dmitry88 08-09-2004, 10:38 PM craig what time eviltone 08-10-2004, 01:27 AM ok, i've been searching and searching for tmaxx engines.... all that i can come up with is https://www.ssl-stormerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/seekpart.pl?pn=S18TX&showbig=6809 being the TRinity Sirio .18.... its the same price as the O.S. but it looks to be an absolute drop in... the O.S. seems to need a crank cut, and a conversion to rotary carb linkage.. the only O.S. .18 that i have found with a slide carb says it is for ONROAD applications... plus the othe suckworthy thing about a new engine HAS to be the fact that my one-piece racing pipe CANT be used with ANY of the new engines.... so i gotta get a new pipe too!! if i get the Sirio -0 and its lookin to be the best IN STOCK EVERYWHERE option, i'll prolly get the Pipe that they recommend as well... i am kinda bummed tho... i was really interested in the Fantom FR.18, but NO ONE has them... maybe i need more info on the O.S. NS HOW TO APPLY IT TO THE RMAXX - I'VE SEARCHED, BUT I HAVENT FOUND ANY INFO AS OF YET.... damn caps lock... i am TOOOOOO lazxy to retype... this is a suckworthy problem tho..... -Tone Gary NJ 08-10-2004, 07:31 AM Tone, this would be the OS 18 you'd want: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGGP6&P=0. Farther down in the description it says it is for onroad applications, but that is only because as a general rule you run slide valve carbs in onroad, rotary in offroad. Of course, the TMaxx is an exception, as are 1/8th buggies. The slide vs rotary thing offroad is not an issue with 4WD like it is with say 1/10 gas truck. You would definately want the slide carb version in a TMaxx. I understand all you need with this motor in a TMaxx is the clutch nut used on the older Maxxes (pre 2.5, can't remember the name) and then the clutch from your 2.5 bolts right on. As to the exhaust, yes it is a side exhaust, so you need the header from the old Maxx, too, and a straight pipe. Just make sure whatever you use for the pipe that it is something more for a big block application. Personally, I'd be looking at 1/8th scale pipes, or at a minmum a pipe from an outlaw 15. Don't run something overly restrictive. Price on the OS is also quite a bit cheaper than the Sirio. Kevin and I have had good luck with our Fantoms, and I'd still take the Fantom over the Sirio, especially on our track (Fantom is very torquey) but if I was buying today for myself I'd go OS. The OS's weren't out yet when we bought our Fantoms. nicksplaything 08-10-2004, 09:37 AM http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?BV_UseBVCookie=Yes&vertical=TOOL&pid=03473925000&subcat=Work+Lights ^^light solution^^???? You're not jerryrigging anything, you're just using the standard Traxxas clutch nut for an engine that doesn't have an integrated pilot shaft. The nut, besides holding on the flywheel, also has a smooth surface for the clutch bell bearings to ride on. Here's the link http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJF69&P=0 As to the header you need, it's also a standard standard Traxxas item http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXSP45&P=0 I'm sure both Zeppelin and Cruisin' would have these parts in stock - they're easy to find, standard stuff. Oh, and good thing we didn't run the sprinters... (3 car B mains didn't help either...) Well Jim, I'll go out on a limb here and start with the assumption that you were offering constructive comments in the spirit of wanting to help the club and our racing. That said, I'll throw in my two cents on your ideas and observations. "How about STARTING when the schedule says we will How about NOT taking entries at 10:55 when they are supposed to close at 10:15". I guess these two go together, and I honestly don't have any personal knowledge of whether entries were indeed accepted late. Wayne would have to be the one to comment on that. I know Wayne was working with Samantha to help get her acclimated to entering the racers, but I don't think that had any significant impact on the start time. We did have a huge number of frequency conflicts, owing to a lot of new racers, and a lot of new racers on 27mhz. We also had a problem with a single racer who we just couldn't get resolved. He was using a less common brand of radio that required him to use that manufacturer's crystals. He ended up coming up with four different frequencies, none of which was without conflicts. He was certainly making a good faith effort to get a setup that would work. The problem with sorting out the conflicts is that we have to resolve them one at a time. The good news is that over time, once the # of entries stabilizes, the frequency conflicts tend to dissappear as people in the a given class naturally gravitate to frequency that don't conflict with others in the class. By the end of the indoor season last year, we were getting over 100 entries and having zero frequency conflicts. "How about keeping to TWO minutes between heats (you're not ready you don't run, if you ever plan on running big events get used to it)". Well, speaking as someone who has done a bit of the announcing this year, we do run on a two minute clock between heats, and we really do try to keep to it...and in a large percentage of races, we get the next race off