View Full Version : Worn Chassis
fordcowboy 12-07-2003, 11:26 PM I'm looking for some old AFX, Tjet, & Tyco chassis with some wear & tear to
them. Such as burnt holes where the brushes go; chassis broken where rear
axel goes.
Anybody have some for sale - cheap?
Thanks,
Fordcowboy
I have lots of AFX and Tjet used chassis, none with the damage your looking for ( all are in good usable shape) but if you want them I will sell you as many as you want for a buck apiece.
ps , either post here or send me email to mikpiz@iwon.com I never get email if it's sent through the link.
fordcowboy 12-10-2003, 08:30 PM The reason I wanted old ones w/ burnt holes in them is b/c I have a plastic welder & I wanted to try it on the chassis.
Thanks,
Fordcowboy
EBasil 12-11-2003, 06:58 PM I had something like that as a kid. I would chuck up a "bit" into a rotary tool and then the friction from spinning it against the plastic to be joined would build heat and let me lay beads of molten plastic (or burn holes and make clumps). This was a toy, and when I ran out of material and bits, it was all over.
How's yours work?
fordcowboy 12-11-2003, 08:02 PM I bought mine at Harbor Freight for about $40.00:
www.harborfreight.com
It's a "Plastic Welding Kit" item#41592-orva.

triple20 01-03-2004, 05:54 PM So have you tried your plastic welder yet?
I'm curious because I would like to copy an idea I've seen elsewhere.
if you've used it,would it be possible to plastic weld a gear plate together that has been cut in half width wise?
:)
elcamino 01-04-2004, 05:31 AM Hey triple20, Are you going to try a 4 wheel drive slot car chassis? I saw that too. Those are awesome!

Yup,great guess, you hit the nail smack dab on the head,I have a couple of these I picked up a while ago but they are a little on the primative side,I'd like to try and improve on a good idea.
I seem to have a thing for the strange and unusual, not seen to often type of things, now if I can ever figure out how to get my xcellerator conversions to run I'd be a happy camper...I have 3 of those things and can't get any of them to run...Doh!

elcamino 01-05-2004, 05:22 AM Yes, strange is definitely cool! I can't think of a single good reason to have a 4 wheel drive AFX chassis, but I need one bad.
jeremy1082 02-26-2005, 12:47 PM I have built a few of those AFX 4 wheel drives using G-Plus chassis. They run great but they do not do make a whole lot of difference in terms of performance but are pretty cool anyway, especially when attached to either a new Dodge Ram body or the AFX Jeep body. No spinning back tires as they just hook up and go, but with the good traction of a G-Plus already and silicone tires, there is hardly any spiining tires anyway. They are good for pushing other cars that are stuck as they really do have more force to them with all 4 wheels driving. I did buy a 4 wheel drive magnatraction from a guy in New York but it eats through the front gears too fast.
