View Full Version : Hobby World-Jax,FL Official 2004 Thread (Ver 2.0)
rcgen 05-14-2004, 04:51 PM On the older HW thread there was discussion on how our sport/hobby atttract new racers or get the public to know about it. Several ideas were thrown out such getting a article written up in clay today, sports section in fl times union, hw letting their customers know about the track. Well that was that and I guess the discussion ended with no results. Well yeah 103rd st HW has a sign about sunday racing. I think I participated in the discussion notice I didn't say bashing ;) .
Here's an update of what I did. I emailed several local news media and some city officials. I received a reply from the city of jax (still on going and one day I'll share it w/you all) and today I received an email from Larry Ramirez, sports anchor for channel 4. He seemed more interested so I figured I'd let you all know about it. I informed him about our Friday night races, the classes the hours we race and yes I told him how late we finish. This seems to be very good start in attracting new/old racers to come out. Hey, we might have to start staying later if this kicks off.
I invited him to the track, but not sure if he'll get the mail before then. Oh btw, John I gave him your as our race director and he may be trying to contact you via HW phone number. Hope you don't mind.
On a side note: John is doing an outstanding job running the show and kudos go out to his side kicks: George, Tom, Pilgrim and on some occassions Dan.
I still say we don't need teching :jest:
Time to load the car and head to the track its 5:00 and I have to work early Saturday morning...don't you just love it
Fl Flash 05-14-2004, 11:34 PM Hey Gene,
You still planin on makin Branford this Sunday? Im headin over with my Nastruck for a lil fun. Do you remember what gear we ran over there last time? I wrote down everything but that in my notebook LOL!
Later Lee
irvan36mm 05-15-2004, 03:26 AM I would personally like to congratulate Shawn Leary for his last-minute points win in the Pro-Spec series. Even though I was "the man to beat" for the first 4-5 race nights,he finally got me on the last night with a TQ and a win. If he keeps up the strong work in the upcoming 19t series,he could be a serious contender! IMO,I think that Stoney's gonna be the new "man to beat" in Pro-Spec next series!
BTW,thanks Eugene for the kind words about the running of the show! Really,IMO,the true solution is to have someone that doesn't race to run the show for us. (This is in no way intended to put-down or complain about J. Hart's (or Tom's or J.Pilgrim's) handling of the races now. I am glad to be helping them out as much as I can!) That way,all of us currently involved can concentrate on working on our cars & our racing. It's been done before with great success & I would like to see that done again.
Keep us posted on your media project! Maybe,we could get them to send a camera crew out during the handing out of the awards (first night of next points series). One day,we'll all be on TV! lol

rcgen 05-15-2004, 06:39 AM Lee,
I am on military duty this weekend so Bradford is out. It's been awhile I can't remember the gearing, sorry. I do plan on going for the saturday night races maybe we'll rub Nastrucks fenders then :p
Oh, I am setting up my Nastruck for HW on a different chassis because I sold the chassis I used in
Bradford. It looks like I need to work on a lot more :drunk:
There seems to be growing interest in running a Nastruck class at HW.

shawnleary 05-15-2004, 01:48 PM Thanks George. Anything could have happened last night, a great series indeed. I hope to even be able to make the A-main in 19t this coming series. There is going to be a vacuum left behind in the other classes, I think that will be great for a lot of folks. There's nothing like getting a taste of a win or a TQ to fuel the addiction even more! 19t next series will be on fire, i'm predicting three Mains!
I've heard talk of a 4-cell 19t truck class at HW next series. The more the merrier.

