Outstanding!! Halloween night at Scotty’s. Several goblins made the trek from Oshkosh to Milwaukee to see what kind of mayhem they could cause. Ted & OX (no need to put costumes on those two to make ‘em scary), The Dude and Dick Wood made to pilgrimage. 24 cars ran including 5 in Cup class, 13 in stock and 6 in 19 turn. The 4 of us from Oshburg ran stock and Ox and Ted had a great battle in the B with Chris Repinski . At times the three were just feet apart. OX ended up winning it with a 44.04 with Don Woodward coming out of nowhere late in the race to push Chris and Ted back. Mike Simkins brought up 5th place and these 4 all had 33 laps. Close.
Jeff Fritsche took the early T.Q. with a 46/403.80 with Mentzel close behind. On the last round Wood pulled a 46/04 for second on the grid. Mentzel held 3rd a half second back, while the “Rilling” boys took up the next two spots, jr ahead of sr. Pat Simkins and Jeff Carlson rounded out the A. The whole pack got through the first corner but Wood and little Hays touched on the other end sending Wood into the air. It was Jeff, Dude, Sr. Pat, Carlson, Jr and Wood. Wood wrestled 6th from Carlson as the Dude was working on Jeff Fritsche. Lap 14 and the leaders and about three other cars arrived at the corner at the same time. Unfortunately the Dude got spun directly into the wall by Wood who slipped up on the white stuff, ending the only serious threat to Fritsche. Jr was too far back at this point to cause him much concern. This also allowed Carlson back past Wood. Simkins dropped out shortly after and the order was Fritsche, Sr,Jr, Carlson and Wood. Shortly Wood got by Carlson and Fritsche had a spin but I don’t know the circumstances. Soon Jr got past Sr. The race ended with Fritsche first and Little Hays just 2 seconds in arears. Sr and Wood finished a lap down and Carlson rounded out the field. If I ever learn to drive in traffic, everybody better watch out. L.O.L.
19 turn was fast with Jason Hack taking the pole with 51 laps and small change. Steve Goemens, Skomski, Ferks, Hicks and Jamie Tennies rounded out the grid though Jamie was a DNS for the main. At the start Jason got spun back to 3rd as they thundered away. Goemans, Skomski, Hack, Hicks and Ferks after 2 laps. Hack was on a mission and passed Skomski on the outside for second place by lap 5. Yes Skomski lifted but it looked pretty cool anyway. By lap 9 Hack was back in front, with Goemens 2nd, Skomski 3rd, Hicks 4th and Ferks 5th. This only lasted a couple laps as Ferks relegated Hicks to 5th. Hicks retired at the 2/3 mark and the rest finished in order. Jason turned a 51/404 with Steve Goemens a lap down.
Thanks to Danny D and Jamie for heading me in the right direction tire and gear wise. Hmmm. Do you guys give driving lessons?????

Another Tuesday has come and gone. Those who chose to show up had a bunch of fun, on and off the track. Little Makus took up a collection so Keith could get an operation to convert his simian thumbs to human type opposed thumbs. Dude stopped in for a few seconds to drop off OX’s secret motor and muttered something about laying linoleum, I don’t know who that is. Ted gave an artist symposium on de-soldering batteries. Makus took TQ in 19 turn and did the first 3.9 second lap that we know of. Wood Tqed stock with Hays, the senior, close behind. The stock main started with Ted and Hays muscling their way to the front, with Wood and Banana man Keith in pursuit. Wood was a little loose at the start and Ted and Hays were glued to each other like macbre Siamese twins. Wood stuck his nose in a couple times but didn’t like what the sledge was cookin’. Thank goodness he has the courtesy to paint his cars a high visibility color. Danger, Danger, Ted is in the house. Wood soon figured it would be best just to stay close because something had to happen with the two of them running fender to fender for so many laps. On lap 32 Keith threw a banana peel in front of the leaders and they both crashed heavily allowing Wood to cruise past. Ted was broken at this point and Hays was noticeably slower than before. Keith went ape and took over second spot and it ended with Wood first, Keith 2nd and hays 3rd. Ted was a DNF. I pick on these guys a lot but Ted and Hays both drove very well all night and managed to run close together for a lot of laps without incident, until they hit that darn banana peel.
19 Turn looks like it’s twice as fast as stock though it’s only 5 laps faster. Makus got the jump on the start with Cory close behind-like inches. After 5 or 10 laps Makus started to pull a slight gap. OX, Dave and Tony were giving chase but this was definitely a 2 pony race. OX’s car was fast but not smooth enough to be consistent. Dave’s car was, hmmm, strange? Tony car looked okay but lacked the necessary speed. 20 laps in and Tony smacks the wall hard and when he tries to move his car, it shoots across the track where it is introduced to the Makus machine at extreme velocity. The little black car is now crippled so OX decides to do the only humane thing and put it out of it’s misery by t-boning it with the “Death Star” car. OX continues, Makus does not. Cory picks up the lead and keeps it to the end with the lovely and delicate OX 2nd, Dave and Tony pick up 3rd and 4th well back and Makus picks up the pieces.

