Mike: Yeah, the Stiffener is a cool little piece. It will help with the super hard wall shots! The X-LRW Tray gets the battery waaaaay back towards the tire!

Katfish: Any luck today??

mine will be ready for minnreg when it counts! i'm going to use the new tray and put a set-up on it that i ran with my adx(rip) . if it stinks there is always ebay! ahahahahhahahhahahahahahaaha

my master plan is light weight fishing line and attaching it to boylans rocket ship and tag along for the ride! if i go 57 next week your gonna sell 5 more cars! if tinman would just give us some room to pass....he he sanding out the battery trays and mounting a new body and stuff stinks!

jake your packaging looks as good as A&E ..very nice.... and i like that rear pod also...wooooooooooooooo

Tinman: Good luck tomorrow! I hope it's not too cold for you out there this weekend (it's only 40 degrees outside right now!). Let me know how it goes for the first run on the new ride.

Katfish: Got the e-mail about the shirt ... I'll fix my mistake!

Davepull: If it wasn't for Phil and Tinman giving Katfish a solid run for his money every weekend, he might not have picked a Maverick for his new oval ride. The big question now is, will Katfish's crew let him pit with them still?? LOL

the real story was tinman..he stayed late on saturday and helped me fix my error when i built the car. i had the center shock mount way too far forward and it was giving me fits! with steves help ..we shortened the center shock mount and leveled the rear pod when placed on a tweak board. put a silva black spring in the center and 60 wt oil..steve went to dinner while i charged up a pack. from the first lap on after that the car was dialed! NIGHT AND DAY i went from 80 % on my dual rate with my adx car to 43% on the maverick car..same tire combo, same track. blazing fast through the corners, and by far the best handling car i have had the pleasure to pilot! but i owe this one to steve platt...the car just about drove itself around the track..came out on 4.1's and ended on 4.3's that also is a improvement. i'm very happy and i think there is some room to go faster..i cant wait to bolt a mod motor in the car! zoooooom zooooooom zooooooooom

any questions please email me wsell@cfl.rr.com or bring your car to tinman for set-up advice,lol.....

on a side note..phil owens wife was released from the hospital and is recovering at the house. that is the best news all weekend! phil was missed at the track ..

I am looking to organize a one weekend event at our outdoor rollerblading/ice rink this summer.

It is located in Providence Rhode Island.

The surface is VERY smooth, and I would say it is about 100X50 or even a little bigger.

Is this going to be a good race surface? Do you think there will be interest in runing at this event if tropies were awrarded, and it was on a nice warm weekend in June?

If so, what would you start off with for a setup on a Maverick 03'? (tires, oil, etc....)?

Thanks,
Michael Voccola

Way to go Katifsh! Man, that's good news from the East Coast!

Glad to hear you and the Tinman got things figured out and you were able to have a great first showing with your Maverick. When you get a chance, fax in your set-up sheet so I can post it on the site.

How did your chief mechanic end up his day?

News from the West Coast: Stockton Raceway, the Northwest Carpet Champs (our Snowbirds Warm-up Race). This race is run in a double event, two day format. Each day counts as it's own raceday, with two heats and the mains, then the scores are combined for the overall winner.

Kevin Osmon wins the overall in 4 Cell Modified. Winning the first day, and finishing 2nd on the second day. Nice work KOZ!

I ran in the 19 Turn class and had a good weekend. TQ'ed both days and won both days, taking the overall win. It was a fun weekend of racing. 19 turn had the largest field and it was great to run with all the guys who traveled up from Southern California and all the guys from Nor-Cal. I really enjoyed it.

Special thanks go out to Kenny from KC Racing, for loaning me some horsepower to run with. It's awesome when the chassis is dialed and can make full use of a top level motor! Thanks to Duane Silva at Silva Concepts for some great shocks and t-plates. Ran the same shocks all weekend (3 days worth), not a leak or a need to rebuild. And, thanks to John Foister at BSR for the sample tires he sent out for me to take a look at, they worked awesome!

Thanks to all the Guys who ran their Maverick Oval Chassis this weekend, on both side of the country.

Does the rear pod have rear steer ability such as the KSG and ADX cars?

katf1sh

the rear pod does not have a rear steer tuning option like adx or ksg.. i run the silva med t-plate with a .15 slug on it.. the car runs very well built right out of the box..

