01-2005, 12:44 PM I was told the J2 kits should begin shipping this week. They had a delay from a subcontractor for some essential parts that were due any day.
Captain Han Solo 06-01-2005, 02:46 PM I was told the J2 kits should begin shipping this week. They had a delay from a subcontractor for some essential parts that were due any day. I am looking forward to receiving my 2' Jupiter Two Kit. I have High Hopes for these guys. I really want them to succed. I own the John Robinson and DR.Smith figures. They are top notch!!
Lets hope someone takes a TON of pictures of the kit as it progresses from a bunch of parts to the finished model.
Captain Han Solo 06-01-2005, 04:25 PM Lets hope someone takes a TON of pictures of the kit as it progresses from a bunch of parts to the finished model.I may do it for you guys. I have to get my brother in law to hook up my computer so I can download pictures of some of my other models as well. I built the 2'Lunar kit about 6 years ago and had a blast with it. It has a full interior that I scratch built. A lighted Interior, Working landing gear, working airlock and working Fusion core.I had a LOT OF FUN building the Lunar kit. Yes, there are challenges in it's construction, but I am Happy with the result. I painted it in the Light Grey color of the first season(My favorite Season). In that scale, it actually looks better than the usual silver! I may in fact build an Interior for my Sci- Fi Metropolis kit as well. That is if those guys don't plan on it. I really believe It is worth the wait with these guys. The Action figures have a level of detail that show how much these guys love Lost In Space!High Regards, Mark.

In Fact I really had fun with it. Sure it is more challenging than an Injected kit, but I personally like the Lunar Kits.
When the LM 2 footer was the only game in town, it was just a BIG vaccuform kit. I had a LOT of work to do on MINE because I made it do all the stuff the hero did. Overall, if I were to make it a static display model, it would have been a 4 weekend project. The rotating lights (not LED chasers) and those sliding doors were BIG headaches to get to work reliably.
bert model maker 07-30-2005, 11:48 AM and getting the hulls to line up correctly after installing the landing leg wells inside the lower hull, caused an overhang of one side of the upper hull
Any decent pictures YET?????
When??
woof359 08-16-2005, 04:26 PM on my 2 foot luner, i sanded both hull flat on the garage floor useing sand paper taped together so the hulls laid only on the paper, then sand the edges flat.
after that i use 5 minute epoxy and started in the front and slowly worked my way around, glueing hold and the circufrance mated perfectly.
