Made it to the 'Birds in one piece! Practice starts in a few hours and I'm looking forward to some track time.
The track looks awesome this year. Smooth and fast. Watched some on-road last night, those guys are FAST!
More later,
Jake

jimmy24 02-10-2006, 10:25 AM hey jake,
good job last night in the club race  and good luck tonight
BHayes 02-10-2006, 11:10 AM Good luck to Jake and the whole Maverick crew! Give us another update from the track if you get a chance.
jflack 02-10-2006, 11:22 AM Mav guys are looking good, Jake is fast in sportsman 19 turn. He turned a 57 4:00, DW 6 cell is pushing a bit, but still fast. ACs 19 turn is quick, and I'm fair on both stock and 19 turn. The track hasn't turn the grip up on us yet, some are loose. Thats been my problem, loose loose loose.....WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE......This place is fast stock running 4.2s and sportsman 19 turn turning 4.0s, 6 cell mod running 3.4s...wooooo Yea baby!!!! The track is 173ft running line.
This is a message from Jake that he wanted me to post here. I guess they're having problems logging on at the hotel:
Jake Here:
Well, things went well for almost everyone at the "Club Race". Dick Jarvis had a real good car in 4 Cell Stock. Jimmy Flack is close. Ac is close in Spt19. I'm a little closer in Spt19. Matt Gansen is very close in Exp 19. DW is hating life at the track, but looking forward to a new day today. We're trying to sort out his gremlins. Greg is searching for a comfy setup and working on shaking off the rust from the wheel. Everyone else is doing ok, I'm way too tired to remember right now!
We spent 16 hours+ trackside yesterday.
Today starts the real qualifying and pressure. It's crunch time! Two rounds today and it's time to start wrenching, patching wounds and looking for hope (DW).
Around the track the usual crowd is fast. The Silvas have massive rip with the Checkpoint motors. they are really making everyone other motor man step up to the plate. The usual fast guys are fast, but we'll see who's been keeping something up their sleeve today when everyone loads in the proper equipment and gets on the race clock.
Thanks everyone for keeping an eye on us online!
Jake

Still it is better than nothing.
Does anyone have current standings? That page went also.

EW here again, Jake still can't log in, here's his latest message:
Jake Here:
*
Mike mentioned that over 400 people were online and the bandwidth wasn't enough to handle it ...* Should be up again soon, but I'll ask him tomorrow.
*
Another long day at the track.* Everyone seemed to make headway, and overall the crowd is VERY fast this year.* The motor men are earning their keep supplying the horsepower.* The chassis guys are trying to harness the power and lay it down.* And, the drivers are trying to keep their wits about them, battle the lack of sleep and get into the A-Main ....* Welcome to the 'Birds!
*
So far Jimmy Flack is sitting 10th in Spt19, Jake is 12th,*AC is 14th, Tinman is 19th, Erich is 23rd, Katfish is 28th, Mr. Butts is 45th ...
*
In 1/12 19 Jake is 7th, Katfish is 15th, Tinman is 19th, Dick Jarvis is 21st, Ronnie is 23rd, Brian is 29th, and Neil is 35th.
*
In Stock Jimmy is 25th, Dick Jarvis*is 56th
*
Matt Gansen is sitting in 15th for Exp19.
*
Greg is 26th in 4 Cell Mod and DW is 34th.
*
DW is 14th in 6 Cell Mod
*
I'm sure I missed some people, or got something wrong here...* It's been a long day and I'm beat tired!* Check the snowbirds site for the latest info (when it's back on-line).
*
Tomorrow is the final day of qualifying.* It's "get 'er done" time for everyone.* It's gonna be rough, but hopefully the Maverick Crew will get lucky heats and be able to advance their positions on the Mains.
*
Jake out!
EW here, another post from Jake
Jake Here:
*
Well the qualifying is all done and there's the usual mixed results.* Around the pits it's either totally happy, happy, using the excuse list, complaining, or pissed ...* Or wanting a do over!* Man, it's been a tough event for a lot of the big names.* Andy Mac has really struggled, Arnie Fie has had a weekend I'm sure he wants to forget ...* and then there's Sean Cochren who just plain layed down the speed during the last 6 Cell mod run, the only one to post a 70 lap run (it was awesome!~)
*
I lost track of all the Maverick guys (Scott, thank you for the post earlier!) and left the track area prior to the overall's being posted.* I know that DW made the B in 6 Cell Mod, AC made the B in Spt 19, Jimmy made the B in Spt19, Matt made the B in Exp19, and I made the A in both 1/12th 19 and Spt19 (Qualified 9th for both).
*
Tomorrow is the big day, and the last one for a great event.* Other than obnoxiously drunk onroad guys, there wasn;t any controversy or troubles.* things went very smooth and the track has been awesome, smooth and fast!
*
Wish us luck!
*
Jake
Congratulations to all the Maverick crew, looks like about everyone had pretty good runs, overall looked like a very fast crowd this year for sure.My 05 OPC dominated the field today at the Local level, won all qualifiers,TQ'ed and won the main with the fastest lap of the day, this baby is Humpin.
maverick08 02-13-2006, 08:54 AM Congratulations Jake for the A main finishes in 1/12th scale and 19 turn at the birds! Couldn't happen to a better person!!! Hopefully next year I can finally make it there!
Later,
Todd
Scott M 02-13-2006, 09:17 AM Even watching on the feed I could see those main's were vicious! What a great showing though. We had Maverick drivers all over the main's and they all were running quite respectably. Thanks guys for representing our great chassis.
Jake - The shirt design is quite distinctive! One couldn't miss that big yellow diamond on the back, even through the blurrrr of on-line feed. To all of you who had to marshal the infield... you looked marvelous!
Thanks again guys. It was great to see so many drivers that we have come to know from this forum have their name's up in the RC Lights!
Scott
BHayes 02-13-2006, 11:24 AM Excellent job Jake!!! Congrats on the 2 a-main finishes!

