John Warner 02-16-2004, 10:08 PM Okay racers, I agree with Hankster, since it's our second season, and a new year it's time for a new thread, soooooo....... Let's all use this one only!
Gentelman...... start your engines!!!!!!!!!!
bustedparts 02-16-2004, 11:13 PM Yes I have been huffin nitro for a few weeks now.LET GET IT ON!
John Warner 02-16-2004, 11:18 PM Yes I have been huffin nitro for a few weeks now.LET GET IT ON!
A few weeks??????? I'm NOT buying that story!
What about last year.... huh???
:drunk: :drunk:
bustedparts 02-16-2004, 11:22 PM I just bought some new stuff.I ran out of the old stuff!
Dave Walton 02-17-2004, 01:36 PM Since we have a couple months before we can get out there I would like to throw out a couple problems from last year and mybe we can have it allready to go when its time. One of the problems was starting to late and then taking to much time between rounds. If any of you guys run indoors you allready know that John has been doing a great job running things on time and not doing a lot of waiting. The late start and big delays was the biggest complaints last year. The guys from Kalamazoo said they would come more often if they could get home sooner. I would like to see the first round go off at 1:00 and stick to 3 minute between rounds. What do the rest of you guys think.

Dave I couldn't agree with you more!! I say we start at 1:00pm sharp, and use the 3 minutes between rounds rule. We can start out the first week with 5 minutes between rounds, and then after a couple of weeks change to 4 minutes until everybody gets accustomed to the procedure before we go to three. Don't you agree?? (don't forget I drive almost as far as anybody does, so getting out early would be awesome!)
Dave Walton 02-17-2004, 07:25 PM John you have done a great job this winter with this problem. All we need to do is carry it over to the summer program. If we have a small turn out on a certian day and we choose to stay around and BS atleast it is at our own choice. Lets here from some of the rest of you guys.
bustedparts 02-17-2004, 07:41 PM That sounds like a plan.I do remember the guys from r&l saying that about leavin early.I dont mind it much cuz I live so close but for the guys that have a drive and the guys that work 2nd shift will like the tighter running race.I think the time think was the ONLY complant I herd of last year.
John Warner 02-17-2004, 07:47 PM I read on the www.glrcwoor.com thread that Chad has plans to remove all the grass areas from the track, and put down a new mixture of dirt so that track layout changes can easily be made without moving the actual racing surface. Only the lane dividers will have to be moved. He's also decided on a different substance that won't "rut" like the material we used last season.
Nolan31 02-18-2004, 02:11 PM Is any going over to that Dirt Burner race on Sunday Feb 22 for indoor nitro racing? I called the place racing starts at noon and it costs 15 for 1/10th truck, 20 for 1/8th buggy, and 20 for Monster trucks. If any one whats to go we could meet somewhere and travel over together.
NITROMAGNATIC 02-19-2004, 10:13 AM Off road is cool but that is why, I guess this is why this was started, maybee we should start a new 2004 onroad thread and go from there, and i suppose that the first step is to find a place where on road is going to call home?
later
Phat Dakota 02-19-2004, 02:26 PM Sooooo, word around the beer keg is that there could be a dirt oval track to go along with the new, bigger, and easier to change off-road track.
Is this true, and if so what classes would be ran, how big would the track be, what kind of surface would it be (hardpacked clay would be ideal for dirt oval). and the big question is who is interested in running? I have a 1/10th electric direct drive full caged sprint car and late model car collecting dust right now.

and john that means that you get there on time and not late if you are then you should have to pay for all of us :jest:
Cooter 02-20-2004, 09:20 PM and john that means that you get there on time and not late if you are then you should have to pay for all of us :jest:
That works for me thats one way for me to save some coin

Hey Rich what up dude, Im planing on getting the newly released ofna hyper7 PCR edition its very reasonably priced and it comes with everything ya need and it s pretty sweet.
bustedparts 02-20-2004, 10:41 PM Well I though about it and (do you rember the hyper 8 port race motor I had last year?) I herd that the starter boxes are very weak but the buggy is pretty nice.I would but it and gut it.I would like a mbx5 but that's to much bling for me :dude: .I have been thinking about the gs storm unlimited truck. But there wasnt much of that class last year.I am going to be buying a nice motor, not sure on a os or a rb.They are close in price but you can get parts for the one alot faster.

