View Full Version : Good stock brushes?
terminator e 04-08-2003, 10:05 PM All the batches of stock brushes we have used lately, just stink everything from the 4499,767, 766 even the old faithful green putnam cant find anything that works,i have been recutting year old brushes just to make power! any of you stock guys know where to get a good brush.
rolloutwheel 04-08-2003, 10:50 PM My sentiments exactly,,, I've been using old E brushes that I had bought in bulk,, these are the pre-big brush shortage ones... actually been using the same pair most of the season in 4 cell stock, just re-serrating them,, I don't know, I've got all kinds, some work not too bad, but these E's just seem to pull way better than anything else,, they worked well with the green2's, mid2's, p2k's,, I know a lot of guys have success with what you've stated, these have just worked better for me, using with monsters and green3's....I still never win ,but the motors ain't half bad, lol

I havent noticed a difference in performance with 767s as of yet. I bought a new pair saturday, so we will see if there is a bad batch going around.
burbs 04-09-2003, 12:55 AM ive been using 767's in my monster motors since they cm out and they pull 70+ for power on fantoms dyno all the other brushes havent been close
Danny B 04-09-2003, 01:07 AM Eric,
We haven't had any trouble with Putnam brushes. I built quite a few motors at Snowbirds, all were pretty good. I assume you are running monster stocks. What kind of set-up are you using?? I can share some of the stuff that I have been doing...and maybe Mr. Putnam will chime in with some thoughts. I know I have seen some bananas patches of 4383's lately.

Mark Recio 04-09-2003, 11:31 AM Danny B,
Bananas good, or bananas awful?
Thanks,
Mark
Mayhem Racing 04-09-2003, 12:55 PM Lightspeed #3910 or 3917 are great I use them in all my motors green, monsters. 65 power out of the green machine and 67 out of the monsters. Rember not all fantoms read the same so a 70 power on someones dyno might be a 65 on another. Give them a try.
If you cant find them I have tons in stock.

Shane, bring some of those with you to Chilli. I may need them.
Todd Putnam 04-09-2003, 04:00 PM Terminator: You may have a problem elsewhere, with a lathe, spray, etc; if no company's brushes are working for you. I can't speak on behalf of other companies, but the consistency in our brushes has been excellent from Keystone for the past year.
At the Snowbirds, we had 6 out of 10 motors in 19 turn, including top 4 qual. and top 2 finishers. This is the 4th year in a row we've won the 19 turn class. We also TQ'd and Won Stock as well. My point is you can't take on the Nation's best with an inferior product and yeild these results. We also just ran the St. Roch Classic in Canada this past weekend, where we TQ'd and Won both Stock and 19 turn again. I've built motors throughout both of these races and have not seen a problem.
Feel free to contact me and we can discuss what you're doing. It might be something simple that is easily corrected.
Hope this helps...
rather be racin 04-09-2003, 04:57 PM todd.. i can covor terminator E on this one his lathe cuts smoother than glass.. the best ive ever used.. and we built motors the same way we always have.. In a green 3 motor that has always been about 64- 65 watts.. we couldnt get no more than 59 out of it.. i dont knwo whats going on.. i hope we can find something.. thanks for your consern.

DynoMoHum 04-09-2003, 05:47 PM I have had good results with several differnt types of brushes that I've purchased within the past month or so... Putnam brushes, as well as the new Trinty 99+ compound brushes. Basicly I'm making as much or more power then I ever have, I see no indication of any problems with the brushes I've been using.
DynoMoHum 04-09-2003, 05:51 PM Have you tried another dyno to get a second opion? Maybe something's changed in the dyno...
erock1331 04-09-2003, 06:18 PM Hey Chris, after you guys cut a motor caliper it on both ends and make sure it's not cutting on an angle. i have seen guys whose comms are clean but their bit is off causing the com to be out of
round. Also check the com diameter less than 2.7 it seems the Monsters lose their power. Plus anything less than that you run the risk of breaking your bit.
I have good results with Putnam Greens, 767's and 766's in my Monsters.
Xpressman 04-09-2003, 07:00 PM It sounds like it is more dyno problem if you are both having trouble. You might have done too many pulls back to back and heated up something inside. The dyno could have gotten moved a funny way and something inside isn't making a good connection. Or the power supply just isn;t up to snuff anymore. I have bought Putnam brushes from a number of different stores and used them to qualfy 8th at my first national level race at the 3rd of the triple crown in Mass. I was also the only one in the top 20 driving a XPRESS. (a shameless plug) And those brushes were bought there.
I will say this and this is NOT directed to any one manufacture or distributor. I have noticed that some bulk packages, from ANY company, that some of the brushes are getting beat up. Just a side note and something to look for.

Manny 01-19-2005, 05:36 PM Hey ET, are you from WV? If so, I think we know each other well. If he doesn't check this board, does anyone know how I could contact him?
burbs 01-19-2005, 07:25 PM wow.. bringing up a old dead thread.
Aren't about 90% of small co.s brushes bag-n-tag anyway? You're either getting 767's or 4499's.All from Keystone, and they do this as a sideline.

I would second this opinion, other then Putnam and Finishline Brushes
