satrnfreak 05-24-2004, 05:30 PM Tone the charger is just too complicated and too much of a hassel to use. All it did yesterday was false peak anyways so iam just better off wit my duratrax intellipeak.
Hmmmmmm, what did i tell u????
kybob 05-24-2004, 05:33 PM Mike from now on i will listen. I figured since i'm pretty smart i could figure it out. but i guess i should just stick with the duratrax cuz it works very well for me.
The guy with the 400ex dont ask for a trade with him. i want to sell mine then pay off my dad then buy a quad i can beat on like a warrior or something that does'nt take much maintance
kybob 05-24-2004, 05:36 PM tone sent back the gt7 today cost me 63.50 total that was for all the shipping. is this friday the friday that novak is closed because they are closed every other friday
eviltone 05-24-2004, 05:39 PM My head hurts.......yah? from the sound of you yesterday, you got a mad case of wet rash on your ass too...

I didn't understand this -- are you saying you spent $63.50 to ship a speed control back to Novak???
kybob 05-24-2004, 05:41 PM no it was total even with the fee for the new gt7
eviltone 05-24-2004, 05:41 PM I didn't understand this -- are you saying you spent $63.50 to ship a speed control back to Novak???no.. including a new refurbished joint, shipping to and from novak... it was 64 bux..
-Tone
kybob 05-24-2004, 05:42 PM i also sent it back with 2 day shipping so i could have it for next weeks race
Gary NJ 05-24-2004, 05:47 PM Oh. OK.
BTW, I've been using a 969 Superbrain for a year now and it has worked very well for me (except for the power brick). If you want to give it another try I'd be glad to show you how to use it. You can ignore quite a few of the program settings which aren't needed. It seems to be a little confusing at first but once you get it down it's pretty straightforward, and with two output channels is very handy. Let me know.
kybob 05-24-2004, 05:49 PM I dont know whta was wrong with it i would charge my batteries on mikes millenium before and they would peak around 10.5v but then i was using the superbrain and they only get up to 9.4v and then stop.

Did you try charging them entirely on the superbrain, although unlikely, the voltages from the chargers may vary...but I don't know about 1.1 volts...It could also be that you have the peak detect value (if there is one) set incorrectly
Nick
sean cant drive 05-24-2004, 05:54 PM No Corvette... please.... i speak from experience...... dont lose your license....
-Tone
i know what you're sayin is true, but that corvette is sweet and for 2 grand i just can't pass it up. what i am considering though is not using it for like a year and instead just work on it and make it a little nicer. and in the meantime i will just buy my uncles junk sebring for 500 and use that.
eviltone 05-24-2004, 05:57 PM entirely off topic, but... anyone Ninie Inch Nails fans? i found a place that has the "Closer" video uncensored... you need quicktime, but its good.. i've never seen it until now...

What i did was i had set the mah on the charger to 1700(my batteries voltage) then i left the mv where it was because it automatically adjust supposovly then i put the amps up to 4.5 then hit start and the battery got up to 9.5 then stopped and i said all right taht what it chargered at. Then on race day 12hrs later i peaked my battery and it only went up to 9.7 when it normally goes to 10.3-10.6

try running it off of a good power supply next time. it looks like that box thing that came with it is junk like gary said. the first time i used my millenium i ran it using joe colavita's old junk power supply and the thing false peaked every 5 minutes. and then i got my power supply and it seems to charge pretty well. just bring it to the next race and try using my power supply and we will see what happens.
satrnfreak 05-24-2004, 06:03 PM Mike, i have real bad news for you.....
The carrier that was in your quad, is NOT a honda part. It uses different bearings than a Honda carrier. I went to the auto part store that we use and the guy measured the bearings and seals. They are some off-the-wall size that they don't carry and can only get Special Order. The bearings were $30 a piece and the seals were $15 each with shipping the total was gonna be $97. I can order anytime but i found this instead....

Is the mv setting per cell or per pack?
Nick
kybob 05-24-2004, 06:09 PM not sure if its per cell or pack but for nicd i jacked it up to 75mv and the voltage was less. then i put it at 45 and it got a little higher but not much.

