hi! im a student at the university of akron and im looking at getting into racing. i have a T3 that i used to bash with with friends at the local baseball field in cleveland. i have some pretty decent electronics and i think i might like to race stock or mild modified. can you guys give me any tips on shock oil wt./springs, gearing, or tires? keep in mind that i know associted's sytem of colors and not losi's. im going to be going home this weekend and heading to the closest decent hobby shop (mentor! geez!) and im gonna pic up some stuff.

my gear is as follows (i picked some of this stuff up in preparation for the upcoming season):
AE T3 (mostly stock)
JR XR3i
Pro-Match 3300's
Millenium Pro
Novak GT7

i still need to replace my recently fried trinity x-star.

so please, any help on the shocks, tires, or gearing would be greatly appreciated.

one last thing... as i am a college student away from home, i dont have a car. if there is anyone coming from or passing through the downtown/university parts of akron and willing to pick up a passenger please let me know.

-mike

does anyone know what a good gearing for the track would be. i have a t3 wit a p2k2. also im thinking of getting a xxx or xxxt. which is a better class? (or are associated machines the way to go?)

Mames
03-17-2005, 12:31 AM
lets see a t3 with a p2k2 i think i was around 20/87 or 21/87, been about 2 years sense i ran one there. my monster is at 18/87 in my t4 and my sons t3 is 19/87.
there are a lot of losi's there, and there are amonug the fastest so i think i would be called a losi track. but i have seen some t4's do very well there.

Hello, I am very new to the whole R/C thing, I live in Akron and have recently bought a RC10 GT truck. Is this something I can show up and race? And if so is "stock" good enough to race with, and if not what do I need or should I do to get it ready to race (that is if you do race them there)?

Thanks,
Eric

I'm thinking of offering to "pit" for someone there at medina . Someone like me who has no one to help out and noone to pit for them.

I do have access to many electric chargers and experience with electric cars and trucks so I would prefer electric, but would help a nitro if needed. I would need "trained" haha

Do you think anyone is interested.?

Is electricity available yet? If so Is there poles down the side by the creek so we can plug into? So we do not need to bring 400 feet of extension cords.

Thanks

Estew09,
Welcome to the world of R/C. Your stock RC10 GT will be fine to start out racing with. Although I race electric, they do have a fairly large class of gas trucks at Medina. The first race (I think) is on Sat. April 30th, with the track opening at 2:00 pm and racing starting at 5:00pm. Bring a table, chair, small light for your table, & all your stuff. There will be plenty of fellow racers to help you out w/ any questions!
My name is Jason (I also live in Akron) & I race electric buggy class......don't hesitate to come find me if you need anything! Good Luck & Have Fun!!!!!!

Hey Mucho, thanks for offering the help. I will definately try to make the first race even if it is just to see how it all works. If I go I will look you up, what kind of buggy do you race so I know who to look for? Second, what is the "basic" survival gear for a first timer? Like I said I bought my truck about a month ago so I pretty much have my truck and fuel. ANY help would be appreciated... like what kind of spare parts are the most needed, will stock tires be ok, you know all the stuff a true newbie needs to know.

estew09,
No problem. I race a Losi buggy (pearl white w/ blue flames). I usually pit towards the far side of the parking lot (away from the track) with 3 or 4 other guys.

As for basic survival gear, I'm assuming your truck has a pull start engine. If not, make sure you bring a starter box (or whatever you use to start with) & plenty of fuel (so that you can get several practice runs in). Make sure you have fresh batteried in your radio. Probably the most broken spare parts are suspension arms (front & rear), & hub carriers/steering knuckles (front & rear). Try to have at least 1 extra set of each if possible. If your truck has the stock steel tie rods, bring a couple extra if you can, just in case. Later on you may want to purchase titanium ones (if you decide to race often), as they are much stronger.

As for tires, your stock ones will probably be O.K. for your first time out, but take a look at what the fast guys in your class are running. Typically there is usually only 1 or 2 tire types that work well. Also, don't forget your tools (at least the basic ones: wrenches, allen wrenches, screwdrivers, etc. to fit all the nuts/bolts on your truck in case you need to make an adjustment or replace a part.

That should get you started! Look me up if you need anything!

Thanks,

Can someone post a map or directions to the track?

Personal transponders used?

Any other helpful info would be great.

I can give you directions. From sandusky you would take 250 to 18 and keep going East. 18 into Medina to 42 north. go north to the BP station (regan parkway) turn right (east) and you go down there less than a mile to regan park (on the right). I think it is at the speed limit sign. It is kinda up hill drive way.there wasn't much of a sign. Drive back into the park, at the y vear right and you will see the track way back in there.

Thanks.....

I just have to figure what I want to run.

I know trucks are a big draw but I started way back in the early 90's running buggy and if there are enough of the class I might run one of those - electric for me.

Will there be power for us or use the old car battery for juice?

I've only been ther 2 or 3 times, last year and the year b-4 they ran 1/8 buggies, stock and mod electric truck, nitro truck and electric buggies too. Last year they had 2 classes of monster trucks as well.

Maybe someone from the shop or track will list a classes and rules list. thanks

There are plenty of electrics buggys. We had turnouts from 6 to 15 plus each week. Also, personal transponders are accepted.

What basic set-ups are you guys using on stock truck for losi or associated.

Like to get a starting point and go from there.

Medina have decent prices on T4's and MF2 XXT?

Might run up Saturday and spend a little $$$$ at the shop if they have good prices. Just need a truck and tires/etc - have all the running gear ready to go.

Thanks!

Chuck! My Hero!

Good to hear from you! Are you going to race at Medina?!?!? Sweeeet!
I don't run a T4, but I'll try & get back to you w/ a starting set-up. Most guys there run stock, but since stock truck is more boring than watching concrete harden (j/k :p ), hopefully there will be a bigger mod class this year. I'm sure a few other guys snooping in on this thread can offer advice too. Fellas? Help a brutha out!

I still need to get you a stack of those "Chuck's Cafe" coffe cups. I'll see what I can do! Anyhoo, glad to see you wanna come play in the dirt.

Hey Chuck,

I heard the good news yesterday. It'll be fun having you pits. I would buy the spring kit for the truck so you are covered.

As for setup, the box setup is supposed to be pretty good. I would start there. As for tires, I would assume Edge fronts (stock), holeshots, T2000's (Losi), and maybe the new snake eyes (Proline) or king pins (Losi).

Anyone going to practice this weekend if it the track is ready? Looks to be a decent weather one.

Should have the truck ready to go by the end of the week.
