flyingfrets 06-04-2003, 06:58 PM Hey guys,
I will continue to ship as I get the kits from Mike Evans but I may not be very communicative for awhile...$49,455.00 in family possesions & 18 years worth of model collecting (including the very Jupiter 2 model that inspired me to do this kit) were auctioned off by the S.O.B. running the storage bin where I kept them even though I was making monthly payments. Needless to say, I will be busy with a lawyer in the coming weeks.
BTW, if anybody has an extra Jupiter 2 model, JL Space Pod & JL Chariot they want to sell (or trade a crew for), let me know... :(
Thanks,
'Frets
Pygar 06-04-2003, 07:37 PM Maybe you could find out who bought the stuff and let them know what happened. If they know the sale is no good they may want to be co-operative. At the very worst they may still have some of the stuff...

starmanmm 06-10-2003, 07:56 AM Flyingfrets,
Got both sets yesterday and I would like to say that I appreciate the time and the work that you had put into this project.
You had a lot of obsticles to over come, but I must say that the fruits of your work do show well with this project.
Congradulations on a fine product.
Now I can complete my diorama!
Thanks again!
flyingfrets 06-11-2003, 01:37 PM Starmanmm, I'm glad everyone seems to like them. I would say the kit has been a success & there WILL be a follow-up, so stay tuned...
DR. PRETORIOUS 06-11-2003, 02:13 PM When is the next shipments going out? I still haven't received mine yet.

Ok young man.... what do you have up your sleeve?
Let's get some hints now!
flyingfrets 06-12-2003, 08:44 AM Dr. P...Mike Evans says he's finishing the final 5 castings, so I hope to have them in about a week. I would be shipping within 2 days of receiving them from Mike.
starmanmm...think Season 3 (no, it's NOT Tybo!) if I can get the engineering right.
flyingfrets 06-21-2003, 02:42 PM *UPDATE*
Just received the final shipment of castings from Mike Evans. I still need to inspect, inventory & package the kits, but anyone who's still waiting...they'll be going out in about a week.

ham1963 06-21-2003, 02:44 PM Thanks for the udates Frets
I'd start putting a pro quality CA in every lock, and access system that guy had at his storage facility. Next, some CRC sprayed on the windshields of all his vehicles, a private eye getting photos of everything the guy does, and of course the IRS audit. Go to the press and get this guy generally known around town as untrustworthy, and about to go down. that should dry up any investors, and get the interest of the police. As a last resort, ask the local biker gang to do some special modifications on his face.
Was there ANY 'Due Process' ?? Were the police called? Any friends in high places?
flyingfrets 06-24-2003, 12:30 PM Y3a - unfortunately, the laws in New Jersey give more rights to the lowlifes who perpetrate crimes than their victims. My lawyer found that everytime I made a payment, it was applied to the most recent charges, not the oldest. In some states that is illegal, but not here. Since there was a balance from February of $16.00 I kept getting socked with $10.00 late fees on it and every third late fee, they tacked on a $50.00 "auction fee." None of which is specified in the contract I had with the guy, so the lawyer says it was not only illegal, we were set up in such a way that he was making it damn near impossible to ever catch up.
Everything you mentioned has occurred to me at one time or another, but since this G.D.S.O.B. ruined our lives, I'd get the most satisfaction out of following whatever legal recourse is open to me and put this greedy, selfish M.F. out of business for good. It may take awhile, but as the Klingons have always said, "Revenge is a dish best served COLD."
Yea, New Jersey has an extremely corrupt court system, from the little small claims type to the idiots in your state supreme court. I think you have to have a felony before you can become a judge. They are the ones who ignored the election laws so a different corrupt politician could run for office when the old candidate went to jail, or resigned(?)
Have you thought of renting another shed from that guy and filling it with opened cans of sardines and rotten eggs? The smell will ruin everything in the facility! That stuff really ticks me off. Being NJ, are you sure revenge killings are against the law? LOL
ham1963 06-24-2003, 04:53 PM And I thought that Kentucky was bad. For example the Gov. can pardon you before you are judge guilty. Good luck Don hope.
flyingfrets 07-01-2003, 01:21 PM *UPDATE*
Shipping on the final crew kits will be delayed a few days. I should have the boxes for the kits Thurday or Friday (the folks I get 'em from are waiting for their delivery) and will ship by Saturday at the latest.
Sorry 'bout that...

