Yea I am here Jake. As for my pan car I don't know what was up with it I had a new motor and a new pack. The pack was 1.14+ and was charged too. The only thing I didn't change was the ESC. I know it wasn't because of us Running 4 cell either. I just should have practiced with it instead of screwing around but that is what I normally do. I will try and make it down and race with you soon.

I am not sure what i wil be doing anytime soon. I called my wife on the cell Phone when I left and found out that her mother got ran over by one of teh tractors on her farm and got messed up pretty bad. I have been going to Petoskey Hospital most of this week and will have to help out at her house with the chores and stuff like that. She is doing as well as expected she is taking morphine and other pain medicence and it is not helping that much. Shew will be in for 3 weeks atleast.
After another week I will know more but till than take it easy and hope to see everybody soon

Wow, well our thoughts are with you and hoping she makes a fast recovery!

As for the 4-cell thing, I will be honest. I didn't like it. Mostly becasue I'm not used to it. I can't wait to try and run 6-cell pan car, should be much more fun!

Hope everything else is going good.

Mel,
Here is the scoop. I picked up a 115 tooh spur and a 26 tooh pinion in 64 pitch today. With a tuned MVP will that be a good place to start? I will be running full size (not cut down) tires on the track here in Mount Pleasant. Told Jon that I saw you guys and he wanted me to make sure that you know Mount Pleasants dates. I told him that you would not be at the first race the 27th is this still correct?

As for the gearing, is this a good place to start or not? I can take the pinion back and go bigger or smaller. I don't know if you know Jay Mowl or not, but he said to go with a 115/24 or 25. But hedoesn't run an MVP either. It will be a Pro Match MVP, with some of Big Jims new tribo drops which are supposed to help w/ torque and run cooler, which is why I went one tooth higher than Jay said. Whats your opinion? Thanks!
Jake

PS Do Keith or Greg ever come here to the boards?

Hey Guys Casey hope things are looking up for your family. Not alot to do at the Petosky Hospital. I spent a few days there with my brother inlaw back in July. We were comming back from your neck of the woods and he had a heart attack and that is where he ended up. They do have a computer that you can use and get on the internet with. You can set up a hotmail account that allows you to e-mail. I think the computer is on the 1st floor but I do know it is in a lounge.
Hey jake I would go with the 115-25. Even with the MVP. Most of us at Mt.Pleasant would run at 1.70 ratio. Get your self a cheap pair of calipers so you can measure the tire. Then you can use a calculator to figure your gearing.
Example - 2.50 tire size X Pi or 3.14 X 25 your pinion divided by 115 your spur = 1.70.
The smaller the tire gets the larger the pinion will have to be to keep at 1.70. Think you got it or did I do a good job of confusing you? 2.50 X 3.14 X 25 / 115 = 1.70
No Keith and Greg don't use the internet they're better with there cars than with the internet. It is hard to beat them two.
As the speed goes up what was a good car will start to go to pot. They say loose is fast if you can drive it. You want to get that car to turn with as little of dual rate as possible.
Jackson this weekend and Larry's the next two Sat. after that. Four cell stock and Busch. Later Boys

rowle1jt
10-18-2001, 11:25 PM
With as little dual rate as possible, so you mean more wheel travel on the tx = less wheel travel in car right? I do need to turn the dr's down, I think that would help.

As for gearing, yeah, I do understand the role out formula, might wirte a program for my calculator so I can input the specs and have it spit out gear ratio! Wow, I really am lazy!
Thanks Mel!
Jake

mel
10-19-2001, 11:35 AM
Jake You want both. Low dual rate and front wheel steering. The less steering you have to get around the corner the faster you will be.

Mel, took the car out for a drive with 6 cells, wow, it had punch! Guess that I'm just not used to running 4 cell. I'd like to try and make it back up to the Soo again this winter, race stock truck, maybe pan car or Legend if I can find enough people.

Hey scott, you guys comin this way this weekend? Just wondering if we will be running pancars or not this weekend.
Hope you can make it up again Jake. sorry you don't like the four cell thing but from what I've been told mt. pleasant traverse city and escanaba is the only places in the state that still run six cell. much cheaper in all aspects of oval racing to run 4-cell.
Tire wear is practically nothing not to mention the motors hardly heat up with only 4 cells pushing them around the track.
hope to see everyone back soon take care and good luck at your race this weekend jake.

Joel,
I don't mean to bad-mouth 4 cell by any means. I was just getting frustrated because I had no experience with it. I agree, it is cheaper and easier on equipment, but I missed the punch of 6 cell. That or maybe I just need some better batteries. http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/smile.gif

Hey Guys.Cant make it this weekend Joel.Maybe the next one if money permits. The 4 cell isn't bad if you can figure out the gearing or like me who didn't have gears big enough. In six cell we never needed pinions in the high thirties. With the right gearing on hand it would have been easier to keep up to you faster guys.I do have to admit that my car was so easy to control with four cells that it seemed like a whole different car.All in all we had a GREAT time in the soo and we look forward to doing four cell there again.See you guys soon.

