Just wanted to announce that Classic Hobbies will start their Asphalt oval racing this weekend Saturday May 8th.

Each Saturday the doors open up at 11:00 and racing starts at 5:00 PM. 3 heats and followed by the mains.

Track is 285' center line and approx 265' runline - 14' lanes
Surface - Asphalt (new as of May '03) - Very smooth

Looks like we will be running foams again this summer. Some caps were tried but were not as sucessful as planned. If that changes I post back.
Compounds used:
Trinity Tire Tweak, Trinity Red Dot, Stick-Et, some even use Jack Da Gripper

Since turnout is lower in the summer most of the locals are planning on running 4-cell Masters stock. If people travel in though I am sure some will run 19T as well or maybe even mod for bigger races.

There is plenty of space if you have a trailer or EZ up Canopy (if you pit outside you will need tables and chairs and extension cords)

Or you can pit inside, tables are provided.

Here are some pics of the track.
For the track website and more info please visit
www.classichobbiesraceway.com (http://www.classichobbiesraceway.com/)
Hope to see you this summer

Are there any big events being run this summer?

I might have to come race on the track. I took at look at it when I was there this winter and it looks like A LOT of fun. Is it safe to assume it is a purple tire track? I will see you guys sometime this summer.

Are there any big events being run this summer?I heard 2 events are being planned.

There were talks of Powerpush sponsoring a race - not sure when though.

And I would imagine the ARCOR Ohio state paved race will be sometime in September.
Once something is set up by Walt I will get the word out.

Jamie,
As far as tires, Purples have been working. Maybe something a little softer, pink for the LR.
Aquas will even work in the rear but they wear really quickly.

Hello all,

Does anyone have the hours of operation of the hobbyshop at the track? I was hoping to stop out and and buy some pan tire foams this week. I tried calling at 2pm today and also checked website-but cannot find the info.

Thanks in advance,
Ray

Ray,
Normal hours are Tues through Friday - 11:00-7:00
Saturday 11:00 till whenever the racing ends
Sunday - I think 11:00 to 4:00 or so.

Walt stocks a decent amount of foams in BSR, TRC and Jaco
I would call first to see what all he has though.

Eric,

Thanks!! I was hoping for a quick reply so I didnt drive down there today and find them closed. I am gettng a hyperdrive 510 soon and would like to try running with you guys once or twice this summer.

I have Blue fronts and Green rears already-what are the longer wearing non-exotic compounds that work on the asphalt?

Oh-yeah-I also dont have an arbor to cut the rears-does Walt have a truer to cut customer tires?

Thanks again,
Ray

Ray,
To be honest if you only run once or twice a Blue right front will work and greens will work in the rear, you might want a softer Left front though. But they will wear really quick !!!!

So far this summer most have been on
BSR - new style since John took over (the old style Purples are too hard)
Soft Purple - LF
Hard Purple or Red - RF
Pink or Double Pink - LR
Double Pink or Purple - RR

That should get you real close.

The reds, purples and pinks are mixed with Natural rubber to extend their wear life.

Barring any rain (40% chance right now), we should have a pretty good turnout on Saturday.

Adam Martin, are you racing Saturday??

erock1331

Peachock already hit the 41 mark the first night out.

Hey guys due to the bad weather today, the races are cancelled, but most guys can make it tomorrow so Walt is having races tomorrow (sunday May 16) at 1:00, doors open at 11:00

So far me, the Liehrs, Peachock, Adam Martin, Garey Smiley are all in. Possibly some others.
C-ya there.

Well the 42 lap mark was finally hit yesterday,
Frank Peachock busted out a 42 4:05 yesterday for a
NEW TRACK RECORD !!!
Congrats Frank, car was definately dialed.

Jim Porter in his new Pro 1 car took the 1/4 scale main. His car was on rails.

Does Classic put any traction additives on the track on Saturday? I ask so that if I go practice during the week-the traction will be similar to Sat night.

Thanks,
Ray

erock1331
05-18-2004, 12:36 PM
Ray,
No track additives.

Everyone pretty much runs Trinity Tire Tweak 2000 if you can find it.
If not that Trinity Red Dot will work. If you can't find either of them, Stick-et for foams or Jack the Gripper can be used too. But they do not seem to have as much grip as the Trinity products.

If you use the Tire tweak just put in your tires and rub it in with your fingers, then let it sit for about 5-7 minutes then wipe off with a rag before hitting the track.

Thanks!!! Waiting for my Hyperdrive to show up then I will finish it up. Do yu guy's run any stagger on the front tires?

erock1331

Frank Peachock up's his mark again. 42 4:01. To re-set the track record once again.
Frank and his new car are flying.

Ricky L and I both hit the 42 lap mark finally. So props to us too, LOL
even though we were 3 seconds slower than Frank. I'll take it though.

Is anyone going to be there this Saturday to race. Some of us MI guys were thinking about comming to race.

erock1331
06-15-2004, 08:51 AM
Jamie,
I know myself and Joel Biro are gonna be there.
It's pretty much been the same group of guys all summer.
The Liehrs, Peachock, Garey Smiley, Jeff Creary, Adam Martin, Rick White, a few guys from Cleveland have been coming down, and some other locals. We have all been running stock so we know each week there will be a class to run in. But I know Peachock and a couple others have been itching to run 19T to prep for the Seaford race.
Come on down, track opens at 11:00, racing starts at 5:00.
3 rounds and then the mains.
Pan cars have been finishing up around 10:00-10:30 or so.

Hope to see you there,
Eric H.

A lot of the racers for this weekend have some previous engagements, so a trip to Akron is not going to happen. Maybe some other time.

7/10/04 RACING UPDATE:
Well no rain whatsoever and the first 100 lap main is in the books. Joel Biro set the early pace leading most of the race but used up a bit too much voltage. Frank Peachock with 100 laps took the win with Ron Mick finsihing 2nd with 98 laps, and myself 3rd with 97 laps.
The rest of the field turned the wick up a bit too much too early and dumped around the 85-95 lap mark.
Definately a good time and can't wait to run another one. I love the strategy aspect of trying to conserve battery but yet running decent lap times.

TRACK UPDATE:
The pole is up in the backshoot, the new lights should be up in a week or 2. Big props to the Nitro TC guys for donating their time, supplies and efforts on this project.

RACE UPDATE:
Right now we are in the process of scheduling a big race towards the end of summer.
We are trying to pick a date that works best for everyone, stay tuned it should be a good one. Alot of guys have already asked about it from out of town.

Will do, we talked with Walt about scheduling the race last Saturday.
The next question was whether or not we were going to get some sponsors for the race.
If we do I will be sure to get in touch with you.
Do you think you will be able to make a trip out to our track for the race? Most likely we are looking sometime in Mid September, probably the 18th. Our track is very similar to Willow Mill, just a tad longer, wider turns and pretty smooth.

Thanks
Eric
