what do most of you guy's prefer running the rear pod set at, ether the pod and T- plate off set or just the rear pod off set?

I found with mine on flat tracks the offset t plate and offset pod.. works best.. On The banked cap tire tracks this summer offset pod and center t plate was the fastest.. On caps i run my tweak nuetral.. with the t plate offset it was harder to get the car to hook up or get it to nuetral..

Jake,
I have to agree with Tony 13. THE SITE LOOKS GREAT. I love the drivers section. It was great to read everyone's bio's.

I can't remember who said it in their comments but "drive fast as hell and if you see God STOP" are words to live by-LMAO

Scott I have to say that I also felt those were the strongest words of advice given by any of the maverick drivers the Maverick drivers...It kinda' reminds me of the whole "speed doesnt kill, its the sudden stop at the end that hurts the most..LOL

I have run the pod and the T plate offset at all times. I also dont run caps or a banked track but we have found the offset set up seems to work best for flat carpet and asphalt tracks..

ok this may have been answered but 2000+replies are a lot to read through has anyone seen a conversion for the 04 chassis crossbrace to allow the side shocks to be raised?
kinda like the custom works car
i don't get to run enough to buy the new car with no oval in nm

Rich I cant wait buddy. Its going to be a good time this year.

FBR: We never used the newer aluminum parts on the older car. I wouldnt be to worried about it though. I have very rarely used the side shock position as a tuning option. Its more of build deal depending on what the track is like, and you can get the same geometry on the 04 angle wise using different height ball studs.

FBR,

With the 04 you can just get the different height ball ends, they come in short, med and tall and use shims under them to get the exact height you're after.

Guys I got a good couple of question 4 ya! the first couple of dayz of the birds everyone is trying 2 find the good runline.now as you (QUAL) on fri and sat. first(Q) is how many times would u change your tires or not and why not? second(Q) the maverick sits different with different tires why is that? :(

jhseckinger
01-19-2006, 09:57 AM
Rock ....only change tires when they need to be because of tire dia. or traction...

the maverick sits different with different tires because they are different....lol

rcgen
01-19-2006, 10:33 AM
As you run your tires wear down and your tire diameter changes which causes the car to sit differently. You'll have to find the "ideal" rollout for the track and check the ride height restriction if any.

Changing your tires would depend on the combination you want and how your car reacts to the changes plus the diameter of the tire.

james: what I am saying is this! If i had a (rc4less pink rear and a bsr pink rear) if i cut them both down are they the same? rcgen :the maverick chassis sits real good on (med 2 low tires) what i am asking is if i find where the car is handling ,but is slitly draging the batt tray, now i have another problem. that is why i said how low is 2 low?

CBear3
01-19-2006, 12:43 PM
4 mm is too low when you go through inspection :)
And no, BSR's and RC4Less tires won't "sit" the same. I know that in the rear the offsets on the wheels are different, meaning I have to space an RC4Less tire out more on the LR to get it to clear the pod than I do a BSR. It doesn't make much of a difference on the LR, as most of us are just shimming it so that it clears the pod, but if you switch tire brands you have to watch out for the RR. Switching from a BSR to a RC4L tire will mean that you narrow your rear track because of this offset. It may be so small you won't notice much of a difference on the track though, but the geometry of the wheels are indeed different.

In addition, by changing tires you are also changing the properties of the rubber on the car. A BSR pink and a RC4L pink are not going to behave the same. They may be pretty close, but they are not identical.

However, if all you're asking about is Ride Height, a tire trued to 2.25 inches in diameter will sit on the car the same any other tire (or rock, or tylenol bottle) thats 2.25 inches in diameter would (regardless of brand).

Side Note: Yeah! DW entered Factory Mod! We have a horse to bet on finally :)

Guys I got a good couple of question 4 ya! the first couple of dayz of the birds everyone is trying 2 find the good runline.now as you (QUAL) on fri and sat. first
(Q) is how many times would u change your tires or not and why not?

Depending on what compunds you use they may need to be changhed more then others..Me personally I like to have 2-3 sets of tires for a bigger race..Generally I will Run tires during the year down to a certain size, then I will bag them for later use.. I prefer smaller tires..Esspecially in high bite situations.. I have found with any car less side bite on high bite tracks is faster..This season ive been running my tires down to about 2.08 (BSR's).. My fastest runs are between 2.14-2.10... Ive also had a few guys try the smaller tires and they went faster as well..

I run mine 1 maybe 2 times,, then i clean them good and swap to another set.. As soon as they start to feel tacky they need to be at least cleaned or swapped.. I like to clean mine and let them site for a few hours..The biggest thing is whatever you do as far as cleaning or swapping be consistent..Do the same routine every time..If you prep them different each time they may react diff on the track causing a diff handling feel..

second(Q) the maverick sits different with different tires why is that?

If the tires are cut down to the same size they should sit the same..Some companies have different sized rimsbut the foam is what makes the size.. Some tires with the smaller rimms will be the same size, but have more foam on the rims.. this will change the way the tires bite.. Also one companies pink may be a different kind of foam then anothers..This will also change the way the car handles..

My take on the tire deal is fresh tires are allways the fastest tires. I belive that one should switch to fresh tires as much as the wallet will allow (were talking about the birds here, not club racing)

My car is always faster on fresh tires, is has more edge, more agressiveness to it and thats what I like in mod. I wouldnt say its harder to drive, its just more responsive.

I have set aside 4-5 sets of practice tires and will have 4 sets of fresh tires, one for each heat and the main. For me having fresh tires that have been scuffed for a couple of laps ready for qualifying is important.

Cbear: Just saying 6-cell mod gives me goosebumps. We shall see what happens.

