Seems that everyone else gets a thread, why not the Mavericks? There wont be a ton of people, but hopefully a few of us can start turning heads at the track.
Discuss setups, and racing here.

I hope it doesnt rain saturday, I want to get the MOC in victory lane! :)

Yes this is a good idea. I hope it dosent rain on sunday I have some 6's and 7's that I need to use to get the 03' car ready for this mod season. Here is my latest carpet setup. If you want to see pictures of it go to the web site and it's under 03' racers rides or somthing. I think mine is the only one up there so far but if not I'm Dave.

Setup for carpet Oval in Stockton:
Front Springs: Left-Wolfe std Green. Right-Wolfe std Red
Lube: 50,000 wt mugen diff oil.
Castor: L-1* R-1*
IRS Block position: Left side-Longest position in the top hole. Right side-Short position top hole
Arm Angle: Left side-Keep the upper arm level with the lower arm. Right side- shim the outside of the arm with 2 wolfe 1/8" brass shims.
Wheelbase: Left side-Second hole from the top on the chassis and forward hole on the plate Right side-Second hole from the top on the chassis and back hole on the plate
Width: Left side-Wide position on the plate. Right side-Middle position on the plate
Center Shock Location: I used an IRS chassis brace standoff and had a ballcup on the shock. It was in the third hole from the front.
Center Shock: ASC shock, 50wt trinity oil, #2 piston, OLD Gold RC10 front spring, .71 MIP gold shaft, 1-2 mm droop adjusted with ball cups
Side Shocks: Left-Gold Spring, 30 wt oil .39" piston size RPM med ball cup on retainer side. Right- Blue spring, 30wt oil, .36" piston, RPM med ball cup on retainer side.
Side Shock Location: Middle hole on brace
Pod: STD asc pod not offset.
Battery Location: All the way back!!!!!!
Electronics Location: All the way forward on the battery tray. Look at the picture on the MOC 03' driver car picture, it will show you how crazy it is.
Antenna Position: On the battery tray. This one is what makes the whole car work right. Because the antenna builds an electromagnetic field. When the car is turned on the field that is generated helps add weight to the LF to get the car to turn HARD!!!!!!
Tires: RF: Black LF: Grey RR: Grey LR: White. All Jaco and cut to 2.22.
Body: Protoform MC 02 HD
Motor: Arcor 19t, 41 108
Track: Stockton carpet oval about 250-260' flat small bumps on the front straight building #1.

Car was very fast. This is the setup that I finished the day with. I had a first place car but a motor that had the endbell on backwards prevented me from taking the win. OH well.

You will love the car Todd. I have fallen in love with the frontend. It is by fer one of the most tuneable chassis out there, due to the front plate setup. I would just reccomend to anyone that if you plan on using the front plate to tune the car with, which you should, then you would want to run the widest body avalible, that happens to be the 02 HD MC from protoform. I didn't have any clearence issues when moving my front plate around but I could see that to be a problem if your using a Intrepid or maby even a Grand Prix.

Cody: Thanks for starting a thread! There are getting to be more and more of the Maverick Oval Chassis out there, we are quietly making our presence known! You're really enjoying the 4 cell stock racing! What type of track do you run on? You've been up in the top 3 lately, haven't you? Maybe you could share one of your MOC set-ups?

There are pics of Dave's car on the site: MOC-3 Racer's Rides-Dave Very clean and well built!

Pictures of Kevin's car will be up next week. I've heard he's done them up in all red and black, should be sweet looking!

I've also put Phillip Owen's asphalt set-up on the site: '03 Maverick Oval Chassis set-ups He won the 19 turn class at Hobbyworld his first time out with the new car!

Todd: I know you'll be running towards the front with the new chassis, you've got the original version dialed in really well.

Metrodog: Thank you!

I like the 4 cell stuff now. Cheap and fun! I run on a flat asphalt track, about a 165 foot center line. Heres the 4 cell setup:

Body: Protofrom Monte Carlo HD with home made wing
Tires: Jaco Purples All the way around
Front end: Associated Long Kingpins, Wolfe axles, Wolfe Non progressive white springs on both sides, 1º negative camber on right side, 1º positive camber on the left. 0º toe in. Raceways MFG adjustable castor blocks.
Side Shocks: VCS shocks with 40 wt oil, blue left spring and silver right spring.
Center Shock: AE TC# threaded shock with 35 wt. oil and a red truck spring thats been cut to size.