Steve244 07-01-2003, 01:25 PM So how was it for you? Did you break even? Are any kits still left at any retailers? (One has already shown up on E-bay (not mine!)).
thanks again!
flyingfrets 07-01-2003, 01:49 PM Hi Steve,
I believe "Cult" still has a few. The Modeler's Vault will be getting 6 in this last shipment. I still have 4 kits unsold (if anyone's interested, contact me at flyingfrets@hotmail.com otherwise they're going to e-bay Monday).
Yeah, I was aware that at least one showed up on e-bay. Considering what the winning bidder paid, I'm assuming you'll see sh* *ty re-casts soon enough, but I guess that's the downside to doing a project like this.
Did I break even?... Seriously...I made a decent little profit. No, I'll never be independently wealthy doing this, but it was a project that I was gonna do for my own J2 anyway and I offered to make a few available to other folks who wanted them. The only downside to that is if you want to make multiple copies of something (as opposed to just scratchbuilding or sculpting one) is trying to engineer the kit so it can be cast in such a way that it won't hang up on the molds. That's about where I am with the Pod & Chariot projects right now.
I have to say, family issues getting in the way aside, I thoroughly enjoyed all the correspondence, the BB chats, contacts & friends I made during the planning, sculpting and sale of this kit. This kit never would've been a reality with all of you, and many heart-felt thanks to each of you.

Steve CultTVman Iverson 07-01-2003, 04:26 PM Yes... I have a few left and will have them availible through the site... just gotta find the time to update the Hobbyshop... got lots of new stuff to add, but first I have to clear out the backlog of orders from when I was on vacation.
Steve
ham1963 07-01-2003, 05:08 PM Hey it was one of my sets that was on that e- B-- place I needed to recover some cash from Wonderfest. Wife said I spent to much, so I decided to keep peace in the family and make a profit also. Thanks Steve244 for the pics I think they helped me sale the crew.

Ahhh...but does she know you've got another one coming in this shipment?!!?
flyingfrets 07-06-2003, 07:02 PM *UPDATE*
Half the remaining kits went out (I finally got the boxes, but now my printer cartridge is dry, so I'll have to replace that). The balance of the kits should go out before the end of the coming week (or sooner if I can replace my ink cartridge). The recipients in this round of shipping are:
Bob Jaconetti
Dwayne Horton
Gerald Oehring
Thomas Vaccina
Mike Kaweski
Obviously, these are multiple kit shipments. If you don't see your name here, your kit is on the next (and last) shipment.
Thanks,
'Frets
flyingfrets 07-15-2003, 05:46 PM *UPDATE*
"Official" versions of this kit are SOLD OUT. If you find them anywhere other than on Cult's site or at The Modeler's Vault, you're probably buying a re-cast.
Thanks again to everyone for making this kit a success,
'Frets
DR. PRETORIOUS 07-23-2003, 06:15 PM Did the rest of the kits ship out yet?
flyingfrets 07-23-2003, 06:57 PM Yes they did. If you don't have it by Saturday, e-mail me at flyingfrets@hotmail.com and I'll have to put a postal trace on it. Also include your name & mailing address to make sure they were shipped to the correct place (all kits were shipped to the addresses supplied with the original orders), but better safe than sorry.
Thanks,
'Frets
DR. PRETORIOUS 07-23-2003, 11:34 PM Can you post whose kits shipped?
flyingfrets 07-24-2003, 05:13 PM 12 kits were shipped between Saturday & Monday. 8 went out Saturday from my local post office and the other 4 were shipped from my office in Atlantic City on Monday.
I have already received e-mail confirmation that the 8 kits that left Saturday arrived at their destination.
The 4 that were to go out of the Atlantic City post office came back to my office this morning marked "incomplete or insufficeint address." Besides a name, address, town & zip, I don't know what was missing, but will the following people please contact me at flyingfrets@hotmail.com
Eric Mackey
David Mayo
Mark Lindsey
John Hamilton
Please include your name, COMPLETE address, and your BB screen name. These are the final 4 kits to be delivered and I don't want to see this venture go sour now. Due to an unrelated family emergency, I will be taking tommorow off. If you can get this information to me ASAP, I will reship tommorow.
Thank You,
'Frets
ham1963 07-24-2003, 05:26 PM Frets you got mail ( sounds like a good line to a movie HUH?)
John
flyingfrets 07-24-2003, 05:31 PM Thanks John. You're squared away. Kit will be heading your way tommorow.
DR. PRETORIOUS 07-24-2003, 09:54 PM Please ship to:
Eric Mackey
22136 Virginia
Eastpointe, MI 48021
flyingfrets 07-24-2003, 11:08 PM That's 2 now...Dr. P that is the address I attempted shipping to based on my invoice info. I don't know what the A.C. Post Office is doing, but I will ship from Northfield tommorow. Haven't had a problem with them yet.
DR. PRETORIOUS 07-25-2003, 07:13 AM Yes that is the correct address, I have never had any problem before with it.
flyingfrets 07-25-2003, 11:53 AM Kits have been reshipped.

