NTwigs 08-26-2003, 07:51 PM I just wanted to wake up all the oval guys, and remind them to blow the dust off their stuff, because indoor season is only a few weeks away. With ROAR Region 5's in October you guys might want to get a leg up on the competition.
Ahhh! A new carpet season. The smell of paragon. The sound of Douggy's voice crying. The smiling face of Nick. His dad turning the heat down. We could go on.
I am thinking of four cell stock and playing around with a Legend. Some nineteen turn. I am going to run an Arcor motor this year. I am going to buy a new car but don't know what I want. There are alot of nice ones out there. Maybe I will run the old Woods car and use the money to get some awsome batteries. Three hundred bucks should get a couple of bomb pacs. I am ready! Lets race.
Lets here some chatter. Whats on your mind? What do ya have for batteries? What motor and car ya running?
kevinm 08-27-2003, 11:05 PM MEL - I have your points series trophy mug. If you ever want to see it alive .... uh .... I mean ceramic again, bring $1.37 in small, unmarked bills to Rider's in Grand Rapids on saturday. And bring your car too, so you can race it. Also bring VERY LARGE pinion gears.
And you are NOT running stock!!!
NTwigs 08-28-2003, 11:36 AM Hey Mel, you should get that "new" Racetech Extreme car. From the pictures on the net, you shouldn't have any trouble setting it up.
rowle1jt 08-28-2003, 11:44 AM And you are NOT running stock!!!Mel,
All us got together over the summer (with you!) and decided you have to run MOD when there is a class and running a stock motor in the 19T class so the rest of us have a chance this year.
I can't keep letting you beat me, your older than me! :D LoL
Oh yeah, I got these killer batteries for you. For $80 a 4-cell pack they are GP 3900's with 2.18 Volts and 560 seconds of run time at 60 amps. I don't put labels on them so only team drivers know what they "really" are. LMK if you interested. I match them on my Turbo30 (which I modified myself!)
Speaking of cars........ I got just the car for you....... Shoot me an e-mail. And Smitty too.....if you guys want to keep up with me and my new (freakin' awesome!) batteries this year, you can't keep driving those old relics.....are they older than you?
DynoMoHum 08-28-2003, 02:13 PM OK OK...
Lets talk about battery and motor claim rules!!!
Just kidding... I don't want to get run out of town on a rail...
But seriously... Mel... you aren't running no 'stock' this year... Heck I
don't think I will run any 'stock' this year...
But what abut 19 Turn? is this year going to be "any 19 turn"? Such as quad magnet 19 turn motors or any other type that someone might bring with them? Or even old cranked Chameleon motors??? Anyone got a D5 based ARCOR motor yet? What if I get one of them there 'spec' 19 turn motors and cut off the timing lock tab and crank it up? What exactly is going to be acceptable?
(I sucpect that as long as I remain near the back of the pack, you guys won't really care what I run... )
SATURDAY.... Saturday... Oval racing on Saturday... (please)
rowle1jt 08-28-2003, 02:17 PM I will put in this thread what I put in the other thread:
I personally would like to keep oval racing on friday nights. I know it doesn't work that great for Glen, and maybe others too. I know if it were changed to Saturday, I wouldn't race but maybe once a month. :(
rowle1jt 08-28-2003, 02:30 PM As for 19T rules, heres my opinion. Your all going to kick my ass anyway (except for maybe Greg! ) so I say run whatever. I ran a cranked 19 last year I won't lie, and it was fast, but I wasn't. You never know, if we do the "whatever 19T" class again this year, maybe I'll run it this year too. :)
DynoMoHum 08-28-2003, 02:43 PM I'll probably show no more then once a month on Friday nights, my wife would likely kill me if I started to run more then that... maybe every other Friday at
the most. If there were Saturday races... I'd run more.
How about trying to get at least one Saturday race a month?
I'm basicly leaning towards run ANY 19 turn... meaning literaly ANY 19 turn... wether it be a hybrid or what ever... basicly as long as it's got some 'offical' tag on the arm that says it's only got 19 turns, then it's OK... Other wise we pretty much get into a situaion where we (as a group) would have to decide one or the other... ARCOR/ROAR or 'spec'... I got a feeling we could never agree on what should be the 'one' choice... and as long as people are able to run a 'cranked' anything... then really you have very little choice but to allow virtualy anything.