Rich,
If you want to be able to have parts cheap and fast for the car too, I will then recommand you buy an OFNA. There is plenty of parts NIB on ebay for cheap... I think cooter's choice is clever.
I personnaly went to Kyosho, because that's a car I wanted since 10 years (Well, I'm from Europe, and over there that's the car of your dream, or at least mine  ...).
I'm sure the Mugen MBX5 is a great car too. Dave Walton just got one... We'll see how he's doing with it this coming season.
I will say whatever car you get, you can do great and have a lot of fun... Again, the Hyper 7 pbs looks nice, and it's loaded... Can't beat that price. Now, if you have 600+ to buy a new Kyosho or Mugen, well go for it...
I hope we will have a lot of fun and competition this coming year. So get them ready guys and see you soon for some big air action...
FYI, I'm waiting for my piston and sleeve for my OS to show up in my mailbox, and then I think my car is ready to rip after that. We'll see...
It's gonna be fun for sure.
So let's see who is in for the 8th scale class :
Chad (of course...)
Mike Champ
Dave Walton
Cooter (aka Tim)
Noland
Rich
Jason Swint
Cliff ?
Josh ? (Are you still alive man?)
...
Please complete if you plan to race at WOOR...
Cooter 02-21-2004, 07:12 PM Hey Mike the hyper 7 pbs is the pcr it just has the addition of both servos lay down for a lower c/g and the throttle/break uses a bellcrank to get the job done
Cooter 02-21-2004, 07:28 PM And then add one a these bad boys and theres no way any little WS-7 is guna pull me down the straight HEHEHEHEHE :jest:

ev2fast 02-21-2004, 07:33 PM Glad to see that all of you have made it through winter this far, only a little while longer to go :D I can't wait to get off this blue groove and get somthing dirty with real DIRT!
bustedparts 02-21-2004, 08:26 PM I think thats cheatin! But it is a good high $ motor alternitive! .I had thet hyper 7 pro last year and it seemed to handle well.I rember last year that I put a spankin on a couple of mbx5's that were runnin s7's in them.I am pretty sure that those guys didnt know how to driveum. That hyper is sounding better every time I hear it.That k2 or k3 is a bit rich for my blood.I am still trying to fix the mfe that I had bought used and it turned out to be a pos. What ever I am going to run this year is going to be brand new!

CHEATIN!!!!!! How cool is that guna be ta hear one of the ground pounders grab second gear goin do the str8 away that is guna be awesome, oh yea baby
groundhogg 02-22-2004, 12:30 PM Cooter,
Who makes that 2-speed?
Cooter 02-22-2004, 02:25 PM Cooter,
Who makes that 2-speed?
It is made by ofna for the hyper 7s. I dont know if it will fit anything else or if someone else makes one for other applications You can probably get more info off ofna.com
Restricted_GT 02-22-2004, 08:26 PM Two speed?? yadda yadda okies ya can run your two speed, I prolly will leave my RB ws-7 in the box and use a new secret motor thats rated a conservativly 3 horse. OOhhhh yeah its on this summer. I did a preliminary check on the loader and it runs!!!! (wheeew) :p So track work will be on as soon as the snow is gone. Frenchy, its going to be nice having another kyosho in the pack.
Restricted_GT 02-22-2004, 08:49 PM Yes Andy, I am strongly considering a clay oval as an addition to WOOR.
I also have a few oval cars sitting on the shelf collecting dust. Im guessing 10th electric and nitro but classes im not sure yet since I need to find out what everyone has or is willing to go get.So far I have the idea of a huge bowl in the ground behind the drivers stand with a few water tiles under the track to take the water away. As for how big?? I'm thinking somwere around 60 ft straights with one of them having a dogleg in it. I also think that a huge track pulls alot of the closness away from oval racing . any and all addvice on the WOOR prodjects will be helpfull.
Restricted_GT 02-22-2004, 10:50 PM aaaawwww man its cool starting over on the thread but it sucks loosing the impressive # we had going in a short time. :( maybe we should support Josh's time a lil huh? (ducks down expecting somthing to go flying by) since I havnt been on in a long time.

Do you even remember how to access that site?? :jest:
Restricted_GT 02-23-2004, 06:40 PM Well I do recall sitting up one nite and it took me about 12 beers and countless lil scraps of paper sifting to finnaly get in there.

I can only imagine!! :drunk:
Fast Guy 02-23-2004, 09:13 PM I would love too race a dirt oval again. I used to race at a track in Clio, had a blast when it was open. I personally would like to run nitro in a 1/10 sprint car.

Well hopefully you'll have the chance if things go the way I hope they do!!
Restricted_GT 02-23-2004, 09:41 PM I think a 10th scale nitro sprint car class would be sweet!!!!!! There are two classes I can run with the cars I have. One class in 10th scale mod with a late model car.The other is 10th scale nitro sprint.
Phat Dakota 02-24-2004, 10:01 AM Hey Chad, if you want some good ideas for layout options and jump sizes take a look HERE (http://www.tiltyard.com/proracepix.htm) . These are pics of the Tiltyard in Va. Probably one of the best tracks in the northeast U.S.

