Jamie Hanson 03-04-2004, 06:50 PM Oh and by the way... any chance you'll be at the Michigan State Oval champs race Jamie?
OH YES. I will be there. Running 19t and stock. I am glad the front end helped. a 4.0 second lap is FAST!.
But yes I will be there Friday and Sat
NTwigs 03-04-2004, 06:53 PM Kevin, it will not be a ROAR event. I think that it might curtail the attendance. Many of the racers that run would not need ROAR again until next winter.
rowle1jt 03-04-2004, 08:26 PM Here is the REAL flyer. Its to replace the "whipped together by Jake 2.6 seconds" flyer.
DynoMoHum 03-04-2004, 08:42 PM The flyer says what time the doors open, but has nothing about the time the racing starts... So what time does the sign up and racing start?
kingpin 03-04-2004, 10:05 PM LEGENDS
I dis- stink- ly heard someone say Legends.
I had the wife call the doc and put off my Colonoscopy just so that I can attend. Boy did I hate putting that off
George will be there with the legend that stunk up the place at the Region 5 champs.
Now if I can get Kevin, Doug, Sam, Rick and a few others to stay home, I may do well.
Any of you want to take my place at the hospital? The Doc said that there is nothing to the "procedure", then I saw the hose. Wow!! world class pucker.
rowle1jt 03-04-2004, 11:10 PM Any of you want to take my place at the hospital? The Doc said that there is nothing to the "procedure", then I saw the hose. Wow!! world class pucker.Ouch!
Roadsplat 03-04-2004, 11:52 PM Sorry if this is a dumb question but what are the Roar rules for running 19T?
Thanks
RC
kevinm 03-05-2004, 09:12 AM Sorry if this is a dumb question but what are the Roar rules for running 19T?
Thanks
RC
THAT is the question everyone's been asking for months now!
Roadsplat 03-05-2004, 09:33 AM Yes I know, but on the 1st flyer posted it stated Roar rules in 19T and I was just wondering what that is. I guess what I'm wondering is can I run my Reedy Spec 19T Quad Mag motor?
RC
DynoMoHum 03-05-2004, 09:38 AM In my humble opion the ROAR rules for 19 turn are as they are stated in the current 2004 rule book... I beleive that is essentialy saying any ROAR aproved modified motor with 19 turns of 19 gauge wire... 36 degrees max timing... and any brush style you want to use.
Untill I see something on the ROAR web site that says other then that... I don't see how you can intrurpet things much differntly.
DynoMoHum 03-05-2004, 09:40 AM Oh... the Reedy quad spec...(the one with the orange/red endbell) does not show up ANYWHERE on the ROAR aproved list.
kingpin 03-05-2004, 10:33 AM what are the Roar rules for running 19T?
RC
Hi Ray,
That question usually adds about a zillion posts to any thread-
George.
Roadsplat 03-05-2004, 10:55 AM Hi George,
My intent was not to clutter this thread with a bunch of post about Roar. I'm just confused as to what I can run in 19T if the Roar rules apply. Reading Glens post sounds like I will not be able to run my Reedy motor. Is it because it's Quad Mag or are Laydowns not allowed? Or is it both?
Ray
NTwigs 03-05-2004, 12:10 PM Roadslat, you can run the Reedy 19T Spec. In truck class we have only allowed the fixed 19T motors. In the past, there have been racers who decided it would be neat to run 13T motors in the 19T Truck class.
DynoMoHum 03-05-2004, 12:54 PM I say the Reedy Quad 19 turn Spec. motor is not ROAR legal because it's never been aproved by ROAR for any class... that is it does not show up in ROAR's "aproved" list anywhere. My comments about this and/or opion have nothing to do with the physical construction of that motor...
I certianly don't want to make this into another long drawn out thing about 19 turn motors and such... but I'm still somewhat unclear by Nick's statments just now...
I beleive Nick is saying that the truck class will allow the Reedy 19T Spec. motor, as long as the timing is fixed at 24 degrees. In fact in the past Nick has said that the truck 19 turn motors MUST be fixed timing(24 degree) motors such as the Chameleons and/or Reedy Spec. motors.
It's less clear to me as to wether or not Nick is saying the Reedy Quad Spec. can be used in the 19 turn pan car class...