Meanwhile... if your going to run the ROAR regional race... then I guess you'd better have at least ONE ROAR legal 19 turn motor in your box...
rowle1jt 08-28-2003, 02:47 PM Meanwhile... if your going to run the ROAR regional race... then I guess you'd better have at least ONE ROAR legal 19 turn motor in your box...Don't worry.... I have legal ones too.... LoL :)
I also would vote for the "whatever 19T" class. As a group, most of us in Lansing know each other pretty well, and if someone was cheating hardcore we would know. Like if I tossed a 12 turn D4 arm in my Arcornite. I think somebody would notice that I was fast. The unfortunate side is that, to be fast, I probably will need a 12turn in an Arcornite can. LoL
(just kidding!) Don't want people to think that I cheat..........
NTwigs 08-28-2003, 02:50 PM Glenn, I am going to keep Friday nights as the primary Oval night. I am, however, looking to run more oval races on Saturday.
rowle1jt 08-28-2003, 02:50 PM There we go, thanks for letting us know Nick. :)
19 turn whatever is my vote. My guess is that everyone will migrate to whatever is fastest anyway.
I've got a d5 19 turn Glenn, What ARCOR is doing now though is limiting the timing to 36 degrees, so I don't know if theres a huge advatage to them over the D4. Reedy KR cans can be used, but with standup brushes. People used them at the 2003 Carpet Oval Nats as far as I know.
DynoMoHum 08-28-2003, 03:56 PM Ok... so then it seems that the only advantage the D5 ARCOR motors had was that the timing could be cranked further then the TI motors?
But then the question still remains... What is ROAR going to allow now? That is... ROAR hasn't got any timing restrictions in their rules do they?
One of my issues in getting ready for this season is this ROAR regional race... I'd like to have a 19 turn that takes advantage of what ever RULES we will have to abide by in that perticular race... After October 19th... I say anyting goes... Then again... I never cranked my timing past about 28 degrees anyway...
How about we use Roar or Arcor rules for nineteen turn. I will be getting one of the Arcor motors and that is what I will use this year. No more cranked ones for me.
Kevin I am old and gray and the speed is getting to much for me. Even Jake said I was old.
Glen Glad to hear about the wife. I wish you both good fortune.
Nick You going to carry parts for them Racetecs?
Jake I'm telling Greg you said he was old and slow but don't worry I got your back.
NTwigs 08-28-2003, 07:48 PM Mel- if you can find a picture of the new Racetech, I think many of the parts you have will fix it. It looks an alot like a Woods X-13. :D
As for the 19T class, these will be the rules as follows:
Any 19T motor (arcor, chameleon, Reedy 19T Spec)
No maximium timing rules
At this time ROAR has no mention of timing.
rowle1jt 08-29-2003, 09:20 AM Jake I'm telling Greg you said he was old and slow but don't worry I got your back. Thanks, I knew I could count on you. :)
DynoMoHum 08-29-2003, 10:05 AM Cool... now we even got the 19 turn rules sorted out....
I assume Nick's stated rules don't apply to the ROAR regional race and that only 19 turn motors with stand up brushes will be allowed in the ROAR competiton...
Monti007 08-29-2003, 11:33 AM ROAR does have a 36 degree rule which was in place at the Region five race at the velo
Also if you guys could post some info about the region five race such as hotels, directions, practice times, and agenda for the weekend that would be great.
Thanks
-Monti-
NTwigs 08-29-2003, 01:22 PM On the weekend for the regional, we will have the track open Thursday night, 4pm to 10pm, for practice.
Friday we will have practice all day, (9am to 6pm). We will be running a club race Friday night,( 7pm on) 2 heats and a main. Saturday qualifiers will be run, track opens at 9am. And Sunday mains will be run, track opens at 9am.
There are 2 hotels in the area, Amerihost Inn and the Sleep Inn, both in Dewitt, MI. I am working on a race weekend rate. I will let everyone know the first of next week.
