I was planning on running stock with the 05 OPC but I can't seem to get any rug time, so it doesn't look like I'll make it. The Minnireg race here in Florida would have been great but something came up this weekend. My son and I will just be a spectator again. It's a good thing my sister lives in O-town. Hope to meet some of the Maverick family there.

Not to my knowledge. That was the good ole days when you could see oval articles in the major RC mags and vendors supplying hopups for Bolink, Assc, Hyperdrive, and TRC cars.

I still have a Protoform T-Bird in Havoline dress that was autographed by Davey Allison the year he died and fits a TRC Lynx SS car. I'd like to restore the car for display but can't find a "cherry" SS chassis and front suspension for it. I'm still searching Ebayfor those items hoping they'll come up.

To this day I'm still using a jar of Aero-Car Tech. Goo Lube AC-0164 on my diff rings and balls... best diff lube I've ever used and irreplacable once it runs out.

Has anyone using the Spektrum telemetry system come up with a good method of mounting the rpm sensor? Looks like it may turn out to be a royal pain in my case. The mount system must have been designed for TC's the best I can tell.

I'm trying to understand a little more about camber gain,it's uses and how best to set it? anyone?

01-06-2006, 11:41 PM
marauder,
just mounted mine made a u shaped lexan mount and put it above the rear axle. double sided taped it in. works fine. If you want to know the motor rpm just multiply the pinion and spur ratio by the axle rpm and then you have the motor rpm. Have not had mine on the track yet but it seems to work pretty trick so far.

Thanks guys for the response. I ended up with no mount, servo taped it directly to the right axle mount just above the spur with a touch of shoe goo top and bottom to insure it held. Gonna be tricky if I get rear ended just right though.

Pepe, there's an article here by Danny Bartholomew that may help you. Interesting read! http://rc-oval.com/rcoval/chassis/black-book.html

Thanks Marauder,I've read that a hundred times,I've got a copy in my notebook also,it really is mandatory reading.I was just trying to see how some folks here have used it and the diffrent results from different tracks they've gotten. One thing I was curious about was, is there a measurement for camber gain? I've recently been playing with it and have found great gains in the front end set up on my car.

[QUOTE=pepe]One thing I was curious about was, is there a measurement for camber gain? [QUOTE]

Just use an angle finder like you would to measure camber and compress the suspension and see how much change you have.

More camber gain on the RF will make the car turn more and more camber gain on the LF will take steering out. There are other things going on with the geometry but thats the basics.

Danny's book is awesome. I've heard he's working on a second version? Hopefully to be released soon!

Adjusting camber gain also adjusts the front roll center. Another thing, adjusting camber gain effects the amount of bumpsteer. As with most things on an oval car, when you adjust one thing, it may effect others at the same time. This can make it tricky to know what is really making the difference in the handling.

Camber gain is all about controlling the contact patch of the front tires, as the chassis rolls through the turn. Bigger contact patch equals more steering. Smaller contact patch equals less steering.

I'm sure DW will post up when he's back from racing this weekend, he l-o-v-e-s typing about this technical stuff!

Hey Jake great product. The first time out with my 05 OPC @Racers Oasis in Kingsburg Ca. 1st place in Stock with a new track record by 2 laps,3 laps over my best out there. Only my second time on carpet the car was great! When I get some more experience on the track I may pick up a little more speed, cause Ive only been racing since about May. So thanks again for the service and a great chassis, the Swift site helped a bunch. I need the car to turn in a tick better when I get up under someone any suggestions? Trail the RF a little maybe or softer frnts??
Thanks again,

The Mavericks were awsome this weekend in norcal at the first annual Silva Concepts three day race. I qulalified 2nd in 19turn and ended up 4th. There were some fast cars out there and the 05 was keeping pace with the best of them and in most cases it was setting the pace. A little more luck in the main and I could have given the leader a run for his money. DW was FAST! He was keeping pace like a champ and by the end of the day he was starting the main in third place behind Silva and Steenhoven. The main brought him similar luck and he pulled in a top 5 finishing 4th. The rest of the maverick crew did a great job as we all had a blast and got all we could out of three days of carpet racing. Thanks to Jake and DW for all of the help, all I can say is I cant wait for the birds Its gunna' rock!

Good job this weekend AC. Both you and EW did a good job representing Maverick and our Northerin Cali group at the Silva Concepts/Checkpoint Classic.

I would also like to congradulate Amy and Frank both for not totally going crazy at their first big race. You guys did a good job under the pressure.

