View Full Version : Pontoon Speedway Ralf 03-04-2005, 11:06 PM Got any battery tape at the track? Ralf Ralf 03-05-2005, 07:48 PM Hey Kelm! Just bought a McAllister Racing Oval conversion for one of my old Aluminum tub RC-10's!!!! Got one that is all drilled out (pattern from Competition Plus, remember that Magazine!) with a modified tranny. Going to fix it up for dirt oval this summer! MK Race 03-08-2005, 12:27 AM TRACK RECORD    Bob W 03-08-2005, 09:10 AM You know a lot of people say, it's not about the dam track record, but about having fun.:p Well_________> Bob W 03-08-2005, 09:11 AM I have always found, that when U have the TRACK RECORD Your having fun.  :D Matt Bayless 03-08-2005, 03:09 PM Mike congrats. on your big win. See you soon Matt. treecutter 03-08-2005, 03:36 PM hey mike when is the last race at pontoon we got the march madness race this weekend at allens i'm going to try a little right hand turns . then maybe vinton for the oval if i can get allen out of the tractor so let me know when the last race is maybe we'll make it down :dude: Ralf 03-08-2005, 03:46 PM I believe that the last Race at Pontoon Raceway will be a Wednesday night the 30th. of March. The last Sunday race would be on Easter Sunday so I think they are planning a Saturday race. Check out their web site for updates. www.geocities.com/pontoonrc/ (http://www.geocities.com/pontoonrc/) Great bunch of guys to race with and most are PLENTY FAST ! Ralf 13 rickk5 03-09-2005, 04:07 PM WAY TO GO MIKE, NICE JOB:thumbsup: MK Race 03-09-2005, 09:50 PM Thanks Rick. Well it looks like we should close earlier than we thought. Bob called me at 6pm to let me know that only him, Tony, and Big Rob were the only ones to show up. Thanks for calling me Bob, I was just going out the door. When Bob told me last year that Gary had found a building to race at, that sounded like good news. He told me about how much work was needed and I asked him if he wanted to do all that work just for a few people to come out and race. Well, I have to thank all the guys that put in the time to get the place going, Bob, Kevin Franko, Big Rob, Tony Perino, and Robski. Sorry if I forgot anybody, sure those guys know who was there to work. Well the place turned off to be the best race track that the area has had in quite a while. I know you don't see my name there for the work group. I told Bob that I had a lot of other things going on and wouldn't be there to work. I would show up to race though. For whatever reason, seems like not that many people really wanted to race this year after all. So what to do???????? MK Race 03-09-2005, 10:01 PM Here's my 2 cents: Finish out the rest of March. Hate to have Ralf come all this way and not get to race just once at the new place. Also, I would like to run so I can practice. Last year Me, Bob, Big Rob, Mark, and Todd did a lot of traveling to Allen's, and went to Fastlane in KC. We had a lot of fun traveling. I heard from a lot of people why we don't have a place at home to race at. We did, but I don't think we ever will again. I know Bob doesn't want to be in charge of anything again. I know I sure don't. So if anybody wants to step up and take charge for the future, do so now. I think we should talk to Allen about buying our carpet. Take all the money left in the club and give it to a charity. rickk5 03-09-2005, 10:47 PM hey if you are planning to travel this summer you need to keep in touch ,as i told you i want to go to!! its a shame that i will only get a couple of sundays before we shut down i wish i would have known earlier!! i know ive been out for quite a while but when i threw the car down on sunday just to practice all those old feelings came right back, i think you guys know what i'm talking about, so keep me posted on summer plans mike?? rickk5 03-09-2005, 10:49 PM and yes i will be there again sunday!!!!! Ralf 03-09-2005, 10:56 PM I sure hope you guys will be open on the 20th and the 23rd.! Was planniing on spending some time with my family on Monday and Tuesday, then racing again Wednesday evening before heading back to NC. If you think you will not be open be sure to let me know. :( Can't believe you are not getting the racers out, would love to have a nice carpet track within an hours drive of where I live now. Ralf Matt Bayless 03-10-2005, 02:08 AM Mike if things continue the way the seem down there it looks bad.I have a spare bed room so if you want to come race here in Springfield MO..I could