View Full Version : CD R/C 2004 Dirt Season Thread Team PZR 05-21-2004, 08:46 PM Kirt, When will you be racing at your place? Friday nights still? KirtC 05-24-2004, 10:25 AM Keep tuned to the sites for notice on tonight's activity. If all goes the way it has the last three days, this weather blows through, we race this evening, and it comes back after midnight. See Ya.................At The Track KirtC 05-24-2004, 03:56 PM No rain since 11:30; Only widely scattered showers in the west; so we'll give it a shot tonight. Team PZR 05-24-2004, 04:26 PM I'm not going to chance it. The radar doesn't look good. So I'll save my 25.00 in gas and tolls for next week :( . Kirt will you be having any races at your place? Memorial Day 100??? oldnewbie 05-24-2004, 04:32 PM looks good from here, im going tonite -tony FASTALJR 05-24-2004, 05:27 PM I dont think it looks good at all. The track is prolly a mud swamp anyway. I`m sure that the loose stuff on top from the dragging is washed away. KirtC 05-25-2004, 06:25 AM Thanks to all those who came, but all we got where a few hot laps in before the tornado threat ( and downpour at 6:45) chased us home. Track will be super, as the few minor grooves that where left by the make-over are now rain-flattened and swept smooth. See Y'all tonight, 7:15 we go green. Pete coming up to play !?! No Snack-bar on Tuesday so grab something on the way. Team PZR 05-25-2004, 04:14 PM No, Monday's only for me. What about my other question? KirtC 05-26-2004, 06:23 AM I'm working on a schedule, want to wait and solidify it before announcing it. Will know by end of the week. KirtC 05-27-2004, 12:53 PM Breaking News Revised scheduling has us racing next week on Tuesday 1 June (no rain date) at the normal time. Everyone had such a great time last night we voted not to waste the week just for the Monday holiday. But, this way you can go the BBQ with the Mrs and still race. Clarification, there are 4 drops this summer, not the other number I erroneously posted. Snack bar will open around 7:30 PM Green flag for heats 7:15 PM Rcracer7 05-27-2004, 08:28 PM Web site updated with points, track records, and news. http://cdrcracers.50megs.com (http://cdrcracers.50megs.com/) disruptor10 05-28-2004, 06:45 AM I hear there's gonna be some Mini T's show up on tuesday night ........so they say we will see ... KirtC 06-08-2004, 12:51 PM Oh What a Night !!! The Mini-T's made their opeing night appearance and where treated to a fast and tacky track. Now we just have to remind the groomer which surface is the oval and which one is the off-road. :jest: An amaizing Truck main with 1 & 2 swapping the lead at least 12 times with the final pass for the lead in turn 3 of the final lap. The EDM main was another great race. Tough to even make it. Eric was the suprise of the night with a solid second and running down the leader in lap traffic until he tangled with a spinning back-marker and lost a lap. New faces once again, Hello Vic, great to have you join our band of wacky racers. We've covered the front stretch to keep the moisture in it during this week of outdoor baking!! For Complete results see Dirtoval.com or cdrcracers.50megs.com See Ya next week, at the Track:thumbsup: PS: Get Well Brett, we're praying for you:wave: Todd Putnam 06-08-2004, 02:44 PM -Eric was the "Dark Horse" of the day... He may be up for the Kasey Kahne award. -Good to see Pete Z. making the trek up the Thruway, as well as John "FissyFab" Fisler coming out of Dirt Oval retirement, as both an owner of the Triple H entry as well as the driver of the Steve Kinser Mini T... "Swine Racing" rides again! -Kudos to John Shultz for his impressive B Main win in his first dirt oval attempt. -Dave LaROCK proving he is still my truck God, regardless of size. ...Monday nights are proof that you don't need to spend big money on big equipment to have big fun and GREAT racing...and you can do it all on a little track. Rcracer7 06-08-2004, 10:35 PM I'll have my late model there and all ready to go next week, and I want someone to race it against! Mike Croll you out there? Any 4WD sedan with a wedge body and 19T motor for those who are interested... Rcracer7 06-08-2004, 10:37 PM Oh yeah web ubdate by tomorrow afternoon. 