View Full Version : The MAVERICK OVAL CHASSIS Thread
David Butts 12-29-2005, 09:42 PM By the way: Erich is still racing the Maverick he built for the article. He IM'ed me this morning to let me know it broke the stock track record at R/C Madness last weekend!
Uh huh? Erich is still racing that car but who was driving it when the record was broken? Inquiring minds want to know.
Hi Erich. See ya at the birds?
JPH Racing 12-29-2005, 10:00 PM Gerald: I think you forgot to mention oval racing! I hope they know what forgotten crowd you're talking about ... They might assume it's 1/10 scale on-road pancars or something strange like that! :) Thanks for sending something in to them!
Tightline: What class will you be running?
Mr. Butts: Hey, how are you!?! Erich didn't mention who drove it, just that the car broke the track record!
Ridge Runner 12-29-2005, 10:22 PM JPH. Just checked my sent messages, and the subject title was"Oval cars and racing".
That should be descriptive enough don't you think, but I agree that it would of helped if I had mentioned the article on the Maverick.
tightline31408 12-29-2005, 10:54 PM it will be 4 cell stock.
Marauder 12-30-2005, 09:30 AM Mach 10
I use the long shaft mentioned in the tech section of the swift site... you can get it from Jake @JPH
Dan
Along with the long shaft with the setup as mentioned in the tech section @ swift's site, I run the Associated buggy springs

Marauder 12-30-2005, 09:58 AM Jake, I was wondering if you had the Maverick 05 setup sheets in soft copy that could be edited and printed directly from my computer? Would be a lot easier than trying to decipher my chicken scratch later!
Mach10_shooter 12-30-2005, 12:40 PM I have them scanned into .jpg and .pdf. I use .jpg and edit in paintbrush. it works pretty good. If anyone wants them let me know.
Chris
I'll take a copy J0765@charter.net How does the offset t-plate effect the car? I want to know when I need to use it
Marauder 12-30-2005, 02:07 PM I would definitly like a copy! natural_hor@yahoo.com if I remember my alternate e-mail correctly.
JPHRacer 12-30-2005, 04:22 PM Pepe: I have not gone away from the off-set t-plate since the 05 was released. But when I did prototyping for the 05 and tested the off-set t-plate setup I found that the car had more initial steering getting into the corner, felt more planted coming off of the corner and seemed to be more consistant.
To be honest I have not ever felt a time were I though the off-set t-plate was hindering my car. I dont know a situation where it would not be benificial.
MK Race 12-30-2005, 04:52 PM pepe: When I got my 05 slider I set it up just like my KSG was. That way I could really tell the difference between the changes that I can make with the 05. I ran it like that with the t-plate centered, pod off-set for a couple of weeks. Then I changed it to offset t-plate and I felt a big difference in the way the car turns in and comes off, both much better. I have left it offset and now playing with sliding the battery tray.

Cap tires is one place it did not work for me..I tried so many times. the car was always tight on cap tires with it offset.. center t plate offset pod... On carpet, i would not run anything but offset t plate..
Jake you need to make it to the ROAR nats next year in henderson Tenn.. you will love the track...
GILYHANTREE 12-30-2005, 06:56 PM burbs, i am just running one class this time at rush and son so you might need a spur gear protector on that car never can tell i might just tuck up under the back of it what class are you running stock or 19t
Marauder 12-30-2005, 08:42 PM Anyone here know what the tire codes were for the Jaco capped tires? I picked up 6 yellow caps NIP on the cheap @ Ebay to test at my track but have no idea as to match them up to BSR radials.
Milky 12-30-2005, 08:42 PM My OPC is sanded and waiting for glue tomorrow morning. Thanks Jake for the product and extra thanks for getting the second order ready so fast.