Last night the track started out “funny” but improved a lot during the night. The touring cars ran on the weekend and may have changed the nap a little but they also laid down a bunch of black rubber. Makus and Cory played cat and mouse with in inches of each other for the entire 4 minute main. Cory did stick his nose in several times but couldn’t find enough room to get it done. He did push Makus hard enough to make him break the previous track record with a 59, 4:02.81. Yow. Wood tq.ed stock but Karl was close enough to keep him honest. Wood got the jump with Karl close behind. Lap 9 and Karl is drafting Buddy into turn one, when Buddy’s motor decides to lose a cylinder or 2. The ensuing crash sends Karl off the track pretty much sealing his fate. Wood motors on and also sets a new track record in the process at 53, 4:01.12 which is more than a lap above the old record. The track certainly was fast after being a little weird early in the evening…

Overly pessimistic weather prognosticators kept the crowds away last night. With the Doomsayers predicting up to 8” of snow, we were saddened but not surprised at the low turnout. Karl and Buddy did make the trek from the north. OX was AWOL as were others. Makus and Cory were very close throughout qualifying but Mikee got the pole by less than 1 second over Cory. In stock Karl and Buddy ran very well all night, while Wood was out to lunch and not a factor. Tony showed up and ran okay, but not up to the frontrunners speed. Ted still has not sorted out his car.
19 turn. At the tone Cory slid past Mikee, but only for a few corners before he powered past on the outside. Cory hung with him and made a late race charge. Cory looked a little faster at that point but a bobble with lapped traffic cost him 10 feet which clinched it for little Mikee.
Karl was the class of the field this night with Buddy close behind. Karl Tqed just off the track record and at the tone checked out with Buddy in tow. Tony, Wood and Ted were left fighting for the scraps. 6 laps in and Tony introduces Wood to the fence just for old times sake.Haha. I like to rip on Tony, but this was just one of those things. That gives Tony 3rd and Ted 4th. Karl is clickin’ em off with Buddy a half a tenth slower. The next three are no threat to the leaders, other than as moving chicanes. In the last minute Wood finally manages to wrestle 4th from Ted. Karl wins it in grand fashion setting another new track record in the process. WoooHoooo. 53: 4.00.52 . Buddy finishes on the same lap for a personal best and Tony nails 3rd. Wood and Ted-well- finish. Great runs Karl and Buddy.

Hey Karl. Besides a purple left front??? what else made your car so faaaaaast?? Next question-who is going crack 54 and when?

schmelme
12-12-2003, 09:00 PM
As for the left front i wanted a grey but didnt have anything big enough to match the setup and not wanting a white on went the purple. As for fast two things i know for sure the line i was driving and i stiffened up the rear oil to 50 sides and 70 center this helped the way the car acted in the apex of the turn. Im running 320grams LR. As for motors ,buddys motors were 5 watts higher on the dyno he has better packs and same car but the you have to hit the line perfect to hit 4.5 seconds every lap that is the only thing that kept me from a 54. I would imagine this week a 54 will be done at least during the heats. Whats up with you ,was it the car ,old age ,electronics something was not right.

P.S I plan to keep my name on that wall!

That's the kind of smack I like to hear. But I am just loaning you time on the wall. L.O.L. I think (hope) it is my speed control. When I had the 19 turn in the car it was real fast for 2 minutes or so then slowed to normal stock speed and I thought maybe my battery had false peaked or something funky with the motor. I pulled the motor, checked the brushes etc and cleaned it up. Seemed okay after that on the dyno but I didn't have time to run it in the car anymore. The speed control indicated 100% power, but I suppose internal problems might not show up on the display. The car seemed okay with a stock motor but it's kinda hard to tell without someone else on the track or lap times. It was definately off the pace even when I put the stand-by set up on the car. Or maybe it is an old age thing. Hahaha.

Cory was absent last night to attend his daughters Holiday program allowing the makus clan to walk all over the rest of the 19 turn racers. That is until Cory showed up and started wrenching on OX, Dave and Jay’s cars. Suddenly OX was on the same lap as Makus and Dave and Jay were greatly improved. OX chased Makus in the main until breaking his front end when he tapped the wall. From there on it was all Makus. Karl Tqed stock with Wood, and Buddy close behind. Scott Larsen and Ted, who broke 2 axles in qualifying, rounded out stock. At the start Wood got a good jump to the lead while Karl slid to 3rd for a few laps. Wood, Karl and Buddy were all turning the same lap times-unless one of them missed the mark a bit. Lap 15 and Karl and Buddy swap spots. The gap to the front grows and shrinks a bit with traffic but is never more than 10 feet. Lap 29 and Wood is assign Ted on the far end of the track and Woods car slams into the pipe and gets wedged underneath. Dave corners the car and sets it down but it teeters like a stool with 1 short leg. Side shock blown out and jams the pod all the way over. Not sure why it took off, but I think I’ll blame Ted for being in the vicinity. L.O.L. Anyway Karl settled down to the task of catching Buddy and passed him for the lead 5 or 6 laps later. Karl wins it with a 52:401.28 with Bddy 2nd. Scott and Ted finish 3rd and 4th 2 seconds apart and Wood? Wood just sits in his pit and cries.
