View Full Version : New 1/6 Scale Lost in space Figures
Robots r' us 11-04-2004, 10:03 AM All information regarding any new releases, Robot Factory Exclusives, etc., will be posted on both the Sci-Fi Metropolis site and on the Robot Factory site. I will also post on a few forums such as this one just to let people know. By being a member of the "Collectors Society" you will have the opportunity to purchase very limited licensed itmes only available to those members.
I hope that answered your question.
[QUOTE=Robots r' us] We are giving everyone here a heads up to be first to place your pre orders.
Type "Norman Sockwell" in Google, and you find him all over! And with good reason; Any item I've ever bought from him is really good!
Best wishes in his success!
I'm new here, and I have a question in regard to "heads up". When one becomes a lifetime member in The Sci-Fi Metropolis Society, will these members get a "heads up" or do we need to follow news on forums such as this? Thank you.
Bloop, bloop!
thebloop 11-04-2004, 10:14 PM Thanks for your reply.
Reason for my asking about a "heads up" is that I sometimes miss opportunities when I don't follow these sites.
One company which does give a heads up to its members via e-mail is Master Replicas. Although I never see break privileges in their pricing, their heads up allows the collector (merely a previous customer) a first chance into the collectible before being made public. This allows early editions of the product. To some, first pressing is desirable although it doesn't make much difference to me.
Mainly, I'm interested in reminders.
thebloop 11-04-2004, 10:26 PM Of all chimps, me with a name like "thebloop", I must ask this:
Among figurines for future plans, has Debbie - The Bloop been considered? After all, she is family, you know! And she was there before the soon available Dr. Smith and The Keeper.
And The One-eyed Giant. . . We GOTTA have one of those! Unlike the Trendmasters version, hopefully bigger than the humans.
Once people start their collection, they'll want to convey a lifelike scenery in their display. It'll much more interesting than Beany Bears!
Bloop, bloop!

thebloop 11-04-2004, 11:09 PM For Master Replicas, simply type masterreplicas.com in your URL.
The link, below, directs you to their Star Trek replicas of which some are sold out.

Good company! Much like any decent product, there's a bit of a wait. But once you get that replica, you'll be amazed. On any of these collectibles, never throw away the boxes.
bert model maker 11-04-2004, 11:57 PM great link thanks very cool stuff !!!
ham1963 12-21-2004, 05:28 PM OK, we are at the end of December and getting ready to move into January what is the story on the figures??????
DR. PRETORIOUS 12-21-2004, 06:33 PM I found an update on their website today. Heres the link:
http://scifimetropolis.com/
ham1963 12-21-2004, 08:57 PM I saw the updates on action figures thier website also I was just wondering when they were going to be shipping them.
DR. PRETORIOUS 12-21-2004, 09:05 PM It said available February/March 2005. We'll have to wait and see.
flyingfrets 12-21-2004, 09:51 PM Uhh...NONE of this sounds even vaguely familiar to any of you?
Still say this is all a "pipe-dream" till I see some product online or on the shelves.
Sorry to be so cynical, but we've been down this road before with a number of limited production companies. Usually limited to the prototypes and then...pfft...nothing, zero, zip, zilch, nada.
lisfan 12-21-2004, 09:57 PM im waiting just to be safe
heiki 12-24-2004, 12:56 PM I feel safe waiting!
VAPORWARE!!!
Plain & Simple.
"Had to wait for some parts being produced elsewhere before we started selling the Jupiter 2 models"
That was over 3 months ago!!
OH!!!!!! I get it.
They are hoplessly Lost in Space.
I guess as far as actual factual knowledge, Lunar Models is doing a better job than these other guys... LOL
bert model maker 12-24-2004, 02:34 PM i really want to see this become a very successful project
lisfan 12-25-2004, 01:27 PM i believe we all do! im just being cautious from past experience. ill buy everything when its definitely ready for sale. i wish them lots of luck success and prosperity in their venture.
bert model maker 12-25-2004, 01:35 PM me too it would be very wonderful to have these available and oh hey, MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!
Bert
lisfan 12-25-2004, 01:37 PM Merry Christmas to you too Bert and to all on this great board
thebloop 12-28-2004, 06:57 PM I don't blame some of you for your skepticism. It happened to me a couple of times, first Icons with their promised B9 and J2 and then Unobtanium with their Star Trek Enterprise with saggy Nacelles.
Think of it this way. If the Robot Factory were to distribute saggy junk, well. . . I'd rather wait until they're ready with the good stuff.
Speaking of good stuff, have you seen the improvement on the figurines? Perhaps it's better photography, but those models have a much better likeness to the actors.
All I can tell you is that I bought items from Norm several times. Expect delays, but when it arrives, it'll be very good.

Fool me ONCE - Shame on YOU!
Fool me TWICE - SHAME ON ME!!!
DR. PRETORIOUS 02-22-2005, 01:04 PM UPDATE: http://www.scifimetropolis.com/j2build.html
heiki 02-22-2005, 01:42 PM Looks like the 2 foot j2 model is missing the blast shield doors.
Any prices posted?

yes, when will prices be available and exactly how much building is needed ? example the landing gear, are the legs and steps individual or all one piece ? I noticed in 2 of the pictures 1 showed the tether hooks AND the open/close button panel next to the hatch and the 2and showed only the tether hooks will it come with the open/close buttons panel ?
Seaview 02-23-2005, 03:07 PM Well, this is a hopeful sign that they haven't abandoned this project (or US). I think that this is one of those occasions where patience will pay off huge dividends (provided that nobody doesn't die of old age in the meantime)!