JPH Racing 02-13-2006, 08:53 PM Wow what a week! I'm so tired today at work, I feel like I need a week of solid sleeping to get caught back up! :) The 'Birds was another awesome event. Thank you Mike, Julie, and crew!
As always, it was great hanging out with everyone I only get to see once a year. There's so many great people that show up to this one race, it's always a treat. It was nice to met Daryl, Matt, Jimmy, Greg and others that I've only e-mailed or spoken to on the phone. That's one of the best things about this race, is the friendships it seems to bring.
The Maverick Crew did well at the event this year. There were a lot more there racing, which was awesome in itself! We had a lot of Mini Mavs in the field too! I don't recall how everyone finished up, I'll look at the results and post up tomorrow.
I can tell you AC made the B in Spt 19, finishing up mid pack and Matt Gansen made the B in Expt 19, unfortunately breaking out early. For both drivers, this was their first time at the 'Birds! DW struggled all week, but put in a few good runs in the end. He made the B Main in 6 cell mod and finished mid pack. My brains are foggy right now, but I think Katfish made the B in 1/12 scale? I lucked out and made the A's in 1/12 and Spt19. Should have driven both classes better, I didn't do as well on the wheel as I would have liked.
Anyway, I'll post up more info tomorrow after I get some sleep! Thanks to everyone who followed along at home and posted up encouragement along the way!
Jake
rcgen 02-13-2006, 10:36 PM Great run for all that ran the Mavericks. I drove down to watch the mains and I am glad I did. It is also so nice to put a face with a name LOL.
Tightline - How can you miss Katf1ish? :drunk:
tony 13 02-13-2006, 11:28 PM Man that was one of the craziest weeks ever. I had a freakin blast!! Thank you so much to all of you who were there, I am glad I was able to meet you and I look forward to the next one. Thanks to Jake and DW for all of the help and all of the laughs, the trip was what I expected and more! I just spent the afternoon catching up on sleep but I have a feeling that the effects of the birds are going to last for the better part of the week. The mavericks were working this weekend. I was 1.14 seconds from the A but I guess it was just not in the cards for me this year. The rest of the crew did a hell of a job representing, we have an awsome team and it showed all week. I hope to make it again next year and I feel there is an A main in the cards.
thanks again and remember to keep those mavericks up front!!!
AC
David Butts 02-13-2006, 11:51 PM Hmmm? The words that sum up my almost week long adventure are,
ARRRRRRRRRRRRR! It drives me nuts:eek:
jhseckinger 02-14-2006, 12:36 AM Had a great time at the birds ....The Maverick team has to be some of the most helpful racers in the world...Im not the best driver by no streach of the imagination..but even the o5 slider made me look good ...lol.. well mabe not look good ..but you know what i mean..
However the only thing I was after was doing better than last year..Improved my laps by 3..and even better lap times...would have won the H-main but got cought up in a wreck when passing for the lead..Thats my luck....I only had 1 almost clean run all week ,,but had a great time ...Butts,Jarvis,Jake,DW and the rest of the maverick team ,,,thanks for the help ....Ill see ya in the pits....:dude:
James Seckinger
jhseckinger 02-14-2006, 12:40 AM Anthony ....sorry didnt mean to forget you to ....thanks Nice meeting ya...
DW...You need to send me that body(Paint job is awsome)
tony 13 02-14-2006, 01:08 AM Nice meeting you too James. maybye next year I will give you the paint job. I didnt beat them up too bad tis week so I think they will be used on the asphalt in the next couple of weeks..
Hey butts we were so close to the A main AAAARRRRGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL
AC
Raptor_MS 02-14-2006, 08:16 AM Good job at the 'Birds Mav Crew.......
Kenny@RAPTOR
katf1sh 02-14-2006, 06:58 PM WOW! it was kick azz to meet AC/DC that man can wheel a car with the best of them! and he has some thick skin to hang with the daytona boyz all week! jake was the class of the mav crew and ran awesome all week! not getting there until wed night may be the ticket? lol i suck!! next year i buy a new kit and build it at the birds just like jakes,he he. BUT as always i had a S load of fun and the bus ride home from charleys with dave farting up a storm was priceless! the poor bus driver had to go home with the windows down and the bus door open! dave has mad air biscuit skills!
i'll tell ya what i saw a damn maverick shirt on at least 30 different guys backs at the birds! more than any two other car brands? some of us struggled and some of us ran awesome. mr flack ran well all weekend as well...honestly i think AC's car was as fast as anyone in the A main he just had some bad back marker issues. 2007 will be here soon......... the new shirts and pod plates rock! viva la maverick!
JPH Racing 02-14-2006, 09:23 PM Going back over some of the posts I missed ... I'm starting to feel human again, but I think it will take a few more days to get caught up on sleep!
Thanks to EW for posting up my updates from the track. I'm not sure what was up with AC's computer and us not being able to get the password ....
Pepe: Fantastic job at your race! I think you covered everything a racer could want in one day! TQ, fastest lap, winning all the heats and the mains! I guess maybe track record would top it off, maybe next time?? :)
Todd: Hope to see you there next year. You just can't understand this event until you've been. It's awesome.
Scott: All the guys did very well and enjoyed themselves. There were a lot of red shirts flying the Maverick logos. The new shirts are done also, I'll have the artwork up on the site today. Thanks for all the support and encouragement!
Brad: I can't tell you how many guys asked me "Where's Brad?" I think next year you might have to find the time to come on out and give it a run!
Mark: Thanks! Sportman 19 was a good class to be in, the turnout was great, the field was very close, and for the most part the driving was good (although the main was a little rough, but that happens on short track!).
Rick: Matt Gansen is a great wheelman! Nice guy too. He needs a little more experience at the big races, but I can tell he'll put one in the winner circle sometime in the future!
Daryl: It's was awesome that you drove down just to hang out with the Crew! Thank you!!
RcGen: Thanks for coming down too!
AC: You did really well for your first time at the event. I'm very impressed!
Mr. Butts: What can I say .... You're always a blast to hang out with. Please work on your Cali impressions for next year! Dude!
James: Hey man, you're getting better each year!
Kenny: Thank you!
Katfish: That's the one thing I feel like I really missed out on ... The Charlie's dinner. I feel lucky I wasn't in the bus, but I did miss out on hanging with you guys!
A big thank you to all the guys who ran a 1/10 or 1/12 Maverick at the Snowbirds. Being part of such a great group of racers is what it's all about!
David Butts 02-14-2006, 10:18 PM Going back over some of the posts I missed ... I'm starting to feel human again, but I think it will take a few more days to get caught up on sleep!

