19t motors- laydown/standup brushes, lock/adjustable timing, roar/arcor rules, drilled/epoxy balance, this is getting too confusing to be running the toy car in circles :p

I am running stock...

The Ultra-Bird is not approved by Arcor though. Can I run this tomorrow if I come?
YES.... I'll be running one also.

YOU GUYS ARE CONFUSING YOURSELFS.

Mike you can run the ultra bird if you want and so can't anybody else.

ROAR RULES are actually pretty simple

You can not change the brush configuration.

when they say any brush type that means this you can run
a C2 with laydown brushes
a D5 19t with stand up brushes
a P94 19t with p 94 brushes
a reedy Ti with stand up brushes

do you get it now.
question so can I run a c2
answer is yes

question can I put P94 hoods on a D5
answer No you can not

I think that we should follow the roar rules because they are pretty simple. plus the fact that if you follow arcor rules then all the guys with C2 are up shats creek without a paddle.

another thing to look at here guys is no matter what the rules are the fast guys are still going to be fast and the slow will still be slow:)

I agree..... Just add ultabird stand-up brushes and I think you have about covered them all.

Instead of fusing over motors, everyone better be tuning up them hotrods. Should be one h#$@ of a show in 19t. I'll be ready. Hope you are.....

HEY, Just a reminder... Back when Cliff and Andy came down from macon. He was running a Bulit TI Arcor motor and he only turned 33 laps, and didn't break into the six's all night. We were running C-2's, So do I think the times are going to be faster with the arcor motors? Maybe.... In a good handling car, In a not so good handling car times will be the same as the C-2.

listen eugene you could take five guys give them all the same stuff. for example

all this stuff is new and un opened

a L4

a novak gt7

futaba 3pk hrs

futaba digital servo

smc 1.180 4 cell pack

a ultra bird motor with putnam x brushes and purple springs

3 trc purples and 1 red rf

protofrom body

thunder wing with dark side mounts

now with the five drivers all having the same stuff they should be equal right? everybody will run the same speeds right?

no there are to things that are not the same 1 is the driver and the second is how all this stuff listed above is assembled.

i have been racing a long time and see people spend a shat load of money buying the best of everything only to be 2 laps off the guys the fast guy with ok stuff.

alot of people think that if you make rules it will slow the fast guys down well I am here to tell all it won't not one bit.

you want some encouragement stay up till 1:00 am three nights a week getting that frontend and t plate silky smooth and you'll goo faster.

all kidding aside if mike makes it up..some of you guys need to ask him some questions about your own cars..he is the best wrench there is..he runs a associated (box stock) right dave? lol weather looks good..i cant wait....back to wrenching...

To add another example to Dave P's response on "equality in racing",when we ran the Street Spec cars w/the "traditional" rules a couple of years back, everyone had the same junky chassis, batts motors, tires. Everyone ran the same car, like P's example. The only thing different was the choice of radio and the speedo had to be under a certain cost (no Keyences or Quantums!),thus the speedos used then isn't anything some of us wouldn't dare run in our cars these days. (some of us then ran a Streak-I have one w/me as a spare) Another thing that was different was what the individual driver did to his car in the pits. Some did a lot, some didn't. Anyways, there were a few guys that were fast & could almost be counted on to be up-front every race. And there were the guys that were either hot or cold (me!) every race.
The comment that Dave P said back a few posts about the "fast guys are gonna be fast" is just about true, even in Spec. One way to find out what makes these guys fast is to see (and ask) what these guys are doing to their sled in between races. What are they checking for? How are they correcting for a certain handling condition? No easy answers here, but a lot of the fast guys will tell/show you if you ask!

I'm in the middle of putting my new front end on and moving my esc and rx. onto the X-LRW tray. I'll be running my C2's until its obvious they suck... Thanks for clearing up my question on the ARCOR rules. When we decided to go ARCOR, I thought we were strictly abiding by their rules which obviously would have excluded the three C2's I just bought... doooh!

I do agree with Dave P somewhat on the "fast guys still gonna be fast" statement, but that doesn't stop anyone from getting faster in the long run. One thing I can say for sure that will make you faster are LAPS.

Looks like a fun time tomorrow night. Gonna have to bring the camera out to videotape the Mains. I smell a fish fry, unless he cheats, dave p will be teching the 19t mains ;) ;)

Jerry, no offence taken, my car was junk. The motors were real good the batteries not too bad either but the car would just park in the turns. If I ran down there a good bit and was able to come up with a good set up I would say the hand wounds would beat the machine wounds every time. They will here on the concrete. It seems that the machine wounds motors fall off quicker....