I raced at Larry's this past Sat. They ran 4 cell stock and Busch.
They are having a big money race on Nov.3.
You can still race without paying the extra money. There will be some pretty hot racers there. Some from out of state.
I will be racing there this Sat.
Larry's is located in Sterling Heights off M59.
I Plan on going to Mt.Pleasant in Nov.

Mel (and other woods drivers) I got a question for you. http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/smile.gif

I have a chance to pick an X-13 up from George, he is giving me a very fair price, just wondering how much harder they are to drive and set up? It appears to be in very good condition. I don't really know that much about Woods cars except that they are fast and that is what a lot of people drive. Are they dificult to set up? How is parts availbilty? There are a few photos at my photopoint account.

Hey Jake A woods car is no different in setting up than a L30. The t-bar on the X13 is its weak spot. You can still pick them up at a decent price. The car was designed for flat tracks so hang them batteries out all tha way. Also just about everything from an L30 can be used on the X13 except for some of the graphite. Later Mel

Jake Jackson College is a one day race on Sunday. They have an open practice on Sat.
Doors open at 7:00am on Sunday and the doors open at 5:00pm on Sat. unless you want to help setup the track then you can get in around 2:00pm. Wood Racing may be there this weekend. If you have directions then turn left into College parking lot then left at the first drive then right into a huge parking lot and the field house will be at the end of the lot. Its expressway almost all the way.

Hey Joel Got the 15. There were 14 heats at Jackson College and everyone was on the road by 4:30pm. Attendance is down some but all the classes were able to run.
I ran Busch and six cell stock finishing second in both. They give out hand towels to the first (blue) second (red) and third (white) which I think is a nice touch and different. These aren't towels you would want to use as tire towels.
A few of us are talking about going to Traverse City on the first of Dec. We will be at Mt.Pleasant this Sat.

Mel, I thought the towel idea was pretty cool too. http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/smile.gif Going to a race like Jackson really shows me how small of a "race track" I am from. Scales, tech, more than $10 entry fee.....all that was new to me! Oh well, I enjoyed it. Hopefully I'll get the TC3 that I want for christmas, from Santa of course, and will be able to race touring car down there. Don't get me wrong, pan car is fun, but it is more fun when your competitive, and at this point, I need practice before I could even think of running with all you guys! http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/wink.gif

Joel, What are you doing this weekend? You should come on down to Mount Pleasant for the race on Saturday. Usually 8-10 heats, and people are packed up gone about 5-530. You could be home way before 10! You should come down, and bring the rest of them Yoopers with ya!

Well guys I got some bad news. http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/frown.gif

Wednsday night I was in my appartment, cutting a frozen bagel (I don't want to hear it!) I had it on the counter, well the knife slipped and I cut the palm of my hand. Not real deep, but bad enough to do some damage none-the-less. Doctors think I may have cut a tendon or a muscle, which has caused me to lose some strength in my pinkie finger (left hand. thank god I am right handed!) and almost all of my lateral strength in that finger, the ability to pull my pinkie back in next to the rest of my fingers. Not good. http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/frown.gif I have already re-gained a slight amount of the strength back, which is good. I have an appointment monday to see another doctor about it, they said that most of the strength should come back as it heals. Only time will tell though. If he thinks I need it, I may need some surgery to get the tendons/muscle fixed. I'm trying to keep in good spirits about it, it is in a splint to keep me from doing anything with it. Two BIG nasty looking stitches and an hour later I went home.

George, I will be in your neck of the woods tonight till sunday, sorry I wont be racing. I really did want to show you what an old Woods car could do!

Mel, good luck to you and your crew in MP saturday, I really wish I could be there, looks like I will be done racing for about 4 weeks, six plus if I need surgery. http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/mad.gif

It's fairly nasty looking, but if you shoot me an e-mail, I'll send ya pic of it. http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/smile.gif

Dang Jake Good thing you are in College. Maybe you will make a little more money and move up to softer bagel's or maybe even get a wife who will do those kind of things for you cause I see that you are not very good at it. Oh well S^%& happens we learn from it and move on. Hope it heals well and maybe see you at Jackson College next month.

Just so you a know, I'm still alive, and back to using two hands. http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/smile.gif No surgery, Doctor almost laughed at me, he said the ER doctor made it out to be nuch worse then it really was, and sent me to this specialist to cover his own @$$. Do you know what the #1 cause of hand lacerations (read: cuts) in America is? CUTTING BAGELS!!! So enough jokes George! LoL I already know that I am getting about 3 bagel cutters for Christmas. Should be racing in two weeks, that makes me happy. I don't have full use of pinky yet. Still have very little strength, and almost no side-to-side yet, but the specialist said that all of that will come back as it heals.

And Mel, what is the date of the race in Jackson again? I have a TC3 coming and would like to try touring car. It's an early X-Mas present (from santa!) that I have to give back to him the 23rd (day after MP race) so he can wrap and get it under the tree. http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/smile.gif
