JACO and TRC foams are not the same rubber. From what I've been told they act very similar, but I have only run JACO's for the past 6 years. Hope this helps...

Eli - I plan on it, but I have a TON to get ready before the birds. The ride sits ready to roll and I have some different things I'd like to test.

I am also going to MI next week to race w/Josh, Walt and the rest of the MI guys. Should be a GREAT race with lots of fast guys!!! Are you going?

Moe- i would start out with a green RF standard rate, red LF standard, both with the long WOLFE kingpins, red LR spring and a gold RR, if your running stock and its real smooth you can probably run a Orange linear HPI spring. if you have questions at a race that im you shouldnt have any resrvations about coming up to me and asking me..my sponsors bring me there to help everyone and to race..this last sentence applies to everyone.

FLAG. nice to hear from you danny...thanks for the good words..hope to see you up north after the snowbirds.

teampowerpush- i would run the macattack because of the longer wheelbase...not really sure about setup because i havent been up there since they have changed that track.

RacingStorm- if your running on a flat oval you actually want reverse stagger in your car...it makes the car turn much harder than without it...you want to have reverse in both front and rear.

JBRACER- whites and grays are the same type of foam but the black from JACO is completely different than any other company on the market...ive never run the TRC black but i do know the JACO black is an incredible tire.

Brian,

I have a XCS and I am wondering if you have had a chance to get a good set up for a flat oval track. the car is close but it is trying to brake loose coming out of the corners and if it does not brake loose it is trying to push to the wall. So if you could let me know what a good set up for the car is.

thank you

Brian talking center springs, on a flat ozite 100 foot and up track what spring would you suggest for a .075 fiberglass t-bar solid and then for a .032 double slotted t-bar? I am running a HPI center shock and am wondering about the HPI centerspring. Thanks:confused:

Brian,
I am going to the Snowbirds for the first time this year,
and was wondering if you can help me on setup for 19T Mod.
I run a Leading Edge Terminator Pro. I need suggestions as far as
tires, front springs, rear springs, maybe battery tray location.
I run a stock Associated center shock, Raceway caster blocks,
TRC double slot spring-steel T-plate. Also, what oils, and tire
sizes? I also run high down-force M/C body. Thanks in advance
for any help you can provide!!! Are you going to Snowbirds??

Thanks,

chuck47- i would probably run the HPI linear ornage spring with the spring steel t-bar..with the fiberglass you might to lighten the oil by 10wt and go 1 step stiffer on the spring which is a linear yellow.

hacksaw- thanks alot..see ya at the birds.

XXX-fan- if you go back in some of the posts you will find the exact setup in ran last year at the snowbirds..its a pretty aggressive setup so you might have to back it off just a bit.

teampowerpush- i washed the tires with your basic dish washing liquid and water..nothing fancy but the dish soap will break down the chemicals of the traction compound but not affect the the tire at all..doing just makes the tires like they are when new..no traction compound built up in them to make the car more efficient.

I need help with a decision. I don't race oval every week, maybe once or twice a month. I'd like a newer car. I torn between two, Should i buy the RC10L4, or Should i purchase a used RC10l3(that I've found for $75.00? The L4 is new, The L3 has been around lots of people could help with setup. I'm undecided which way to go? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

RCracer- either way you will be fine..if you want to save some money buy the used because it is completely upgradeable to the new L4 specs..my advice is just practice and have fun...dont worry about the latest and greatest especially if your only doing every now and again.

I've got one of the new 0700 EASE and am racing on 2 tracks.

Track 1 - Ozite carpet, 80 ft run line, 41 x 32 outside square dimensions. 10.5 ft wide lanes 10ft wide infield, 4 cell stock (P2K, HD MC body.

Track 2 - Outdoor Asphalt, Oval is 410ft centerline, 24ft wide, banked asphalt superspeedway 4 cell spec, spec motor, spec tires, open gear, open brush, HD MC body

Ride height is one thing I haven't seen mentioned, sure would like some ideas on that added to the shock, oil, spring info. particularly for the outdoor so I don't scuff up the bottom unnecessarly.

Thanks in advance for any info. I have learned a lot from this thread already.

it out and refill?

Depends on how much dampning you want,I use trinities dampning lube it comes in different thickness.I usually redo my dampening tubes every week when using them.I've found that I like shocks better ususally.

Brian,
I have been reading this thread over & over and I start to get confused at about page 20 trying to pick out your stock info from the mod setups. So, I have jumped to the end just to ask a basic question regarding component (ESC, receiver, transponder, extra weight, etc.) arrangement on the chassis. I know you prefer your batteries to be as far forward as possible but what about the rest of this stuff? Should one running stock have all of this stuff on one side (left) and as far forward as possible or is there some cornering advantage by balancing this weight between the axles? Thanks in advance.

I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT BRUSHES. I AM SURE THE ANSWER IS IN HERE SOMEWHERE BUT WITH 60 PAGES TO GO THRU.
ANYWAY, I RUN STOCK MOTORS MVP, GM, P2K2 SHOULD I BE BE RESERRATING THE BRUSHES AFTER EACH RACE? ALSO WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE SLOT CUT ACROSS THE BRUSH?

Brian Burkhart
01-20-2003, 02:18 PM
Bman- i would the standard setup that i have posted here with the excption of softening the front springs one step to a white RF and a red LF..i dont really race concrete so i wouldnt be alot of help on that subject..as far as ride height goes i run the legal limit in the front usually around 5mm and i run 5.5-6.0mm in the back...when you put rake in the car it helps the car steer a little more...not scuffing the bottom of your chassis running outdoors is almost impossible unless you really jack it way up.

OffCenter- i havent run dampening tubes in a long time but when i did i ran a mixture of trinity red stuf and trinity purple stuff.