I sure thought some of you foam tire fokers would have come up for some concrete action this weekend, 19t is going to be a barn burner for sure. Are y'all racing the friday before the 5th?

Hmmmm? It's now only a few hours away from the first "Drivers, less than five" and the tension mounts, Who will tq and who will win legends? Pro-spec? Stock? and 19t? My fingers are already twitching. I dont think there's ever been a point series warm up at hw with this much buildup. There may never be again but it sure has been fun.

In this one race if everyone shows up we will have a past Lake whiphorwill oval masters champion, The winner and runner up of one of the classes at the speedway spectacular this year, The winners of two of the classes from Race rock this year, A past Florida dirt oval champion maybe two. And several of the plain out best oval racers in the nation all for a nothing to gain but bragging rights local friday night race. R/C racing you gotta love it.

Be there or hear about it here.

RC racing tip #1. If you are about to get lapped a 2nd time in the main and the leader is right on your bumper and tring to get by without wrecking both of you and 2nd place is only 3 sec. back show a little class and give the leader the bottom ,or the top lane. Try not to take up both as you go through the turn and end up taking the leader out:mad:

RC racing tip #2. Same as #1 but in the Qualifier

However the guys that came up from RPM (and other places) showed alot of speed and class out there hope to see ya'll again. It was a blast watching 19 turn class 4-sure. :)

Whew what a night! Kudo's got out to Dave Keller at hw for finally getting the new lights up. It's a shame they didnt make it through the first qualifier though.

It was as most of us expected with all the strangers showing up. New track record in 19t by the afforementioned Mr. Boylan but it wasnt the "blow it out of the water run" that we had all expected. Not to take anything away from Mikes run but maybe just maybe the regulars are getting around the big track better than we all thought. The track allthough dirtier than in the past even after a pretty good blowing off was still very fast and for the most part racing was real clean.

I appologized for taking Ronny Hames(morning Ronny)to the outside wall hard in the main after I clipped the inside pipe in turn two and I suspect he realizes it was unintentional. With the speeds we are running now there is no way to catch a car that quick when we were litterally inches apart. If the pipe had't of been out of place that would've been just another typical close proximity pass that seems so common place lately at hw.

Stock has turned out to be a self sustaining class also and I'm glad to see it. Some were worried that after the last series and several racers moving into another class that the car counts would drop. Nope! There seems to be just as many cars as before and maybe more getting ready.

Several of the spec drivers were a no show but I suspect next friday they'll all be back with the exception of the couple of drivers who moved on to 19t also.

Man! I wish I could recall all the names of everyone who raced lastnight because for the most part everyone got along and smiles were everywhere. With no pressure on anyone to impress a sponsor or win the big one it made for a late but fun night for me as I hope it was for everyone else.

Oh yeah, Points starts next week. Hmmm now theres some pressure.

Also the much ballyhoo'ed and anticipated running of the newer(to hw racers)19t motors came and went lastnight with out a hitch. It was a seamless transition and I for one ran my personal best and qualified for the "A" main with a 5 month old C2 bought right out of the store. Once again much to do about nothing.

Let's race!

David Butts

I'm skeered shizzleless.

1. I predict the 19t record falls friday night. I also predict it wont be me breaking it. I predict on one of those two I'm right.

2. This could indeed turn out to be the biggest smalltime oval race in north Fl. history.

3. Now I just need to make the "A" main. A high 35 lapper may not do it and that would deffinately be a first at hw.

4. Could it be a race rock(tm) rematch on a big track? Somebody may clear the chainlink.--------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Hmm? New track record in 19t set By Mike and not me. Right on all three accounts.

2. It was big! We had more entries a couple of months ago but we had guys running faster times this time.

3. I made the "A" and only the 9th and 10th qualifiers were very fast 34's

4. Well no one made it over the chainlink in the turns but Ronny Hames flew high enough over the back straight wall to qualify as a fly by as per FAA rules. Sorry Ronny I just could'nt resist that. You got a pilots license for that thing?

David Butts
05-29-2004, 05:15 PM
Is this thing on? Wow! It's been unusually quiet on here today. Must be because everyone is doing the holiday weekend thing. ????

Me? Hmmm? I just got back from a ride with the dog in the buick to the store(I cant afford to drive it much farther than the corner store and back)for some liquid refreshments, 12 of'em in a pack. Uh well now there's only eleven and soon to be ten and so on and so on.:freak:

Who'll be the first for predictions on next fridays point series start? Uh, Me!

Legends--- Steve Short TQ's but breaks and Katelyn Kent takes her first win.

Pro-spec-- Stoney Mullins all the way but Stephen Pedano makes it close.