Zathros 07-29-2003, 11:48 PM Don, Thanks for the FINE job you didon these!..I assembled & painted the crew and they are Installed in my Polar Lights Jupiter 2 kit..However I DID notice what you said in your instruction sheet, that they MIGHT NOT look Correct anywhere other than at the viewport..one way I corrected this was cutting down the astrogator..they seem to look more in proportion that way to me, but WHAT do I know anyway?? In any case, a SUPERIOR job that IMO, SHOULD have been DONE by PL in the first place...As soon as I get the ol' Digital camera charged up, I will post photos..
EXCELLENT FIGURES!!! How do you sculpt the faces on such teeny heads? How do you paint the red trim on the suits, and where do I get Dr. Col. Smith uniform patches and trim? Good thing I'm not hard-core...Like someone who has sculpted 1/72 fingers!!!!
Since I modeled the "First Year" version Jupiter 2, which only had that fold out chair, I thought I'd position Don , fixing the Astrogator. This is less of a job than building the fold-out chair, and making a new main console. This is a companion model to my "gear down/SPFX interior".
It has gear UP, and an open lower level window. All I need to do is come up with an Athena, and some of that classic '60's metallic green paint.
The quality of these figures will make the Polar Lights Jupiter 2 display look bunches better. Lucky I remembered how I used to paint my D&D figures, USING WASHES. 2-3 coats over several days.
flyingfrets 07-31-2003, 11:33 AM I wore a 20X magnifying loupe for about 80% of the project. As far as painting the red piping at the shoulders and wrists, I painted the red first & used a 00 gauge brush to trim the red down to the correct width with silver paint. Easier than trying to paint red stripes that should be about the size of a hair!
Glad everybody liked 'em. If Polar hadn't given up / lost the LIS license, I had entertained the thought of offering them the masters of this kit for inclusion in future releases of the J2 but I guess it's a moot point now.
Zathros, as I stated several times over the last year, anything I do for the Polar J2 will have to be a compromise in scales since there are at least 3 scales used on the J2 so everything Polar wanted to fit in there would fit. Not a critisism, just a fact...
Hey, look at it this way...50 of us have really unique J2 kits now. Let other folks wonder how you got a crew in there!

flyingfrets 07-31-2003, 11:46 AM While we're on the subject of the latest (and last) recipients of the crew kit...Dr. Pretorius, did yours show up yet?
