Brushless is just easy for me to maintain. I run three different classes @ HW in Jacksonville. I don't have to touch the bl car except for charging the batteries...the other two cars I'm working on the motors.

I mean Cliff that when they start making the brushless system legal to run in a stock class, I am done. Its bad enough trying to keep up with the battery of the week much less a whole new motor and esc setup. I am in this for fun not to go bankrupt with the flavor of the week.

I have now started flying rc planes too, they are a lot less stress, I dont have to deal with egomaniac fellow racers that take this too seriously, and you cant cheat!

Although when they hit, it is a tad bit more expensive! Been there, done that!

Also its hell to get the dang thing outta the top of a 75 ft tall pine tree!!!!

If you have a brushless system in your car you are pretty much down with your car, especially if you have found a good chassie set-up to run the car with. Most of the time you can run your practice battery pack race with if you have the brushless system set in the stock setting and your car will run just as fast. Don't knock it if you have not tried it. The guys who race the stock motors against the brushless in the 6.5 class have to work on motors change batteries test this and that out before the next run. While the brushless guys just clean the chassie of and change or recharge there batteries. And we can run twice as long.

well everything is not for everybody and that's fine. Donnie doesn't care for them either, no biggie. It has, however been a big hit with a lot of the guys and really helps them get more practice time in without messing up their race motors. I am still going to race the brushed stuff, I am just exploring new territory and I like it.

What BL systems are you guys using? Where can you get them? :)
Sounds like fun!! Low battery maintaince and no motor work, alot more time on the car. :)

The way I see it,it will be alot better than Reedy's $29.99 brushs,or Trinity's new $14.99 brushs every 3 runs.

The Southern 500 Nat's will go on as planned Memorial day weekend. There is some talk of the NORRCA Nat's being the same weekend but I have not seen anything solid on it. Now is the time to put in requests and suggestions for this years race. What are some things you would like to see? Not see? The 6.5 second minimum lap time will stay the same for the 2005 racing season and all other rules in that class will not change. All races with brushed motors will be 5 minutes. All brushless motor races will be 8 minutes excluding break out 6.5. The only brushless system used right now is the Novak 5800 in the stock configuration (blue light on). I am looking into other systems as far as specifications compared to the Novak 5800, more to come on that.

rcgen
12-28-2004, 04:07 PM
8 minutes of racing what more can you ask for? Get those brushless ready. Oh can I use the Novak 4300 bl or do I need to get a 5800 motor? Give me a reason to buy a new bl system lol

Echeconnee
12-28-2004, 08:43 PM
I don't know about the 4300, I have not read up on the specs to compare it to the 5800 in stock mode yet but we have plenty of time

Msey
12-28-2004, 10:52 PM
Cliff, Just curious about the 8 min brushless races. Is this with a 4 cell or 6 cell? How does the speed compare to the 4cell 19 t on your track?

Donnie_99
12-28-2004, 11:48 PM
Hey Mike how have yall been down there . hows Chip havent heard from him in a while?

Echeconnee
12-29-2004, 07:49 AM
Mike it's 4 cell and the speed is in between stock and 19t maybe a little faster than 1/2. I know 5.8 and 5.9 second laps won't be a problem. We have been running them in the break out and I have only played with it a little in the open stock configuration. I have know idea what it runs like in the Mod configuration. I bet it's fast though!

The 5800 has a little more power as compare to the 4300 series brushless motor but both use the same speed controller.

rcgen
12-29-2004, 12:42 PM
So in theory the 4300 & 5800 should be the same in the "stock" setting of the speed controller. Man I wish someone here in Jacksonville had one so we can do some testing/comparison

Echeconnee
12-29-2004, 12:46 PM
I am not really sure, the windings and all may be different. The 5800 is limited by RPM only and still has a lot of punch till it gets to max RPM

Echeconnee
12-29-2004, 04:05 PM
I was looking at the specs on the Novak site and the KT (torgue) rating is the same for both motors the only difference is the amount of RPM's the motor will turn @ 1 VDC. on a 4.8 volt pack the 4300 will spin 20,640 RPM's and the 5800 in stock mode with the same torque rating is allowed to spin 24,000 RPM's so there is a difference of 3,360 RPM's. I would think that the 5800 has the potential to be a little faster. I stilll have not talked to anyone @ Novak, if I am incorrect I will post it here.

You wouldn't go wrong with either one but I think that if you get a 4300 and race with others that have the 5800 you would have to go up a few tooth on the pinion but other than that it should be trouble free racing. When we go to Daytona there should be enough of us to put on a show for all to see.

Hey Cliff, We have a total of 4 Nitro racers that are coming down to Daytona.(Myself, Charlie, Jerry, Sam) About 6 others that are thinking about it. We are going to try and push it hard here just to show them down there that the interest is up for nitro. I would love to know who farside is so I can really stick something up his d@#^ a&&.
