Ron it sure would be nice to see you guys out racing again.I think Dave J is planning on stock,19T,4300 BL and 5800 BL for classes.I'm going to run one BL class and one brushed class, depending on the size of the crowds on Saturdays.I know there is some interest in the BL stuff not sure how many guys will run though. It sounds like Hays the elder and Mike Simkins wants to run 4300 BL and Pat Simkins and I are leaning towards the 5800 BL.

Well for what its worth I hope to run the 4300BL and the stock class, maybe I will get more track time that way.

Ron, GREAT to here from you again!!! I'm sure you and Jimmy would enjoy the brushless classes, all you have to do is work on your car set up,race and hangout at
the refreshment stand and RELAX!!!

Do you guys run wings in stock and if so are they on the pod or not?????

Dave J
03-23-2005, 09:16 PM
Merich401, we run wings in all the classes at the TriClone (outdoor track) and most
drivers mount them on the pod.

merich401
03-23-2005, 10:17 PM
Has anybody tried mounting them to the body or just running a spoiler in stock to see if they pick up any speed? It just makes since to me b/c we run just spoilers in stock on flat carpet and have no problem, i would think the bank would help turn the car more. You think this would work there or maybe at a track with a higher banking but i havent ran much pavement races
Thanks
Matt

I think the wing mounted to the body MIGHT work, but just a spoiler would not. When the car unloads coming out of the corner, I think that you would be way too loose. When the car goes into the banking it compresses the center spring and that's where the bulk of your turning occurs. However you are still turning when that spring is unloading and when it extends your rear end gets light. That's a situation you don't encounter on a flat track. At least that's the way I perceive it, but what do I know. L.O.L.

That makes since to me, I am going to try it with the wing on the body and maybe run more drop on the pod if i try it with just a spoiler.
Thanks for all the help

Maybe I can shed some light on this since I actually tried wing on body for a few weeks last year. I was able to run fast (not faster than on the pod) with it on the body, but the car became much more inconsistent. The problem is turn 1. It's very difficult to keep the car under control through 1 with the wing on the body. You absolutely will not be able to get around the track with no wing. Remeber this is paved with caps not carpet with foams so there is much less traction and much higher speeds. Even though the track is banked it is still much more slippery than a flat carpet track, which is why you need a wing and probably should have it on the pod.

we need the wingon the pod due to the amount of banking in the turns.. if this was a tru oval, then the body mounted might work.. but this track has 3 turns.. two tight and one flowing... the turns are so agressive, u need the force on the pod, to keep rear wheels planted while going through the turn..

People have tried wings on the body.. it is not as fast as on the pod, but it does work enough to get around the track...

we set our wings below the roof height.. then when entering the turn, the pod droops, and the wing goes above the roofline,, as you exit the turn and the pod drops back the wing goes below in the straights...this seems to be the most popular, and least amount of drag..

years ago we used to run nastruck qwithout a wing, just a large spoiler...it also can work, but again it is not as fast/...

Tried out the cap tires Friday weather was kinda nice, track was great. Going out again Saturday and Sunday. Would like to have a big jump on the out door season. Dave J got his fix for the day doing some laps with my car. Flying Bob was also making some laps and kept all four wheels on the track. The track was great, Dave J, Dave H, Flying Bob, Hays Sr,Craig V, and Shadow.
Track was less dusty then Saturday, rain washed it off, seems like it was fast.
Dave Jansen was trying out his brushless in a truck body. We all had great time, was just great to be out doors.
