We will bring the offroad cars and the oval stuff - and run whatever has the most people.

See ya there

Hmmmmm Oval racing= 123 trun 123 trun 123 turn and that is all there is to that
if you can't see that oval is the simplest form of racing then you have never tired Road course racing weather with jumps or not it is much more challenging(sp)

real men with poor vision and reflexes race oval.......haha

only people that dog on any type of other racing have a narrow talent. just because u can't race anything else doesn't mean u should dog it. a real driver can drive any race any time, and be competitive. i never dog any type of racing. u try racing a car pulling as many g's as an oval car for 500 laps. we'll see how easy it is.

Karl, the oval track got the best days to race alright but that was because the owners kept on working at it. when they first opened up the first few weeks they only had enough cars to have practice. They went to other tracks and gave out fliers and tried to promote it until it worked. The onroad on the other hand got put on thuesday night and every other sunday how much intrest do you supose that could get do you think somone new could be interested enough on every other sunday if they can't come on tuesday night. The fact is to have a big crowd you have to get everybody talking good about the place, they have to enjoy the peole they race with, and it has to be on the right day sunday seems to be the right day from what i have seen. You will get your racers happy or their will be no racers.

I think that saturday is a good day to race. you have to get the guys to like the track before they come and race it, if they don't like it and don't show up to race its not our loss its theres. we should just have fun with out them. no one has to like what someone else likes its there choice on what ever they run. if they dont like it chances are they wont run it.

Lee, I agree with you on the fact that oval was promoted differently than on road. But, it seems to me that no matter what you do, someone will complain, and not like it.

I truly believe that, what happens alot is that new drivers want to race on road but quickly find out that it is pretty hard. Everyone must agree Oval is easier than most other forms of rc racing. Yes, it is competitive and presents it's own challenges. But for the raw beginner, it is easier to learn and have fun at. And lets face it, some poeple will struggle with on road no matter how long they do it. Over the last few years I have seen a trend. New guys spend big money to race on road only to find out that it is hard. They break their cars and get discouraged. Alot of these give up and sell their stuff. But, some guys then try oval, and find out that it is easier for them. They race oval and have fun. They still want to race road course, but are scared to go back to it because of the difficulty.

I have proposed to Dale and Phil, that in the fall they have three forms of racing.

1) Oval for the oval guys, and for people that want to try a simpler form of racing.

2) Stadium truck/Buggy on carpet. This is what I believe is a great stepping stone to get to road course. Plus it is also a lot of fun. It is not as quick as 1/12th and touring, but teaches the basics of road course.

3) On road racing for the on road guys. This is probably the most technical form of racing.

Please understand that I have raced all of these forms of racing. I am speaking from expierience. I started racing dirt oval with a Tamiya Frog in the mid 1980's. I then got into stadium truck with the Losi JRXT in the early 1990's. I ran some oval with a RC10L3. Now I like to run touring and some offroad. I can tell you which is easier and which is harder. I didn't just grab a touring car, and have at it. I started with something simpler.

We can't expect to get alot of new people interested in this great hobby, if it is too hard. Or they get beat every week. I want to promote this hobby, and get new people interested in it. But I don't expect them to learn everything in a few weeks. It takes time, and multiple forms of racing to allow new people to develope. I believe that, then we will see an improvement in the turnouts at our races.

Karl.

Karl, alot of us have experience with all scales. I also have done most at one time or another. Some before most of you were even in R/C. But I can say that they all have there own challenges. One is only better or harder to each persons own ability and preference. But when you travel alot you see what makes a track successful. They tend to stay with basic types or scales. It seems that most have one or more of the following.

Off Road electric
Off Road gas
Oval
On road electric
On Road gas

Dirt oval is not a common class anywhere except full scale stock cars. Another factor in success that I've seen elsewhere is the race days. Friday nights, Saturday nights, and Sundays are what seems to work for most. Saturday racing is great but needs to start later in the afternoon. Alot of people work either Sat. till noon or all day.

Paul,
I think what Karl said earlier, then later edited, was that the oval will be different somehow. Hard to say what that means.
I find it hard to believe that only after a few weeks of the d.o. being open, and after rainy weather that they are gonna get rid of the oval already. I guess we will have to wait and see.

Oh yeah Paul, I am trying to find rubber tires for the dominators to run at your track on sunday's, but those are hard to come by. All I have are foams and capped tires.

I just hope there will be some sort of oval at summit, at least for a couple more weeks, I just haven't been able to make it to race there yet.

otto_3478s

Corey, why not just ask Jason L? He's got like four Dominators now. Im sure he'd be willing to sell you a pair. Not sure though.

Hey Corey, the green caps I had on mine seemed to be close when the track was still green. Maybe know with a couple of weeks on the track it might come in more. So what is going on up at the FT. I have been out of town, and this weekend is my 16th aniv. Are they taking it out?
I know Paul was planing a trip up there with jerry and some guys. I think that would be neat. I did get a Enforcer, still havent touched it yet. I want to make the trip to the FT. This is my busy season at work being in the Automotive Reconditioning Products bussiness. It is hard to make plans to run someplace then come in to work and fly out.

As most of you know, earlier this spring, the outdoor offroad track at Summit R/C Raceway was reworked to create a combination Dirt Oval and Offroad track. Several jumps were built in the infield of the oval for the offroad portion of the combination track. A good portion of the oval was also utilized as straightaways for the offroad course.

It has been decided at this time to return the outdoor dirt track to an offroad only layout. With the space restrictions of a combination track, the offroad course could not be configured in such a way as to provide an offroad track of the type that the racers wanted.

Racing this Saturday will be held as scheduled on the current track layout, for both offroad and dirt oval racing. Track is open at 9 AM, and racing starts at Noon. On the race calendar posted at the track and the website, there was a Memorial Day Dirt Oval race scheduled for this Sunday, May 30. This race has been canceled. Stay home this Sunday, watch the Indy 500, and see the 1-2 finish by Scott Sharp and Sarah Fisher. (that's not the track's prediction, simply a personal opinion :))

At this time there is no set timetable for the changeover of the track, but work could begin as soon as this weekend, after the racing. The track will attempt to keep you informed as best they can on the website, and through these Hobbytalk boards.

The best thing I can tell you is to check on e-bay for YZ-10 wheels. I quess yok made a TC that uses the same hub. I dont know the name of it. I can tell you that the axle from a rc-10 fit. But the front rims would be something to make. Or you could run 2.0 all around. I was playing around with a few things to make something work. But I still think the caps will hook up. I was using them on mine. The track was still to rough for the car. But we worked on the track.

Start with standard set-up. check the associated web site for set-ups. I run Losi so I can't help on set-up.
Tires Proline holeshots or IFMAR Pins on rear. Proline edge or Losi Directionals on front.

hope this helps.

Is that RTR 3 a nitro car? If so we have not been permitted to run nitro at this point. It's a noise thing.

Yea, I think it is great.
It sounds like we will be able to make the off-road track something great. Something that will draw racers from other areas. I will do what ever I can to help make things work.
I'm getting more info tonite and will pass it along.

Ron, Dust off that Off-roader and come-out and race.
The Losi XXX-BK2 is a sweet ride.