None of the jaco caps will match up with BSR's.. the bsr tires are hands down in a differnt leauge then any other ever made.. No one else makes caps anymore for the sole purpose they could not compete...You may be able to get them hooked up enough to run, but they will never be as fast..Jacos also wore out really fast.. they were very hard tires.. Your best bet is to just try them out and see..
davepull 12-31-2005, 03:16 PM i found this picture of DW at the birds last year

Marauder 12-31-2005, 10:30 PM Burbs,
Thanks for the info. Only got them for practice sessions. With Buggy Grip and Reedy tire warmers getting hooked up not a problem.
Mach 10,
Got the attatchment! Work perfectly for my purposes... I owe ya
Pepe,
What motor you runnin in your class?
:hat: Happy Halloween... wrong holiday?
PS: those pics way too frickin funny!!!
Marauder,
I'm running the 21T super spec class, with 21T street spec motors, when I switch to 4 cell stock it'll be monsters.
Milky 01-01-2006, 04:12 PM Ok guys my maverick is close to being done and was wondering about ride height. I never paid much attention to it till now. Flat asphalt and carpet does anyone have any ideas.
Andy
Marauder 01-01-2006, 06:20 PM On asphalt, 1/4 to 5/16th's if tracks gots any number of bumps. For carpet, 5mm roughly.
competionpark 01-01-2006, 06:59 PM Jake do you ever see an RTR car as part of your product line.
Marauder 01-01-2006, 07:04 PM Pepe, for 4 cell stock, are you limited to a particular motor or can you use any 27 turn with fixed timing?
We don't have a 4 cell stock class,I was refering to when I go to other tracks and big events that don't run the super spec class.
Marauder 01-01-2006, 07:39 PM Ahhh... I was wondering after I saw the posted rules... thought there was a class I missed at the website.
ohiorcracer 01-02-2006, 11:13 AM Hey Jake took My 05 opc and ran it at the 2006 hangover classic at classic hobbies in Akron Ohio and qualified 8th in A and finished 6th. Was very pleased the way the car handled, Unfortuanetly I was the only maverick there out of 65 entries but I showed the car well. Had alot of people looking at it and asking question so hopeefully we can get more showing. Thanks again for a greaat car and happy new year. Kevin Henson (OHIO) Go Buckeyes
BMCALLISTER01 01-02-2006, 11:19 AM So when is the 06 chassis coming out.
MK Race 01-02-2006, 02:19 PM Been working hard on my 05 in the B/L class and inching my way closer to the top. Last night I picked up 2 laps and now within 3 seconds from the top. Did a lot of work on the front end and moving the battery tray. Now I'm going to play with the rear axle a little bit.
Hey Jake, I might buy a sheet of graphite and make my own OPC chassis. I've got some ideas to try. I'll let you know how it works.
ohiorcracer 01-02-2006, 03:03 PM couple of pics of the car sorry not real clear.
JPH Racing 01-02-2006, 03:34 PM Ok, time to get caught up on the posting ... It's been very busy around the shop, the holidays are always fun! :)
Ridge: Having that title should let them know what you were meaning! Thanks again for sending something in to them.
Tightline: Check with Dick Jarvis, he ran really well last year in stock. Send me an e-mail, and I'll forward it to him. jphracing001@aol.com (jphracing001@aol.com)
Mach10: Thanks for hooking the guys up with the setup sheets! I really need to get them on the website ... Can you send me the PDF's please??
Pepe: Offset t-plate ... Everywhere but steeply banked tracks. We don't run on them, so I run it everywhere I go.
Andy: Oh no, thank you! Let me know when you get it all together!
Davepull: Man, that's some funny stuff! Better watch out for Katfish ... He's gonna even the score, I'm sure. And, just so everyone knows ... That's not really DW in the picture. I didn't have to hang him up at all last year.
Andy: I set my stuff up around 6mm for carpet, 4mm for smooth asphalt, leave it at 6mm for the rough tracks.
CompPark: Ya never know what the future will bring. But, aside from note and scribbles, I don't have anything in the works right now. That project is a really tough one to start one. Without rules to go by with new class, the first company to build something is really risking a large investment.
Kevin: Thanks for representing the Maverick crew out at Classic! Sounds like you had a pretty good weekend making the A!
BMC: I'm not sure there will be an '06 this time. I've got some updates I'm working on, but we're happy with the chassis and overall layout. So, it might be more like a '05.5 version this time.
MK: Keep in touch, let me know what you're up to! I always like feedback and hearing racers ideas. We try new stuff all the time, always looking to improve.
Happy New Year to everyone. Hope 2006 brings many wins and great races to the Maverick Crew!
tightline31408 01-02-2006, 10:16 PM Hey jake I sent you a e-mail thank you. also can i get a couple of sets of stickers from you.I am painting a new body for the birds.

