Racing resumes at the Longest Continuous Ruuning R/C Club in the world; The Capital District R/C Stock Car Club (AKA CD R/C Racers) tomorrow night, Monday 21 June. Others come and go, other proimise and can't deliver, and others just talk.

However, we take pride in listenting to you; the racers; to continue to improve our program and run what you want to run. Times change and those in the pits get left behind. In the end it's not the size of the track that matters; but character of those that race; where-ever, when-ever and what-ever.

Slight time change this week as we go off at 7:00 PM and plan to run straight through the program. First one there soak the track; even if its noon, soak it!!

Thanks and ....

Well in my opinion its the location of the track, and if that location does not exsist then the track dont exsist. The big track is what kept Competition alive. As for the best racing thats questionable. I support the big track because without the big track the short track wouldnt exsist. As for just pulling the trigger and going fast, I dunno where u have been, but it takes a lot of effort to run the big track. It isnt hard to setup a car when ur off the throttle half of the run. Further More if you all think the big track is so easy to drive come on downno work? Wednesday. Prove me wrong!

Hey AL, I think I'll be at the track tonight about 7ish, stop over and say hi. I won't have much to say, but you can talk :p
As for the big track vs. the small track, they're both fun in their own way. I'd race both nights if I could
See you tonight, Bret

Gentlemen..gentlemen...

I am a firm believer that the level of competiton and racers makes this an enjoyable hobby, not the size of the track. If "size matters," we'd all travel to K/N to run carpet in the winter instead of running in Rensselaer or Glens Falls. Point being, the good racing always takes place where the masses go, regardless of track size. It's all relative...

Now Al, why would you start throwing shots at the 4WD class when you haven't even tried one? Not a good thing to do a a race promoter. If people want to run them, sign them up and take their entries...

FYI: Eric's 4WD car looked awfuly fast last night, with the 19 turn... And for the record, John Hauenstein won the big series race and holds the MOD record on the big track, (last year? or 2 years ago), with a 19 turn Chameleon he borrowed from me the day of the race. He outran Bulldog, Terry Schmidt, Brett, Rupert, myself...everyone.

If you want Al, I'll match race my stock car against your mod car on the big track...

There's no reason both nights/tracks can't exist without animosity. All you can do is offer each of your programs, and the racers will decide where they want to compete.

I'm just be thankful we have the facility that we have at Competition. We have a facility that offers tables, power, a drivers stand, a hobbyshop and a deli...and it's not out in the middle of nowhere. I don't take it for granted, because others aren't as fortunate and have to travel hours to race at facilities that aren't half as nice. Think about it...

Al, I'd love to stop by and race sometime this Wednesday if I ever get the day off from work, but I doubt I could prove you wrong. You see, I enjoy making you angry on this message board and was just joking, hence the smily faces. I realize it takes much moe than motor to get around the big track and the main reason I like the small track so much better is probably because i suck on the big track. But trust me, you can go plenty fast with a 19T. There's really no need to get so worked up over these things.

06-22-2004, 01:54 PM
On a different note, I got my Late Model running pretty good last night, but I won't know how good it really is until I get some competition! Trust me, it's the most fun to be had on dirt!

FASTALJR
06-22-2004, 01:57 PM
yes, but like I said before todd the big track is what made Competition what it is, not the short track. I have supported the big track for many years. I also regularly get stuff from the hobby shop. But Frankly racing in a whole has turned me off in the last year. Its lost its fun factor, and become a total money game. At least on Dirt it isnt totally a motor and battery war. Problem is no one wants to race on the big track.

as for 4 wheel drive, I wasnt throwing shots, I`d like to try it, but I want to use a lil more power than a 19 turn, and really anything more than a stock motor is just wasted horsepower on the short track.

AS for the match race? I`m not a betting man but regardless of the motor I think you would win.

Al: Think about what you just said...the bigger the straighaway, the more $$$ it costs to get down it the fastest.
I don't enjoy racing as much either when it becomes a battery and motor game...sounds funny coming from a guy who makes his living off of building race motors, but when I want to race, I'd rather work with the chassis and have to "get up on the wheel" rather than dyno tuning motors and cycling packs. Short tracks are great for this type of racing. You can even bump and bang on the short track, where on the big track it normally causes carnage.
As far as the big track making Competition what it is, if that's the case, thats fine...but from purely a "racing" perspective, there is absolutley better wheel to wheel racing on the short track.
I run motors that aren't good enough for me to packge and sell...These babies are the bottom of the barrel. In fact, I've made the A on two seperate occaisions running 3000's! I wouldn't even consider practicing on the big track with this stuff...
If I can give you some advice re: promoting: If you want to see Wednesday nights take off, get the Offroad track up and runnning. Between buggies, trucks and nitro, I'll bet you get a bigger turnout than both Monday and Wednesday oval nights combined...

