Roadsplat 03-03-2006, 12:42 PM ......Has anyone tried the newer Novak brushless motors? Like the 5.5 and 4.5R motors? I know most places limit them, but I don;t know if some places are unlimited?
We've run the 5.5 a couple of times. They are definitly fast. I'd say it'd compare to about a 6 - 8 turn motor. Maybe a little faster. A few are going to be getting the 4.5 but I have not seen one of those run yet. Should be pretty darn quick though.

How was the money offered up at the Novak race? I heard there were a few ways to earn some $$?
[QUOTE]
The money was offered up in the Fast 5, Dash for cash, the A-main, and in a 50/50.
The A-main cash was offered to the TQ in the form of a challange. Instead of starting on the Pole, Jaime took the challange, and started dead last (8th). By doing so, he got $20 for each postion he improved by the end of the race, and if he won, $500. At one point, I believe he was in the lead. He ended up taking $80 home.
The 50/50 was kinda neat. Everyone bought tickets, and then 5 #'s were drawn. Those five people, if they won their main, would take home a share of half the 50/50 money. One person ended up winning their main, and took home $300+ I think.
It was a really neat deal......I cant wait for next years!
 Mark
oldguy 03-03-2006, 02:54 PM Jamie Hanson did lead the A-main race for a few laps until be got caught-up in a turn #1 wreck caused by a back-marker. After being marshalled, he got back into the race finishing 4th. Jamie also had the fastest lap in the main at 3.44 seconds.
Marauder 03-04-2006, 04:49 AM Marauder: I thought the weather was always nice in your area? Good luck at the track today, hope you get in some fast laps.
Looking nice and being nice are two different things here. March winds kept me from being able to tell whether the car was actually pushing or being pushed to the wall on the tri-oval. Besides, I always heard it never rains in So-Cal?? Might consider a move if I can find a HOT Cali Sugar Moma.
tony 13 03-04-2006, 02:39 PM I am sure you could find a sugar momma in so cal. that place is full of plastic women with money. Its not supposed to rain in cali but as of this week we need to hang up tha cars and start running boats!!! One thing we dont have is tornados and hurricane's so I think your so cal sugar momma move is a wise one LOL :)

Awesome day at the track today for Carolina's Team Maverick, although the finish doesn't show it Brian Keeler and myself had a great day, both cars qualifying for the A main, but had some bad racing luck trying to get to the front, but we were coming! We'll get'em next week Brian.
Dodgefan23 03-05-2006, 11:15 AM Pepe, you were flying in the main!!! I tried to adjust for the cooling track, but just didn't go far enough. Next weekend let's go for a 1 - 2!!!
David Butts 03-05-2006, 07:14 PM Ran the 05 OPC for the first time yesterday. Set the left rear weight exactly at what I ran the slider at and only had to adjust the steering trim when I got to the track. Smoooooth is all I can say, I like this chassis, For the tracks I run it it will be just fine. Arrrrrrrr ya gonna run a Maverick or play catchup all day?
Oh yeah? Have ya heard Monica Lewinsky is gonna be in a new pirate movie?
jhseckinger 03-05-2006, 07:21 PM That should be one ugly of a sucker movie.
Hmmm, don't pirates like to smoke cigars? LOL
rcgen 03-05-2006, 08:06 PM I ran the 05 OPC in our 4300 brushless yesterday and finished around mid pack. I finally turned a 6.9 lap for a 350 runline track. My other 05 OPC is finally finished and will be putting the same setup as the brushless car except I am going to try an offset t-plate and pod. I want to see if there is a difference. It's great having to identical cars and just transfering setups to the other.
rcgen 03-05-2006, 08:08 PM What's with the pirates stuff? I pitting behind Butts(tm) yesterday and all I heard was "aarrrrrr" :p
mproy 03-05-2006, 10:59 PM Well folks race #1 with the Mini Mav is in the books. The Plattsburgh, NY Lake City Raceway aka the "Martinsville" bullring was the stage.
Set fastest single lap speed for the night.
Managed to pull off the win, thanks to a very opportunistic race finish with the leader shutting down with less than a minute with transmitter low battery.
eh, but the scorecard doesn't tell the tale, right? so it still counts as a win in my books.
M.P.
tony 13 03-05-2006, 11:41 PM I heard that move sucks :) out west we have a big blower that we use to clean the track and its nickname is Monica AAARRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!
CBear3 03-06-2006, 10:32 AM Well, ROAR regionals here are in the books. Turn-out was down presumably from the Novak race, so we only ran Stock and Brushless, so I had to turn the 19t car into a stock car real quick. Wound up 5th in stock, was a lap off the pace, but the car was planted. Just probably too much. Of course the touring car X-ray was rockin. Ran 3 laps faster than stock, 3 laps slower than Brushless, with a stock motor in it.
But I had a question...
A lot of you guys prefer the slider to the OPC (in general and on flat tracks in particular). I've got mine setup exactly like my OPC, with the first battery about even with the shock tower which is just one slot back from the front. I've got a GTX sitting on the back of the tray, in that last slot. Here's the problem:
I cannot make ride height to save my life. Maybe I got a little over aggressive with the sanding drum on the battery slots, but the sag on the left rear of the tray, made it nearly impossible to pass tech. I wound up at 7mm front and rear before I could get the thing close, and at that point I decided running the OPC with the 19t setup was probably better than running the slider that high.
Not all of you are running the banked tray, so how are the guys with the stock tray handling this? Thanks guys...
tony 13 03-06-2006, 02:24 PM what rear axle spacers are you running? Have you changed those out to get ride height? if you raise the rear of the car the front will lower in most cases hopefully dropping that 7 mm front height. Are your side shocks in good shape? Do your tires have too much staggar? Are the springs are the same on both cars as well as the oil? I have run both the banked tray as well as the regular slider and I have never had a problem with ride height.... check those things and if that doesnt do it post up. I am sure others will have suggestions for ya as well:)