Either way... What ever Nick wants to do is fine with me, and I personaly have no real concern about what is or isn't allowed as long as it's clear ahead of time.
Back to my previous statments... In my opion if ROAR rules apply to the Pan car class of 19 turn motors. I personaly don't beleive the Reed Quad Spec. meets the ROAR rules simply because it's never been "aproved" by ROAR for racing. But then neither has ANY so called "19 turn Spec" motor.
Roadsplat 03-05-2004, 12:59 PM Either way... What ever Nick wants to do is fine with me, and I personaly have no real concern about what is or isn't allowed as long as it's clear ahead of time.
Exactly my thoughts too. Just wanted to get clarification what's allowed.
Reading Nicks comments above sounds like no problem running the Reedy in the pan car.
I appreciate your input.
Ray Clark
Xpressman 03-05-2004, 03:18 PM Glenn and others concerning 19t,
The Super Stock 19t was suppose to start this year but because they have waited so long it won't even be included at this years indoor on road champs at the end of the month.
It was just recently that ROAR posted a revision in that quad magnet motors are going to be legal for the super stock 19t class. They did this because it is believed that in a few years everything will have 4 magnets in it. Because of this all the companies need to send in there motors for approval and at that time they will be added to the approval list.
As for the 19t limited modified oval rules. Basically what we ran at the Region 5 race but quad magnets are allowed. It is going to be STAND-UP BRUSH ONLY at this time. What they did is make it easy so all motor tuners didn't have to submit motors for approval. It is any ROAR approved modified motor with 19 turns of 19 guage wire, STAND-UP brushes, and a 2 or 4 magnet can as long as it has the correct arm and endbell that it was approved with. So you have to add stand up hoods to any motor that does not have stand up hoods to begin with.
This is what I got from when I went to Trackside this past weekend for a Triple Crown race and talked with some oval guys that are in the know. They also said no one can really figure out why their are 2 different sets of 19t classes and that it seems most people would rather have the limited modified be the motor to go with. They also said that the biggest deal with the rules has been the stand up brush deal and if they are going to allow the big or mid-sized comm.
I guess to sum up no one really knows what is going on but the appoved mentioned is what I have been told most people are using for guidelines for oval nats this year.
I am not a ROAR offical just trying to inform others on what I have heard.
Brian
smitty 03-05-2004, 04:00 PM Hi Jamie, yes I did say cable modem and yes its from Charter. Glad to hear you will be racing, Big John was racing stock lasT Friday and tied your record so you need to take it up a notch. Smitty
kingpin 03-05-2004, 06:52 PM Hi George,
My intent was not to clutter this thread
Ray, Don't worry about clutter. Any thread that allows Mel, Kevin, Me and big Jake on it, is not destined for the library of Congress
I am reminded of an ancient chinese proverb:
You can't pollute a sewer
In my 63 years of life, I have learned a few things. If you don't ask the question, you won't be expected to know the answer, and it is always easier to get forgiveness, than permission
rowle1jt 03-06-2004, 02:32 AM I am reminded of an ancient chinese proverb:
You can't pollute a sewerTo add clutter here are the chinese proverbs that I can think of:
Man who fart in church sit in own pew.
Baseball wrong, man with 4 balls cannot walk.
Man who walk through airport turnstile sideways is going to Bangkok.
Man who stand on toilet is high on pot.
Man who eat many prunes get good run for money.
Man with one chopstick go hungry.
Man who run in front of car get tired.
Man who run behind car get exhausted.
I have more....but I shouldn't post them on a "Family" forum, talk to me this weekend and I might tell you......
kevinm 03-06-2004, 04:39 PM Dyno - Although the new Reedy Spec motor (with flames) has not been approved by ROAR (and neither has the Chameleon), it is identical to the Kr series of mods in every way except paint and the color of the plastic in the endbell. Since this is not a ROAR official race, I see no reason to not allow it, unless someone can give a convincing argument on how painted flames will make it faster.
