Screw the legends... I've got a Truck now... You said when you bought a truck you were going to buy me one too! I guess you shipped it up to me and I will get it tommorow huh? LoL :D

Either way, Legends are the official "Exhibition" Class at the Regionals race, not trucks. The rubber tires on a truck would suck the traction out of the carpet, thus taking away the "groove" and making people like me (and Mel!) complain. Plus Legends are "funner" on an oval than a truck in my opinion. Now that you have a truck Glenn, you will have to come to L-town on friday nights, after the baby is born of course, just like your wife said.

We most likely starting in 2 weeks. We have a little work to do on the building before we can start.

I disagree with MOST of Dyno's statements, but DO agree with the gearing gripe. George, 3 or 4 Losi pinions ($3 ea.) are ALOT cheaper than buying new rear tires every 2 weeks. The 21 tooth pinion is just about perfect for Jon's 120' track, but the extra 40' (or more?) at the Hub's track makes straightaway speed much more important. The fastest car each week was usually the one with the newest rear tires. While it's true that the fastest car (on the straights) didn't always win, I found it very discouraging to drive near-perfect lines and watch other cars pull away 6' per straightaway. If you do the rollout calculations with a 21T and new tires (which now ship at around 2.45"), you need a 23T to be the same with 2.25" tires. I'm in favor of allowing ANY STEEL pinion for Legends.

As for the rest of the Legends rules, I think they're fine. I just wanted clarification on some of the "optional" rules in Bolink's rules sheet. Such as: Aluminum left rear hub, different tie rods, motor brushes, etc.

Dyno - I understand (sorta) your complaints, but remember the major concept of the Legends cars is that all cars are created equal. The car is very deliberately simple (read: non-tunable) to put more emphasis on driving than on car setup. The whole "car setup is everything" aspect of pan car racing is what I'm getting sick of.

Does anyone think that there are enough local, (michigan racing), legend people on this board that a poll would be worthwhile? Obviously Glenn will not have an opinion since he is quitting Legends
Perhaps Nick, Jon and Joel would agree with a consensus report on local rules.
I would suggest that bushings, 81t spur, spec tires, battery and motor should be kept, along with the bolink steel axle as long as bolink has them available.
I remember a simple jig back at Bridgeport for checking tread width and overall heighth.
Items that could be approved for change:
Different tie rods (especially if Bolink bites the bullet)
Pinions-any steel
Aluminum left rear hub-------\
Motor brushes-any-----------> these 3 are allowed now
Servo placement-anywhere--/
Bumper-any (quite possibly the biggest failure of the legend car)
and?????

Oh Brother, I hope we don't have to give up on the bolink legend bodies. Jon got three in the other day and would only let me have one. Most places say that the bodies are on order or temporarily not available.

And lest I forget, Kingpin's Legend Emporium has many legends ready for immediate delivery in any state from Fantastic to Dreadful. Or should I say from rolling chassis to Ready to Run. :)

Sorry George I got the other two. I'm with George on the rules.
Kevin You must be getting lazy. If you want to be fast you have to work on the car. When you get to be my age you do what you have to do to be competitive.
Anyway I am ready to race.

Ok, so I exagerated for dramatic effect when I said that Legands was turning into a high $$ class in disguise...

However Legends has changed their own rules... late last year, there was a new kit with adjustable rear axle mounts, this changed things dramaticly in my opion.

Trinity also switched batterys on the Legends late last season, this for sure made the old batteries obsolete. There are also new "spec" tires out by TRC, new rims basicly, I doubt that this is much of a issue, but it is something that's changed.

Plus legends has all kinds of rules that really make very little sense from a cost control point of view... where you can and can not place servos and/or electronics... Why is that aspect nessasary? In my opion it's not.

Pinions? I think you can buy an enitire set of steel pinions for about $30 I honestly don't think this is a cost issue when it comes to buying pinions vs. tires.

My statement about if/when I run legends... Basicly I'm saying... If you guys don't like what I run... then you can whip me with a wet noodle... I don't plan on running at the ROAR exhibition race that is scheduled, so I honestly don't care what rules you guys run under for that... for weekly club racing... Your going ot have to count the teeth on my pinion each race if your concerned about the size of my pinion...

More then likely I'll rarely run legends this year... If I do, it's going to be just for fun and to keep you guys on your toes.

OH... BTW... I don't care if there is not Truck racing for the ROAR regional race... I bought the truck for fun... and if/when I have time or desire I'll run it at club races and/or in Jackson.

One more thing... What is the status of Bolink and/or legend parts/kits?

George... have you got any side plates with the new style rear height adjustments? Anyone know someone that can modify old side plates to allow the use of rear height adjusters?

kingpin
09-16-2003, 05:37 PM
Out of 13 legend chassis out in the barn, only one has the axle height adjusters. You can get the chassis approx. 3/32 of an inch lower with height adjusters than the standard axle mount. Is this worth it?? Probably. I think that anyone with a decent bench mounted drill press could make the older chassis accept height adjusters, but then you would have to tech the chassis clearance, (an easy thing to do).