David Butts 05-15-2004, 03:55 PM Congratulations to all the point series winners lastnight. This last series was the first points series for me in almost 14 years(the last being the florida dirt oval championships in 90/91 that I won, Heh heh heh) and it was fun and interesting at the same time. My pit buddy Dave P. wore my butts(tm) out the last half of the series in stock and to top it all off in the last race he 1. Tq's, 2. wins the main, 3. wins the points series, and last but not least, 4. breaks the long standing track record. and just barely misses a 33 lap run. Is that a four-fecta?
The spec points race was close and right down to the last race wasnt locked up and that made for good drama. And what? We now have a legends champ too?
Well as Shawn stated it looks as if the next series with all the new racers in 19t could really be big. Even Tom Pedano has returned from another semi-retirement and he's brought his brother Steve(pro-spec)back too.
With all the people moving to different classes it'll open up the field for some new faces being in the winners circle very soon and thats a good thing especially for some of the guys who feel that they have no chance of beating "the fast guys".
Yeah theres some smack talk tossed around and its apparent that some of the people dont get along too well if at all, but all in all hobby worlds track is a pretty fun place to race considering the local alternatives(none)and I'm glad to have a place to race at all.
The only real downside I see to all the new faces in 19t are that the speeds will be higher compared to the classes they are coming from and with that the hits will be harder and with the harder hits the anger increases exponentionally and there lies the probabillity that some people may forget that this stuff is all supposed to be for fun a relaxation and so on and so on.
With the added car counts its imperitave that there will be an "A" and "B" qualifier and the subsequent mains and as some people have already commented "the fast guys will still be the fast guys" so it'll all work out in the end. Lets just try to keep our collective cools and make the best of a fun situation.
Oh yeah I hear there's gonna be a Bear of a competitor in 19t next series too.
Hmm if memory serves me these guys will be running19t sofar.
Phil Owen, Jerry Parrott, Jeremy Kent, John Hart, John Pilgrim, George Ramos, Chris Randall, Dan McClinton, Dave Puliafico, Myself, Frank Pupello, Bear Yarbrough, Tom Marlowe, Shawn Leary, Jason Lambert, Joe Malin, Tom Pedano, Henry Snyder and several other occasional racers. Hmm looks like this'll be the largest class now. sorry if I left anyones name out but my memory isnt what it used to be and it used to be bad.
BryanW92 05-15-2004, 04:13 PM Congrats to all!!
Who's going to race Pro-Spec in the next series? I might have to put my L4 back together. I even have 3 brand-new Spec batteries that I bought 2 months ago and have never used.
shawnleary 05-15-2004, 05:10 PM Me George and Jason are stepping down to 19t, Stoney and Eugene have said they are going to keep running Pro-Spec.
rcgen 05-15-2004, 05:34 PM Me George and Jason are stepping down to 19t, Stoney and Eugene have said they are going to keep running Pro-Spec.
You tell them Shawn...You guys are stepping down from Pro-spec to 19t to teach/show the 19t regulars how to drive a line and not a demolition derby :jest: Can you imagine 8-10 cars in a qualifying heat and not this spliting the class to run 4-5 cars in a qualifying round. You guys show them and good luck. I am sure I will be joining you guys soon...
rcgen 05-15-2004, 05:51 PM Well...my son completed his first full night of legends racing. He really enjoyed the racing and was getting better each time except for the in(un)tentional hitting  He just needs more track time and with school coming to a close he will be able to get some.
Like I warned in a previous thread, he had never ran the car in a racing enviroment and I threw him in there cold turkey. I want to go ahead appologize to the legend guys/girl. He told me he really enjoyed it and wanted to learn to race better. I was really surprise when he occassionally made some 4.5, 5.3 lap times. So he also may be a factor in the next legends points series (fingers crossed)
For those who have kids that would like to race, the legends class is a very good entry level to start plus is doesn't hurt that the cars can take the abuse. Only down side is finding a used car or kit.
davepull 05-15-2004, 06:43 PM Hi Phil
It was a pleasure to race with the guys in the 4 cell stock class Butts Shannon Mike Steve Micheal. you guys make it fun I love to race with people i can trust. what a great time on the flip side current 19t drivers you better get ready take the next 2 weeks to get you shat in one shock because there are lot of cars coming from other classes that will be able to run low 34 high 35 lap runs the current low 33 and high 34 lap runs are going to put you in the B!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaa
shawnleary 05-15-2004, 07:32 PM the smack talkin is coming into full swing.
i'll definetly miss pro-spec. hopefully I can get my other maverick in operation and run a couple more pro-spec races.
rcgen 05-15-2004, 10:46 PM Shawn - Just checking the pics on the website (HW dirt days) looks cool and brings back memories...when I raced dirt back then...blackfoot, frogs, rc10 tubs...David Butts(tm) thanks for the pics and making feel old ;)
David Butts 05-15-2004, 10:57 PM the smack talkin is coming into full swing.
i'll definetly miss pro-spec. hopefully I can get my other maverick in operation and run a couple more pro-spec races.
Yep Shawn just as you feel about spec, I'll miss running with the other drivers in stock also and I havent said I'll not run any stock at all. We had some of the cleanest races in this whole last series and I hope 19t is close to as clean but only time will tell. I'm still going to run an occasional night of stock just for the heck of it. There's that little deal of a track record that just got taken away you know? he he he
One thing about stock is all the drivers and I mean all of them worked together and talked on the stand and even when we had the occasional visitor in the class we all worked as a unit towards clean racing. I've never heard so many polite drivers on a stand. It was almost icky with all the "I'm sorry's" and the "oops I didnt mean to do that's" or the occasional "Iwas trying to get out of your way". All racing should be that fun.
shawnleary 05-15-2004, 11:28 PM Ditto Dave! Its only a toy car right ;) The guys this past series were really cool in the respect area. I only hope <fingers crossed> that we can keep it going in 19t......
Shumacher 99 05-15-2004, 11:32 PM Well I'm glad to be running 4-cell stock. hopefully the Eugenes will run with me or it will be a small field. EVERYONE is in 19 turn!!! Oval is what I used to do back at the old arlington track years ago. After getting me a$$ handed to me in touring every week It will be good for me to get back to what I do best. TURN LEFT! !! Congrats to everyone in all classes it was a good series in all classes and really fun being at the track with everyone can't wait till fri. It's been a long 3 weeks to wait.

shawnleary 05-16-2004, 02:45 PM So you are going to use the new body? I'm going to switch back to HD (high-downforce) for 19t.
parrott88 05-16-2004, 04:04 PM Hey everyone.... Hate I missed the racing last Fri., But somethings latched on to me and want let go. I was going to macon today for a warm up race for the 500, but didn't make that either. Hopefully, I'll be back running in awhile.
Racerock is where I plan on racing next, But if i don't feel any better by then I might not make that either.
With everyone moving up to 19t. I plan on running stock for the next series. So everyone in stock get those hotrods ready. There will be an 88 car visiting soon.
Dave P. with a track record.... Not as long as I'm racing....LOL
WehnerRacer 05-16-2004, 05:12 PM Dave: thanks alot for all the help you have giving me since i am still a beginner. its hard to learn three classes all at the same time but i am learning. my oval car is very slow but ill get it there. i had have years under my belt to figure out how to get it facer but ill get there someday. It was nice racing with you too. i hope the guys in 19t give you a straight line like i tried to do....they should, its jsut the right thing to do.
to everyone else to oval stock......you all have been a big help and i hope the next points race brings you more excitment.
Legends: Now thats probably the funiest racing i have ever done...i have never laughted so hard in my life. even the little man racing like crazy was fun to have on the track...it makes it more interesting.