Xpressman - The ROAR rules for limited 19 turn (oval) in the PDF file says any brush type and quad magnets are legal. While it's true that Kenny B has said this is going to change, and other interpretations have been used at other big races, the bottom line is: If we don't follow the latest OFFICIALLY stated rules, then why say it's ROAR rules? Just call it Nick Spec and let him define it. At the regionals, we DID follow the currently stated rules (which were ARCOR based), now the official rules are different (and may change again any minute), so any ROAR sanctioned race held today should follow whatever is the latest from the web site, whether it's what ROAR meant to say or not.
(I think that was at least 20 cents worth.)
DynoMoHum 03-06-2004, 06:21 PM Kevin, I'll use your words... If we don't follow the officaly stated ROAR rules then why say it's ROAR rules?
ROAR clearly states that a motor must be aproved before it can be used in competition. It also states that if a motor changes the color of the can and/or the endbell then it must be re-submited for aproval... therfore there are no "spec" 19 turn motors that are ROAR legal. Eventualy they may be aproved under the new "Super Stock 19 turn" class... but then unless some other rules change, they still will not be ROAR legal for the 19 turn oval 'limited modified' class, as they will not be aproved modified motor etc... If you want to run a big comm with laydown brushes in ROAR 19 turn oval class, it would have to be a KR to be legal.
I beleive we need to hear what the Nick Spec is... cause I totaly agree, that it is/will be what Nick says it is...
rowle1jt 03-06-2004, 10:31 PM Guys, lets try and keep it on topic for the Hub, there are other threads for this motor debate, I can think of three alone in the oval area, don't mean to be a jerk (or worse! LoL) lets try and keep it on topic.
I am sure Nick will let us know EXACTLY what the 19T rules are for this weekend in all classes.
Thanks Guys.
kevinm 03-07-2004, 09:12 AM Hopefully he'll let us know BEFORE this weekend, so no one will have a reason to whine louder than the dynos at the race. :D
rowle1jt 03-07-2004, 11:55 AM I'll get with him in the next day or so and post. I was going to ask him the other day when I spoke with him and I forgot too. :)
kevinm 03-07-2004, 01:22 PM Jake - While we're on the subject of motors, I'm sure somebody will want to know if the Binary Stock (appropriately nicknamed "BS") is legal/
Glenn - Upon further review... The only difference between the Reeedy "flames" spec motor and a Kr mod is the color of the endball. The cans are the same. (The flames are on the sticker, which doesn't matter.) So if you put a black Kr endbell on it, it would match an approved modified motor. And since the Oval 19turn don't (yet) specify wire length or wrap technique, the "Hemi" wind would be OK.
OvalTrucker 03-08-2004, 09:17 AM Look what you have done now Ray! :D
Roadsplat 03-08-2004, 10:16 AM Yeah I see that. I just wanted to see what was going to be allowed, the flyer stated Roar rules apply and I wasn't sure. I was just expecting a simple answer. Guess I was wrong. :)
I'm sorry it lead to so many post. I guess at least it keeps the Hobby Hub thread to the top though. :)
rowle1jt 03-08-2004, 10:24 AM Yeah Ray, its all your fault! LoL I just wanted to try and keep it on topic, motor issues will be resolved before the race. I will call Nick today and try and post the answer tonight/tommorow. And I will ask about the bull-poop stock as well.
rowle1jt 03-08-2004, 10:25 AM Looks like Dean-o is trolling our thread....... you gonna be there Greg?
kevinm 03-08-2004, 02:19 PM According to Nick's post on the State champ thread he created, the answer to the 19-turn question is ................ ANY 19T
See, there WAS a simple answer.
NTwigs 03-08-2004, 02:54 PM Yeah Kevin, I decided that it would be easier to just make it any 19T. Too many rules make it no fun.
Jamie Hanson 03-08-2004, 02:56 PM Deano????? Where..... I will believe that when I see it :-)
Roadsplat 03-08-2004, 03:06 PM According to Nick's post on the State champ thread he created, the answer to the 19-turn question is ................ ANY 19T
See, there WAS a simple answer.
You're right Kevin...that was simple. :)
Thanks
C'ya Saturday

I want to thank Hobby Hub and the crew for giving us a great place to race at. Alot of good racing went on here this year and am looking forward to the next carpet season.
I am thinking of running in the nineteen turn truck class next year. As you all know I am not the youngest guy around so something a little slower and a bit bigger might keep me more competitive for next year. Again a Big Thanks for giving us a Great place to race.
