View Full Version : Dirt Runners Outdoor Season 2004
nicwald 08-26-2004, 09:05 AM Anybody know which shop gives good support for 1/8th buggies? I am running my violator with whatever oil they came with. They are filled with silicone oil, but they have no impact on how the diff unloads. It's too late to order them online where I get most of my stuff. I know hobbytown doesn't, and kenvil doesn't, what about zeppelin?
I appreciate any help.
I'd agree with Tone, try Cruisin'
If they don't have it, you could also try Crispy Critters in Totowa on Union blvd.

rgross98 08-26-2004, 09:39 PM Hey Guys,
I run mostly nitro. I bought an electric T3 :) . I also bought a new 9T double speed gems motor. How do I properly break in the electric motor??
Also I have the stock spur gear,87T. What is a good pinion gear tooth for top speed? IT will be used for bashing in the street and for some short grass and jumps.
Thanks
Robert

to break in the motor run it at about 1/4 throttle (use you're throttle trim) for 5 minutes.

According to the T3 manual, they reccomend an 18T pinion for their "power 20" motor. So I would say go to a larger spur (>90) and somewhere around a 15T pinion.
I break my motors in on my power supply at 3-5volts for 6 minutes, a 4-cell battery pack also does the trick, just direct wire the battery to the motor (or a lot easier with some added alligator clips), and run for about 6 minutes or so.

Rofl.... ok Robbie, thsi is the dealie... get a 15 tooth pinion, and u can use the 87 spur for it....
as for break in.. there is several ways.... 1/4 throttle for 3 mins..... or use a motor break in box for 3 mins, OR get a 3 cell battery and run it for 3 min.....
its great that you got yourself a little basher - but my prediction.... it'll become a race car for NEXT year!!!

-ToneWell, let me put it this way, it's 4 O'clock and I am in Maryland, so even if I could leave now, that would put me there sometime after 9 or 10 with traffic...So I won't be up tonight :(. As it is I won't be leaving work until 5:30.
0.007 is the thin body thickness for slot cars, thats where than number came from.
Nick
edit: I'll still build you a car this week though, if you want.

Gary NJ 08-27-2004, 04:23 PM Tone - All I have is some .040, which I'll bring Sunday. Its a little heavier than you need - 030 would probably be ideal - but I don't have any 030. For the MiniT you really wouldn't want anything more than 010 or 015 - those bodies are pretty thin. You can get an 8" x 10" sheet of 010 at Zeppelin for just a few bucks, don't know if they have thicker sheets.

Gary, I think at minimum it should be 0.015 Thick, I think that may even be a litte too thin, my mini-T body is definitely thicker than 0.010, rpobably in the 0.020 or 0.025 range, or maybe I'm off by a lot....who knows

wayneny 08-28-2004, 09:03 AM Tone, the car is what we are running now.If you can get it real cheap go for it. The controller is exactly what you need. They are claiming new in box. It would be 55.00 at Zeppelin for that exact controller.
Erik, I will gladly help you tune the Maxx on sunday. Are you planning on racing it? If you are that is cool. If you can get there a little early it would be better. See you then.
Craig, the Dirtrunners phone number is 862-268-1632. It is on 24 hours a day. A message can be left at any time. I will sign you up for the two classes.
I am hoping to get all my stuff done early today so that I can finish breaking in my 1/8 buggy and get it tuned to be able to race. I have other stuff that needs fixing. I relly need to get my Oval Maxx up to snuff so I can put a big case of hurting on Paul. He has solidly beat me the last two races and now it is time to make my comeback. His Maxx has been running awesome and fast. I've got a few tricks up my sleeve though.
We shall see.
Well I am off to the workshop to get started. See all in the morning!!!!!.................................WAYNE
P.S.- Tone my Mini-T will be running. It will just be in stock form probably till the challenge.
kybob 08-28-2004, 09:24 AM wayne i plan on racinit and beating ryan with his maxx. what time would be best for me to get there so you could have time to fix it?
