Hey bob,

I have a suggestion for quallifiing, you should try to keep the heats to 4 or 5 cars max, I know there are alot of people coming but if there are 6 in each heat you are going to have a lot of people that have not raced each other and a lot more crashes, It may take a little longer to get thru the rounds but it will be worth the extra time in the day to have the field of people happy with there race weekend and may even help some of the issues of the shuffle that some drivers still have. just a thought but I know if there are less cars per heat in means less crashes and that will make for better racing

see everyone at the track

Fun is what it's all about. We will do our best to keep the heats to max of 5 cars. Good suggestion, Thank you

Just thought I would pass this info along, I just booked two rooms at the hollow in in barre. the guy was helpful and the price not bad 65.00 for each room, I also called the days in and they wanted 135.00 for a room that was smaller than the one at the hollow in, last time we stayed at the days in it was around 55 dollars, when I asked why the price change I was told that there was some event in town and the rooms are hard to get for the weekend, I later found out that it was just other racers calling for rooms. the guy at the hollow in said he stil has a few room left.

Jesus dont pay 135 dollars for a room at the Days Inn  Try the Comfort Inn at 802-229-2222 or the Lague Inn at 802-229-5766. if anyone has trouble finding a room let me know there are others in town as well but I just gave you the better one and the closest ones first.
$65 for the Hollow is a good price and worth it. $135 for the Days Inn is rediculous.

other options
Pierre Motel 802-476-3188
Budget Inn 802-479-3333
Capital Plaza 800-274-5252
Vermonter Motel 802-476-8541

I want to thank everyone for coming to Barre in such terrible conditions. The timing of the storm made it impossible to postpone, besides it takes more than 30 inches of snow to cancel a race in Vermont. I think that is the first trophy race I have ever been to that nobody fought or argued with anyone. It seemed a good time was had by all. Just look at the results page and you can see there was some great races in every class. Thanks to Rob for the help plowing on Saturday. 3-4 inches an hour is pretty tough to keep up with.
Thanks to Bob and Gary for sacrificing their day of racing so that the rest of us could have a great day of racing. Everything ran like clockwork. Nice job guys
Don't forget how to get here, we race every Sunday at noon. Hope to see you all and more back at the spring race.

p.s. Anyone else have fun? The drive in the snow alone was a blast.

Hello all,
We are now in the Northeast Carpet Oval Challenge. Our race dates are 6-7 March 2004, practice on 6 Mar and the race on 7 Mar. We are going to incorporate the series into a Trophy race on that day, that should make for a big crowd. We need to start now looking for a sponser. It looks like it's going to be a good series with tracks from Rome NY, Glenns Falls NY, Rensallear NY, Enfield CT and now Barretown Speedway representing VT. For the complete schedule check out the thread for the series on Hobbytalk. See you at the track

Hello, I'd really like to make the trip up for the series race on the 6-7. Does anyone know how far of a drive it is from Rome? And what kind of turnout do you expect for 12th scale?

thanks,

01-14-2004, 09:48 AM
JW,
I'm not really sure about the 1/12th scale because it's not a class that we normally run but, we will if we get enough cars so, I guess we need to know how many 1/12th are planning on making the trip. It takes about 5 to 6 hours for the trip we raced in Rome 2 years ago for the series. Hope you make it

Wow Bob that was fast. I think we should make mention here our plans for next week. For those of you who have been away, and those just looking for something different, next week we will be running 5 minute heats and the main events will be 100 lappers. We do 60-70 laps now in 4 minutes. In 5 minutes we should do close to 80. 100 laps should take around 6 minutes. Thats 360 seconds of run time, we should all be able to do that. It is an experiment just for next week, see how it goes. If we like it we could do it more often. I think it is a chance to be more like a real race, you don't see then racing for just 5 minutes at Daytona. "The Daytona 5 Minutes" Come on over next week and give it a shot with us. I think it will be a whole lot of fun.

It is certainly understandable you missing the trophy race. We got 30 inches of snow out of that one.:eek:We did miss you though. It just wasn't the same without the mighty midget and his crew. It just sucked the way the storm hit us that hard and they weren't expecting that much. By the time it started snowing here we already had guys here from CT and NY and Canada practicing. Too late to postpone now. We had a great race and the place was just about full anyway. Looking forward to seeing you back real soon

Hi Brian,
While your on the subject of trying new things, how about 2 or 3 lap individual qualifing runs! Would be neat to try and see just how much longer it took, and how well it was received. Just a thought!

Later,
Larry

teamouellette
01-21-2004, 10:09 PM
That has been mentioned Larry, I am sure we WILL try it some time. I think it would make sorting out the heats go a little faster if we qualified for our starting spot instead of a random start based on when you sign up. The faster cars would start together instead of waiting for the second round to shuffle you around. It would be a little time consuming, but if we sacrifice one round of heats for time trials it might make for better racing. We could do time trials, 2 heats and the mains. If all the cars were ready and lined up waiting so we could go boom, boom, boom. I think we could get through time trials in about the same time as a heat race. We will talk about it at the next driver's meeting. I for one think it is a great idea. anybody else?

Brian

I like the idea of having "hot lap" qualifying. It would be fun. Not really a big fan of the 100 laps though. I would rather keep the main ths same as the rest of the heats. If you want to do 5 mins then do all of the heats at that. I notice that when I practice and go to the 5+minutes on a battery pack that the car starts to handle differently. Could be battery dropping off or just traction etc. For the guys that are a little better that might not be a problem, but for me I have a hard enough time staying out of people without the car changing during the run :jest:

Not to mention that if you have 8-10 heats that that will be a late night to get out of the race.

Planning on being there sun. will see how it goes I guess........

brian ,we have done the 3 qualifying laps in plattsburgh,it don't take that long,as long as every is ready when they're surpose to be,if some one is'nt there they go in the last heat, plan and simple,we did it with only the pan cars,it's really alot of fun.we started at 7pm raced 3- 5 minute heats and a 5 minute main and got finished at 11:00,

It used to be a lot simpler to use. All the oval racing was together in one place. Now there is 800 different areas to look in, it is just too confusing. It would take you a year to search every thread on here. Some guys use oval racing, some guys use general discussion, hell I don't know where to go anymore. When I get a response notice I just copy the address and paste it and click go or I would never find anything

Sorry you had bad luck in the main Wey. Mom said there would be days like that, she just never said there would be so many. I think most everyone had fun with the 100 lapper. I also think 5 minutes is too long. I really like our 4 minute races. The 100 lapper was fun for something different, not something I would want to do regularly.
When it comes to adjusting your car Wey, don't do major changes. Try small things one at a time. When you make major changes you don't know what worked and what didn't. If the combination of changes doesn't work that doesn't mean one or two of those changes might have helped but the third thing you did through it out to lunch. You know what I mean? Besides, your car isn't that bad. Make one change at a time and see what it does. Just my two cents, take it or leave it.

Brian