The battery change was said to have been one of necessity, because batteries of the 1300 mah variety were obsolete.

The Servo placement has never been an issue at any race or track that I have visited.

The penalty for running the wrong pinion will be that you have to run your pinion on the axle and spur on the motor. And before Kevin says that it won't work, I will drill a pinion to fit, just in case.

As for Bolink, Steve Rule visits another thread on this board, although I don't know why, because he gets berated every time that he does. I have not checked the thread lately, so I don't know what the excuse de'jour is.

And finally, the tires vs pinion price was tongue in cheek, good grief. We need a new smilie for tongue in cheek.

Got to go, Posting two legends on ebay tonight.

kevinm

George - If you're going to drill out a pinion gear, better use a Robinson. They're not hardened at all, and won't dull your drill bit. In fact, start with Robert Phinney's gear. I think he was using a 31 tooth one time last year, so there's more room for the axle.

Mel - I see all the "A" main guys spending every minute between rounds working on the car or motor, and running more laps in practice than they do in the race. You can call it "lazy" if you want, but I call it "sensible". And besides, you said you're going to run the slow class this year.

kingpin
09-16-2003, 11:12 PM
Since you brought up Robert, I think that he should be put on the pole in every race. That way the other drivers won't have to worry about being rear-ended in the first turn. Been there-Done that

Hi guys there is a simple solution for all of the Legend issues. We start our own class. Call it masters class and anyone interested in the class should vote on the rules
. Like changing pinion gears ect.
As long as we have 5 or 6 cars this would be a graet class. Myself, Doug, Mel, Kevin, Jammie, Dyno, Keith, thats 7 cars that I know of. If we have that many cars we can have whatever rules we want.

DynoMoHum
09-19-2003, 02:11 PM
For the weekly club races I'd say that would be true... For the exhibition rece at the ROAR regional event, Nick or someone is going to have to state the rules...

I am only doing this as I know Nick doesn't race oval on sunday and just passing along some race info. I just thought I would pass this info on to you guys as Fort Wayne is about 3 hours from Mt. Pleasant straight down 69. The track is brand new CRC Ozite and I think some guys from Indy are going to come to race too.

Oval trophy race Sunday, October 12th. This race was originally scheduled for the Schoolyard R/C track in LaGrange, IN, but was rained out. The event has been moved to the carpet track at Summit R/C Raceway. Trophies, prizes and lots of great racing. You can call the track Tuesday, Thursday, Friday or Saturdays at 471-2722 for more information. Also look at the website

Zubie is a good buddy of mine, and I figure if he's gonna run mod, he needs a teammate to show him the fast way around, so he doesn't make a fool of himself.
just kidd'n. We just figure if my bro, zubie, ernie, & myself all run the same car we should be able to get it REALLY fast between the 4 of us.

Well, It is after nine AM, I don't have my stuff together, don't know which of my motors is the best, no batteries charged and one more coat of paint to put on my new legend body. So then I remember that there was some talk of a different location for the track. I emailed a certain newly wed to find out for sure and got now answer. :hat:
Well since it is a 2 1/2 hour trip, and they can't do without me, I need to be sure of the location. After all, what is a legend race without kingpins car upside down in turn two, or a four cell stock heat without at least one rolling road block. I don't want to go around in circles until AFTER I get there, so if there happens to be someone on this thread that knows for sure that it is at the same location, and what time the doors open, please post.

P.S. Soon

P.P.S. Write loudly because I will be out in the barn.

I just thought I would let everyone know that Summit R/C Raceway in Fort Wayne, IN is going to hold a Oval trophy race Sunday, October 12th. Also look at the website
http://hometown.aol.com/sheath9831/raceway.html
The race flyer is http://pdxracing.sytes.net/schoolyard~summitflyer.html

Doors open at 8am, drivers meeting at 11:30 and racing starting at 12:00 with 3 quailifiers and a main. Entry fee is: $15.00 - $10.00 for each additional class and 3 cars make a class.

Sonny Brown was at the first race this past sat and said, " For those that haven’t made the trip, the track is smooth, fast and had pretty good bite for the first race weekend. Run line is about 145 with 12’ wide lanes. More then enough pit room and new AMB digital lap counting system. The only thing they need is for more racers to take advantage of the track."

Bring all your friends and tell anyone you know that wants to get abck on the rug. The rumor mill has it that some of the Indy crew is coming as well as a Big guy from Kentucky and some bearded guy that can wheel pretty good from Cinncy.

If you need more information or directions please feel free to e-mail me at bjanth72@hotmail.com. I am not affliated with the track just trying to get everyone together for one hell of a race.
