Marshalls runs on their asphalt oval Saturday night at 6pm, don't have any other details. Are Ryan and Craig running mod truck too, or do you wanna run stock? I'll bring mine, and I think Chris will drag his along.

Marshalls is easy to get to off Rt 84...u need directions?

For stock you have to run a club motor, and I think you have to use spec tires for all of the off road stuff. TMaxx uses stock tires, buggies and trucks run the losi spec tires. I would give them a call just to check and make sure before you guys head up.

ryan and i wanted to race truck offroad r all u guys goin to wval or offroad and what tires r good and how much a car to race
idk i just got 2 new mod motors and idk what i want to run now cuz i got a paridime motor my d6 and my vantage and i just gave tone my stock motor with my rustler

Marshalls runs different times for oval. I think oval is saturday night, offroad is sunday. Depending on what day you go will decide what you run. Just call them to find out the skinny.

When I called Bill at Marshall's on Monday to ask about the race, I asked what tires were working, and he said guys were having good luck with step pins in electric truck. Didn't say anything about spec tires, and he knew we were coming from another track.

5 min. without blinking my eyes. What fun!

Now I think John has the right idea, those would definitely be cool to have, and light wouldn't be much of a problem anymore, how about the club just buys 10 of these babies and we can race till midnight!

I think everyone should get the new trinity T-specs for indoors, I got one and want to race them, they're not bad cars, full ball bearings (minus 4 in the ball diffs), shaft drive, good adjustment capabilities, spec foam tires (only $2 cheaper than std foams though), and they use the same battery/motor as the street spec. Everyone should have one! They'll be good on the oval, I also think they'd be good on our mini-roadcourse. I got my kit with battery and motor for $140, so they're pretty cheap too. The 21 turn would be a good speed for the roadcourse for people new to road racing, and from what I've heard from Jon the cars handle real well. Come on, do it! You know you want to!

Oh yeah, and they come built.

Yup my car is toast since it was hit so many times since none could see.

Now Jim, did that really have anything to do with the daylight?  :jest:

Just browsing through the old posts and catching up...wanted to add my .02c:

Regarding Jim Smith's itemized list (couldn't resist, Jim ;-) of complaints, I for one really enjoy coming to DR for the whole day of racing. It's a local club where you can chill-out for the day, banter with friends. It's not high-stress. I have probably the longest commute of anyone at the track (Bayonne - 1.25 hours) and it's no big deal to get home at say 8:30 PM at night for only $8 paid for some fun and relaxation. BUT, that's just me.

Hello All,
Looking for some advise here. The T-Maxx motor is blown (No compression @ temp). It's a OS CVRX 15. There is a sick upgrade for this engine that uses a Copper Tungsten sleeve with a ceramic / graphite piston that is resistant to high temperatures. The cost for this upgrade is only about $100. I'm unsure of the performance benefits, but would like to explore other options such as a complete engine replacement. This is a legacy max with side exhaust.
Thanks All !!! Rory

Thanks All !!! RoryRory - My advice would be the same I gave Tone below - the OS CVR 18. In your case, since you are already setup for side exhaust, it should be a dropin. Invest in the right pipe. With heavy trucks like a Maxx that need torque, there is no substitute for cubic inches...

If you've run the current OS long enough to wear out the piston and sleeve, you should probably also be thinking about a new rod and bearings. At that point you're up to the price of a new 18, and you've still only got a 15.

Sunday was a blast even though I got smoked in 2 of the 3 classes I ran in! I had a ton of fun! :D Crashing into everything (and everyone) in the dark was cool too till I broke my new MF2, but it's easily fixable and will be ready to be broken again on another raceday soon.
What wasn't fun was watching a few of my new DR friends getting hurt while marshalling... I know 3 people who got burnt  and another had his finger ripped open marshalling the 1/8 race :( !
All of these were obviously accidental, but I was thinking that there should be gloves available (or maybe required) for marshalling in the interest of everyone's safety.
Any thoughts on this?

>> I vote, gloves and lights!

I'm new to the Nitro world and would appreciate some advice on a Revo upgrade. I'm looking at a Sirio TX-18 (3.0) Nitro Engine. They claim "DIRECT BOLT-IN FITS T-MAXX 2.5 & EZ START 2" which sounds like it would be drop in for the Revo. Am I guessing right on this one and if so, is the TX-18 going to make much of a difference???

There are gloves available, they are in the truck. We have put them out in the past, but no one takes them. I agree that no one should get hurt, but if you marshall a gas race with out gloves, you have to expect to get burnt or have a finger cut.

We will have lights for the next race.

You're on a great point concerning the gloves. My son Kevin and I earlier this year noticed a young woman who occasionally races with us at DR, Kristen, wearing gloves when she marshalled, and we thought it was a great idea. He got both of us a pair of the Mechanix Wear gloves for my birthday last month, which we now wear when we marshall. We both feel much safer, and they help protect aginst pipe and clutch burns, and finger cuts like the one Rob got Sunday. I don't think that the club should provide and keep track of gloves, but personally, I won't marshall or pit for someone running nitro again without wearing them. I want my own so I can have them in my toolbox wherever I go to race. Again, great observation.

And I'm glad you had such a good time racing Sunday!

I'm sure that this advice is worth what you paid for it, but if I had a new Revo and I was racing it at a track as short as DR, I wouldn't worry about HP if the stock 2,5 was working ok (and it sounds like the 2.5's in the Revos are generally running pretty reliably). I think you'd be better off putting your time and money into making the truck lighter and more responsive: ditch the two steering servos and replace them with a good single one, ditch the reverse and optidrive, replace the EZstart with a pullstart or Rotostart or bumpbox, replace the stock tires, get all the various option springs and rockers, etc and fool around with suspension setup and gearing. I think you'll get a lot more bang for the buck going in that direction. As you lighten the truck it will have the net affect of accelerating harder anyway.

Nick,

What would the rules be for tspec if we were to race them indoors? They would be very similar to the street spec rules we run now. Trinity hasn't put out official rules yet, but I know what the main ideas will be.

No aftermarket parts, cars must remain in stock form.

Must use spec battery and motor.

Since we're running on carpet, TRC makes spec foam tires (easy to tech with a red rim).

Speed control can retail for no more than 130.

Any radio/receiver/servo.

Gear ratio will be limited to a range of pinions and a set spur size. (The car comes with a spur and composite pinion).

Must cut body on cut line.

No cutting/drilling/lightening anything on the car in anyway.

Must use Spec brushes in the motor, and they can not be treated and/or cut.

The car comes with ball bearings throughout the car, except in the ball diffs (4 bushings). With Street Spec, trinity allows all bearings, even though the spec comes with bushings in the right side hub, so they may allow bearings in the ball diffs.

I think that’s a good starting point, and I'm sure this is how the rules will be from Trinity.

The intent for this class is to keep racing costs down and for anyone to be able to buy a car and be competitive. When I get to try the car on the track and play with the setup I'll let everyone know what is working for me.

I'm going to start out with purple rear tires, plaid front tires, probably 50 wt oil all the way around, no sway bar, 5mm ride height. Probably 0 degrees or 1 degree of toe in the front, probably 1 or 2 in the rear, and -2 degrees camber on all 4 corners

I am impressed with the car, especially for $140 with battery and motor, and it comes built. I rebuilt the car just to see if there was much I could do to make it more efficient, and the number one thing I would do, is to add shims to the differential assembly, but I do not know if that will be legal in the rules, so I'm holding off on that till the official rules are released. With out breaking in the car, I think it is pretty efficient and has good potential.