Katfish,

I was checkin out your setup on the website and noticed how you emphasized on running the center shock as short as possible. I was just wandering what effects it had on handling to make you like it so much better. On my '03, I always ran the longest shock shaft i could, and had some pretty good success with it on a 115' driveline, flat bullring. But I honestly never ran the short shaft on it, so I don't have any info to compare it too. Thanks for the input!

Todd Gross

P.S. - My '04 will be here Friday! Sweet!

Bruce: Thanks! Eric was blazing fast as always, but the first day he DNF'd. Kevin was right there to take the win. Second day Eric had better luck and was able to pull out a very fast run in the main. Kevin finished 2nd, which gave him the overall win in 4 Cell Mod for the weekend.

We sure had fun pitting across from Eric and Mr. Kisbey. I had no idea Mr. Kisbey was like a ninja, throwing death brushes across the pits and nailing people without even a sound ... it was awesome! He got me good, had me looking at my chassis for 5 minutes trying to figure out what made the noise ... he was laughing himself silly.

todd i built the car with a tall stand off and had the center shock mount placed in the 4th hole. there are 7 holes and it was in #4..the car had mad steering disease..way to agressive for this rookie i guess...

so taking steves advice we moved the stand off back to the 1st hole in front of the pivot socket. had to shorten the ball cups on my center shock to almost nothing. this did 2 things to the car..it changed where the weight transfered on the chassis and it took out all the pre load or pod droop. we made the pod so it sat level when placed on a tweak board. very little if any pod droop maybe 5 deg of droop. it made the car easy to predict and a lap and a half faster. i changed nothing else but where the center shock mounted on the chassis. if you look at the pic of jakes car his center shock is also mounted very close to the same locationg mine was. the weird thing is..i live 1200 miles away from jake and we both ended up with set-ups that were very close to the same. now that is scary! tinman ran his car outdoors and found he had to do the same thing with his center shock location. i'm not sure if this has to do with jake making the cross brace inline with the rear pivot socket or not. cars that need help turning usualy will start to move the center shock closer to the front. i'm not a rocket scientist and wont claim to be a wiz at chassis set-up by a long shot..but it was like a magic trick when i moved that center shock location. night and day to say the least..i picked up a lap and a half by changing that shock location..thats the reason why i suggest to be careful with the center shock mount.

again i'm using a the x-lrw battery tray and a straight up pod so i'm not looking for steering..if you run off set and the standard battery tray you may want to have your center shock mount forward. the good thing is the car has alot of adjustments that you can make. the bad thing is you realy need to know what they do! lol and i'm sure i could build the car with the off set pod and standard tray and go just as fast with some work. so dont be surprised if you see several different set-ups that work well for others. i'm going to suggest you start somewhere close and see how it feels to you. you can always build it like your 03 later..i know phil owen has a different set-up than i am running. he just hasn't been able to get to a track to try it yet. the best part is..we have a web site and jake is there at the shop to answer all our questions. we can all help each other go faster. and have some fun along the way.. i must say i am very happy with this car. still waiting on kevins set-up though..cough cough jake wins one lousy race and he posts his set-up in seconds, what up wit dat? he he

lets see a show of hands on who is going to run the birds and what classes..
i'm down for pro 19 t and 4 cell mod

Kat,

Hmmm, it's kinda funny how you said that a longer shock might be used w/ the standard tray and offset pod, cause that's the way my car is set up. The xlrw tray wasn't available in '03. I think i'm gonna give the standard pod setup a try first, due to the added left rear weight you get with the xlrw tray.

My theory behind the longer shock was by putting the mount closer to the front end, that the car would transfer more weight forward when you lifted off the throttle, therefore, giving the car more front end bite through those tight apex turns on my track. But then again, like you said, that's just my theory! LOL Anybody else got any opinions on this?

And about Jake, I think more and more people are findin out how good of a guy he is and how great he is to do business with. His customer service CAN'T be beat!

About the birds, can't make it this year. :( But I can always shoot for next year!

Thanks for the info!
Todd

yeah i think that theory holds water..on the track it has proved to be right on..let us know how it does on the track..we will just keep posting what we run until we realy hit on a must have set-up..if jake wins another race things might get interesting around here,lol..
