We'll have to see if santa brings me any new caps.(doubtful) Last time I was there I found out my old ones just were'nt gonna cut it any longer. As y'all know, Unlike foams which can almost be run to the rim, Caps wear out as far as the grip is concerned.

A bit off the subject.....my very first taste of oval was at this track back in 2001. Before getting a pan car , I became friends with fast guy from the area . We tested the day before the "big" race. I ran 19t and held my own... as far as not spinning out..and getting out of the way cleanly when a fast guy came up on me. There where only about 8 or 9 guys in 19t...but the names included the likes of Anrie Fie, Phil Marabella, and George Verbonitz(sp) . That is TRINITY country up there.....I guese it's CW country as well. lol. Any who it is a fun track on a river. About 5 minutes from it is a full scale Dirt Oval that the Outlaws run on "Williams Grove" ? it's in Mechanicsburg PA

We just want to thank everyone for a great race year. It means alot to me to be able to spend time with my son doing something we enjoy. If I could just get my other son to move to Jax. I would be in seventh heaven. We really enjoy everyones company (even Chris G.) and not to mention the racing. We are looking forward to even a better year and hope all goes well. We wish everyone Happy Hollidays, Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year. See ya'll on Jan. 8th.

Merry Christmas to all. You guys have made this a very enjoyable "come" back year for me plus I had the chance to race against my son Aren. We will be back for more racing plus more of the out of town/series racing. Hope you all take this time of the year to think about what we all have here: our freedom, to voice our opinions, to come together for a cause and realize how soon it can change. We were very fortunate with the hurricane season, while soom are still recovering. Think about our troops as they are always in harms way to protect us.

Next year will soon come and hopefully be a spectacular year. Hopefully Katf1sh gets us a FOCAR race at HW. Someone represents Jacksonville in the FL/GA concrete series (Echeconnee/Branford tracks). A couple of Jacksonville racer do well at the Snowbirds in February. And finally any Florida racer wins the 2005 On-road Nationals @ Speedline in October. Hopefully me LOL

See you all at the track

If anyone at all get's it, That this hobby is supposed to be fun It's Steve, The night his dad was here you could see it in their eyes just how much it meant to all of them including Michael to be spending time together doing something they apparently all enjoy. How many families in this day and time spend any time at all with each other? There are several father's and son's showing up at the track and even one father and daughter. Just think? Someday you could get you're arse handed to ya on the track by a girl! I did at the Snowbirds last february. Waaaaah!

Hopefully I'll have the oportunity to find out if my daughter is faster than me! We went to HW yesterday and both of the kids got out of the car and started walking towards the track instead the store. I said "where you goin?" they said "to see the cars" I said "there's cars inside" and they said "yeah, but they're not racing!" I swear those little ankle biters don't miss a thing! Happy Xmas and Merry New Year and and a God Bless to any celebrating other holidays. Now which present is the right size for an 1/8 scale buggy?

Meeeeeerry Christmas to all you R/C ers out there and Happy New Year! I hope Santa brings you all a new brushless system for Christmas! The new to r/c technology of brushless motors is the future of r/c racing butt(tm) I dont think it'll happen anytime soon as far as organized and sanctioned racing. There may in the near future be classes for them but they wont become the norm. For one thing there's way too much profit made by the suppliers on the brushes themselves and all the other support equipment that goes along with them such as lathes and dyno's.

Look at it this way, In nascar they still use a carburetor that's design has not changed substantially since it's introduction in 1954. More power and ease of tuning can be had with todays electronic fuel injection but it would take the engine tuner/carburetor specialist and immediately put him/her on the unemployment line. It's also harder to tech since any number of parameters can be set with a laptop that may not be legal and reset to a default setting with the touch of a button.

What the relates to in r/c racing is this. It takes a considerable amount of tuning and understanding of that tuning to keep a brushed motor running to it's potential. Barring a component failure a brushless motor will perform at the same level theoretically forever dependant of how much voltage is put to it.

On the tech side of the argument, A brushed motor can be disassembled to look at the internals, Namely the armature and magnets. If it's a stock motor in question the wire size and amount of winds looks totally different compared to a 19t or less turn modified arm. Brushless motors? Well their winds are in the stator that in most motors is totaly concealed or imbedded in epoxy, The armature it'self is basically just a blank slug made of a ferrous(magnetic)metal.

The brushless motors are manufactured to and rated at an rpm per volt of input value. The Novak 4300 is just that 4300 rpm at 1 volt dc input voltage. Thusly the 5800 is 5800 rpm per that same 1 volt dc input. Guess what? You and I can not tell those two apart if it were not for different packaging and or decals on the motors themselves. Want to be a tech person now? I'm sure there is equipment available to deviate between the different Kpv motors but that puts us right back at that afforementioned support equipment cost does'nt it? Now we're talking digital electronic almost military spec equipment.

Like I said, Brushless motors are the future for r/c racing it just wont happen overnight. When I started racing electric way back in 1979 we never would have guessed that there would be an invention called an electronic speed control. We all had two servo's on our little tiny 1/12th scale cars. One for steering and one for the wiper arm speed controls that everyone had. Now no one would even consider showing up to race with anything less than the latest whiz bang 10 million amp rated totlally digital almost automatic pilot'like just squeeze the trigger and let the auto start function get your car moving for you top dollar speed control that even in some cases talks to you. Just as the technology of batteries, Chargers, Chassis and almost every other aspect of racing has evolved so will the motors.

There may come a day when you just pluck down your lap top and punch in the figures your laser track dimension accumulator data acquisition system gives you and the computer will spit out numbers on which gear to run, Tires to use at what size, Which body to use and with what wing and at what setting, And even which colors and decals to use based on the light thats available at the track you're running at. Hell, Throw in an audible alarm that sounds off when you deviate from the optimum driving line. Sound like fun? Not to me. I like figuring out all that stuff all on my own. Thank you very much. But in time, Things change and some day all this stuff may be the norm and then a whole new crop of racers can sit back and tell stories of how things were, Back in the day. ???? Oh nooooo, You mean there's going to be another me? Arrrrggggghhhhh!

Did you see the $329 price tag on the sphere speed control alone? Oh my goodness! Yeah Ray brushless looks great and eventually it'll be the norm, I'm just not ready for it yet. I've still got 15 year old speedos. I guess I can use them for paper weights.??

Eugene, When you were running your brushless setup in the oval car did you ever time how long it would run in practice?

I never timed it. I stopped when I thought it was close to 4 minutes. I guess out of habit. The first time it was installed I did run two packs back to back and the motor was still cool. I'll have to try it one day this week.