Omg that really sucks for you mike.
Gary NJ 05-24-2004, 06:12 PM I agree with Nick (what??) that readings from one charger to another may not mean much. My 3300 packs peak around 9.0 - 9.2 on my 969. The voltage a pack peaks at has no relation to how it actually dumps as it runs. Do you have good punch from the pack? Does it make time? Properly storing, discharging and equalizing the pack is key to maintaining and getting good performance with NiMH packs. Off course, at our track, with short 4 minute heats, low traction and mod motors you can easily overpower the track and still make run time. You could make runtime at our track with any old crappy batteries and a motor hot enough to be too hot for the traction we have, unless you're a pro like Ciallella or Kucharski :p . I personally wouldn't worry much about good batts and chargers on out track, until we go indoors and race on the carpet.....
kybob 05-24-2004, 06:16 PM i did notice a difference in my batteries performance though i noticed that in my 1700's i did not have as much power as i usually do with them. I take very good care of them i dischare them properly and then charge them properly.
Gary NJ 05-24-2004, 06:21 PM It has a Mah setting? sounds like you battery may have more capacity then 1700 mah (milliamp Hours, for reference)....I haven't use that charger before, but id mv is the peak detect setting, try playing with that, for NiCd's you need a higher peak detect then for NiMh cells, and if the charger thinks you are using NiMh cells, you're going to peak at a lower voltage. Nick, you can force it to charge either a set amount of mah, or a set length of time, but the default charge mode is peak detct, and it has an adjustable peak detect setting in 5mv increments. It selects the defaulkt value of 5mv per cell, but you can use any value on any pack from 5mv to something high (60 mv ?, I never actually saw how high it goes). I use 20mv for everything except the final peak on my 3300s ,and then I use 30mv. For $100, it can charge my gas rcvr packs, my miniT packs, my 3300s and my 8 cell AA packs in the radio -- and do it on two seperate channels simultaneously. I bought a small 12V, 13 amp power supply for $18 bucks, and the whole thing fits in a small box when I go to the track. It ain't a Turbomatcher, but then again Ciallella/Kucharski arent exactly like racing against Kinwald, either... ;)

In that case, it sounds like he's charging his pack to 1700mah, and then the charger is shutting off, maybe all he needs to do is charge with the regular peak detect charge.

kybob 05-24-2004, 06:27 PM In the manual that i was looking at for it it just said to plug it in and hit start

Hey Gary, Mr. Nicwald himself got me hooked on the Turbo 30. It is one sweet charger though. ;)

MixMastaMM 05-24-2004, 07:33 PM So what do you guys think i should do sell ythe superbrain or keep it
I would say let Mr. World Champ Gary K. have a look at it. I'm sure he can help you out and show you a few tricks with it.
Gary NJ 05-24-2004, 08:23 PM Don't get me wrong , the CE stuff is very good, just very expensive. For our level of racing you could do just as well with a CE PitBull, a string of light bulbs with an auto cutoff, and a cell equalizer board. Tekin chargers were always very good - hope the new Tekin is still as good. Don't have an opinion on Integy. Personally, my 10 year old Victor is still technically on the bleeding edge. I don't have new software on it so when I got back in to RC I had to figure out how to trick the charger to do NiMH correctly, but that charger was a complete system. People get more for them today on Ebay than they cost new.
As to your Superbrain, it sounds like it is working correctly. Unless you need to a charger to do something it can't do, for exanmple, charge greater than 4.5 amps, I'd keep it. Again, I thought the power supply was the only weak link - mine kept shutting off when it got warm, because it has no fan and minimal cooling slots, but the charger itself is good. See me at the next race if you have questions about using it.

Definately taught mine some tricks. Got the power supply to roll over and play dead......
kybob 05-24-2004, 08:28 PM Gary,
I think i will come and see you next race unless i figure everything out on my own.
Gary NJ 05-24-2004, 08:29 PM here is a link to a guy on ebay who's selling great 12v, 13 amp power supplies. small and light, i love mine. price was $19 (not $18) plus shipping. just add a power cord and you're good to go.

Gary NJ 05-24-2004, 11:14 PM I happened to give new guy Rob Gross a hand in the B Main of TMaxx yesterday. He didn't have anyone to pit him and I just happened to be wandering by as he was trying to get his Maxx running and checked thru and get up on the stand. Well, I stuck around to watch his race after he got going. He avoided all the first lap crashing, patiently ran in 2nd until lap 3 when the leader bobbled, and then moved by with a clean pass into the lead. He paced himself once he was in front and obviously put all his effort into driving cleanly and keeping off the pipes. His truck was not fast, not in great tune, basically stock and he got everything out of it that it had. Great race for a new racer this year.
Oh yeah - when I looked at the results today, Rob would have won the TMaxx A Main with his run. As I said, props to the new guy!

wow... i didnt even get to see that race... i musta missed a gem... congrats to him! hey gary.. do you know anything about how the tmaxx operates? i'm having the issue where if i get to 3/4 a tank left, the pressure from the pipe line is coming in SOOOO STRONG that it creates a bajillion airbubbles and the car gets hardly any fuel and stalls out... i am going to try putting o-rings on the tank feet to cushon the tank from jostling... but that seems to be my flame-out issue... any thoughts???
