He'll get ya back, ya know.......better be watching over your shoulder! LOL erock1331 06-06-2004, 03:13 PM Nice job Dusty, he's on a roll since his nats win!! But heck, he is fast wherever he goes, and he is always willing to help a guy out. Frank Peachock up'd his track record another 2 seconds on PRS gears at Classic Hobbies last night. Nice job Frank !! Frank was the only person to ever run 42 laps at Classic on the asphalt. Myself and Ricky Liehr finally hit the mark last night with 42's as well. We were both on PRS spurs and pinions. Check em out. Tony, I have had some inquiries as to where the racers can purchase the Pro-lite spurs. Who is all carrying them? Eric H. ACE 06-07-2004, 02:12 AM Thanks Tony,,If I come back this weekend do you have an arm I can borrow??? LOL I am going to miss my good motor:( ,The gears are simply amazing!!!! Eric thanks for the kind words....you ought to come pick me up and go to Chatam this weekend,,Free room and board...My sister lives 10 minutes away!!! Dusty Dean Tornado_Racing 06-07-2004, 07:21 AM Hey Dusty, You know I can't go very long having an out of towner blasting my track record. lol We are gonna do all it takes to get that record back. Damn Ohio boyz...................lol Great run bud, and NO I do not have any motors for you. Get your own! lol lol Hey Eric, Anyone interested in PRS Pro-lite Spurs or lightweight pinions can call us direct or any of our hobbyshops. I am unsure of Brooks future plans but PRS and myself wish him the best. I would also like to thank Brooks for all of his contributions he has made in the past 6 months. He can build some spankin' horsepower in not just stock motors but in spec motors as well. Until this past weekend his motors held 2 track records at Chatham. Good luck in future ventures and we all wish you the best. 20TN40 06-07-2004, 10:41 AM Sorry to hear that Tony and Brooks. Good luck to the both of you! Tony are you coming to BMS for the July 4th weekend? Lisa Tornado_Racing 06-07-2004, 11:05 AM No, I do not think I can make it up. I need to find a driver for here at Chatham! lol 20TN40 06-07-2004, 11:18 AM Oh gosh, I can find you several really good drivers at BMS! Where do they need to send applications? LOL Now back to PRS.......ya'll have probably argued this out before, but what is the advantage/disadvantage to running smaller or larger spurs? What is recommended? BRDRACING 06-07-2004, 01:21 PM 20TN40 you have mail! 20TN40 06-07-2004, 02:03 PM I got it! Will let you know how it turns out! BRDRACING 06-07-2004, 02:04 PM Cool! Good Luck! Tornado_Racing 06-07-2004, 02:37 PM Lisa I will get back with ya on the big spur vs. little spur info. Jamie "Ray Ray" Raymer is going to wheel the car this weekend at the ARCOR NC State race. Thanks for all of the e-mails and phone calls. Still not sure about after the State race but if "Ray Ray" likes the car then the full time ride is his! BRDRACING 06-07-2004, 02:39 PM Go get'm Ray Ray! The car is fast! and should have no problem winning the state race! erock1331 06-07-2004, 02:40 PM Have PRS fly me down, I will wheel it, LOL Tornado_Racing 06-07-2004, 02:42 PM We don't have a class for the "shorty" guy. Plus we would have to build a drivers stand just for you CupCake. The railing is too tall and you would not be able to see the frontstretch! lol lol lol Beero 06-07-2004, 02:45 PM man its getting rough in here.....we'll find a milk crate for you eric erock1331 06-07-2004, 02:49 PM We don't have a class for the "shorty" guy. Plus we would have to build a drivers stand just for you CupCake. The railing is too tall and you would not be able to see the frontstretch! lol lol lol Man that is low, Hey Joel I'll be like Nicky standing on the old crate. LOL I would be out to lunch, cause Lord knows if I dont have a place to rest my radio on the stand I am out to lunch when I have to hold it up in the air. Tornado_Racing 06-07-2004, 03:06 PM Okay Lisa here is your info. I am gonna try and do this so everyone understands. Many people think "a gear is a gear". Well it's not. I will post findings and facts about a small spur and a big spur. BIG Spurs Big spurs are usually refered to as 120 and up. The taller you can get the spur to the outside diameter of the wheel the more leverage the motor has. More leverage equal a more efficient drive line. The motor does not have to work as hard to turn over a larger spur. This effect allows the motor to spin up faster, which in turns gives you more lift off the corners. Taller or bigger spurs are more efficient and create more speed off the corners. Another advantage of a taller spur, is it moves the motor away from the axle. The closer the motor is to the axle the more of a pendilum effect the rear of the car has. In relation to the nose of the car, if all of your weight is close the the axle the rear of the car swings around faster. If you move the motor closer to the t-plate this "swing" is reduced. If you run on a bumpy tight track run a taller spur. This will reduce the pendilum effect and help settle the car down and keep the rear from sliding. SMALLER spurs Smaller spurs are usually refered to as 100 and below. One advantage a smaller spur has over a bigger spur is they create more top end. The only way you will notice this is on a really big track were momentum is the key. On bigger tracks you have to run taller pinions and smaller spurs to create your top end. Once the motor hits it's peak RPM the "1 to 1" pinion and spur run more efficient at top speed. The pinion acts as a flywheel and with a spur close to it's size there is not much gear reduction making the car faster and reducing gear drag when the car reaches top speed. A smaller spur can