2:30 at the latest. Sorry for he delay. disruptor10 06-14-2004, 12:02 PM Humm another monday with the weather in LIMBO ........only mother nature know if we will get the show in ....... :jest: KirtC 06-14-2004, 12:18 PM Right you are Dave, Mother Nature is tonights winner. With the threat of severe thunder showers and the current ominous clouds, we are cancelling tonights show in hopes of using the Rain Date, tomorrrow. The Deli will open between 7 & 7:30. See Ya Tuesday, At The Track:thumbsup: Kirt FASTALJR 06-14-2004, 05:35 PM I dunno the weather looks good to me. oldnewbie 06-14-2004, 05:41 PM all i know is... it better rain!! The Jet 06-14-2004, 09:51 PM No rain yet  Cancel a race because it might rain??? Guess the weatherman is wrong once again. I'll see you guys tomorrow :p Later, Bret Rcracer7 06-14-2004, 11:38 PM Well, there isn't much to say other than we screwed up bad tonight. The decision to cancel racing was obviously made too early based on a false weather forecast. I'm sure when the sun came out nice and bright around 2:30 nobody even thought to check a website, or even call the hobby store. Thats why we had all but a full crowd show up at the track. And thats also why we grabbed the computer and drove up to the track around 6:00, because we didn't feel it was right to let 20 racers drive to the track and not be able to race. We tried to call everyone we could to let them know that we changed our minds and would be racing, but obviously we weren't able to reach everyone. We sincerely appologize to anyone who did hear that we would be cancelled and therefore was not able to race with us tonight. Unfortunetely, due to the fact that we did have almost a full crowd, there will be no organized racing tomorrow night. If it's any concelation at all, we are not counting this week as a points event, so you will not be penalized for not racing. Once again, we are truly sorry that some people were not able to race because of our brash judgements. In the future, the decision to cancel racing will not be made until we are absolutely 100% sure we will not be able to race. This was a terrible mistake that hopefully will never happen again. To those of you who were sent away, please do not be offended. We would have loved to have you at the track. Racing will be held on Monday at our normal time next week. Once again, we are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. Hope to see everyone back again next week. -Eric KirtC 06-15-2004, 12:19 PM Eric, thanks for the Post this AM to catch everyone up to speed. There is no racing tonight, no points this week and no blame to spread. The ‘we’ in Eric’s post should read Kirt. I am the one solely responsible for totally screwing up this whole deal. Be upset with me alone. I am sorry and will never cancel an event in this fashion again. At least I found something worse than my driving…..my judgment and the weatherman’s forecasting ability. There is one other thing that could be done to eliminate this from happening again…..Impeach me…..! Todd Putnam 06-15-2004, 01:21 PM Impeach?!? Uh, not a shot... If George Bush hasn't been impeached, you might have the title of Club President for life. We're all human...honest mistake. Let's all look forward to next week.... disruptor10 06-15-2004, 01:38 PM Hey ya know shit happens......did any of the MINI T guys race ? The Jet 06-15-2004, 03:45 PM Ah, live and learn. I didn't go to a motocross race once because the forcast was REAL bad, but guess what, not a drop of rain. I learned to go no matter what, and if it rained, well, then I'd decide what to do. I wanted to get out for a bit, just wish someone got on the computer and said you were racing, because now tonights out too. I'll get out to see you guy's next week then. Later, Bret DIRTISFORWORMS 06-15-2004, 10:11 PM Ok eric im in ill lay paint to it tomorrow . I cant race 1/8th for the next 2 weeks so ill run circles instead. You can run 19turn but ill run a binary sounds fair on the small track. See ya monday6/22 weather permitting,of course. Lets get the class going, you have my commitment for 2 weeks. If ya have one bring it its gonna be fun! :D KirtC 06-16-2004, 10:23 AM Mike Sounds Great. The Monday part's good, but lets make it the 21st I am also working on one, but it's going slow.... mikef 06-16-2004, 07:40 PM Hey guys, First off, I guess I should sort of introduce myself. My name is Mike, I live in Averill Park NY, and I just finished my freshman year of college. Beyond knowing the Watson family and looking