Yeah, the BMI TC3 chassis conversion is *sweet*. We have a lot of guys on our team running that particular chassis. The milling is second to none and it makes the car a bit more agressive (better initial turn-in, etc.) Actually, John Tag runs one as well and the car is really sharp. John, you wanna comment on the chassis? -jon nicwald 07-20-2004, 10:05 AM Hey, Nick. Yeah, the BMI TC3 chassis conversion is *sweet*. I was thinking of picking one up, I want to make some of those ORL races next year, and I wouldn't mind trying the chassis out indoors at DR. I thought John was running a warpspeed, or did he recently convert? Nick jdwca 07-20-2004, 10:12 AM Did you get one Jon? I was thinking of picking one up, I want to make some of those ORL races next year, and I wouldn't mind trying the chassis out indoors at DR. I thought John was running a warpspeed, or did he recently convert? Nick I didn't pick one up yet. I've had really good success with my tub so far :-). BUT, I will definitely be considering it because I plan on buying a car to run mod (one car for stock, one for mod). I would *definitely* suggest picking up that chassis. John just picked up the BMI chassis/car. I think he has one of each. He picked up both off of EBay if I'm not mistaken. RE: running the ORL series--that sounds great! You should definitely come down next year. Great competition and the tracks are a lot of fun. -jon nicwald 07-20-2004, 10:16 AM I didn't pick one up yet. I haven't talked to him in a while, and was curious how he is repopulating his fleet. Nick jdwca 07-20-2004, 11:05 AM Has John Marcotte picked up another touring car yet? I haven't talked to him in a while, and was curious how he is repopulating his fleet. Nick Yes. John picked up a TC3 with some other goodies: ceramic bearings, LRP QC2, a new radio, etc. He's supposed to have it ready for the Jackson touring car regionals on August 15. -jon eviltone 07-20-2004, 11:08 AM Hey, Nick. John, you wanna comment on the chassis? -jon That Chassis is pretty damn sweet... what about the IRS Graphite chassis? anyone use that one yet?? when i bought my TC3, the guy asked me if i wanted the IRS chassis for 100 bux, but i figured, why bother, it was only DR indoors. but now, i'm thinkin about it more and more.... -Tone nicwald 07-20-2004, 11:09 AM Yes. John picked up a TC3 with some other goodies: ceramic bearings, LRP QC2, a new radio, etc. He's supposed to have it ready for the Jackson touring car regionals on August 15. -jonFrom what I've heard of ceremic bearings, they tend to be very brittle, very smooth, but have the tendency to shatter on a hard impact, I've been wondering if it is worth the trade off in durability for performance. Is the racing in the ORL clean enough to not have to worry about getting "hacked?" edit: Sounds like he'll have a good setup, I don't know if he's run a TC3 before, I think he has, but if not, make sure you tell him about making the drivetrain smooth and free. Nick craftmastaschiz 07-20-2004, 12:50 PM craig, dont tell me you are gonna miss even more racing? yea i have to cause i have to work how do u think i afford everything i want everything i have bought so much stuff for my cars ever since i got a job but i made sure that i took off dirtrunners challange now all i need is a commlathe, xxx4, and xxxs jdwca 07-20-2004, 01:24 PM From what I've heard of ceremic bearings, they tend to be very brittle, very smooth, but have the tendency to shatter on a hard impact, I've been wondering if it is worth the trade off in durability for performance. NickYeah, John's been given the low-down on all the little tricks of the trade. :-) Yup. That is all true. The ceramic bearings are pretty fragile. Most guys are running them though because they offer the highest performance. Compared to local racing, the ORL series has very high driver quality, but having said that I got taken out in the last A-main by a T driver. It's like running in a small Nats field. I've been following Portland and really, they had maybe a few more big names in stock (Alex Lopez) and down to the E main. The last ORL had down to a full D main--40 guys in stock alone. It was great racing. Basically, you need to go as *fast* as you possibly can. Tag and I are running all team/factory stuff (batteries (ours), motors (3 different companies), slammed setups) and just making the A at the past three events. To make the jump to winning the A is going to take a little more practice and a touch more motor experimentation. All in all though, the bearings are worth it--they're like butter. -jon nicwald 07-20-2004, 02:24 PM Yeah, John's been given the low-down on all the little tricks of the trade. :-) Yup. I think you guys will get there eventually, let me know if you guys need a hand with anything, my stock motors are usually pretty decent...and I do have a dyno if you guys want to play around, you're more than welcome to borrow it (a fantom). Just let me know and I can get it to you, it's just collecting dust now. What motors you guys running? Does ORL