View Full Version : Dirt Runners Outdoor Season 2004
jdwca 06-26-2004, 11:57 AM > W, I spoke to Charlie and he said that you don't get there to the track till we are running already. Electric truck was early in the program. Now with 11:00AM starts he mentioned that you may not make the first heat, so we moved that class to the end of the round. Hope that helps you out.
Thanks, dude! I appreciate that.
Yeah, it's true. I'm in church on Sunday mornings, so I usually don't get out until pretty late. Moving the heat further back will help matters along nicely.

..with all the problems you always seem to have with speed controls, it's be cheaper for you if you ran nitro...;) JK
Gary
kybob 06-26-2004, 08:35 PM hallster i guess i will have to keep my wolverine unless i can get a 2wd kit and a winch for like 150 bucks total. Cuz i talked to that guy and he wants to trade but his is worth way more than mine so to be fair he said i need those 2 things

get a g12 or a new g-10, they are the only speed controls that can withstand our horrible luck with electonics.

jdwca 06-28-2004, 09:19 AM Hey, folks. Missed you guys down at Jackson this weekend.
Galo, John Tag (who runs for Surge and has run at Dirt Runners here and there over the years), Gary Huber, John Marcotte and I were in attendance. It was like home away from home with our guys down there. That in the midst of all the factory guys with attitudes, it was nice to have some Dirt Runners family down there.
The turnout was excellent for a race with only four classes (A,B,C,D in stock). Lot of out-of-state guys. Gary, Galo, John T. and I ran stock touring and Galo also ran mod touring. John Marcotte was our pit-dude. The racing in stock was extremely intense: most guys were factory drivers.
Gary and I were in the same qualifier heats. *Really*, *really* clean racing: Gary qualified 6th in the B, John qualified 6th in the A and I qualified 8th in the A finishing similarly in the main with Galo in the C. All of us were very pleased with our results first time out against the factory guys. Jeff Cuffs won our class: he's a top Trinity driver and won the Snowbirds this year in stock and TQ in 19T touring. Billy Spence from SMC finished second and Scooby Horton from XRay finished third.
Hey, Nick and Chuck: how did you guys do out in Cleveland?

wayneny 06-28-2004, 09:25 AM Tone, any time. I enjoy getting these things to run right more than running them. I can't believe how many people go to the track and never come to a race. There must have been 30 people there that I have never seen before. I mingle around and talk to everyone and try and get them to come on race day. But few ever do. Had a blast yesterday too. Will see you soon..........WAYNE

Good job guys!!! I wish I would have known the turn out would have been that light. I would have gone then. What kind of car did John M. get? TC3 or XXXS? How many classes total were there?
wayneny 06-28-2004, 01:08 PM To all, I checked the Unlimited forum to see how they did up at Barnstormers yesterday. The Critter gang did very well. They had a pretty low turn out. I'm surprised because it was advertised in RCCA. I think there were more people playing at the track than they had to race. By the track I mean Dirtrunners.
Glad to hear that the gang had a good time in Jackson. On the plus side you all ran well too. Good job!!!!!!
Tone, are you going to run your Maxx on the oval at the next race? Maybe you can run offroad and your brother can run oval. He was getting around pretty good.
Will talk to all later..........WAYNE
jdwca 06-28-2004, 01:20 PM Good job guys!!! I wish I would have known the turn out would have been that light. I would have gone then. What kind of car did John M. get? TC3 or XXXS? How many classes total were there?
Well, that's sorta a loaded question (or actually a loaded answer). He picked up a FT TC3. John's running for Surge now and most of the 15 guys we have on our team run TC3-based cars (Warpspeed Demons, etc.). So, it makes it easier come raceday if one of us is not running well as the others we can sorta put our heads together and come up with a setup that works.
Mike, you should've come down. It would've been cool to have your sense of humor around. You're heading up to Boston in the next week or so, right? Otherwise, I'd say that you should come down with us to the next ORL at Alpine Lounge in Vineland.
Yeah, the turnout was *just* right. Like I said, A, B, C, D for stock and A and B for Nitro, A for MiniCooper, A for Spec, A for Mod. We got out at like 6:30 PM or so. Beautiful day to boot. Galo, John M. and I all watched the Nitro A-Main from the dirt track drivers' stand. VERY COOL!

I will be leaving the 11th to head up to Btown. If races are on the saturdays I could swing it. Let me know when and where the next races are. I'll try to swing them. Oh BTW I'm thinking of getting a XXXS G+ just to see what its like.

Where on the 11th? If it is at RC Madness, it would seriously be on my way. I tried to look at the ORL site, but it seems a bit out of date. I will let you guys know what is going on up there. I think the local track closed so I'll have to find a new one.

Actually, 'bizarre' is a better way to describe the ORL website.
If you look down near the bottom of the page you'll see ORL2. That's the series we're running.
It's at Alpine Lounge which is near Exit 3 - Vineland on the NJTP. Unfortunately, it's really out of your way.
BTW, RC Madness is supposed to have some really great racing--you should definitely check the place out if you have the chance.