Hmmm, Sleep is good, Tonight will make night number three since getting home from Da'Birds and I still feel as if I've had the poop beaten out of me. I dont remember being this tired after the previous two years. (maybe thats because I dont have good recollection of the previous two years?)
Duuuuuuuude, Like I was really trying to be down with that whole Cali-tude thing. Butt(tm) being from Flarda it's hard to get it jus right
And last but not least, When I'm asked and I'm asked alot, Why I run the Maverick chasssis when everyone else is running or switching to brand X or Y, My standard answer is "Because of Jake". I have never witnesssed you turning your nose up at the average racer no matter which chassis they run and you seem to have time for the smallest or largest and sometimes the most off the wall questions no matter how hard you need to work on your own stuff.
Many of the other r/c company representatives could learn volumes from your attitude both in person, trackside and/or over the phone. As long as you make and sell the cars and as long as I continue racing this time I'll have a Maverick chassis or two in my stable.
tightline31408 02-14-2006, 10:52 PM MR BUTTS u said a mouth full !!!! JAKE never met me before, but his atitude toward me was like he new me for years. from day 1 jake had my respect, and never at like he was 2 busy to talk 2 the like guys.and that the maverick team 2! AC and DW took time 2 talk with me 2. thats why i like the maverick team because they havent forgotten again about little guy.
jhseckinger 02-15-2006, 02:56 AM WHERE WAS BRAD...IS HE SCARED OF SNOWBIRDS...BRAD THEY WONT BITE.
BHayes 02-15-2006, 07:43 AM Sounds like the whole crew had a great time. Wish I could have joined you all. Maybe next year I'll be able to join in the fun.