I had a great time racing with all of ya this weekend.

I also have to give major props to Jake for putting out the best oval car on the market. No matter how sick I am, or how horrible I am driving this car cant be made slow. My 05 turned the fastest lap of anyone at the race this weekend. It broke the record of the fastest lap turned on that track ever. 3.555. Smokin.

What t-plate do you guys prefer on the 05 slider for 19t?

I'm running a Silva Med-soft spring steel plate with 19t spec Reedy.

Jake, wondering what brushes you prefer with the 19t Reedy?

JPH Racing
01-10-2006, 02:45 PM
BMC: Silva spring steels (thickness depends on the class and track) usually the med/stiff, and ASC .063 fiberglass for carpet or a rough track.

Marauder: Usually ASC 767's and purple springs.

Marauder
01-10-2006, 10:33 PM
I have four Reedy 19 specs setup to test with the telemetry system. One with Putnams Blue / Green, One with Lemans XXX, a Reedy with 728's reworked to laydown, and one with 767's. I'm using Tribo, All with new arm's, all resized with a Fussybrush... and I understand the importance of spring pressures but should I start with red / green springs for 4 cell and then move to a heavier spring should conditions show I need to, or risk the slight performance decrease of a heavier spring to begin with? Gear ratios are under geared fixed @ 3.03 whereas optimum seems to be around 2.5 at our track. Naturally, 2.5 caps on the rear to maximize roll out and top end regardless. It seems foams can't cut it on this track at the present as much as I wish otherwise. I understand these are probably stupid questions but...

Marauder: Let us know how the telemetry system works!

So far we've got these racers going to the 'Birds:
Lee, trying to stop bye and say hello
AC, Sportsman 19
Darryl, Stock
Chuck, Sportsman 19
Mr. Butts, Sportsman 19
Eugene, maybe?
Katfish, Sportsman 19 and 1/12 scale 19
DW, Expert Mod (and thinking about 6 Cell Mod)
Jake, classes undecided right now ...

Who else is attending??

Everyone: Made some cool changes to the www.swiftracingproducts.com (http://www.swiftracingproducts.com/) site. Check out the Maverick Racers page, and I finally figured out how to accomplish adding PDF files of the instructions and setup sheets! There's also some new photos, new articles, and more coming very soon! Let me know what you think!

Quick Update:
I generally consider my OPC to be my primary car, and my slider the back-up. So when I decided to run 19t down at the Birds it meant flip-flopping the cars as the OPC has been used to contend stock here locally.
Well, finally had the chance to crack her up last night in her new trim, and boy was it fast. Steiner (Mark #10) had run 66 laps here at our annual carpet race in October, and I had only managed 62 with my slider. Last night, forcing myself to run one of last years' Birds handout motors I turned a mid 65. I've still got some setup work to do (the car was really rolling over during quick transitions, don't think it was really loose, just weight jacking so I'm gonna try to take out some castor and see what happens) but I'm heading the right direction. Thanks again to Mark for posting his setup, while I didn't bolt it straight on I did use it as a sort of guideline.

Now I've got to figure out why the OPC is so much more stable than my slider (not car design, just build up)

FYI

Those who run the Specktrum system in 4 cell with either a battery or capacitor voltage backup... If you plan on using the telemetry system with the above, It IS necessary to purchase a JR Wire Harness
( part # JRPA135 ) in order to make this combination work.

The plug in connections are as follows.

Male connector to bat/tel connection on transceiver
first female on y harness to batt or cap
second female on y harness to telemetry module

Due to the nest of snakes once all connections are made, you may wish to cut, splice, and heat shrink the wires to reduce weight. The excess wiring truly does weigh more than the telemetry module.

question on shock mounting. On the swift web site it says when running the offset t-plate to run the shocks in the left side holes. Is that the left side looking from the back or left side holes looking from the front. I've seen some pictures on the swift website and I've seen the shocks mounted in both sides when the t-plate was offset.

The left side of the car is the battery tray side..when referencing pan cars they are talked about when looking from the back..

Guys wouldnt the shocks stay put as long as you move the Tplate only not the pod, for instance Offset pod w/ offset T plate??

JPH Racing
01-16-2006, 07:36 PM
Left side is always drivers side/battery side. We always look from the rear of the car forward, thru the windshirld like the driver would.

The shock have to move over to the left to keep the geometry as designs. The t-plate pivots are the center of the shock pivot point. Now, you can mess around with the center shock location, but keep the side shock inline with the t-plate.