Xpressman- lighter fluid can attack the makeup of the tire and satrt to break it down therefore softening the tire..dishsoap will just wash out the junk and make the tire like new.

dazzler- id probably run a protoform pontiac #1219

Bigdog- i wouldnt mind going to it but id hate to say yes and not make..keep me informed as it gets closer and ill see how my schedule looks.

Go4it- i run my receiver up in front of the battery on flat tracks and behind the servo on banked tracks..in front of the pack makes the car turn a bit more..i always run my speed control in the traditional position on the right corner of the chassis but it is slid in a little closer to the t-bar...ive never tried my speed control behind the pack but for stock i cant really imagine that being much help.

Budget- i dont really think reserrating the brushes is necessary after every run...most stock motors get to a point where they are happy and you shouldnt do much more than cut the comm and clean the brush with a stick...the cut across gives the motor a bit more RPM i think..i havent run stock in a while and when i usually do i my motors arent very good so i rely on my car to pull them around...im definetly not a stock motor wizard by any means.

Brian,
Again thanks for your time and info. I’ve been running an indoor, flat carpet track (Thunder Road) in Virginia with about a 30-ft straightaway, 7-Ft infield and 6-Ft track width. My L3O is pretty much stock. I have been getting some 3.9-sec. Laps. I thought by moving some component weight inside might help speed my lap times. What would be an easy way to knock off a tenth of a second from my lap times just looking at weight placement, cross weight % and side to side %, front to back, amount of tweak? Thanks in advance . . .

Brian, havnt had time to read this lately, and Im sure that its mentiond somewhere in here, but what is a good starting point for a 10L30 with the factory team 4 cell conversion for a flat carpet oval (built close to Snowbird specs).

Its been a few years since Ive run carpet oval competitively, so any help is appreciated. Thanks

Burkie...Whats a good all-weather tire for a rental mini-van for the Snowbirds. I rode in one last year that pushed like a dumptruck off the turns, esp exit ramps in Disney. Stick with the same van or move the bigger passengers to the front seat?

Seriously though nice thread.

Arnie, we used to put Fiume in the shotgun and this worked (although she did pull to the right under hard braking). Now,however, he probably weighs less than me so we will have to recruit some larger drivers or put a pair of double purples on the front.

Brian Burkhart
01-21-2003, 11:19 AM
ovalnator- the setup i used last year which i have posted somewher in here a couple different times was the same setup that i ran when i ran my associated car the first year...its a good basic setup that transfers well to other cars.

Arnie- i think we are going to go with a bit softer compound this year with a little deeper sipes so the rain will wash off the tire more thus causing less push.

What determines when you need to step up on side shock spring rate?
And when you adjust the right side for proper tweek ,You adjust the left somewhat the same amount to have equal spring tension?
Thanks in advance

Brian, I run an HPI center shock and was told that Losi shock pistons will work in it (which i have a lot of). Was wondering if you, or anyone else for that matter, knew which losi piston was the closest to the HPI #2 piston everyone talks about using on this thread.

Thanks, Wilson

One more question Brian,
I got the TRC double slot t-plate (6263)for my ADX. When i went to put it on it is only a two hole mount to rear pod. What is the method of installing on an associated rear pod? Will it end up offset or did i just get the wrong plate?

Thanks, Wilson

The one you want is part #6300 it is for the associated style pod.

Brian, back in the days when green and blue compound tires were pretty much it for carpet racing, (10+ years ago) I remember the very serious racers cutting down tires on a tire lathe until there was very little rubber left - maybe an 1/8th of an inch, or so(?) The idea was to decrease the rolling resistance, and gain more straightaway speed, and some people said it helped their cars handle more consistently in the turns, because of less "sponginess" from the tires.

Is this still common practice? I haven't seen anyone doing it lately, but I was at a race recently where I saw tires on other cars that looked like this. I didn't ask whether they had just been worn down to that point, or cut. From what I've seen you say on this post, especially with the Jaco black compound, I'm guessing this isn't necessary? What about with a softer compound like a white or pink?

Anyone besides Brian care to share their thoughts on this?

marig
01-27-2003, 12:18 AM
Another, separate tire question - I recently purchased some Jaco black fronts from a mail-order company, and when I took them out of the package and put them on my car, when I spun them, I noticed they wobbled back and forth quite a bit. (wobbling left to right, as viewed from above) I looked closely, and it seemed as though the wheel itself was OK, but the rubber was off a bit. It was as if the tires were trued at the factory, and them somehow the glue wasn't quite dry, and allowed one part of the tire to shift over, or something.

Anyway, to make a long story short, I saw this in three different sets of these tires from two different sources, and was wondering if this is something common, or did I just happen upon a bad batch somehow? I ended up running the pair like they were, just to give you an idea that they weren't wobbling that bad, but still, much more than I would have expected. I guess they would be just fine after a session on the tire truer, but it just seemed kinda strange...

Brian Burkhart
01-27-2003, 10:32 AM
RCMotor- side spring tension is pretty much determined by how you like to drive a car more so than by the track..especially on flat tracks..the stiffer the side spring you run the more aggressive the car will feel on the wheel..i run pretty stiff because i like my cars very sensitive...when i do adjust a spring if im making a very small adjustment i only use one side..if its a bigger adjustment i use both to keep spring tension pretty close.

Nitrohead- ive only used the HPI pistons so im not really sure about the losi ones.

marig- most people still do true their tires down but not that far...when a tire comes out of the package it is 2.40 in diameter...i true all my tires down to 2.23 to race on and stop using them at about 2.15...this more helps the car in the corners with less sidewall movement so the car stays more stable...with the black front you were more than likely actually witnessing the wheel being slightly out of round...this has been a small problem and the guys at JACO are addressing it with a new wheel that we should have at the snowbirds.
