he's asking if a chassis can wear out and how long. he meant "after i race my battery for awhile it gets weaker. does a chassis do the same thing?...get weaker after time? and if so how long does that take?"

ahh gotcha...well the answer to that is yes and no...usually a car will get slower not because its getting worn out but the track is changing...parts on your car can wear out and they need to be replaced but its after many many runs...just keep up with your regular maintenance as far as cleaning and inspecting parts and change them as needed...usually the biggest reason that you would run just a ton of laps is for YOUR practice..your not really worrying about the car that much as you are your driving line and staying consistent.

Brian just wondering what batteries for open mod you would suggest. SANYO, PANASONIC, 3000 3300? What kind of numbers to be competitive?

i think brian alot of people are wondering why masami had that silver covering on his chassis. car action said it was to prevent the graphite from breaking down from the sun? bunch of bs if you ask me..but it looked trick.

typically a uv protective GEL Coat is used. this is VERy expensive but HIGHLY effective at preventing weakening of the graphite when used outdoors.

when a uv gel coat is used it is a UNIFORM coating and therfore doesnt have the pattern that masami's chassis had.

this would indicate that it was in the outer layer(s) of the panel, and was most likely two layers of some different type of cloth. this would most likely be cheaper than a uv gel coat, on a per roll basis. (a roll being MASSIVE amounts of cloth).

most likely yokomo's graphiet supplier let them get in on the end of a roll of someone ELSES graphite.

MANY VERY cool thigns can be done if you are willing to purchase whole rolls and have (or do it yourself) it layed up. Or you can wait around until someone ELSE pays and get their leftovers!

another possibility though EXTREMELY expensive is for the silver to actually be metal filaments woven into the graphite cloth. this would also provide emi shielding (if it was used to enclose something (which is the probable purpose for such a weave)) and also possibly better radio reception (due to in essence a ground plane below a vertical omnidirectional antenna).

yeah now you know what it COULD be. YOU MAKE THE CALL!

MikeM- with the advent of the new GoldPeak 3300's id have to say that they will be the way to go in open mod...i dont think they will make a difference in stock or 19t but you will almost certainly need them to be competitive in open mod.

katfish- i think kgb explained it pretty well...i would have just they did it to make people ask questions and raise some eyebrows..so his answer was probably the better of the two.

Brian, I have noticed that some racers use different size spacers under the stearing blocks. Some times on the left side and also on the right side. What is the effect of the spacers and when do you to have more on one left or right side?

Brian Burkhart

larry b- ive never seen spacers used under the steering blocks but we use them on top of them..using different amounts on top alters the upper arm angle...the more angle that arm has the aggressive the car will steer...i usually run as much angle as i can on the right front and keep the left front as low and as flat as possible.

MIKE VALENTINE
09-12-2002, 02:35 PM
brian the spacer is used to adjust chassis height left to right of the front end. if you don't have the right size tire to keep the front, left to right chassis height were you want it, you can just add spacers or shims thin stuff to adjust for the wrong size tire.

hi brian i'm having trouble charging my receiver pack do you put the switch to the on position to charge? how long should it take to charge? using aa turbo30 at .05 amps does the cut-off v. matter? should you recharge every run? what are the volts when fully charged? using a keyence do you remove the red wire from speedo? thanks

brian,

is there any differances on the track if you keep the same ratio but use smaller spur pinion combinations ?

toytowne,

I have found most of the time that if you keep the same gear ratio but make the spur gear bigger, and then make the motor gear bigger to get back to the same ratio that it will help you come out of the turns better, and give you more at the end of the straight too.
Some one correct me if I am wrong.

id38 and nunzio738 you were right, I did get there and found the set up sheet and it's still there. I tried to down load it but I guess it's too compliciated for me to get it out of this contraption, I guess I need it more easy for me to handle, I tried though. Thanks:thumbsup:

Hey Chuck,

On your computer hit the "Start" button on the bottom left corner of your screen, now using your mouse move the arrow to "Find" and then move it to the right and click on "Files or Folders". Type in Setup.pdf.
Your computer will find the file. When Setup.pdf comes up, click on it and it should automatically open for you. This is assuming that you have Adobe Acrobat loaded on your computer - this is the program that reads .pdf files. If you don't have it, you can download it off of the web for free.

Later,
Tom

Can someone please explain how the width of the rear axle affects the car?
Please correct me if I'm wrong here. The farther apart the rear wheels are, less traction. The closer they are, more traction. What happens if the LR only is moved out, or moved in?

thanx

if you move the left rear in the rear got narrower... if you move the left rear out the rear got wider. you answered your own question i think?

PHR

I have seen some cars that have the center shock mounted behind the side shocks on the upper pod plate. What does that do? Thanks.

Brian Burkhart
09-16-2002, 05:01 PM
Larry B- i dont change the front end width of my car..on flat tracks running the front end wider will make the car more stable but usually makes it a bit tighter.

toytowne- i usually charge my pack every other run in practice and every run during racing...it doesnt take long at all to charge them...i use .75 amps and .02 cutoff to help stop false peaks.

sal- moving the left rear in will help the car drive off the corner better and moving it out will loosen the car up on exit...when you adjust the left rear it affects the car coming off the corner and when you move the right rear around it affects the car coming off the corner.

rcer- moving the shock mounting point back farther changes the pivot point...ive never messed with it so im not 100% positive as to how it affects the car..id guess that when you move that pivot point back it will give you more rear traction because the point is closer to the motor.

I was a the Race Rock race Mike put together. Anyway, That little time you spent with us going over your car really payed off. I finally did all the changes and got the front end working awesome. That is the key...I broke our track record by 1 lap in open stock class the second week with this setup. Thanks again Brian, See you at the Snowbirds. Todd

Todd, that was one awesome run you had. From what I hear you spent a lot of time on that front end of yours and it definitly showed!Congratulations, and I'll be back once the 19 turn truck series is over. See ya next week!

Thanks guys! I would say it was a pretty lucky run. Everything clicked, and I stayed out of trouble. Its great racing with Steve, Hopeton, Barry, And the other guy(I will know his name soon). Its real clean racing. Curtis, You would have run a 39 if you were there. Part of it was the traction stuff Kenny sprayed down, and he spayed the whole track. Your feet stuck to the straight aways. I thought it was going to be a mess at first, but it got real fast. Im hoping when you come down i will have something for you on the track. Good luck in school, and thanks again Elvis. See ya Sunday!