Yep, that looks great.
I think the good things about it are :
Pit stop right in front of the driver stand
Wide track
Soup bowl looks in great shape and are diversified (sometimes small sometime huge...)
Lots of jumps and whoops...
Maybe a little too long for 1/10th scale though...
Chad, we can take the good idea and built a place as great as this one, so your track will be one of the nicest in the northeast US too...
bustedparts 02-24-2004, 12:29 PM I am so lovin that dirt.No rakin only sweepin.NIce big track to steach your legs out.Even for the 10th scale nitro.A little much for eletric but summer is ment for nitro!
John Warner 02-24-2004, 04:18 PM A little much for eletric but summer is meant for nitro!
I disagree, and I'm sure so do the racers that would like to race electric off-road at GLRC/WOOR this summer. Are you suggesting we ignore the electric crowd??? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that everytime theres a MARS race, about 300 to 400 racers show up, and NONE of them are nitro!

I agree with you john.
I think there should be a slightly smaller track with different jumps at WOOR made to race electric off-road. We need to built a track so we can at least make 18 to 20 laps with an electric truck/buggy/E-maxx/XXX4/...
Summer is for nitro when you have one, but I think we should not forget the electric guys... I do prefer nitro though, but it is my personal preference... Electric truck (mod) was FUN too last year.
Let's make everybody happy and run both on slightly different tracks...
Just my $0.02, which of course don't mean much... But well, I though I can share that with you guys...
What do you guys think?
John? Chad?
Mike
hankster 02-24-2004, 06:36 PM In electric, 30 seconds laps are about perfect... that is what the vast majority of MARS tracks shoot for. 20 laps is just too many... might as well be racing indoors at R&L.
bustedparts 02-24-2004, 06:40 PM Dont get me wrong. It was fun for mod at the track.I am planing on putting my eletric stuff away. But If I get called out for a challange I have no problem racin eletric off road!
John Warner 02-24-2004, 06:43 PM Gentleman, in case you haven't noticed, I've listed a poll on the top of this thread, please make your choice. We'd really appreciate it!! (only one vote per person) The poll will run for 30 days and is there to help us decide some of the things we'll have to offer for this seasons upcoming venue.
Cooter 02-24-2004, 09:35 PM :)

You're probably right Hankster. First I though I could try starting around the 18/20 laps to have a trade off around 14 or 15 laps at the end. Lol
I do think though that it will be more interesting to have a little more laps that what we did last year, to try to reward consistent driving.
My point is that if you screw up at a certain spot everytime because you don't know how to manage it, you might still be OK because the track is so huge that you might come back into the game even if you don't know how to drive in that spot (or just because you have a big motor...).
I think a track shooting for a TQ at 14 laps will be good. Just a though of a less-than-1-year-in-RC-racing rookie...
Mike Champ 02-24-2004, 10:15 PM John,
Is Josh going to regularly update the website this season ?
I mean like every week after the races and post pics/video/results/events...
We need a good and updated web site if we want other people to know how great is the track...
Mike
bustedparts 02-24-2004, 10:41 PM Yha where has the cadilac man been?Same with the clampit?I havent herd from them in a while.I think the track size is good.We just need a more managable surface. You run the 1/8th scale nitro last and the track is distroyed for the eletric class. You have to water down the track and make a mud slick for the eletric guys.If we didnt have to do that we would have a happier eletric class and would have more consistant racing cuz you dont have to constantly change your set up for hard pack and loam. Some people can change with in a moments notice.I for one cant yet.But it was still fun!If we could find some free clay that would be sweet!!!
John Warner 02-24-2004, 10:51 PM I don't know about Josh, I haven't seen or heard from him. But, I can always do the updates complete with pictures if he doesn't want to.
I talked to "Buddy Clampett" tonight, and he says he intends to race again this season. The only thing is his car is in the same condition as it was at the end of his season, complete with blown motor and all!!
John Warner 02-25-2004, 04:39 PM NEWSFLASH!!.....
William will be restocking the hobby shop this Thursday!
WarpWind 02-25-2004, 05:03 PM We just need a more managable surface. You run the 1/8th scale nitro last and the track is distroyed for the eletric class.
Don't worry about us electric guys. We know full well what 1/8th scales do to tracks. The biggest problem comes when track conditions continue to change. I can deal with the ruts that the big buggies leave. Just run the track as it is. It's offroad! Heck, I wouldn't even mind just running on grass all season. It would make for an interesting surface after a week or so.....
And as for the size of the track, go BIG! Thats what Mods are made for. With a larger track and softer surface, there's no really good reason to run stock other than for the beginner.
Dave Walton 02-25-2004, 05:28 PM Bill you need to run a 1/8 buggy. That is where its at.