let you sleep here to save on you hotel, motel expencises.Just let me know when I'll set up the air bed. Ralf 03-10-2005, 03:06 PM Anybody racing at Pontoon on the 20th. of this month got a personal transponder they want to sell? Ralf 13 ROBSKI 03-10-2005, 05:50 PM Hay Mk, Nuts jake86 03-10-2005, 06:20 PM If anyone is interested in selling one of there personal transponders I would be interested if the price is right. Jason Jackson racen4 03-10-2005, 08:36 PM We will be out of town this weekend but planing to run next Wed night. And I think you are right Mike this may be the last time we have a home track. We have all been around for a while and Im not sure what to think of the failing turn out. when you look just 60 miles north and see a track with great turn out every week. Then you think of the on road night that never did get of the ground, funny hobby :p . I do wish I knew the answer. I have heard talk about a novice class where you run a little bit slower and more Controllable motor. mabe this would bring new people into our hobby. I do know when I first started racing RC cars ( cant beleive I remember that far back) It was all I could so to wait untill the next race day, I looked forward to it all week and was there bright and early,Just to crash from wall to wall. I dont see that excitment with new drivers . any way c ya Wed Randy Ralf 03-10-2005, 10:22 PM I remember being excited like that too when I started racing at Pontoon. The trouble is you have to try it to find out if you really like it and you need new blood to keep a track going. The kids all like to play in the dirt, catch "big air" going over jumps in their monster trucks. Carl's son for example, he seemed to lose interest once he bought the T-Maxx. Even at the track here in Asheville it is mostly an older group of racers. It was by pure luck I stumbled across an "old" Pontoon web site, I expected to find a dirt oval the first time I stpped by. People have to know you exist, and where you are. Another problem is that none of the hobby shops in the area carry any oval stuff (cars or parts) so they have no vested interest in promoting it. Somehow you need to promote it to get the growth you need to keep a track running, I think it is easier in the rural areas as there is not as much for a kid to do. Maybe you need to race at some mall parking lots for exposure, maybe have some loaner cars for people to try out. Another problem is the expense of getting started and competing, scary when you stop and think how much you have invested in eqipment. I saw one HS/track on the web that actually supplied batteries abd chargers for people who bought cars and ran in a "beginners class" so they didn't have to lay out a large sum of money to get started. Sometimes I wish we hadn't had to move (but I really love western NC, the mountains are beautiful . I have put more miles on my motorcyle here in one year than I did in three in St. Louis) but I REALLY miss racing Sundays and Wednesdays at Pontoon. Maybe this is a good subject for a new thread? Sorry you guys don't think the track /club will hold together, I am still coming back the 20th. hope ya'll hold on til then. I am fortunate that I got to race with some of the fastest guys in RC! Ralf MK Race 03-10-2005, 11:25 PM Ralf, bring your stuff with you when you come home. I'm sure we will still be there till the end of March. I think we got away from the CLUB. There are many things that I think we could have done different. I'm not trying to burn anybody here, just making statements. Joe Novak 03-11-2005, 01:38 AM Hey Mk sorry to hear that the turn out is pretty low,if I raced oval I would love to come down and race with you guys,I think Tim is going to try and make it down before you guys close up! rickk5 03-11-2005, 08:26 PM hey bob, do you have any associated front end kits ? rickk5 03-11-2005, 08:30 PM i guess what i really want to know is will a ksg front end work on my g-force?? or is there something comparable??? do you know Bob W 03-11-2005, 08:32 PM All right guys, Here is the line up for Sunday #1 Qualifier race so for ; # 1 Mike; section 8 champ .. inside front row # 2 Mark; The repair Man .. outside front row # 3 Todd ; The Stock Car Man inside row 2 # 4 Bob; The Tranny Man .. outside row 2 # 5 Rick; Mr. Crankenstein inside row 3 Teams that have crashed and burned with no backup car; #1 The Lawnmower Man #2 Big incorporated Your either on the top list or the bottom list.
