Maverick Racing 06-18-2003, 02:29 AM Maverick Racing no do u grove yours?? i am new to the dirt oval ... i usley run off road and do u have a pic of a groved foam??? Ive never ran foams on dirt before, thats why I was asking. About the Big block motors, the .15 Rossi motors are probably faster than all of the .18 motors. How big is your budget? BOWTIE1 06-18-2003, 02:58 AM hmmmmmnot too big i am trying to do this on a budget yea i was thinking about the bigblock .15 bt nova i dont know how much it is .. i am looking for 1 i also have a sweet 21 to trade for a bigblock .15 hehe what r u running on the oval? BOWTIE1 06-18-2003, 02:07 PM let's see a few of them dirt cars :) dirtoval.com 06-19-2003, 09:54 PM as for motor...stick with the rossi based .12's ...they put out plenty of power and are legal at any track. i run an rb, but the mugen engines are good as well. craig BOWTIE1 06-20-2003, 11:48 PM cool i am putting a MT12 in it so i can run anywhere thanks dirtoval.com 06-21-2003, 01:49 PM bowtie where are you located? what classes and tracks are you running? craig BOWTIE1 06-21-2003, 09:51 PM hey dirtoval.com i have not run it yet trying to get it set up there is a trace in wetherford,Tx that run oval with a 240ft drive line i am going to run in the outlaw class i am going to run a picco integra also i am running on foam's with a MT12 in it i cant fine noone to help me set the car for dirt tho :( so i am going to my best to set it up this is my first on-road car so i am verry new to it :D thanks jasonthehunted 06-21-2003, 11:19 PM if you havent run on the track with your new car yet, your best bet would be to go ahead and run on it and see what the car needs. its gonna be tough for anyone to help you set up your car online, because all tracks are different. I would just get some different sets of springs, some traction compound, your tools and some fuel and head out there one day and get it dirty. You can always ask someone on that track to help. the fast guys normally like to help the new guys, for awhile. And when you get back, post what you found out cuz I might run at weatherford some saturday night too. BOWTIE1 06-21-2003, 11:27 PM jasonthehunted what r u running??? yea i know i cant get it set up on line but atleast help with what is the softest sprind for 1/10 scal on-road cars??? that is all i need for now....the reasti think i got hehehe but not sure have u ever ran at weatherford????? i have never been there i would like to tho i just got new motor and going to break it in this next week and get my body's ready also :) BOWTIE1 06-21-2003, 11:35 PM hey dirtoval.com i am in TX near dallas jasonthehunted 06-21-2003, 11:46 PM Im running gas truck with an EDM body and a OS .12cv-r, or was, Im trying to get paved oval goin over here in garland, so Im workin on my electric pancars now. COOPER GREENS A TUFF TO BEAT ON DAMP STICKY CLAY, THEY HAVE EXCELLENT BITE AND WEAR WELL. SOME PREFER PINKS, (JACCO) BUT i HATED THE LOSS IN GRIP THEY SEEMED TO HAVE IN THE TURNS. i GOT CLOCKED AT 48.6 MPH ON A 120' FLAT OVAL COMMING OUT OF TURN 4 SOME I THINK THEY WORKED GREAT FOR ME, CAME IN SECOD FOR THE SRRIES POINTS, MOSTLY DUE TO THE FACT IT TOOK ME 5 RACE DAYS TO GET CONSISTANT. I GROVVED ON THE LATHE WITH AN AXACTO BLADE FOR THE REGULAR GROVES, AND A DREMMEL CUT OFF WHEEL OR MINI SAW FOR CROSS GROVES. I ALSO USED 2" PAN CAR WHEELS, SOME REMOVED THE RIBS FROM BUGGY, AND TRUCK WHEELS, BUT i FELT THIS STRECTCHED THE FOAMS TOO TIGHT AND EFFECTED THE WAY THEY ACTED TOO MUCH. I GOT ABOUT 8 RACE DAYS ON A SET OF COPER GREENS RUNNING 6 CELLS WITH AN 8X2 BANZI, IF I DIDN'T HIT ANYTHING AND CUNK THEM BAD.....ONCE CHUNKED, ESPECIALY THE RIGHT SIDE, AT EITHER END, THEY WEAR FASTER. AT LEAST ON A SPRINTCAR OVAL4EVER 06-23-2003, 04:02 AM OPPS! BOWTIE1 06-23-2003, 10:54 AM OVAL4EVER do u still run oval????? and r u running ele or gas i am going to run gas with this car with a MT12 in it and a 2 speed on foums i have talked to some ppl that goto the track and they dont grove the tires i am wordering if i do if ill get more bite i also would like