Pancarman and redbaron,
Just talked to Wallyworld, and he verified that there will be a stock buggy class at the Grand Opening offroad race this Saturday. Trophies for 1st thru 3rd. Yes, it was an oversight.

spieles: This is only our 3rd race on the track. Most standard set-ups work well. Just a little tweaking for driver preference. Tires so far have been, Holeshots,X2000,T2000,IFMAR Pin. I feel the track will eventually change to taper pin or Sq. fuzzies.

I hope this helps.

Sweet day of racin. Wish we had a little larger turn out, still had a great time though. I think the guys at summit are getting it together better each week. Thanks summit crew for listening to us racers and continuing to strive for race efficiency.

What does everyone think about changing the track layout. I think we might want to plan one soon.

I might be getting a rally car could we start a class ?
is the hpi super rally elec or nitro ?
rally would be cool
thom

The HPI Super Nitro Rally is a nitro car. I have one, and was looking forward to running it, until I heard about the gas ban. I still need to talk to Dale and find out if nitro has been banned, or just nitro 'racing'. I'd still like to spend $5 and take a few laps with it just for fun sometime.

Although the SNR is gas, back when HPI hosted a user forum, there were people who had cobbled together a Super Electric Rally car. The SNR is basically a modified HPI Nitro Monster Truck, which was also offered in the Electric Monster Truck version. So, thanks to the commonality of HPI parts, SNR + NMT + EMT = SER (with a little bit of creativity and not much money).

Even though the HPI board has been dissolved, I still have contact information for the person who put in the most effort in creating the SER. Apparently, it is a great offroad car with excellent jumping ability(something, unfortunately, the nose-heavy SNR isn't very good at). The HPI staff even indicated that they were going to look into releasing a production version, although that's somewhat unlikely due to the low-volume nature of rally anyway.

HPI also makes a belt-driven 1/10th scale electric rally car, and there is a conversion kit for the Associated TC3. You might have seen Ben experiment with a half-rally version of the TC3 two Sundays ago.

Rally racing would be a lot of fun, despite how ugly all the body styles are . . .

Guys i had a Ball.. Got Home.. And Sunday found out that my Speedo was not Set right.. A Track change would be good.. some guys seam to have some very fast cars.. and us On a Budget cant really Race with thim or keep up in that fact.. 4wd looked like a good class to be in watching 2 of the cars clear the Triple... That was really cool. I have a Few Pic that we might want to put on the site. or what ever.. Let me know who to send them too.. might see you guys in a few weeks..

pancarman01, I guess there are several ways to look at the fast guys thing. It's not always about the price of your equipment, that is one of the nice things about off-road.
Like all racing,NASCAR,Motocross, etc. It's about practice, setup and mechanical condition of your equipt.
For instanse my son won Stock truck with $25.00 2400 batterys,a used truck and old hand me down stuff from dad.If you looked at hir tires you would see half the tread is missing from the one year old tires he was running. I'm not talking my son's stuff down. It is really about how much time you put into your car not the money.
Just keep researching setup for your car, keep it in top condition and practice, practice, practice. AND HAVE FUN

.............Later man.

Redbaron,
I agree... I'm learning (or is it re-learning?) things every time I race. One of the biggest things I am learning is to check your equipment, and take care of the details. I've dropped out of qualifiers in the last 2 races because of things like a solder joint coming loose on the motor, the crystal coming out of my receiver, and a cell (yes... a cell) being ejected from my battery pack because of a hard landing. All of these potential problems should be caught by a pre-race inspection of the car before putting it on the track. I also discovered that I had probably way overgeared my buggy, and wondered why I had no punch off the jumps. Remember, if you drop out of a qualifier early, you just lost a lot of track time that will help improve your driving.
Another idea that I just had... if you are having trouble with a specific section of the track, go to that spot on the track when you go out to marshall the next race. Check how the other drivers are handling that section... but remember to marshall first, watch the race second.

Greg,
Our track is pretty hard packed... not a lot of loose dirt. In buggy, Proline holeshots work for me, and I know some guys are using Losi pink taper pins, or Proline evil twins. Don't quote me as a expert though... I'm far from it. Maybe some other racers will chime in with their choices, and what to run in truck class.

pancarman01, We will check out your car this weekend. I'm sure we can get you hooked up. The monster stock is a good motor it's just a little fussy on gearing. It's what I run.

Man I hope it don't R--N this sat & sun.

I tried the monster in my HPI RS4 MT and it didnt do very well but I also used the stock pinion.

redbaron
06-11-2003, 12:39 PM
airborn: The monster stock is a high rpm/ low torque motor. I drop at least three teeth in pinion from P2K2 gearing. The stoch pinion you mentioned, is that for a 27 turn stock motor? or the motor that came in the truck? some kits come with low cost mods and gearing would be quite a bit diff. Does your RS4MT have bearings or bushings?

airborn
06-11-2003, 12:43 PM
the MT did not come with a motor just the 23 tooth pin. I have full bearings in the MT too. I have had good power with my GM 27 turn purple bull motor.

Has anyone tried proline edge or Losi 8 rib tires?

If the 8-ribs are the standard equipment on the Matt Francis truck, then I know one racer last week was having good success with them.

Put this setup in your car. As far as pitting out side ask phil or dale to use their canopy. I don't have the wanks #. Track is wet will most likely be dry by sun.