BMCALLISTER01 01-03-2006, 11:36 AM Give us a few details on what changes are in store for the 05 chassis
JPH Racing 01-03-2006, 03:47 PM Tightline: E-mail me your address and I'll get the stickers out to you.
BMC: Right now we're refining the Battery Tray, Top Plate and Bottom Plate. We've already made a running change to the Tray Adapter. More info coming soon.
Everyone: I've been cleaning around the shop and have a bunch of Maverick t-shirts, size XXL only. If anyone would like one, please send me an e-mail. If you pay the shipping, I'll pay for the t-shirt!
jphracing001@aol.com
Scott M 01-03-2006, 04:23 PM Jake - Got the new chassis Friday evening  Thanks for the quick ship.
This second car is completed and I plan to do some test laps Saturday. I love the 'banked oval" battery tray. There is nothing more frustrating than grinding down new carbon fiber. Plus there is room for a "Maverick" sticker near the mounting screws.
The original '05 is running great. It was the car to beat last Saturday, it is just too bad that at the three minute mark the driver got an incurable infatuation with the dog-gone DOTS!
tony 13 01-03-2006, 04:39 PM Jake I want a shirt!!!!! I will pick it up tonight!!!!
tightline31408 01-03-2006, 07:04 PM Jake i sent you a e-mail. thanx
JPH Racing 01-04-2006, 03:13 PM Scott: Glad you got the new ride so quickly. Time to build 'er up and give it a run. The Banked Track Tray does work well in a lot of situations. Thanks for sending in the pics, I'll try to get them up on the site asap!
We've been testing a new spray for oval racing, we're gonna call it "Dot-be-Gone". Sounds like it might help you, maybe you could test it?? :)
Tony: See-ya-soon!
Tightline: They will go out today.
Everyone: Hey, how about a roll call for who's planning on attending the Snowbirds? Would like to know who's gonna be there and what classes you'll be running. Post up! Thanks!
totalrc 01-04-2006, 03:16 PM Jake i would love to be at the snowbirds again this year but that is about the time that i am transfering to New Orleans. I might be able to make it down for one day bit that is going to be about it. Good Luck to all the Maverick Driver at the Birds.
Lee
tony 13 01-04-2006, 03:21 PM I will be there running sportsman 19 turn, I cant wait!
Scott M 01-04-2006, 03:34 PM We've been testing a new spray for oval racing, we're gonna call it "Dot-be-Gone". Sounds like it might help you, maybe you could test it?? :)

CBear3 01-04-2006, 05:29 PM One for sportsman 19 here (also running the bastard child class, touring oval).
David Butts 01-04-2006, 05:33 PM Everyone: Hey, how about a roll call for who's planning on attending the Snowbirds? Would like to know who's gonna be there and what classes you'll be running. Post up! Thanks!
I'll be there, Running sportsman 19t with my trusty 04 OPC and my RC4LESS tires. I'm only two hours from the place so how could I miss it?
Marauder 01-04-2006, 06:03 PM Christ... Where the hell did Whipporill go? Oppps... I'm telling my age! I don't mix well with rug so it'll have to be asphalt or concrete oval somewhere!