to see your grove so if u can e-mail me a pic so i can get a idea thanks my addy is mrbowtie@airmail.net thanks BOWTIE1 06-23-2003, 01:09 PM so what is a good pipe to run ????? i am running a MT12 motor thanks OVAL4EVER 06-23-2003, 03:12 PM WELL I never had a place available that ran gas my first 10 years in the hobby, (yeah, I fart dust!), and so I never made the effort once the gas stuff came to my area. I run carpet occasionally right now, want to try asphault, both electric pan car. I dropped dirt oval mostly due to finding an awsome trck, that sold out, and went to crap, and the other that I frequented started actually "plowing" the track on race day so it was more buggy suspetion oriented. this track though over 160' long with substantial banking is high sand, which resulted in the track record being 39 laps...across the board in all classes. open wheel stock full body stock full body mod, (when available) stadium truck stock continued; OVAL4EVER 06-23-2003, 03:13 PM and out law sprints, open mod, 7 cell allowed. so I just gave up on tha track, just got frustraiting to spend 3 times the ammount on an outlaw sprint, to turn the same ammout of laps as a (tires excluded) box stock, T3, or XXX-T with a stock motor would turn. the dirt oval is more fun to me but I needed a break form the dust, and constant set up work involved to stay on top. I'll return one day, when I miss it enough, to deal with the frustraition. I used groved tire allways on the rear, with 4 groves in a row, and angled "slash" groves cut bewteen the areeas between the out side rows on the far edge of either side of the tire, (sort of like a real spirnt cat tire) up front I would leave them trued at first, and then add two groves neer the outer edge of the tire if the car pushed, most often I would use three groves up front, (NO SLASHES!) GROVES on the foams are basicly your fine tuning. for traction compound some used pargon, but I found that simply washing the tires after every round with wattewr and then rubbig in a liberal amount of GO-JO creamy hand cleaner, rubbing in in till it fully liquifies, them wiping it draywith a clean shop rag worked very well, seems the tires liked to be keept clean and moist more than anything. continued OVAL4EVER 06-23-2003, 03:14 PM when doing this, try to take a good stomp of the throttle for one practice lap right before the race to clear any excessive GO-JO from the groves, and be gentle the first 2-4 laps till the tire settles, then it's WFO all the way! tires just are slick for the first few laps till the slim works out, not bad just iffy, depending on how much excess you applied. with parragon the tire slowly deteriorates it's traction steadily throughout the race as the compound attract excessive dirt, then the dirt is thrown away taking the compound and it's stickky slowly away. so the GO-JO is more consistant realy, you just have to develope a knack for appling it, to avoid the hole shot blues, so you can go all out from the tone, and traction acctually gets better over the first 30 seconds, and it remains through the whole race. this was on indoor Ohio Black clay, (pond bottom) and works well on any damp clay, Some could, but I never could use foams to any degree of sucess on dusty sand /dirt/caly outdoor tracks, and used proline holesjhots, in M@ and M3 in the rear and wide body 4 rib M3's up frnt on wide wheels, and on occasion used losi sprints in red or pink, and road hawgs up front to deal with massive oversteer. sorry long winded, book huh? BOWTIE1 06-24-2003, 01:06 AM OVAL4EVER sweeeeeeet that is a lot of stuff i didnt know thanks for posting it long is good ill never complane about reading a llot to get something out of it do u still have your oval stuff????do u have any pic's of the tires????? but i am going to try the go-jo thing hehehe ill let u know how it works for me tho thanks again for posting all the good info :) BOWTIE1 06-24-2003, 12:54 PM woooohooo i get my new motor tomorrow hehehe a MT12 to go in the car now what pipe to run ?????? vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