I guess I'd perfer better information/communication. I'm interested in knowing further about the 4 foot Jupiter2 and the 1 to 1 scale space pod.
bert model maker 02-24-2005, 09:42 PM thats the one i would like to get some more info. on. the 4 footer :) anyone have a cost estimate on the 24 inch and the 4 footer? :)
I wonder if they give a discount to AARP members? Which we will all be by the time the 4 footer actually hits the shelves. They are extremely slow getting their projects completed.
bert model maker 02-25-2005, 10:18 PM Mark, what did you end up doing with your 2 footer ? i want to reopen mine when i have time i glued the hulls together using "goop" it held nicely then i had to put the upper hull edge to a grinder to get rid of the overhang, i still have an upper hull overhang on the left front but you have to look underneath to see it. I wonder how SFM is getting the hull halves to go on even, gotta be better than looner !!!
Bert
Mine is "done" for the time being. it hangs from 3 steel Control Line airplane wires from a hook in my ceiling. Radio controlled gear works, Lighting works, and I've made a few video clips of it. After moving, and setting up house with fiancee' I've been too busy to do any hobby stuff..... darn it.
bert model maker 02-27-2005, 02:10 PM glad you got it done, mine is sitting on the floor in a spare closet until i can find a place to display all of my models in the house we moved into
It's probably better to display the BIG SAUCERS (C57D, 2 foot Jupiter 2 etc) by hanging them instead of giving up so much shelf space.
DR. PRETORIOUS 03-02-2005, 10:06 AM Can you post any of your video clips for us to see?
bert model maker 03-02-2005, 11:37 AM mark, are you going to get one of SFM's jupiter 2's if and when they come out ?
The teeny video clip is almost 4 meg, and the BIG one is almost 550 meg. As far as buying one..........maybe a 4 footer IF and WHEN it's offered, and depending on the materials. I don't want a big saggy jupiter 2 after 2-3 years. I use a 3 peice sponge thing to rest my LM 2 footer on when not hung on wires.
bert model maker 03-03-2005, 12:45 PM a 4 footer would be nice wonder where i would put it ?
The BIG question will be about the materials used for the 4 footers landing legs. I'd suggest metal, maybe get a ductwork fabricator to stamp and fold the parts and spotweld the bottom plates on, and weld brass bushings for the hinge????
heiki 03-17-2005, 11:17 AM What!? Do we have an update?!?
Aparently they are close to releasing the 2 foot job. I was speculating about the 4 foot job after re-reading all the complaints on the Ent-D models that sagged after a few years. A large model that costs a few hundred bucks should be around and presentable for a couple of decades, so I was adding MY $.02...
bert model maker 03-18-2005, 10:25 AM i wonder how the hulls will mate ? i hope better than the lunars hulls
DR. PRETORIOUS 03-19-2005, 06:00 PM I just received this email update:

any word on the jupiter 2 releases ? when will the 24 inch and the 4 foot j2 be ready for purchase ?
DR. PRETORIOUS 03-29-2005, 10:22 PM Heres your answer: http://www.robotfactory.net/Jupiter2_Kit.html
heiki 03-30-2005, 12:30 PM $299.00 plus $16.00 shipping and handling. Still have to build it at that price.
Nothing about the 4 footer yet.....
http://www.robotfactory.net/images/JUPITER2_KIT.gif
http://www.robotfactory.net/images/JUPITER2_KIT.gif
so for a 2 footer we're talking roughly 300 bucks, so a 4 footer is prolly gonna be 1200 or so. thats less than 'some' have paid for 4 foot hulls of dubious background...
bert model maker 03-30-2005, 06:37 PM do you have to cut out the leg wells and the viewports ? And The fusion core is cast as one clear piece? so all 64 panes have to be masked off like the polar lights fusion core clear piece ? Anyone know yet how the two hull haves will mate together ? I know the lunar models 2 footer hulls are an absolute NIGHTMARE to get lined up.
I guess it all depends on your building (and sanding) skills. I used tin snips on my 2 foot LM job, to cut close, then I sanded the rim on a piece of 1/4 inch plywood with 120 grit sandpaper glued to it, and C-Clamped to a known flat table. I sanded the upper one til it looked right, then sanded the lower one until it matched, since the angle was more shallow, it reduced faster. THEN I added stiffener rings on both pieces and made sure they dried FLAT.
jbond 03-31-2005, 01:56 PM I'm perfectly happy with my PL J2...but I've ordered some of the 12" LIS figures.
bert model maker 03-31-2005, 06:54 PM i wonder how sfm's hulls are going to mate to each other, are they providing a flat even surface to mate the hull halves to ? I don't want to spend the kind of $ i did with the LM J2 2 footer then have to anquish over that senario all over again.
bert model maker 03-31-2005, 07:00 PM i didn't see any landing struts in the parts picture with the lazer cut landing legs.