JPH Racing 03-06-2006, 03:22 PM Wow, time to get caught up!
Ray: I saw a 4.5 run on 6 cells the other day, and all I can say is WOW! I'd like to see what one does in a mod oval car ... Looks like I'll have to do some testing very soon.
Mark: Sounds like the track knows how to put even more excitement into the racing and the event in general.
Oldguy: Jamie is a great racer, one fast dude!
Marauder: Too bad about the weather. We got rained out yesterday for our race too ...
Pepe & Dodgefan: Keep up the good work! Sounds like you guys are making good progress with the Mavericks.
Mr. Butts: Arrrrrgh, well done there!
Rcgen: Congrats on the 6.9! That's a big track!
MP: Take it any way it comes to you, a win is a win! Single fastest is great!
CBear: I've seen this a time or two when the left rear weight gets too light. Check the scales and please let me know the weights on the rear. Basically, when you put tweak into the chassis, it holds up the battery side of the car (actually, it forces down on the right side, thus putting weight on the left rear via the right side shock). Anyway, when the crossweight gets too low, or if you run reverse tweak, the left side isn't supported as it should be. Just something to check!
AC: Good ideas too!

We have a winner. Was running only a hair over 11 ounces on the left rear, when I went up to 12.5 like you guys had mentioned at Birds it evened out a lot.
AC, you were on the right track too. I had 20 thousandths (0.5 mm) of stagger before, and when I evened them out it helped some (I typically don't run much stagger, as the last time we did the math to figure out what it would take to make our corners it was on the order of a thousandth or so).
So now we're at 12.5 oz. on the LR, 7.5 oz. on the RR.
Ride heights were 6.5 on the LF, 7 on RF...
7.5 at the nerf bar, 6 at the front of the tray, and 5.5 at the rear, and 5.5 at the rear center of the pod (running 0.5's upside down for 2.18 in. tires, or 55.37 mm for the imperial challenged).
Whew...now time to lower the nose...put in 1.5 mm spacers, reset cross weight 12.3 - 7.9 across the rear...
5 at the front of the tray, 5.5 at the rear of the tray
PROBLEM SOLVED...I gotta learn to keep an eye on the left rear weight, typically we run over on ounce lighter there than the Cali trio but if you tune the rest of the car and leave that weight alone it has worked, so we'll have to keep trying it.
One problem down, one more to go (try to sell the Pro4 to buy a mini-mav  )
hankster 03-06-2006, 11:35 PM With the new year it’s time to go through and do a little house cleaning. Those of you that have been around here know that at the beginning of each year we go through and suggest that older larger threads get closed and new ones get started.
This is done for a number of reasons. One is to keep the information at fresh and not overwhelming for new visitors. If they see a thread with 150+ pages they are much less likely to go through the thread to get information. This also makes sure the info in the thread is no more then a year old.
Also, long threads have a bad effect on server load and we like to try and keep that manageable.
What I would suggest is that a regular here start a new thread putting a link in it to this thread. Once the new thread is started I will then close this thread.
Thanks!