at thier cars and having a TC3 (the RTR kit) that I played around with (not raced yet) I have no experiance with R/C. Anyways, I'm planning to drop by this Monday at Competition Hobbies and check out your racing. I was originally thinking that I might try and put together a EDM car, thinking that a TC3 wouldnt be useful outdoors. It seems though that it can fit into the 4WD Late Model Class. Is this so? I looked at your website and the few details on this class, seems all I would need is a body and probably a set of tires. The only other thing is that I currently have only the radio set that came with the RTR kit, its 27MHz AM, so can I use this for the time being? Thanks for any insight and hope to see you all on Monday night, Mike oldnewbie 06-16-2004, 08:05 PM looks like your ready to race!...but if you never raced you might wanna start out in novice class, depending on how your driving skills are, but they only run gearbox's in novice., so im not sure, i'll leave that up to the club prez..(Kirt). Rcracer7 06-17-2004, 11:46 AM Mike, you certainly can run your TC3 in the late model class! We're looking for some more people. The biggest issue is finding a body, as none of hobby store around here carry them. I bough a McAllister Hagerstown late model body. There website is www.mcallisterracing.com. That and a soft set of foam tires should be all you need to get going. 4WD might actually be a better place to start on dirt, as they handle significantly better than a 2WD car. mikef 06-17-2004, 02:11 PM Ok, cool, yeah I saw that McCallister bodies sells a late model body, and they have an ebay store so its quite easy, i guess I'll pick one of those up later today. Any suggestions on what foams will work well for a beginner? Also my last question on setup is just a general direction on what to do for shocks. Currently I have 40wt oil and i currently have 14.4lb/in springs (TC3 silver) in the back and 19.5lbs/in springs (TC3 gold) in the front. I know that I will have to change those out, I just ordered a spring set for the car, any suggestions on a place to start? And one last thing, i found a short article on setting up one of these things on RC Car Actions website, http://www.rccaraction.com/rc/articles/dirt_2.asp It actually uses a TC3, but with the rally conversion kit (something I hope to eventually get) installed. mike KirtC 06-17-2004, 04:33 PM Mike; Great to have you joining us. If you choose McAllister, you'll want the Hagerstown Latemodel (Its the narrowest at 200mm). Tires, either Green or Pink compound should work, as that's what most EDM gearbox use. Check-out Dirtoval.com forums, there is one thread now on TC3 dirt oval set-ups and I've seen others in the past, do some searches and go back a few months. The 27 Mhz band radio is fine, many of us use them. As Eric stated the class is new, so we're all going to be searching for what our track needs. See you Monday; At The Track ......... Rain or Shine (inside joke) Kirt mikef 06-17-2004, 04:52 PM Ok, already ordered a Hagerstown body from McAllister. It'll only hang over the side of the tires a little bit for right now (car currently has 190mm setup, until i get a rally kit later on) mike Team PZR 06-18-2004, 03:41 PM Mike, Unless your running a real rough and bumpy track you don't need the Ralley kit. Lathem is pretty smooth. Just set the car up as if your running on a bumpy parking lot and you'll be fine. Go with green springs all around. mikef 06-18-2004, 04:24 PM Thanks, yeah I've seen most people say that same thing about the rally kit, so thats one less expense to 'need', although being a fanatic about rally racing im sure I'll end up getting it some day just for kicks. I got some help from Mike Watson last night setting up my TC3 for the late model class, and so once I get the body here and painted I should be ready to go. Mike FASTALJR 06-19-2004, 01:19 AM is it me or is it just that wedge cars (i.e. late models) are supposed to go real fast???? You cant go real fast with a 19turn, and when ur constantly turning. Rcracer7 06-20-2004, 09:34 PM You know what Al? Some of us like to do more than pull the triigger and just go fast on a long straightaway. Contrary to everything you believe, you can still go fast AND have good racing on a short track. Matter of fact, the best racing comes at a short track. Go ahead and stick to your big track.