yokman 02-15-2006, 08:38 AM getting brad out to just a club race is like getting moss to build that new car this year. :freak:

Mr. Butts - you couldn't have said it better!
The only thing missing is the fact that it is one heck of a great car too!
BHayes 02-15-2006, 10:44 AM Yokman, I am sure you will see me well before you will see moss race that new car!
mmccoy 02-15-2006, 11:27 AM YEA,WHAT BUTTSY Said. Thanks for your help Jake. The most approchable sponsor.
j21moss 02-15-2006, 09:28 PM wanta bet????
CBear3 02-15-2006, 11:22 PM Can only echo what Butts said. Originally loved the car for the adjustments, and the cult following, but in the past year and especially after the races this year I came to the same conclusion he did. Because of Jake, I will always run a Maverick. Between him, AC, and DW, they did the best they could to pull my head out of my rear last week. I only got one complete qualifier in, but when the driver could get out of his own way the car was blistering fast. Unfortunately stubborness and only getting to run one class in the club races probably cost us a a good result. Still, for somebody who rarely runs 19t to place it in the C after driving upside down all week is a huge testament to the car. Between the equipment and the people, Maverick is definitely top-notch in my book.

jhseckinger 02-16-2006, 02:23 PM AC ...what brand of liquid mask do ya use.........
tony 13 02-16-2006, 04:23 PM I believe it is fastcolor..Jake has it at the shop (707) 586-3375. I use a cheap paint brush and make sure to put at least 3 think coats on the inside of a cleaned body. I let the coats dry either naturally or with the help of a heat gun. My designs are drawn on the outside of the body over the overspray with a thin or medium sharpy and I cut lightly through the mask with a new exacto blade. It takes some practice but the results look pretty good if you take your time and practice a while. If you have some scrap lexan you could get a feel for it. Make sure your blade is sharp and make the lines as simple as possible. also make sure you dont leave any gaps between cut lines you should peel along an continuous cut line to prevent unwanted parts of the mask to pull up...any other questions just ask
By the way I must thank all of you Maverick boys again for a great week. Thanks for the hospitality and Pirate jokes...lol I hope to make it out there again next year and look forward to another great week!!
AC
JPH Racing 02-16-2006, 07:18 PM Hey Guys, thank you so much for the kind words and support! We all had a great time at the 'Birds this year and I'm already looking forward to seeing you all again next year!
I added photos of AC's and my Snowbirds cars to the site. Should hopefully get my camera on DW's cars tomorrow.
As I was adding the pics to the site, I was thinking about how many people came up to me at the 'Birds to mention the website and the info that can be found there. No other oval MFG offers this and it's my pleasure to share as much as we can with all the Maverick Racers who are part of the Crew.
I realize this also gives competing companies and racers running other chassis access to our information, prototype photos, setups, etc ... But I guess that's all part of the deal. I figure it's more important to share the info, than worry exactly who's reading it!
If anyone has any ideas for future articles, or questions on setups that can be answered, please let me know. I want our site to continue to grow!
Jake
JPH Racing 02-16-2006, 07:39 PM Also added Mark Steiner's brushless setups to the site. Maverick Racers planning on attending the Novak race should check these out! I hope you all have a great time at the race, and work together to go FAST!
JPH Racing 02-16-2006, 08:32 PM Added AC's and my 19turn setups to the site.
rcgen 02-16-2006, 10:31 PM Jake
I for one would like to thank you for all the valuable information on the website. Everytime I go to check a setup or article there is something new I am learning. Just today, I was reading up on the frontend setup and noticed the pictures of the grey area of the upper and lower arms on how it may bind up. I didn't think of it so back to the car to check my front end to see if it binds up. And today you added a brushless setup just in time for our inaugural 4300 brushless class at HW. It just helps and let me know that I am doing the correct changes. Man I can't wait for that other car to arrive.
THANKS AGAIN
Eugene
David Butts 02-17-2006, 09:23 PM Man I can't wait for that other car to arrive.
Eugene
Eugene, You're getting another car? Yikes! You wanna run a different car every heat? Oh, I get it now, If you enter enough cars in one class you reckon that someday you will only have you to race, Win guaranteed? Nope, You still have to beat yourself. One can never have too many Mavericks, True?
mproy 02-17-2006, 11:02 PM Ok this is a call to Mini-Mav owners who competed at the Birds. I just acquired a Mini-Mav and I am looking for a baseline setup. My home track uses a setup similar to the Birds track for 1/10. So I assume the 1/12 setup should be similar.
Any tips or hints are appreciated.