What sold my father and I on Mavericks was how great this group was. We're all more of a family than what you get with other manufacturers; helping out as much as we can, and BS'ing the rest of the time. Just a good low key fun time. Point is, we are all kind of factory drivers, we are the team. Instead of half a dozen guys crowded in a corner sharing secrets, we'll probably have 20 of us down there to bounce ideas off of and lean on.

Of course if they kick you out for not meeting the minimum speed we will disown you

I've got the telemetry system installed, everything is coming up on the handheld as it needs to be. I had all intentions of hitting the track for practice today but I'm still waiting on the timing trigger to arrive. Although I feel like I could make progress with only a rpm function, I'd feel better knowing my lap times are reduced as well. As I've posted before... if you plan on running a voltage cap or receiver battery, you'll need to install a y harness on the batt/tel slot in order to make everything work properly. This is per Spektrum support!

I've had enough experince with online sim racing setups and reading data to think I can use this system as a real time dyno and be able to set up a car by it. I'll document my findings and make detailed reports back to Jake to post on the Maverick website or here as I progress.

Hope you guys do well @ the "birds".

Rich: It's worth the trip, that's for sure! I hope to make it and enjoy the excellent friendships the 'Birds is well known for.

FBR: I see the guys answered this already, but let us know if you have anymore questions.

Tightline: Are you all squared away on tires and such? Please post questions up, you want to get as much of this stuff covered and figured out before the big race! :)

The chassis has to clear 5mm of ride height or it won't be allowed on the track.

CBear: Bet big on DW! He's a longshot, but the pay off will be worth it!
>>>>Of course if they kick you out for not meeting the minimum speed we will disown you<<
Now that's a funny line! :)

I'm glad that the Maverick Crew is like one big Team. It's been awesome being involved with this, because the racers running our chassis are a great group of guys!

Maruader: We've got the triggers in stock! Keep us posted!

MK: Yes, it only works with the Spektrum. The Receiver actually is a transceiver, meaning it sends and receives info.

Milky: I hope to be a SWT sponsor in a day or two! Hey, I'm counting on big things from you this season down there! Along with Steve and Tony and Justin!

marauder like Jake said keep us posted. it seems like such a cool idea. I also run a nitro car and that setup seems cool as well. let us know what you think!

Jake I beleive that the min. ride height at the birds is 4mm... I dont know if running that low would be a good idea if you are going to bottom out and scrub speed but I still think that is the lowest they will let you go.

Glad you became a South West Tour sponsor. In very limited testing the '05 HE has proven as fast as my trusty L40. With a little more track time it should be a rocket. Will probably pickup a '05 OPC by the end of February.

One question on flat tracks, what is the advantage to the offset t-bar vs offset pod?

Milky
Hope you can make the first SWT race. I know I will be there. What classes will you be runnig? I will run Sportman Mod and ocassionally run stock or 19 turn at few selected tracks.

Steve,
I cannot make the first tour race. I plan on running all the HRH monthly races, there I got moved up to expert stock. The tour races that I can make Ill go with stock. CPOS Ill go with stock. At Racers haven series races Ill go with 19T. I got to run my OPC at kingsburg a couple weeks ago and took 2 laps off my times there with a new track record so it should be good at the other tracks, we will see Sun.

Milky: Yes, there seems to be plenty of series racing in So-Cal for 2006! I think it's a good thing, just hope no one gets their toes stepped on too much.

Marauder: If a product is not on the website, you can always shoot me a e-mail and ask about it. Sometimes we get stuff in, but it takes a week or so to make it on the site. Regardless, go out and run the telemetry stuff so you can tell us about it! :)

Steve: We've been doing more business down south, and I always like to give something back if possible. Promoting racing and especially oval racing, is just something I enjoy. I hope it helps Joe put on a quality series in '06.

I think you've get the '05 running towards the front of the pack in no time! We prefer running the t-plate offset everywhere we go in California (no banked tracks). I've used it the last two times I was down at RH, and had a really fast 19 Turn car each time! You can only run the t-plate offset with the pod offset on our chassis.

Milky: I think you meant to say ... added 2 laps. I know you told me that you totally ripped up the rug in Kingsburg your first time out with the '05 OPC, setting a track record in the process!

First trial session today with the telemetry system. Spektrum, I think hit the nail on the head with this one!

I had the roll out set wrong as I kind of doubt 280mph speeds shown on the handheld so I'll reset it to a 1 to 1 ratio for rpm's. The '05 OPC is lightning fast though. Horsepower is absolutely not a problem running Putnam Blue/Greens on the Reedy Spec 19. Low temps with overcast skies and moderate winds with the tires I had on the car made it difficult to sort out exactly which adjustments I needed to make for a base setup but I still made slight progress. I'm not really sure the high downforce Monte is the way to go for this track though... there's a really fine line between loose and pushing. I'm thinking a blunter front end might make the distinction easier to find.

Cold solder joints on a reconfigured practice pack, busted IRS ride height adjuster and other misc. gremlins wasted a lot of my time today but I'm off till next Tuesday and plan on being there testing at least through Saturday (weather permitting) for the first club race of the season Sunday. Once I can reach a stable base setup, then I can really exploit the data from the telemetry system.

Kudo's to Jake and Brad for producing an extremely fine kit... it blows the doors off anything I've had previous to it!

All of my sensors work... voltage, temp, speed, and lap timer. My only wish is there were a usb connector to download to a computer. This system's sweet though! I don't see much use for the recharge receptacle on these jobs when I don't even see a recharger listed @ Spektrums site.

Also, not a glitch from the system with 4 cell use, stiffinening cap, and the rest of the system including a personal transponder in place. If I can remember tomorrow, I'll take the digi-cam and send Jake some pic's to post of the system/setup on my car.
