I saw it when it first came out. It's actually pretty good. The premise is interesting (a good blend of sci-fi & horror). Think "Hellraiser" in space.

The premise for the film was totally spooky and entranced me enough to try to watch it several times when it came on HBO. I never made it through to the ending. Not because it was too scary, I just couldn't get interested.

I tried to watch it in a hotel room and fell asleep.

I thought it was worth a buck, or 2 hours on HBO. It won't win any awards, but it is, or can be, a scarey movie... :dude:

Movie has great sound. If you have a 5.1 set-up it will give you a feeling of self satisfaction in your sound system. Story just ok but not a waste of time. Rent don't buy.

I thought it was very good. It's not supposed to be full on action. Didn't get good reviews, but I enjoyed it. I especially thought the ships were great...

I saw it in the theatre, didn't really care for it. Started off with an interesting idea and then lost it about half way through.

How many "Lost in Space" fans realized that the Event Horizon sets were reused for the movie?

Didn't care for it. The resolution takes a turn from sci-fi to religious - not necessarily a bad thing, but the script didn't support it. You've got to let the audience know what the rules are you're playing by, and then stick to them!

Before that point, there is a modicum of creepiness, and the usual problem of chracters making bad decisions designed to place them in danger...the whole thing comes off forced. Some good actors (including Sean Pertwee, son of John Pertwee - the third Doctor) playing uncharismatic roles. The film has some beautiful set designs, but so many that they don't add up to a credible environment. The title ship is too aggressively designed to be wondrous to the eye to take it seriously as a real ship.

Beyond that, forgettable.

I've seen it before and it was on again tonight on Sci-Fi Channel. I find when I watch this movie, that my brow is furrowed the whole time as I try figure out WTF this movie wants to be. Dreamer's got it right, set-up for one thing makes for sloppy pay-off if you go the other way. No rules causes confusion.

Is it that FTL or getting too close to black holes makes humans go mad and turn into professional masochists? Or did the EH really go to Hell? Hyperspace makes Clive Barker look like a girlscout? What? It's just so dumb I can't get my mind around it. When the blood starts spraying and pouring everywhere, I couldn't help but laugh out loud it was so absurd. What a waste of a great set design.

There's an unreleased director's cut that is like 25min longer; presumably that addresses some of these issues. Then again, Anderson may have massacred the original screenplay in making the film. I thought it was a mess, but still bought it on DVD because some sets, plus the ship miniature stuff, looks so awesomely good. Great example of a movie where I'd love to see the model stuff recycled into something worthwhile.

I'm with the bored crowd.

Terrific premise, good cast, impressive look and an engaging first half hour. After that, it's realllllly tough to stay interested. This one will have you nodding off or reaching for a magazine.