As for the 19T class, we run what ROAR specifies for the class.
kevinm 08-29-2003, 04:53 PM Mel - Are you going to go to Grand Rapids on saturday? Care and feeding of your Trophy Mug is getting expensive. If you don't come and get it soon, the ransom demands might increase.
Kevin I can't make it Sat. Also if the ransom gets to high you may end up owning that mug.
DynoMoHum 09-06-2003, 07:57 AM Yeah, any news on this year's season and/or the ROAR regional race?
When and where will you be opening the track? etc...
Also... hey guys if I were to buy a KR motor... what would the best wind be to get? (not that I'm going to race mod... but I do want to try a new KR motor, and if I buy one it might as well be one that would work well at the local track if I or somone I know had a desire to run full mod with it...)
DynoMoHum 09-06-2003, 08:13 AM Actually... skip that last question...
I've got another... Nick... Do you have any of the new Reedy Quad Magnet 19T 'spec' motors? If so save me one and I'll be up to buy it... if not... when will you have one? save me one when you get some...
DynoMoHum 09-06-2003, 08:21 AM Oh... hey I have another question for Nick...
Will there be ANY Truck racing at the ROAR regional race? I know Trucks don't have a official ROAR oval class... but if I remember right, they have been ran as like exhibition classes in the past... any chance of that sort of thing at this Regional race? (I told a guy I would ask you this question, so I'm fufiling my obligation...)
and while I'm asking questions Nick... did you get my email reply to your questions about dynos?
Also... hey guys if I were to buy a KR motor... what would the best wind be to get?
6 or 7 single -
Hey Nick Where's the Race Track?
rowle1jt 09-06-2003, 12:44 PM When I talked to Nick on the phone yesterday, he still wasn't sure. If I talk him today, I will let you know if I hear anything..... :)
Xpressman 09-06-2003, 01:47 PM Where's Nick?
NTwigs 09-06-2003, 02:03 PM I been hiding under a really BIG rock!!
Anyways, Glenn, I haven't recieved the Reedy Quad Magnet motors yet. Walter said that the first batch came in with the wrong arms. I did get your e-mail about the Dyno. Is it Robitronics.com or Robotronics.com??
As for the race track, I'm hoping to open by the weekend of Sept 19-21st, in the same location as last year. I have to get a couple of things hammered out on the lease still, so, hopefully, only one more week. If things change, I will let everyone know.
As for trucks at the regionals, at this point I do not believe that I will off that class. Being so early in the year, not enough of the local guys will have had an opportunity to get their stuff to race. The exhibition class at this point will be Legends, using Bolink rules. I hope to have the flyer online by the middle of next week.
Also for those who haven't heard, the Region 5 Oval Champs will be Oct 17-19th, 2003.
Now, to get back under my rock... see you all soon,
Nick
DynoMoHum 09-06-2003, 05:01 PM Yeah, I saw Nick today, so I know for sure he's no longer under the rock.
It's www.robitronic.com
Thanks for the update on the new Reedy 19T Spec motor...
rowle1jt 09-06-2003, 05:25 PM Yeah, hes not under rock...... LoL
Mel, have you seen the new G-Froce? It looks like an improved X-13. Maybe you will buy a new car this year huh?....... :D
Greg Anthony 09-06-2003, 05:39 PM Nick, who we waitin on??? :p
Xpressman 09-07-2003, 07:20 PM Yeah, hes not under rock...... LoL
Mel, have you seen the new G-Froce? It looks like an improved X-13. Maybe you will buy a new car this year huh?....... :D
Where are you seeing these pics at?
Roddude65 09-07-2003, 07:28 PM Yeah Yeah ... cool Nick ... Oval on Saturday ... thats cool .... no rushing to get speeding tickets for Friday nights.
:dude:

rowle1jt 09-08-2003, 12:11 PM Nick,
Whats the word on the flyer??? I saw the rought draft and it looked awesome! When can we get it man? Huh? Huh? Huh? :D

http://www.bolink.com/gforce.html
Wow, interesting. That shiny graphite is really flexy though even if it is think it is still way to flexy.
DynoMoHum 09-11-2003, 07:41 AM Yeah Nick... Who we waitin on?