Bret, Yes I will be there next week. I went to the latemodel show at Middletown Sunday night and spent a little more then I wanted. Remember it cost me 30.00 a week just to get to Lathem and back, plus racing and what not... But I will be there even though i'm going to Pocono to race a Lambo this Sat. and Sun. I'll bring the video of it next week. Should be fun!!!

Pete Z:
Kirt, Eric and Scott Hauenstein are running the program, and I've kinda self-appointed myself as the water truck. The last 2 weeks we've been done with all the mains by 10:30. With Scott helpng "fill in the gaps" at the computer while we're wrenching, the show moves right along...
You had better keep on top of getting packs charged in time, because the show is moving that fast now....

That's good to hear. Next week should be good, see if we have our first repeat winner of the year. Just shows how close the racing is that no one has doubled up yet.

TP, are you going to the CVRA vs. the World race on Tuesday next week? I'm planning on coming up for it.

Heres an idea, if you want more racers for Wed. nights how about putting up a sign in front of the hobby shop to promote it? Might not be a bad idea to put one up inside as well! Personally I have no preference big or small track, I do equally bad on both and I will race which ever night is convenient for me. Just an idea Al or Kirt but how about having one or two races on a Friday or Saturday night?

Eric i actually ran the car through one pack today on the short track,it go's really well. We need to sweep the rocks and tree debrie of the track. My car seems to hit all that stuff,i ran a 10single with no problems,it was under geared though.More than enough rip to keep the car sideways every where! :D This class will be fun!
See ya monday! For shure!
I cant get soft tires so WET that track on monday,Soak it down pour style.

I don't think you need to worry about soaking the track. Mr Putnam has been made the official water truck, and trust me, there has been no shortage of water in recent weeks. My car can deal with the rocks ok, it's just the big bump in the front straightaway that throws the front end of my car in the air every time I stay in the groove that bothers me. Can't wait to race the thing! Who knows, i might get my dad's done in time too!

KirtC
06-24-2004, 01:20 PM
Hey Pete, we did miss ya. New start time is 7, providing the water truck does his thing on time. No complains as the track was great.

We had a great pace, 8 heats, I left at 10:30 after picking up everything and Eric ran out an extra battery pack in the 4WD.

Sounds good Kirt. I'll be there this Monday. I'm not upset with you or anything else. It's tough sometimes to get out in time to get up there. I have to leave here by 3:00 to beat the traffic up there. See you guy's Monday. When will you start running your place on Friday's?

06-24-2004, 09:29 PM
Eric what did you run for springs? I have a mixed bag of what i thought would work... Tough getting through the grass with the car so low! We need a lawn mower up there!
I will be there with a 19turn so build your pop's car and lets go. It will happen this week, no 1/8th racing as i have to work and i am waiting for a motor.

Pete;
The Pine Bowl will swing into action on Monday July 5th in place of Competition, Friday July 9th as a warm-up to Sat Jul 10th World Dirt Racing stop. Additional dates to be announced shortly, probably every other Friday night.

Mike;
The shocks are done, the body painted, picked up tires Monday and the missing parts showed up in the mail the other day, so I should be ready to go 4 wheel'n on Monday. Mike W and a co-worker (another Mike) should also be ready.

First, let me thank the 38 drivers who traveled to the Pine Bowl and supported this race and the series. My only disappointment was the lack of our local and regular racers. I also apologize to the out of towners who did not have a truck field.

But, on a spectacular weather day the racing was fantastic; and if I do say so myself, the track surface lived up to it's reputation by being fast, tacky, fast, smooth....oh and did I say fast!!!

Last years TQs where obliderated by 3 laps in stock and, put the beer down, 7 laps in Modified.