in less than two minutes. We don't try and "push" the clock in the gas races, because those guys need the warmups (and two minutes is actually too short a warmup for gas). The things that hose this up are: 1st, when we have a racer running in back to back classes. This does happen occasionally no matter how we rearrange the heats, and we just try to accomodate that as best we can; and 2nd, we can't start if a racer doesn't have a transponder available to put in his car. This IS an area that we could use help with from everyone. If the racers would get off the drivers stand quickly, return the transponders, not go back to the pits with cars and radios and instead just get right out to marshall it would help. We all are guilty of not doing this at times - me included - and we should all be more consciensious about it!! "How about NOT running the B's first (run 'em if ya got time)" We feel very strongly that everyone who races at DR deserves to run in a main, wherever they qualify. We always run the low mains first (just like every other track does), and we will soon start running bump ups from the low mains in the nitro classes, since they only get one chance to qualify. For bump ups to work the low mains have to run first. "How about all classes running the same length". Basically, they all do. The gas classes race a total of 15 minutes (1 5 min qualifier, 1 10 minute main). Electrics run 12 minutes (2 4 min qualifiers, and a 4 minute main). The electric racers had a proposal in front of them at the rules meeting to make the electric classes all 5 minutes (proposed by me), and the electric racers voted to stay at 4 minutes. With the exception of novice and Rustler Spec, I can't begin to understand why they voted it down. 5 minute heats would have given the electrics 15 minutes of race time, same as gas. And we save time in the gas classes by running 1 5 minute gas qualifier and a 10 minute main, as opposed to 2 5 minute qualifiers and a 5 minute main. "How about limiting entries to a reasonable number". So what does this mean? Only so many people get to race? What is your specific suggestion? "How about if you are called to the computer to resolve freq conflicts and you are NOT there to resolve you do not run" As I said above, the number of conflicts we had this week were very unusual, and not typical. We sent certain individuals, one in particular, back to his pits repeatedly before we could solution him. "And let's not even start with the MARSHALLS, we need MARSHALS, you run, take out the transponder and GET ON THE TRACK" As I said above, agreed, and it is something we all need to work on together. I read an underlying tone in your comments that the board should get tougher and meaner and "make the trains run on time". Let me tell you Jim, I don't see the board moving in the direction of making a day racing at DR look like being a day at work. They are trying to keep this fun, and balance the need to have a schedule and get done, while still keeping the tone light and positive and fun. You don't achieve that balance by yelling at the racers and finding ways to exclude people. I spend at least an hour after every race with Wayne on the phone, and speaking with Charlie in person, dissecting the previous week and trying to find ways to tweak and improve the process while raising the fun quotient. These guys work on both morale and process with equal enthusiasm, and the result of their effort is seen in entry counts for weekly club races that dwarf other tracks "big races". Charlie and Wayne are always looking for good ideas, and they haven't cornered the market on them, so feel free to pass 'em along. Gary Gary NJ 08-10-2004, 11:36 PM Since we're not running this coming Sunday, and since the Barn crew is all heading up to RC Madness, Wayne, Chris and I are going on a road trip to Marshalls to race offroad on Sunday...anyone from DR wanna go? Signups close at 11:30, races start at 12. Two qualifiers and a main. (All 5 minutes in electric, 5 min Qs in nitro, 15 minute main). Bill at Marshalls said they always have a 1/10 gas truck class, and 1/10 electric truck class (always run stock - with DR club stock motors - and sometimes mod). Also TMaxx, 1/8th scale buggy. He will run a class for 3 of anything. Post here if anyone is interested in taking a ride, and what classes you might run. I have a few club stock motors if anyone needs one to run stock. Let me know if you have any questions and we'll get answers. The long range weather forecast for the weekend looks great!! Road trip, road trip, road trip..... Mike - My advice is if you need a break now, take it, but don't sell yet. Put the stuff on the shelf, and see how you feel in the spring. If you don't have the itch then, sell it. There isn't going to be anything new out from either Losi or AE between now and then that will make your stuff worth any less if you sell it then rather than now. If you do get the itch agin, and you've sold your program, it'll be much harder to get back in. Take it from someone who's made the mistake before. eviltone 08-10-2004, 11:55 PM Since we're not running this coming Sunday, and since the Barn crew is all heading up to RC Madness, Wayne, Chris and I are going on a road trip to Marshalls to race offroad on Sunday...anyone from DR wanna go?