I think I saw over on the road course section that Nick's planing on opeing up the track in the next week or so... Is that accurate Nick? any new news? Have you actualy got the lease agreement worked out?
rowle1jt 09-11-2003, 11:02 AM Last I heard, lease was pretty much set for the same building as last year. :)
Heres the flyer for Regionals: ROAR Region 5 Oval Champs (http://www.helmsfuneralhome.com/Jake/ROAR_region5_oval.pdf)
rowle1jt 09-11-2003, 11:06 AM Yeah Nick... Who we waitin on?Me....get over it.
LoL
rowle1jt 09-12-2003, 11:17 AM bump! :p
kevinm 09-13-2003, 10:16 PM Nick - Are there going to be any rules changes this season for Legends cars? Since you're going to run them as the "demonstration" class at the regionals, we probably should post the "local interpretation" of them here somewhere. For instance: Last year it was 21-81 gearing (even though the rule book I have says 21 or 22T, with the option of allowing different gears due to track size). The rules I have are from before the Street Spec motor change, so I don't know what the official rule is for brushes. I don't think anyone was using the "spec" brushes. The original rules say that the steering servo must be mounted on the front axle plate, but I know several people had them on the battery tray. etc, etc, ... You get the idea.
kingpin 09-13-2003, 11:35 PM Re: Legends
Just FYI, the new legends assembly and notes refer to the newer longer battery tray allowing the steering servo to be mounted to the under side. I have not seen a new rule book. As you know, the servo mounted under the tray allows the steering linkage to be mounted without bending. A much preferred setup that decreases bumpsteer.
(definition: bumpsteer--Standing on the drivers stand between Kingpin and RickRad  )
(alternative definition: bumpsteer--What happens in the lap following the lap where you give Dougie the bump and run  )
DynoMoHum 09-15-2003, 10:01 AM Screw the legends... I've got a Truck now... :)
Quite frankly... i'm kinda tired of the 'rules' of legands... No one seems to want them to change, yet there seems to be a fair number of those that do want changes. Legands is just another high $$ class disguised as a entry level class. When you have to go find the largest set of brand new rear tires go get your rollout higher so you can go faster, because someone doesn't want to allow gear changes, it causes problems... I personaly would much rather go buy a $5 pinion gear then to go buy another set of tires, etc... I'm almost convinced I'll never be happy with the Legands rules any more, so if/when I run it in the future, I'll just run what I have and let others worry if I'm legal or not...
NTwigs 09-15-2003, 03:04 PM Hey guys, I have the rates for the Regionals.
Amerihost Inns (517-374-0000) $50 per night, rooms must be booked by Oct 1st. Tell them you are with the Hobby Hub.
Sleep Inn (517-669-8823) $67 per night, tell them you with the Hobby Hub.
See you all soon!!
Xpressman 09-15-2003, 03:11 PM You the man Nick. Now is there a cheerleading convetion in town that weekend or the other convention???
kingpin 09-15-2003, 03:17 PM DynoMoHmmmmmmm.
You have been poking fun at us ever since the snowbirds warmup last winter about running around trying to find the tallest tires that we could. This was a genuine way of improving rollout in a class where only one or even two pinions are allowed, with no spur changes. At Mt. Pleasant on the 120' track, some of the guys like the smallest tires, with the idea that it keeps your weight lower.
In my case, each race day is like Lewis and Clark going over the next Mountain. I never know what I am going to find. Sometimes I have a fast car and sometimes I have a car that I wouldn't wish on Kevin or Rick, (well, maybe Rick).
As to the rules, they are quite simple, and overall, they keep the cost down. Buying new tires is cheaper than keeping a COMPLETE inventory of spurs and pinions.
Some tracks do not take the legend class seriously, and this leads to poor teching, and rule infractions lead to animosity among us reasonable, patient and wonderful legend drivers.
As to the statement "Legands is just another high $$ class disguised as a entry level class." Here at Kingpin's Legend Emporium, we are over-stocked, and I would be glad to trade SEVERAL legend chassis's for one of those other things they call TERMINATORS.
Finally, your last sentence isn't offered as a NEW attitude, is it?
("I'll just run what I have and let others worry if I'm legal or not...")
Remember, we have run with you before
Hope to see you soon in Lansing and in Mt. Pleasant
George
P.S. Wait til you see the truck rules