sometimes help a car turn because of the pendilum effect. You have to be very carefull because if you go extreme the car will just slide. The best thing you can do is see what your local "hot shoes" are running and follow in their foot steps. I hope this helps and if anyone has any comments or questions feel free to post them here. 20TN40 06-07-2004, 03:16 PM That makes sense. It also explains some other things I had noticed. But where can I get a 60 tooth pinion! LOL erock1331 06-07-2004, 03:25 PM Tony, I know this has been argued to death. I have always agreed with your thinking you stated above. I agree with larger grears being more efficient. But think about this. You have 2 pan cars at a standstill, going from point A to point B. Car #1, 2.22 tires, 88 tooth spur, 30 tooth pinion = 2.43 rollout. Car #2, 2.23 tires, 132 tooth spur, 46 tooth pinion = 2.43 rollout. Wouldn't Car #1's small gears spool the motor up quicker? If so quicker spool up should equal more torque or rip off the line. Problem is we are not drag racing which brings us back to what happens in the turns. I can see how a taller gears keeps the momentum going. Tornado_Racing 06-07-2004, 03:42 PM It all has to do about leverage on the motor. The taller the spur the easier it is for a motor to turn the tire. No so much about turning the gears but it is easier to roll the tire. Theory says smaller pinions faster spin up, but you counter yourself with a smaller spur reducing your leverage. Tornado_Racing 06-07-2004, 03:53 PM Hey Lisa, As of July 1st, Chatham R/C Speedway will have the all new PRS 58, 59, and 60 tooth pinions. Chatham will be exclusive to these gears through the ARCOR Paved Oval Open. After the Open they will be available to our distributors and Hobbyshops. Chatham R/C Speedway has joined Sandhills Raceway and is now exclusive to PRS Pinions and Spurs. We are pleased to have them join the list of growing tracks and shops that support PRS products. The all new shorty pinions are on the way. These gears will allow you guys to have the lightest pinion available and not have to worry about the gear being to far out. On a Hyperdrive/KSG with no axle shims there is now room to move the pinion in and out. Stamped Spurs will be available very soon as well. The tooth number will be stamped on one side of the gear for quick and easy ID. We have listened to the racers and have come up with these all new designs and improvements. I hope to get Dwight or Judy to post some purchasing info for all of you out of towners that would like these big big big pinions. Of coarse you could come to Chatham and race, picking up some pinions while your here.................... Thanks to all of the racers, Hobbyshops, Distributors, and Teams guys for choosing PRS. 20TN40 06-07-2004, 04:14 PM LOL, I thought I was making a funny! I didn't know there was such a monster as a 60 tooth pinion. Is it available now or will it not be available until July 1? Tornado_Racing 06-07-2004, 04:15 PM July 1st, is the release date of the 58,59, and 60's................... jeepnyy 06-07-2004, 05:07 PM Any time frame for release date of "stamped spurs" ? jeepnyy 06-07-2004, 05:09 PM You have 2 pan cars at a standstill, going from point A to point B. Car #1, 2.22 tires, 88 tooth spur, 30 tooth pinion = 2.43 rollout. Car #2, 2.23 tires, 132 tooth spur, 46 tooth pinion = 2.43 rollout. How do you calculate ROLLOUT on pan/oval cars ? erock1331 06-07-2004, 05:12 PM (Tire size Times Pi) Divided by spur times pinion So say you have Tire Size 2.22 Pi = 3.14 Spur is 116 Pinion is 36 2.22 x 3.14 = 6.9708 / 116 = .060093 x 36 = 2.16 rollout erock1331 06-07-2004, 05:14 PM Do you have Microsoft Excel on your computer/laptop? If so I can send you a rollout caclulator program I created and/or a rollout chart for each spur and pinion combo possible. let me know Eric H. jeepnyy 06-07-2004, 05:28 PM Do you have Microsoft Excel on your computer/laptop? I run carpet but right now these will be for a 1080' Velo. What will I get and what do I want, the machined or the stamped spurs? :( INDY500BC Tornado_Racing 06-08-2004, 06:22 PM The stamped spurs are machined. The "stamped" is for the tooth number and all PRS products are always machined. RC4less 06-08-2004, 07:29 PM Tony, I sent you an email yesterday. Did you get it?? Let me know. Chatham will be exclusive to these gears through the ARCOR Paved Oval Open. After the Open they will be available to our distributors and Hobbyshops. Thanks to all of the racers, Hobbyshops, Distributors, and Teams guys for choosing PRS. Now I'm a little confused. For 2 1/2 months, only one hobby shop will be able to get these pinions. Why? Why can't my local hobby shop have them? No offense intended to Dwight, but aren't the rest of the hobby shops just as important? erock1331 06-09-2004, 02:12 PM Limited supply right now, maybe Tornado_Racing 06-09-2004, 03:00 PM Hey Lisa, We have worked out an agreement with Dwight and Judy at Chatham R/C for them to be exclusive to the 58, 59, and 60 tooth just until the Paved Open. These gears will be available as of July 1st for anyone who comes and races at Chatham or by mail order. Eric is correct that there will be a limited supply until early fall. After the Paved Open all distributors and Hobbyshops will be able to order these gears as we will have plenty in stock. 20TN40 06-09-2004, 03:17 PM  Oh well. jeepnyy 06-09-2004, 03:29 PM Hey Lisa, We have worked out an agreement with Dwight and Judy at Chatham R/C for them to be exclusive to the 58, 59, and 60 tooth just until the Paved Open. Tornado_Racing 06-09-2004, 03:33 PM Anyone interested in the big pinions can drop Dwight an e-mail or give them a call at the track.
