Just wanted to get a thread started for the new T4. Unless I just didn't see it already started. I will be in line for mine come fall when this summers activities die out. But in the mean time I want to here from everyone on the new piece. What you think is good and bad. Whatever. Let us know when you get yours, etc....

It is the most adjustable truck that Associated has produced. You will notice that small changes make a noticable difference! It is also very durable. They should be in hobby shops on the east coast by mid-nextweek.

There are spy photos over on rc10b4.com that show 'em being loaded onto the delivery van outside the factory...

I have just finished putting together a T3 and i only hope they do a better job on the T4, i spent two nights steady working to polish the front and rear swing arm pins and honing the holes out before i could even slide a pin into the arms. They were very tight. I have built assoc stuff in the past and not had this problem, needless to say i was very discouraged about associated's quality.

I just got finished running some practice rounds with Travis Amezcua (associated factory driver) and he was running a T4. great truck from what i seen and ran against. it wont put the losi's out like everyone thought/continues to think, but its a nice one. i am a Losi guy, but its good to see a lil competition for the XXXT. a T3 just can't survive here. i'm sure they could BE competitive, but all who have had them prefer the XXXT over it with the exception of a few. I know it could be YEARS from now, but i can't wait to see what losi comes out with next . it keeps getting better and better........ ;)

So how much are they selling for? And what type of options are there? Factory? RTR? Team?

Racers are receiving their T4's in the California area today.

Does anyone know if any of the parts are swappable with the T3? Not meaning using the same part but say I want to use T4 steering knuckles on my T3 for some reason....will they work?

I dont get to race enough any more to really justify buying a new truck but Id like to have other tuning options available is all.

The only thing that will fit a T4 from a T3 is shocks and wheels

OvalmanPA
08-13-2003, 06:35 PM
I believe he was asking from the other point of view, T4 to T3. :)

robman
08-13-2003, 06:40 PM
Well if something off a T4 won't fit a T3 then something off a T3 won't fit a T4

OvalmanPA
08-13-2003, 07:51 PM
Not neccassarily, depends on the "modifier" involved. :) I haven't studied the two trucks a lot but it seems like you "might" be able to get things like caster blocks and rear hubs to work with a T3. Why you would do this is maybe in question unless the width can be changed slightly or correct parts for your vehicle aren't available at the time but it might be worth a look.

patcollins
08-13-2003, 08:25 PM
Exactly, Im looking to change track width and roll center.

Just cause something wasnt made to fit doesnt mean it wont, Heck I have a few Losi parts on my T3 now, they weren't ment to fit but they do.

Pat.....oval racing trucks and buggies indoors on carpet you have to be innovative sometimes and we have guys come up with all kinds of creations. :D

Yep, I use to be a dirt oval racer....still would be if there was someplace close enough to run it.

I have this great (semi radical) idea for a truck that would have a more efficient gearbox than anything out there too, maybe some day Ill make one.

B4/T4 caster blocks will fit a T3, with some slight modifications. If you get a few parts from an old XX buggy, you can push the T3 out to the maximum roar legal width, front and back(Travis Amezuca Mod). I've been running this for a few months now(couldn't wait for the T4), and it's awesome!! Last Saturday was a sad day for my T3 though. After 1 win, and 2 second place finishes(ALMOST, won the main :( ) the T3 was retired, as the T4 was to arrive this week, and did, TODAY!

Ive had one since Sunday morning...just started building tonight...parts fit is wonderful. As for oval....I have one of the most dominant trucks in Central NY...custom offset chassis...custom vertical rear bullstud modification...modified front end....i had to add a bit of weight to meet the roar weight limit. Only 2 of these in existance. by far the fastest truck ive ever driven.

Well, I picked mine up Wednesday here in North Florida. Started building it last nite. Everything looks excellent. Getting back into electric so I have a lot of work to do. Will post some results hopefully Saturday night after I get a chance to run it.

Take care...

Anyone know how long it will be before they release a Factory Team version ? Another question is how much rear toe in does it have ? Just wondering for carpet racing purposes......Thanks Dave

walterhenderson

Dave, the T-4 has 3* rear toe-in. As far as the team kits, the original timeframe was late fall. However i know they are working very hard to get the BFT out. That will come first I am sure.

Thanks walter i appreciate the info......i have raced both trucks(losi & Assoc) and have found the Assoc trucks to be superior when it comes to carpet oval racing...Just wanted the info so i could get everything at the LHS the first time...thanks again.....

Don't you work/hang out at Larry's? Just take a T4 out back and set some bodies on it to see which would fit! Maybe a Rustler body would work!

Has anyone had a tough time getting the bearings onto the idler shaft? I could not possibly get them to fit. I polished the idler shaft smooth and still couldn't fit the bearings on. I then used a press to force them on and broke the inner race of the bearings. I ended up using the idler shaft from my T3. sucks.

Haven't heard that one. Either call associated and talk to don or gary, or give it to me or al next week.

FishRC

Sounds like you got one of the bad ones Kevin. When I was building mine at the track for the MARS, I got 3 rear shock shafts and 1 front. Lucky parts were around so I got mine done. WE built 3 of them that day. Only other issue was the spacers for the CVD's, 2 kits had extra spacers and one kit had none.

As fast at AE was trying to get these to us I'm not surprised at the little errors occurring. That’s a lot of kits to ship so quickly.

KevinDog
09-03-2003, 03:41 PM
Yep, and I was missing some screws too.
Other gripes:
It would be nice if they included some extra O-rings for the shocks.
How bout a little text to go with the excellent illustrated instructions? There are two plastic washers that are very close to the same size (shock assembly). There are 8 white spacers (from the tree) and 12 semi-clear spacers that were in the shock bag. So which ones go into the shocks? I can't find a use for the 12 other spacers.
And.. associated shock assembly still sucks.

yea Kevin,

The instructions are not all they could be for some one who has not built a lot of AE offroad kits. I'm just used to building the shocks.

My kit had all the parts it was supposed to. 1 rear turnbuckle with fubar threads. Had to buy some other brand just to run my truck. This thing is awesome. Let some of the local T3 guys drive it, think there should be a few more T4's at the track soon.

guys, i have been looking at race trucks for a while now and would like your honest opinion, would a t4 or xxx-t mfe be better for someone who wants to get out there and win? thanks!

patcollins

Some people do better with the Losi and others do better with the Associated its not a simple matter of which is better.

Ok all you T4 builders, I've got a fellow racer who is building his first AE truck (he is a losi guy) anyway on the REAR HUB CARRIERS he says when he put just the cvd and the big washer they use now, it is a tight fit to try to put the cross pin in? He can't figure how there will be enough room when you start putting in the other shims? I haven't gone over to see what everything looks like yet, but I'd figure I would ask someone who has built one first. Let me know what to look for, thanks. DS

Walter,
I did hear that many more kits have gone out with bad idler shafts (too big).

SilverEvader
09-08-2003, 03:55 PM
Also Make sure the Silver washer is flat side out. It is a tight fit as are all (Good) roll pins.

T4 or XXX-T? Definately a matter of personal preference. I let a guy run my T4 after our race Yesterday. He is now going to sell his XXX-T to buy a T4. His words "it feels lighter". He ran 1 careful lap and then proceeded to rip the track up. I have to say it is the best feeling just built straight out the box vehicle I have ever driven.

Hope this helps... :D