have handouts, or is it any legal roar motor? "Butta" is always nice to have! Nick nicwald 07-20-2004, 02:56 PM I thought we bickered, but after reading the posts from the 2004 paved nats on rctech we are downright well behaved! You can't even imagine what these guys do on the drivers' stands and stuff. Talk about primadonnas. That said, it's still a lot of fun. It also makes you grateful for your local track where it's more relaxed and laid-back. -jon craftmastaschiz 07-20-2004, 03:10 PM o wayne dont bother sighning me up i cant race but jon i will be there for like a half hour to buy the battery packs and tone i will be there to get the gt7 jdwca 07-20-2004, 03:12 PM o wayne dont bother sighning me up i cant race but jon i will be there for like a half hour to buy the battery packs and tone i will be there to get the gt7 Okay, no problem, Craig. Right Mike? :D  ), I would make the time! I'm looking forward to the ORL races, even If I don't start going till next year. There was the fart heard round the world in the AM saturday morning. Then there was the fart smelt, or better 'felt' round the world that someone (Nick) cleared out a nice 2 tent radius from us:eek: . He was sitting in the middle with a grin on his face, while saying whered everyone go? Then there is the time that Nick almost got into a fight at Marshalls because he was too fast. Now that I think about it, I think nick is trying to kill me at races. Mike dmitry88 07-20-2004, 03:32 PM anyone own a clodbuster here nicwald 07-20-2004, 03:45 PM Hmmm. Vineland. Nick wayneny 07-20-2004, 04:47 PM Howdy all. Just wanted to remind everyone of you electric racers that the second round of qualifiers will be the same length as the first. We will give it a try and see how it goes. Also, remember that sign up closes at 10:15. We won't be able to add anyone after that. It takes way to much time to sort everything out when you have to add more names. If need be let someone else know and I will put you in and you can pay when you get there. Will see all on Sunday morning..........WAYNE-OUT  jdwca 07-20-2004, 04:53 PM I haven't even met John Tag yet, is he going to run indoors with us? Nick I don't think so. We plan on running at DC UltraTrax in PA and South Shore Hobbies in LI in the winter when we're not running at larger events. Right now, we're getting the whole Surge team situated and prepared to run at Cleveland. We've got a team of about 20 guys from around the country, so I'm gonna have my hands full as the team manager. :-) That being said, we're definitely going to stop by and hang out--check out the oval racing up there. I bet it's going to be *really* good this year. BTW, John's coming up this Sunday to run his Academy 4WD. Are you gonna be there? -jon nicwald 07-20-2004, 05:01 PM I don't think so. I think Bob Williams used to go to that race years ago, and I don't think its changed much in how its run. You are definitely going to have your hands full with all of those people! I won't be there this weekend, I'm going to be down here in Md. I know Galo, John Keys, and Mark Stern usually have their 4wd's with them, in case anyone else shows. Hopefully a couple more than that show up. Yeah, Ron Arichi (Bob's friend with the cowboy hat) and a bunch of other guys used to go out there years ago. It's supposedly a really well run event. The Snowbirds didn't get great reviews this past year, but Cleveland always seems to get favorable ones. I won't be there this weekend, I'm going to be down here in Md.! Ah, that's too bad. We'll catch you another week. I know Galo, John Keys, and Mark Stern usually have their 4wd's with them, in case anyone else shows. Hopefully a couple more than that show up. I'll tell him to post over here again and generate some more interest before Sunday. It'd really stink for him to get up there, 130 entries, but no 4WDs. -jon nicwald 07-20-2004, 05:19 PM Jon, You guys might want to check out "The Track" down here in Maryland come winter time, they get a lot of fast guys, factory guys. The batteries are moved in and foward compared to the stock tc3 chassis out there. The craftmanship is a 10+. They retail for $119.00 for complete kit braces motor mount, stand offs ect. Besides the weight. I just got done building my second BMI today with good elec. Q2 ,Nov. rec and jr servo and it weights 46ozs. Thats light you can add weight where you need it at that weight. The first time I drove my first bmi car it wasnt even set up 100% and it still was a dream. Ceramic bearings are real smooth and power helpers I noticed they reall spun better and thats what you need for stock touring. 1 thing I would recomend is Warpspeed trans cases for the tc3 there only$35 for complete set to do entire car they are bored to have trans super free and the plastic holes for mounting shock tower and upper case are heli coiled. As for Sunday im also gona have to miss the family did a last min. 25th anv. party for family member and if I dont go ill be divorced. MixMastaMM 07-21-2004, 12:01 AM Kill you or get you killed?