Mike Damallie layed down a 50 in 4:00.32 topping Dean Anderson's mark of 47 in last years event while Pete D'agnolo upped his own record from 50 to 57 in 4:00.32. However, as is often the case in racing TQ does not guarantee anything. Hard luck award to Mike Damalllie; as he was unable to rebuild the broken front end from the Mod B in time to take the green in the Big Block A. Mike; have that sponsor send another chassis next year. LOL. While in Mod, Matt Olmsted saved the best for last as he drove through around and to the Modified maylay win from his fourth starting position.

Congratulations to all the winners, you deserve it!

Anohter night flirting with Mother nature as very light sprinkles fell on and off throughout the night. But, the show must, and did go on. Thanks for all the track work emergency reapirs, we will attempt to schedule afix-it day very soon.
ALso thanks for all the help on the pick-up; much appreciated. The show started at little late 7:15; but ran smoothly through the 7 heats and 6 mains to finish before 10:00.

Great racing in the Sportmans class, you guys are really showing improvement. The only major incident showed us how "Slammin" Sam got his nick-name (I sure hope he finds that shock!!).

Slightly smaller crowd that ususal, but I'll bet the weather and the weekend race where to blame.

Results will be posted shortly on that thread.

Please don't forget to support the hobby shop and the Deli as we owe these establishments a great deal of gratitute for the arrangement we have enjoyed. Lets not ignor the hand that helps us.

'til next week when we'll....

Another great night in all phases and aspects:

The track crew, volunteers and volunteered, did a fantastic job repairing the front straight; which was in bad shape for an off-road track, let alone an oval!

Everyone was ready to go all night. 8 races in a round; everything run and done before 10:30.

New faces and old friends finding there way onto the oval:

Tom Rogers welcome back

Brett Lund; Talk about come-backs, nothing short of a miracle :>)

Louie Citro a newcomer to the area and our zany band of racers.

Most of all: wonderful to have help behind the mike, which allowed me to race!! Thanks to Todd, John and Tom.

This week’s quiz: Just how many laps does “Hot-Lap Hollinger” take each week?

Submit your guess onto the Club’s web site via an email

Winner will be chosen by a random drawing of all correct entries received by midnight 25 July 2004

Congrats to all the winners:

Tony the tiger continues his winning ways in the Trucks

Aaron keeps getting quicker, it won’t be long

Putnam may need a bounty on him to stop his EDM Big Block domination

(Rupert are you free any Monday nights) LOL

Derek Koniowka gets in the run of his career to take down the Sportsman “A”

(Maybe not having brother Frank’s tuning tips where a good thing)

Brett Lund rents a late model and destroys the field (with a 27 turn)

Next time I’ll be ready for the drop of the green.

Next week’s project:

Getting Justin’s radio issues solved

Help’n Matt get that da@#$%^ truck figured out

As I mentioned last week Eric is moving into a new house and web updates will be as soon as possible, please be patient.

Last but not least, only 6 weeks of the most fun, thrilling and exciting summer dirt points season remain (Oh No!!)

Stay tuned for special events and the season ending ceremonies.

Just a note to all the guys running TC3s in the Late Model Class. You should probably check the ball ends on the top of the front block carriers. When I checked over my car the other night, they had completely backed out and were rubbing the inside of the wheels. If you recall, this same thing happened to Eric's TC3 (although his ball end just fell out completely).

I WON'T condone stock racing, but I did have plenty of power with a stocker. In fact it felt PERFECT!!! Hammer down!!! I believe we should be able to run whatever motor you choose, I'll choose something slower than 19t.
Maybe in the future, with more 4WD knowledge, and more bite, I'd go for more power, but for now a stocker should do EVERYONE just fine. Not a rule, it should be a choice!!!

Mother Nature tried to fool us, as we hot lapped in light sprinkles until 6:45 but decided the show must go on. With pit boxes under plastic and well hidden under trees we went green at 6:50PM. By 7:45 the mist had stopped. By the second round the track was starting to come in, although many would say it never got quite tacky enought.

Great crowd for an "ugly" night. The return of Dave Peek in a borrowed ride from the Hollner stable, Bob and Bobby in tow, the invader from the West Jeff Rupret brought it home 3rd; but could not lay down the spanking he had hoped to.

Two things remained consistant,Putnam on top of the Big Block event; and ALvin is no where in sight on race night. LMAO !!

Congrats to the winners, the only loosers are those that went home early (no hard feelings, we just got lucky [again])!!