Stock-----Hmm? Shannon Stevenson Tq's but avenging last nights race, Chris Garland runs smooth for the win with Michael Short in third and Eugene Godwin just barely missing out for fourth. This main will have "the big one" That breaks two cars in half on the back straight. One of them has a pink wing on the back. Three people sell all their stuff for pennies on the dollar and say they'll never come back.

19t------Oh noooo! John Hart finds he has been running a bad speed control for several months and after replacing it he Tq's and wins the "A" main Breaking Mike Boylans record by .025 seconds. Phil Owen is 2nd and Jerry Parrott is 3rd. I give up and sell all my stuff to Dave Puliafico for $26.18 and go off to missionary school in Cambodia.

Touring--Hey hoser this is the oval thread! What? You think I have a crystal ball or something?:jest:

Oops! now theres only 9 left.

Jeremy- At least you won B-main! Congrats, dude! Leaving the extra raceday baggage at home did wonders for your racing, didn't it? lol

As for Butts'(tm) predictions, here's mine for the next Friday night:
Legends- I'll agree w/ Dave on that one
Pro-Spec- ditto
4-cell stock- I pick Shannon Stevenson,Chris Garland & Michael Short to place. (oops! This isn't dog racing! lol) Very close battle between Shannon & Chris all night.
4-cell 19 turn- Very tough decision. Depends who's racing the whole series! I'll start 5th,finish 6th in mains. Tom will finish 3rd in mains. Pilgrim finishes 7th after trying to take out Hart in turn 4! lol Jeremy will have another strong night!

BTW,thanks to the "Team Daytona/Central FL" gang & the GA Boys for coming out to play w/us! As I've mentioned a few posts ago,I would be cool to see this "meeting" turn into a yearly Memorial Day weekend event & maybe donate portion of the entry fees to charity. Maybe a Saturday race w/ 4 quals & mains with bump-ups to A-main for B-Main winners? Hmmmm, our own Coca-Cola 600,HW style?
Also thanks to Billy Bruce for coming over & showing me a front-end tip. I'll try that this week! I've already got the stuff.

Well I just got the pdf from George of friday nights 19t "A" main. One word describes it, WOW! Everyone knows by now(thanks to hobby talk)that Mike Boylan won it but nooooo thats not the whole story, Not at all. I would bet it is safe to say that that one race qualifies as the fastest race ever(finishing order nonwithstanding)run at hobby world.

Man a novel could be written about this race. So I'll do it.

1. We now have a new fastest lap during legal competition set by Billy Bruce on lap #3 of a 6.5 at 38.559 mph.

2. The whole field of ten cars ran sub 7 second laps which has never happened before to my knowledge. The slowest(if you can call them slow)of which were the 6.8's by Jerry Parrott, Dave Puliafico and Tom Marlowe. 6.7's by Myself, Phillip Owen, Bear Yarbrough and Ronnie Hames. 6.6's by Tom Pedano and Mike Boylan. And of course the aforementioned 6.5 by Billy Bruce. That means that the average fastest lap turned by the entire field of 10 cars was an outstandingly low 6.69 at 37.464 mph. Yikes!

3. The only stat that doesnt look super fast is if you take out all the cars that pulled off and average everyone else times you get 34 laps in 4:01.836. Hmmm? There are alot of people racing at hw in 19t that have never run that number before.

4. If you look at the cars that pulled for one reason or another they could've been and have have been "A" main winners both at hw and other venues around the area. Lets see, Jerry Parrott, Bear Yarbrough, Ronnie Hames and Dave Puliafico.

5. The visitors overcame one obstacle that the regulars have had almost exclusively since the resumation of oval racing at hw. The dreaded black hole going into the 3rd turn. Allthough everyone had light up until about halfway through the first round it was dark the rest of the night. The regulars are used to it and the other guys made do with the light available just fine. Now you guys know why there arent more black or dark color cars in the pits at hw.

6. I had a blast and I hope now more guys from here will be willing to visit other tracks. As of late we have had many people make the drive to run with us. It's only fair to hit RPM, Echeeconnee, Branford, Stricklands(ormond beach) and the Tampa track once the deal gets done. With the apparent sucess of Kat1sh's FOCARS series which for now is all indoor maybe next year some outdoor tracks can make the schedule.

1.Mike Boylan 35 4:01.32
2.Billy Bruce 35 4:02.60

David is right on about our visitors from other tracks. This Saturday gives HW regulars a chance to race outside of Jacksonville. Bradford is going "under the lights". Who all is going? Pro-spec guys made the trip a few months ago will the others follow. I plan on going and running the nastruck class. BTW, there is also a novice class so bring the kids.