Standard pod with offset hub on the right side, stock hub on the left side, 3/16 inch spacer. Kimbrough rear ride adjusters.

Battery position is all the way back and all the way to the left, and the reciever sits on the reciever pack mount since i dont use the RX Pack.

Cody: Thanks for posting your set-up. Short, flat, asphalt oval racing, just what I like! Most of the tracks we run on around here are considered medium to large size ... That's fun too, but I do enjoy the smaller, high lap count, bullring style racing!

How did your racing go this weekend?

Didn't you do up your car with orange anodizing? Can you send me a few pictures for the website?

I had to work this morning, so I couldnt make it to the track in time :(
I anodized a few of the parts, but i bought some new stuff like shocks, pod pieces, etc. so I need to get those done. Im trying to get a hold of the anodizing shop so I can get it finished. Right now the car just has blue hubs, shock adjusters, center shock, motor mount, etc. but when I get all of my orange stuff done it should be pretty trick.

My XXXNT is comepletely red, and it really turns heads, maybe the orange will look even better?

Todd,

Matt said the new chassis looked real good this weekend. 2nd place in 19T? Not bad for 1st time out of box.

Can't wait to get back out this weekend and bang some paint! Can't sit around too long, it looks as though Matt & Mike have their cars really dialed in.

Hey Eli, Tim Dilg set a new one in qualifying in stock, think a 59, 4.01 something. That was it. Plus, that one guy who usually puts down the track bite wasn't there, so the track was like ice till about an hour before qualifying! I heard he was out of town! LOL!

We'll see if I got any heat left in these old bones. We may get Eli back for a weekend just to show us how bad we really are. About the spraying traction on the track. We did it last weekend Todd. As you noticed though the track was really bad from Fridays off-road guys. It took quite a while for it to come in.

Eric is right though - you are still PUNKS - so enjoy it while ya can !!!!!

Hey Jake, if you design anything, it needs to be a 1/4" thick FRONT bumper for Eric's car! Now you know why I had to order another bumper from ya this week, cause Eric already used the 2 I had in stock! Yeah, I hit him in the feature, but that ain't nothin compared to the punishment he puts on those poor defenseless walls! LOL! Got my parts I ordered from ya today, can't wait to get the new car back out Saturday. I'll let you know how things go!

Later,

P.S. - MIGHT not hit Eric this week, seems as how we're runnin different classes! Of course, there's still practice! LOL!

i put a zillon laps on our cars last year and not once broke a bumper!
sheared screw off twice. both times were full punch t-bone the other guy,i had nowhere to go! and i don't use any foam in the nose either!!

eric_kav
03-13-2003, 10:29 PM
To be honest...I've been through 3 bumpers since November!!

The first one was the weekend of the big Snowbirds warmup when an Open Mod driver drove under the rear end of my car and planted me into the far wall. I not only busted the bumper i bent the shit out of my IRS motor pods. You know you're having a bad day at the track when you're using the hammer to straighten parts out.

The 2nd one was attributed to Todd! He calls it a "radio glitch"! They always seem to happen though as I'm passing his slow ass! Go figure!

I'll take all the credit though for the 3rd one. Don't remember the details but actually busted that guy in 2 places!

I guess if you're going to break shit, you might as well do it well! Believe it or not, I'm actually pretty fast as long as i can keep the bumper on the car!

Back from the day of racing......

I qualified 2nd in 6 cell stock with just a regular ol' L3O, went the wrong way with springs in the main and DNF'ed. Qualified 2nd in 4 cell stock .01 fester than 3rd place. Main was a smooth race after the first lap, car was flat out awesome. It was all driving because me and the leader were so close all day. I passed him with around 2 minutes left and won by a few car legnths......I figured out gearing with a 4 cell car, with 6 cell i was running 116/24 and in 4 cell im running 96/28. Ill email you a setup later on Jake, its different than the one I posted here.

Im selling my Rocket chassis and keeping the maverick:)

Mel: Thanks for the update! Sometimes it takes a few runs to get a new chassis dialed in and "comfortable". 3rd place your first time out isn't bad by any means!

Sounds like Woody had a great first run on the chassis! Only 7 battery packs run on it in 4 Cell Stock, and he has a new track record, TQ, and a win .... NICE!

Todd Gross grabbed his third 2nd place in a row in 19 turn. And Mike D. finished in 2nd in 4 Cell Stock.

Keep up the good work at Ultra guys!