Hey Mikey - if you're interested in an XXX-G+ we should talk. Mine is gathering dust, I raced it all of twice at DR indoors...it's barely used, and meanwhile my nitro fleet keeps growing. Have some spares to go with it. Interested?
Remember...it was driven by a World Champion

Actually.... i think he may be the Maxx guy for a while..... i'm only running the Mini-T for now. he'll also prolly run mt T4 as well... (i'll give him lessons...) i hope he runs that Maxx on the oval. He looked really solid gettin that beast around the track! he definately needs to stay on the gas a little more around the turns, but that'll come with time and confidence! we'll just have to see what he wants to do! i did a little bit of yard work for my parents, so hopefully i'll get repaid in some parts for the Maxx.... i hate breaking stuff!
i think i need 2 sets of arms, titanium hinge pins, front bulkhead, antenna wire, glow plugs, brake disc and the shoes, a mini-t Ball Diff (heh gotta slip that in ther somewhere!) and a few spur gears. things like that.
then again.... neither myself nor my bro will be ther the 11th - its our sister's birthday.... we gots lots of time to fix it, altho i'd love to get it running again this weekend! besides, i've been fighting my computer equipment lately... goshdarned wireless router... POS!!!
thanks again Wayne!!!!!

nicwald 06-29-2004, 10:16 AM Hey, Nick and Chuck: how did you guys do out in Cleveland?
-jonWe've run better....
Nick
Charlie made the main in Group 10 and 4.5" and finished 7th in both (I think) (this was in Masters, out of 15 people). I on the other hand ran badly, I only made the main in GTP and ended up 7th...
Mark ran really well though, he made all 3 mains in Future Masters, and TQ'd in GTP, he wound up in 7/8th in all the classes, which is a great run for his first year at the Parma Race, there is some fierce competition out there!
Charlie and I also ran a class where you brought your own chassis and ran a handout motor, Charlie’s Motors were dud's, and he got hit real hard, and the chassis tweaked and the gear mesh went south (It was a Flexi-4 which don't like taking shots).
I got a good motor, and was running good enough to make the main (Not bad considering this class had 40 entries) but when I was building the car, I ran out or flux and thought I'd be ok without it, but I guess not, cause I lost the motor in the last rotation...Doh!
All in all it wasn't a terrible weekend, but we've become a little accustomed to running well, and we will have to just re-double our efforts for next year!
The track was real funky, take our grand stand (the blue track), mirror image it, take away the dog leg (straight into the doughnut) and then coming out of the bank split the 8 lanes into 2 sets of 4 with 4 lanes crossing over and 4 under each other, then crossing back after the first dead man, into the 2nd deadman becoming joined again....and then in the cross over throw in some esses....talk about funky!
Track was much easier to drive than it looked (assuming that you were running a good car).
Gary NJ 06-29-2004, 12:18 PM We've run better....

Nicwald - There is like nothing on the race on OWH, besides Chris Radisch winning the GT1 TRRS class, and a comment that Big Al won (two?)...so who did what?? Was this like a secret race? ;) G
Gary NJ 06-29-2004, 12:20 PM How much for the G+ and what would be included?
Mike - It's all the top, top shelf in the garage right now....I'll try and pull it all down tonite and see what I've got.
nicwald 06-29-2004, 12:40 PM Nicwald - There is like nothing on the race on OWH, besides Chris Radisch winning the GT1 TRRS class, and a comment that Big Al won (two?)...so who did what?? Was this like a secret race? ;) GLet see, I know how masters stacked up
Group 10
1 Big Al
2 Ken Williams
3 Chris Raddiash
4.5 FCR
1 Ken Williams
2 Chris Raddiash
3 Big Al
GTP
1 Big Al
2 Ken Williams
3 Chris Raddiash
In 40+
Jack Nickel won group 10 (by 4 laps!)
Don Bonnano won 4.5
Lou Pirro won GTP
In Future Masters
The same kid won all three classes (last name started with a W)
GT1 race was an awesome race
1 Chris Raddiash
2 Jodie Greene
3 Big Al
4 Paul Cicc.
5. Ron Hershman
6, 7, 8 were Jack Nickel, Kyle Kofield (sp?) and a future master (forgot his name)
Pauly and Hershman were separated by 2 sections.
So Chassis' were:
1 Cheetah 7
2 Parma F4
3 Parma F4
3 Parma F4
4 Parma F4
5 Cheetah 7
6, 7, 8 1 Mossetti, 1 F4 and 1 Cheetah 7 (Not sure on the cheetah 7 and F4)
I was going to run my Champion (it was so glued) but the champions were too heavy and I didn't have an aluminum pan with me, with the GT1 bodies, just about anything would handle, they were a bit under geared with the 8-28 required ratio but other than that, the cars were real fun to drive.
I think we should change nascar at zeppelin to GT1, the bodies look really cool, and the cars will be even more stuck with them (and I'm sure everyone is going to be running the cheetah 7 after they see mine run this Friday!
Nick

Perhaps...I ran my Cheetah 7 at Zepp last December, and they didn't storm the counter ordering them then...;)
It is obviously a very good chassis.
Hey - thanks for the detailed results! You should post 'em on OWH, after you went to the trouble of putting them here.

GaryGood Idea!
I really think the Cheetah 7 will be the chassis of choice once everyone sees how much lighter it is, mine handles almost as well as a champion, but was running atleast .2 faster at the Challenge cup, I think If I start racing it (when I race) everyone else will, when they see how much you can get with the weight reduction.

Zeppelin.
A Champion has 2 moving parts, and a cheetah 7 has 3 moving parts, I do not see a lot more moving parts there.....but I do not think that durability will be too bad, as long as you use a rear brace for the uprights the chassis should be strong enough.
