Grandizer 09-11-2003, 12:12 AM I can't believe that Sony would make such a movie.
I would be very surprised if that was released in general theaters....maybe an art house cinema but never a cineaplex.
Looks more like a direct to video deal.
Fun website though.

Night-Owl 09-11-2003, 01:33 AM Depends on how many movie goers appreciate a tribute to 50s style sci fi movies. Looks like fun to me.
John P 09-11-2003, 08:46 AM I have friends who've MADE films like that!
Cool.
ChrisW 09-11-2003, 12:42 PM The problem I see is that the films being spoofed were unintentionally funny - done in earnest. This movie would have to be over the top hilarious to work. That being said, the "Dance of the Aliens" did make me chuckle...

Monster-maniac 09-14-2003, 02:19 AM I was routed to that site thru creepyclassics.com and I was floored at how well they were able to capture the feel of the 50' trailers. I just hope the rest of the film can pull off the same effect. I agree with Chris that the films it parodies were unintentionally funny, but I think if its humor is subtle, it could work as well. Sometimes those over the top spoofs are just plain stupid.

Dave Hussey 09-13-2004, 10:49 AM So did anyone see this movie yet?
My local Blockbuster has a couple of used copies for about $16 Cdn or $12 US, half what it would cost me anywhere else, and I was wondering if its worth buying.

Brent Gair 09-13-2004, 12:40 PM I've seen the movie on DVD (funny thing, I could swear I had posted a thread about it but I guess my mind was playing tricks on me...not the first time that's happened).
This is the kind of movie you definitely DON'T want to pay full price for (which I did!).
On the plus side, you get an anamorphic, widescreen transfer with a decent number of extras. And, if you are a collector of curiousities, it does have a place in the collection.
The downside is that it isn't a very good movie. As ChrisW says, the entertaining thing about the old "B" movies is that they were unintentionally funny. This movie tries a little too hard. It has too much of that "Hey look at us, we are spoofing old movies" attitude. You can sense that these guys are laughing at their own jokes like this was an episode of live TV.
At the $30.00CDN I paid, you'd be nuts to buy this. Columbia has the most absurd pricing policy. At half price, it's a judgement call.
Dave Hussey 09-13-2004, 12:48 PM Thanks Brent!
I'll mull it over. If I don't buy it, it sounds like its at least worth a rental.

TrekFX 09-13-2004, 01:50 PM They actually have this at my local library (now, THAT is the best "rental" price anywhere!)
I borrowed it on a whim. It was mildly entertaing for about the first half, but it kinda started to drag a bit. I guess it was worth the price! Wouldn't buy it for myself.
Dave Hussey 09-14-2004, 07:33 AM What the hey, I bought it. Compared to $32 Cdn at Futureshop, $16 for a used copy was a steal. Especially when I looked at the disc - pristine! The guy told me that this copy had never been rented!
Maybe that's not a good thing.............

TrekFX 09-14-2004, 07:32 PM One thing that irked me was it's a simple B&W transfer, yet there are freakin' compression artifacts or some kind of interlacing issue. No need for that these days.
Andrew Gorman 09-15-2004, 12:20 AM I liked it, and my wife loved it. It really did seem like soething I'd seen on "Rain Out Theater" when I was seven.

A great lil secret there, our library started carrying DVD's three years ago. They have a pretty decent collection now, and you can't beat the price(free)!
Steve244 04-10-2006, 05:29 PM Saw the movie on cable. Loved it. Kids loved it. Wife thinks we're all soft in the head.

Looks more like a direct to video deal. The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra DID have a very limited theatrical release a couple of years ago. It played at a couple of art houses here in L.A., but I never got around to seeing it. I have a feeling it doesn't lose too much when seen on the home screen.
